6Predicting Readiness To Engage In Psychotherapy From Self-Referral Forms: A Natural Language Processing Analysis Of Clinical Documents

This study bridges clinical psychology and artificial intelligence to address a critical gap in mental health triage: predicting therapy engagement from free-text narratives in self-referral forms. Purpose: While readiness for therapy is traditionally assessed via structured questionnaires (e.g., URICA, RTQ), these miss nuanced insights in unstructured text. We develop a novel Natural Language Processing (NLP) framework grounded in the Transtheoretical Model (TTM) of change to: - Quantify linguistic markers of readiness from free-text responses ("What problems bring you here?" and "What do you hope to achieve?"). - Model how system responsiveness (referral-to-offer time) moderates the link between readiness and first-session attendance. - Build integrated prediction tools to optimize triage—prioritizing high-risk students (e.g., "hidden ready" cases). Methods: Using 250 anonymized student referrals from the University of Sheffield, we: - Annotate TTM stages (Precontemplation → Maintenance) with inter-rater reliability checks. - Convert text to semantic embeddings via sentence-transformers, training SVM classifiers to derive NLP readiness scores. - Test hypotheses through contingency analyses (H1: self-report vs. NLP concordance) and logistic regression (H2-H4: attendance prediction with time moderation). Expected Outcomes: - Validation of free-text as a clinically meaningful readiness indicator (complementing Item 9 self-reports). - Quantification of time-sensitive engagement: Shorter waits amplify linguistic readiness effects. - Actionable thresholds for triage systems: NLP flags for students needing accelerated scheduling or motivational support. Impact: This work pioneers the operationalization of TTM theory through NLP, enabling proactive resource allocation in overburdened mental health services.

10ERIC ED467749: Teacher Change And Multiple Forms Of Literacy: A Collaborative Inquiry Between Teacher Educators In Music And Language Arts. Final Research Report.

This study was intended to design, enact, and evaluate a teacher education project on multiple forms of literacy and to examine whether teacher-learners would develop new understandings about language arts when defined more expansively to include multiple symbol systems offered by music and other art forms. The project was developed by teacher educators with expertise in five forms of literacy (language arts, music, movement, visual arts, and drama). They created an institute which let participants study the new viewing and representing components of Manitoba, Canada's, new English Language Arts curriculum and allowed them to explore links between language, literacy, and the arts. The project occurred during the summer session at the University of Manitoba. Participants were preservice and inservice teachers working toward various degrees. Data collected over 1 year included course evaluations, questionnaires, observations, artifacts produced by teacher-learners and by faculty, creative works, and field notes. Results indicated that the summer institute model of professional development was an effective way to bring about some changes in teacher-learners' practices and understandings of the role of the arts in language arts education. Nine appendicies contain sample promotional material, pre-institute letter to participants, Summer Institute syllabus and assignments, bibliography of common readings, schedule of Learning Experiences for Summer Institute, class notes for sample workshop, team teaching agenda for sample class, tools for assessing assignments, and tools for evaluating the institute. Many students in the United States who are required to take educational tests are not fully proficient in English. To address this problem, a state-mandated testing program created dual language English-Spanish versions of some of their tests. In this study, the psychometric properties of the English and dual language versions of a fourth-grade mathematics test were explored. Analyses of the consistency of test structure across the two forms were conducted using structural equation modeling and multidimensional scaling. Analyses of differential item functioning (DIF) were conducted using Poly-SIBTEST. The results suggest slight structural differences across the two versions of the test. Part of this difference was attributed to overall proficiency differences across the two studied groups, and part was attributed to DIF. The implications of the findings for future research in this area are discussed. (Contains 4 figures, 11 tables, and 28 references.) (Author/SLD)

A comparison of the effectiveness of different ways to organize instructional materials and different strategies for error feedback used the computer as a research tool and took as subjects first-year junior high school Spanish students, who were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. To investigate materials organization, computer exercises were designed in Spanish to measure the effect on achievement of such factors as integrated context vs. discrete items, personally meaningful material vs. impersonal material, student choice of background content vs. program choice, and the effect of problem-solving activities on the acquisition of language skills. To compare error feedback methods, the study considered the relative effectiveness of student-controlled help vs. program-controlled error correction, types of error repetition, and the role of student discovery in the error correction process. Post achievement test gain scores were consistently in favor of the experimental group. The findings and their implications for instructional materials design, computer-assisted instruction, and testing are discussed. Appendixes include questionnaires, materials descriptions, sample achievement tests, student interest questionnaire, transcript of taped interviews, and programming strategies. (Author/MSE)

This battery of test instruments is one of a set of three developed for use in the study of bilingual (English-Spanish) instruction and other compensatory education programs in Texas. These tests are designed to measure children's basic competence in a language via their perception of linguistic phenomena. The Level II battery is group-administered for children aged six to ten or in primary grades one to four. Included in this manual are general instructions for the test administrator. They were designed to help diminish the influence of extraneous factors in the testing situation and to obtain comparable results from one situation to another. The tests and sample answer sheets form the bulk of this report. (MS)

This study will examine how individuals and groups organise and engage with crowdsourced digital activism (CDA). In the study, we will conduct a qualitative analysis on the data collected and use the findings to develop a codebook which could be used in a quantitative, computational analysis of the data. This study will use data scraped from the public Telegram channel of an online group [name redacted]. This group was selected due to their recent high-profile Distributed-Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks on Chat GPT, among other targets. This data will be analysed using content analysis. Given the different targets and tactics used by this group, this data will create a broader and more representative range of actions discussed within the text corpus in the research.

20Media-Related Out-of-School Contact With English In Germany And Switzerland - Frequency, Forms And The Effect On Language Learning

This open access book aimes to close a critical research gap in understanding how frequently German-speaking adolescents come into contact with the English language through various media channels, such as television, books, or the internet, and how this contact influences learners’ English competences. In addition, this research project explores the effect of family background and gender on this contact. The analysis shows frequent contact with English-language media content by young learners in Germany and Switzerland. More frequent contact was associated with higher language competences. Differences could be found in the preferences of media content and type of media channels due to socio-economic family background and gender.

A number of publicity and public relations techniques can be used to promote and renew interest in foreign language study. Communication should be established with civic organizations and community groups by means of lectures. Foreign language clubs can assume new importance by participating in international friendship organizations. The Partner of the Americas organization, for example, establishes relationships between North American and Latin American cities. Students should be encouraged to become acquainted with the organization and to participate in the various cultural exchange programs. The annual state-wide conventions of the federations of high-school foreign language clubs make for further publicity for foreign languages and cultures. Strategies for organizing such a convention are outlined, followed by a copy of the constitution and by-laws of the Alabama Federation of High School Spanish Clubs. Additional forms of publicity and public relations techniques include promotion of foreign languages through television and radio programs, through newspapers, and by means of communication with public figures, such as political leaders and educators, and community agencies, such as publishers. Bumper stickers are also recommended as a form of publicity. (CLK)

In particular, we first focus on the class of field redefinitions linear in the spin-2 field and involving derivatives of the spin-0 mode, generically known as disformal transformations. We start by defining the action of a disformal transformation in the tangent space. Then, we take advantage of the great economy of means of the language of differential forms to compute the full transformation of Horndeski's theory under general disformal transformations. We obtain that Horndeski's action maps onto itself modulo a reduced set of non-Horndeski Lagrangians. These new Lagrangians are found to be invariant under disformal transformation that depend only in the first derivatives of the scalar. Moreover, these combinations of Lagrangians precisely appear when expressing in our basis the constraints of the recently proposed Extended Scalar-Tensor (EST) theories. These results allow us to classify the different orbits of scalar-tensor theories invariant under particular disformal transformations, namely the special disformal, kinetic disformal and disformal Horndeski orbits. In addition, we consider generalizations of this framework. We find that there are possible well-defined extended disformal transformations that have not been considered in the literature. However, they generically cannot link Horndeski theory with EST theories. Finally, we study further generalizations in which extra fields with different spin are included. These field redefinitions can be used to connect different gravity theories such as multi-scalar-tensor theories, generalized Proca theories and bi-gravity. We discuss how the formalism of differential forms could be useful for future developments in these lines.

In the Slovenian language syllabus, teachers are recommended to provide a greater share of group work during class. During types of learning such as cooperative learning in smaller groups or pairs, students actively develop communicative competence. The present article presents a survey that attempted to determine whether teachers from the first to the fifth grade execute cooperative learning in language classes. The purpose of the article is to raise teachers' awareness and encourage them to design and execute cooperative learning more frequently.

The IDEA Oral Language Proficiency Test (IPT-I), forms C and D, aims to determine the level of English oral language proficiency as it relates to accepted levels of NonEnglish speaking (NES), limited English speaking (LES), and fluent English speaking (FES) designations in order to place students in an appropriate classroom setting. The test was designed for students in kindergarten through grade 6. The sample of test takers for standardization ranged from age 5 to age 12. The C and D forms are parallel tests that measure the correctness, appropriateness, and completeness of items through syntax, morphological structure, lexical content, and phonological structure. Students are tested individually by an examiner who should be bilingual in English and the native language of the student. Test materials are of good quality and are easy to use, and the test is simple to administer and score. Thirty-three school districts have participated in field tests, and reliability and validity have been supported by the field tests. The major weakness of the test is the difficulty of interpreting tables in the test manual. (Contains 3 references.) (SLD)

The territory roughly delimitated by the rivers Dnipro, Sož and Desna, geo-politically set between Ukraine, Belarus’ and not far from the Russian Federation, presents a particularly interesting language situation. In this geo-dialectal “triangle” coexist and interact local dialects – also known as Ukrainian-Belarusian ‘transitional’ dialects – three standard languages (i.e. Ukrainian, Russian and Belarusian), and various forms of language mix. In this article we primarily intend to examine some fundamental issues related to dialectal contact and language distribution typical of this border area.

Dieser war von 1155 an Kanzler des englischen Königs Heinrich II (1133 - 1189). Den Spaniern tritt der junge protestantische Pastor Jürg Jenatsch entgegen. Er ist Anführer der protestantischen Bündnern, die angetreten sind, ihre Heimat zu verteidigen. We can never allow the great objective facts of Christianity, and their attendant doctrines, to sink low on our horizon; but we must give equal prominence to the demands of Christ for a righteousness which shall exceed that of the Scribes and Pharisees, and a perfection which shall resemble that of God. We have no right to be content with saying "Lord, Lord;" we must do the things which He says. <br /><br />Of course, the right kind of obedience is impossible, apart from the Cross and the Spirit. We must be reconciled before we can become obedient children; we must be filled with the Spirit before "the fragrance of Christ" can be manifested through us in every place. The Sermon on the Mount must be read in the transfiguring light which shines backwards from the later events in our Lord's life. <br /><br />When, however, this is borne in mind, each sentence of that marvelous discourse glistens with celestial radiance, and rings with the music of the Gospel. In such a spirit let us address ourselves to the study of the "Directory of the Devout Life," as it is contained in Matt. v., vi., and vii. (from the Preface)<br /><br />F. B.
