Purpose: Institutional repositories provide a new infrastructure for the scientific information management in universities. They can fulfill the internal and external needs if set optimally. Many universities in Iran have decided to develop their institutional repository but they have not applied a systematic planning for it yet. These attempts are based on unorganized frameworks and structures. Methodology: This study seeks to find the most effective and efficient factors that can affect the institutional repositories’ development. A thorough search was conducted to identify the related literature on the institutional repositories from 2000 to2010). A conceptual content analysis was conducted on the literature. The analysis of the 41 studies revealed that the concepts which were found in the institutional repository literature can be grouped into 6 major themes of strategy, policy, documentation, management/administration, system, and use. Findings: This paper makes an original contribution to identifying the criteria of developing institutional repositories based on the information systems theories and offering a framework to take them into account

Some studies of young children's understanding of false belief have generated controversy, even to the extent that others' failure to replicate these studies was viewed as problematic. A Vygotskian perspective on internalization enables researchers to reverse the classic developmental competence-performance distinction, and to argue that the current concern with criteria for competence in terms of a functional theory of mind might be replaced with a concern with those aspects of such tasks that make "successful" performances possible. An acknowledgement of the essential nature of intersubjectivity is a necessary prerequisite to sorting out this theoretical and empirical debate. To support these views, this paper reports a study of preschool children that examined whether structuring false belief tasks to provide opportunities for genuine social interaction would provide evidence of the earlier interpersonal roots of a theory of mind. Results support the Vygotskian claim that children may give evidence of an ability to operate under a more sophisticated theory of mind when they are engaged in social interaction with a more competent peer than when they are tested alone in a traditional false belief task. To evaluate the differences in developing sophisticated gravity theories from the solar system, we use N-body integrations to simulate ephemeris and reproduce some important astronomy phenomena observed on the potentially habitable planet TRAPPIST-1e. Retrograde motions of other planets last 1–2 orders of magnitude shorter than in the solar system, but occur much more frequently. Transit events of all inner planets can be observed steadily. Except for Kepler's first law, which is hard to notice for low eccentricities of planets, the other two laws can then be precisely verified in 102 days, because the areas swept by planets vary by ≲0.01% and the observed semimajor axes and periods result in constants with theoretical and observation accuracies both ≲2%. However, the mean motion correlation implies that the Great Inequality is not always apparent between one pair of planets like Jupiter and Saturn. Furthermore, general relativity can hardly be discovered because it gives rise to perihelion precession of inner planets only ~0.1% of gravity precession, dozens of times smaller than Mercury. Volume I of this report presents the results of a research program to evaluate and develop water-theories for engineering application. Volume II presents wave tables developed for preliminary design in offshore problems. Volume I describes: (1) an evaluation of the degree to which various available wave theories satisfy the nonlinear water-wave mathematical formulation and (2) a comparison of water particle velocities measured in the laboratory with those predicted by a number of available wave theories. The results indicated that Dean's Stream-Function Wave Theory provided generally better agreement with both the mathematical formulation and the laboratory data. Volume I also includes a number of examples illustrating the application of the wave tables (described below) to offshore design problems. Based on the evaluation phase described above, a set of wave tables was developed and is presented as Volume II. The tables consist of dimensionless quantities which describe the kinematic and dynamic fields of a two-dimensional progressive water wave. In addition, quantities are included which are directly applicable to frequently required design calculations and also parameters which should be of interest to the researcher and scientist. This collection of abstracts is part of a continuing series providing information on recent doctoral dissertations. The 20 titles deal with the following topics: the role of crib talk in language acquisition; syntactic parsing strategies; a case study of the first use of words; how two modes of literature presentation affect oral language development; children's cognition and acquisition of selected syntactic structures; language use in constructing/testing social scientific theories; the functions of language in discussions; visual literacy as a factor in language development; form and function as a basis for referential development in children; discriminating synthetic speech sounds; assessing secondary school students' knowledge of prefixes; language within power relationships; a flexible child-talk code; developing spatial and syntactic transformations; the acquisition of five syntactic structures by elementary school children; the developmental relationship between comprehension and production of grammatical morphemes in preschool children; how preschool children sequence narrative events; classifying preschool children's uses of meaningful language on selected conceptual tasks; maternal self-repetition and child feedback; and the mastery of specific conjunctions by elementary school children. Cognitive psychologists have invested considerable effort into developing models of causal selection in social settings. This research has illuminated a number of factors that influence people's assessments of causality, such as the probabilities of counterfactual realities or the moral valence of people's actions, among others. We are aiming to collect a large-scale quantitative dataset that systematically manipulates several of these known factors in order to provide a precise quantitative test of different theories of causal selection and aid in the development of new theories.

Written by a methodological behaviorist, this treatise critiques neo-Hullian, Freudian, Eriksonian, and Piagetian theories and presents an ethological perspective on behavior and personality development. The critique is extended to cover social learning, cognitive-developmental, neo-Freudian, and Skinnerian theories, as well as the ideas of Bandura. Assumptions for conducting research and allowing for interpretation and integration of findings are specified and discussed. These assumptions include the following ideas: (1) that fundamentally important behaviors can be seen in conflict situations; (2) that all behavior must be viewed with the past history of the subject in mind; (3) that important manipulative skills can be noted directly and that covert behavior can be inferred by an observer who has been engaged in an extensive longitudinal study; (4) that only unobtrusive observations used to interpret the behavior of single subjects will be unbiased; (5) that all behavior is directly or indirectly interactive with the environment, is homeostatic, or works toward homeostasis and that all species-typical behavioral developments are adaptive; (6) that all behaviors must be construed "within the subject's perceptual-thought system"; and (7) that interpretation involves comparing present behaviors with similar past behaviors and interpreting them in terms of various possible types of behaviors and in terms of specified mechanisms of change. Any theory that fulfills these assumptions is considered to be an ethological theory of personality development. A bibliography of suggested readings is appended. (RH)

Researchers have long been interested in how to improve the effectiveness of IPTCT courses in Chinese educational institutions. This article provides a framework for understanding the research undertaken into the effectiveness of IPTCT in China's higher education system over the past ten years, from 2006 to 2015. It begins with a discussion of the special position held by IPTCT in China and the importance of undertaking effective studies into IPTCT. After reviewing the research on effective teaching theory within IPTCT research, describing the current research development in China, in the next section, the reasons for the use of historical and document methodology used in this paper are also examined. Next, a literature review and analysis of data collected from over a ten-year period publications in this field of study is undertaken. Then, the review highlights the six main areas identified by researchers to determine the effectiveness of IPTCT courses, including concept research; class teaching; teaching method; practice teaching; discipline innovation as well as student engagement. Furthermore, three research problems are examined which highlight the complexity of undertaking research into the effectiveness of IPTCT. The article concludes by exploring implications for future research into the effectiveness and suggestions for IPTCT teachers.

Three developmental approaches to teacher education are examined in an effort to determine a coherent theoretical framework of criteria for evaluating the effectiveness of education programs. The first is discussed in terms of the development in a teacher of concern for student achievement and increasing willingness to be flexible in adapting new innovations that may improve student learning. The second approach to teacher development is based on the application of scales designed to identify the ability to take multiple perspectives, to be empathetic, and to employ principled moral reasoning. The third developmental approach to teacher education seeks to produce teachers who are nondirective, and who will promote developmental growth in children. The rationale for each of these approaches is discussed and the justification of each by leading proponents is presented. A critique of all three approaches is offered. (JD)

The history of progressive education in Eretz-Israel (Palestine) from 1915-39 is intended as a model of a new pedagogical theory adopted by a changing society. Topics discussed include the Jewish community in Eretz-Israel, pedagogical experiments, progressive education as a pedagogical movement, the relationship between school and society, the role of the educator in progressive education, and learning characteristics peculiar to progressive education. The paper describes and evaluates the alliance between progressive concepts in education and the Labour Movement. Two basic assumptions are offered: first, this alliance is encouraged if the basic pedagogical concepts are in agreement with the ideals guiding the society; second, creation of new man-centered social order encourages an open atmosphere in which concepts such as progressive education are acceptable. Against this political and social background, progressive education developed through three stages: (1) educational experiments which attempted to initiate pedagogical experiments elsewhere; (2) the pedagogical movement resulting from a dynamic interaction between the school and its social environment; and (3) an educational system characterized by the dependence of school on society as a whole. This article describes in a general way optimal rendezvous control theories and methods inside and outside China. It stresses a discussion of progress in China in the last few years.It introduces the results of research on the theories and methods of adjacent near circular orbit optimal rendezvous under the effects of finite thrusts, ordinary coplanar elliptical orbit general optimal rendezvous, multiple pulse thrust linearized and nonlinear rendezvous orbital optimal guidance and horizontal impulse thrust optimal rendezvous control.

In this research, the rate constitutive theories for ordered thermoviscous fluids, ordered thermoelastic solids and ordered thermoviscoelastic polymeric fluids in contra- and co-variant bases are developed. Such theories are necessitated when the mathematical models of the deforming matter are derived using the Eulerian description. In each case, the dependent variables in the rate constitutive theory and their argument tensors describing the physics of the deforming matter are identified. The dependent variables in the constitutive theory are expressed as a linear combination of the combined generators of the argument tensors. The coefficients in the linear combinations are functions of the combined invariants of the argument tensors, temperature, and density (for compressible matter; in the current configuration). The coefficients in the linear combination are determined by considering their Taylor's series expansions about the reference configuration and limiting the expansion to linear terms in the combined invariants and temperature.

The purpose of this, the first international library conference held in China and sponsored by a Chinese institution, was to enhance the development of library and information science, promote the status of library and information professionals, and exchange ideas of research and practices in the field. In addition to ceremonial speeches, 134 papers were selected and read, most either written in or translated into English. Thirty-one of these papers are abstracted here, and are intended to provide references to scholars and practitioners who are interested in studying the current status and development of library and information services in many locations throughout the world, particularly China. Topics covered by the papers abstracted include: historical development, philosophical foundations, interactions with socioeconomic changes, technology and automation, management, cataloging and classification, preservation, and education. The development of effective second and foreign (L2) language learning materials needs to be grounded in two types of theories: (a) a theory of language and language use and (b) a theory of language learning. Both are equally important, insofar as an effective learning environment requires an understanding of the knowledge, skills, and abilities that are being targeted as well as an idea of how learner development progresses. Although the author and colleagues have previously provided a theoretical basis for the construct of L2 pragmatic ability, and thus a theory of language use, the current paper focuses on learner development, particularly on the theoretical orientation towards L2 pragmatic learning. Given this superordinate goal, the paper will briefly review different theoretical paradigms that have been employed in adult L2 pragmatics development research. In the first part of the paper, I will provide an overview of the cognitive, socially oriented, and emergentist perspectives used in research on L2 pragmatic development. Then, based on the different ontological perspectives, I will discuss the affordances and challenges of applying a theoretical perspective to designing L2 pragmatic learning environments, drawing upon the example of the cognitively oriented information processing theory.

The purpose of this study is to investigate physical education teacher educators' subjective theories about sustainable development and education for sustainable development (ESD). It is assumed that their subjective theories are influencial for the acquisition of ESD-specific professional competencies of future PE teachers, and in turn effect how ESD is implemented in school physical education. Subjective theories will be assessed in a two-stage process. First, semi-structured interviews will be conducted to assess the contents of PE teacher's subjective theories. Second, structural maps of the subjective theories will be created through communicative validation.

Ann Oakley is considered the first to use the concept of 'gender'. She tried to distinguish between 'gender and 'sex'. In fact, she borrowed the idea of distinguishing between the two concepts from the American psychologist Robert Stoller, who was working on unlimited or sexually ambiguous cases. Sex, at that time, was not clearly defined whether it refers to 'males' or 'females', especially since the feelings and emotions were not in harmony with the person's real sex. Robert found that the distinction between the two concepts was beneficial to describe the condition of those individuals who found themselves in special gender positions and models but practiced gender deeds that are not connected to their sex. Accordingly, Oakley defined 'sex' as: "the physiological and biological characteristics that distinguish 'males' from 'females.' Oakley defined gender as "Masculinity and Femininity that are socially structured, and culturally and psychologically formed." These concepts are acquired through a socialization process, through which the individual learns how to become a 'male' and how to become a 'female' in a specific society and at a specific time, as 'gender' represents social characteristics and not a direct product that is connected to biological sex. In general, the concept of 'gender' refers to the distinction between the 'male' and the 'female' on the regular basis of the social role of each category, under the influence of the prevailing social values. The concept of 'Sex' or biological kind means, "the biological, physiological, and psychological differences between the two sexes regarding the differences of chromosomes and hormones and internal and external sexual organs, and consequently, 'Sex' is characterized by 'predestination' and 'aesthetics'. The differences between the woman and the man are fixed and eternal. This condition is called 'sexual dimorphism', namely, 'duplication' or 'duality', which indicates the existence of two kinds of the same category, which differ from each other in several properties. To express the biological differences between the two sexes, sociologists employ the term 'Sex-Category' or 'Sex-Assignment', which describe the operations through which social meanings are given to the biological category (male, female). Thus, we find that the concept of 'gender' has a dynamic meaning, where the role that men and women play extremely vary from one culture to another, and from one social group to another within the same culture. Ethnic race, social class, economic circumstances, and age are factors that influence the actions that are considered appropriate for women. Roughly, we can say that 'sex' is the concept that we give to our mother tongue, through which we speak and figure out our desires, while 'gender' indicates the cultural practices or media that enable these desires to be achieved.[1].
