1ERIC ED594144: What Works In Early Grade Literacy Instruction. Occasional Paper. RTI Press Publication OP-0039-1702 Over The Past Decade, RTI International Has Pursued The Goal Of Quality, Inclusive, Differentiated Early Grade Literacy Instruction In Nearly 30 Early Grade Reading Or Early Grade Literacy Programs In Low- And Middle-income (LMI) Countries. Across Our Diverse Portfolio, We Have Supported Ministries Of Education (Ministries) In Diverse Contexts In Their Development And Implementation Of Research-based Early Grade Literacy Programs And Have Learned Important Lessons Based On Our Experience Working With Ministries To Design, Develop, And Implement Early Grade Literacy Programs. This Paper Describes The Core Elements That We Have Found To Improve Early Grade Literacy Instruction And Learner Outcomes: The Approach To Teaching (Teach), The Availability Of Quality, Relevant Learner Materials (Text), The Effective Use Of Instructional Time (Time), The Use Of Formative Assessment To Guide Instruction (Test), And Provision Of Instruction In The Most Effective Language (Tongue). This Paper Focuses On The Acquisition Of Literacy In Alphabetic And Alphasyllabic Languages In The Early Primary Years (most Typically, Academic Levels 1 Through 3) And The Kinds Of Exposures, Instruction, And Support Learners Need To Become Fully Literate. These Are The Elements Of A Literacy Program That Can Be Taught, That Should Be Present In Teaching And Learning Materials And In Teacher Trainings, And That Relate Specifically To What Happens In A Classroom. Many More Factors Contribute To Literacy Acquisition. However, We Focus On The Core Elements In This Paper To Delve Deeper And Facilitate A Richer Discussion About These Components. No One-size-fits-all Approach To The Development And Implementation Of Literacy Programs Exists; The Local Context And Constraints Of Any Implementation Can Require Adaptation And Adjustments. In Many Cases, The Fully Diversified Approach To Early Grade Literacy Instruction Described In The Classroom Scenario Has Not Yet Been Achieved. However, We Hope That This Compilation Of Lessons Learned And Best Practices Achieved Through Our Experiences Will Help To Further The Efforts Of All To Provide High-quality, Effective Literacy Instruction To All Learners, Particularly Those In LMI Countries. Over the past decade, RTI International has pursued the goal of quality, inclusive, differentiated early grade literacy instruction in nearly 30 early grade reading or early grade literacy programs in low- and middle-income (LMI) countries. 4ERIC ED421729: The Radio Play's The Thing: Teaching Text And Performance Through Soundscripting.

By

The technique of Soundscripting, the addition of sound cues and sound effects to the canonical pages of any play, is flexible enough to be done at no cost or with all the advantages of modern media. In class, the use of Shakespearean radio dramas or comedies can be effective. The long-term process in class involves four major steps and may take from a few days to a few weeks in and out of class. The steps are: (1) students in collaborative groups read their scenes out loud; (2) they designate and devise the sound effects that fit the text; (3) they render the sound effects alone with a question and answer period by an audience; and (4) they perform the text and sound effects. Key scenes in Shakespeare's "Hamlet" work well for this technique. Some warnings in selecting scenes are: some scenes are too well known and the audience may have a clear inflexible idea of what should be happening; the choices must be judicious because most classes will not have the people or the time to take on many scenes; and teams of students usually need a few roles to play, not a single one. Soundscripting could easily work with any text from any generation as a way to create a fuller effect of interpretation of a script within a classroom. (RS)

This book contains the full text of papers and posters presented at the International Conference on Education and New Developments (END 2024), organized by the World Institute for Advanced Research and Science (WIARS). Education, in our contemporary world, is a right since we are born. Every experience has a formative effect on the constitution of the human being, in the way one thinks, feels and acts. One of the most important contributions resides in what and how we learn through the improvement of educational processes, both in formal and informal settings. The International Conference seeks to provide some answers and explore the processes, actions, challenges and outcomes of learning, teaching and human development. The goal is to offer a worldwide connection between teachers, students, researchers and lecturers, from a wide range of academic fields, interested in exploring and giving their contribution in educational issues. We take pride in having been able to connect and bring together academics, scholars, practitioners and others interested in a field that is fertile in new perspectives, ideas and knowledge. We counted on an extensive variety of contributors and presenters, which can supplement our view of the human essence and behavior, showing the impact of their different personal, academic and cultural experiences. This is, certainly, one of the reasons we have many nationalities and cultures represented, inspiring multi-disciplinary collaborative links, fomenting intellectual encounter and development. END 2024 received 729 submissions, from more than 50 different countries, reviewed by a double-blind process. Submissions were prepared to take form of Oral Presentations, Posters, Virtual Presentations and Workshops. The conference accepted for presentation 284 submissions (39% acceptance rate). This is the Volume 2 of the book titled Education and New Developments 2024, that showcases the outcomes of dedicated research and developments undertaken by authors who are driven by their passion to enhance research methods that directly relate to teaching, learning, and the practical applications of education in the present day. Within its pages, you will find a diverse array of contributors and presenters who expand our perspectives by delving into various educational matters. This second volume focuses on the main areas of PROJECTS AND TRENDS and ORGANIZATIONAL ISSUES.

1Adventures of Squirrel Fluffytail

By

"Once upon a time, on a beautiful island that stood at the center of a great big lake, there lived in the heart of a kindly old oak tree a dear little squirrel family. There were three in all; father, mother and fluffytail and they were just the happiest family one could imagine." So begins the tale of little Fluffytail (whose tail was very fluffy indeed!) and her many adventures. A fun little story. - Summary by Phil Chenevert
