This project presents contemporary thoughts on the merits of the implementation and effectiveness of a new purchase order automation system. This case study reviews the steps taken to implement this system and the lessons learned along the way. Information is presented on the conditions, methods, objectives, and problems associated with this project. Information is also presented on the insights, advantages, and utility gained in the implementation of this automated system. The completion of the project resulted in the accomplishment of many things, they are loosely grouped into two categories. The first group of benefits centers around the topic of information. This project, which implemented a network-based purchase order tracking system with a database, has dramatically increased the amount of useful information for the organization. This is new and was not possible with the old system. The second group of benefits centers around control. The old process suffered from a general lack of control and this project, for the most part, has alleviated this problem. This consequent efficiency, and the previously mentioned wealth of information has been the result of the implementation of a purchase order tracking system this is clearly superior to its predecessor. This has been done to the befit and satisfaction of the manager, the customers of the process, and to the organization.

This Coastal and Hydraulics Engineering Technical Note (CHETN) provides a description of the St. Johns County, FL, Shore Protection Project (SPP) with focus on Regional Sediment Management (RSM) to illuminate lessons learned to advance the state of RSM application across the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).

The Software Automation, Generation and Administration (SAGA) project is investigating the design and construction of practical software engineering environments for developing and maintaining aerospace systems and applications software. The research includes the practical organization of the software lifecycle, configuration management, software requirements specifications, executable specifications, design methodologies, programming, verification, validation and testing, version control, maintenance, the reuse of software, software libraries, documentation, and automated management.

The U.S. Coast Guard has been continuously asked to perform more missions with less resources. Technological advances in telecommunications and information systems accessibility have played a major role in the Coast Guard meeting these challenges. However, to meet new demands for even greater efficiency and effectiveness, the Coast Guard strategy for tighter interoperability between Coast Guard commands must continue to evolve. To support this evolution, the Command, Control, and Communication Branch of the Coast Guard must use a strategy for project management that will foster greater efficiency and effectiveness. This strategy should include a standardized approach to project management that fosters communication, attention to detail, and leads to interoperability of systems through standardization without extensively limiting creativity or use of technological advances. This paper demonstrates how the use of systems thinking, and in particular the Structured Approach Model, can encourage the management characteristics that will lead to the development of more effective telecommunications projects and completion of those projects in a more efficient manner. This paper explains the seven phases of the Structured Approach Model and views each using the functional, organizational, and physical prospectives. Steps for applying the model are given and are aimed at the Coast Guard project officer.

The Ambrough Slough complex is a 1200-hectare area containing a number of backwater lakes, sloughs and other wetland habitats in pool 10 of the Upper Mississippi River near Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. The habitat concerns within the Ambrough Slough complex are primarily related to providing adequate habitat for backwater fish, especially over wintering habitat. Backwater dredging is recommended for Spring Lake, Big Missouri Lake and Upper Doubles Lake to increase water depths and improve summer and winter fish habitat. The largest lake in the complex, Gremore Lake, suffers dissolved oxygen depletion in the winter, which would be alleviated by constructing a small channel to introduce flows from Ambrough Slough into Gremore Lake. Reducing flows at Black Slough, Upper Double Lake and Tilmont Lake would improve winter habitat conditions by reducing current velocities and maintaining water temperatures within tolerance ranges of backwater fish.

Glaucoma is the leading cause of irreversible vision loss worldwide, which is caused by a progressive damage of the optic nerve. The control of intraocular pressure (IOP) levels is the only proven strategy for glaucoma management. In particular, the role of physical activity in IOP levels is mediated by the type of training performed. However, no previous study has assessed the impact of a structured physical training program on glaucoma progression. The general objective of this project is to provide effective training strategies to increase physical fitness without compromising or even improving the ocular health of pharmacologically treated primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) patients. 70 POAG patients will participate in a randomized controlled clinical trial consisting of 54 sessions performed during a 28-week period (4 pre-intervention assessment, 4 post-intervention assessment and 48 training sessions). Pre and post-training intervention assessments will include visual signs and visual-related symptomatology, as well as functional status (strength and endurance fitness). Training sessions will last 1 hour, including strength and endurance exercises (concurrent training).

Managing the information generated during the course of a scientific investigation is both a challenging and an essential task for NASA scientists. During an investigation, experimental records must be kept up-to-date and made accessible to all members of a scientific team. After an investigation, a thorough set of records is essential for historical documentation, reproducibility, and overall scientific credibility . These information-management requirements are particularly challenging when scientific work is carried out by large, geographically distributed teams, but even for small, collocated teams or individual scientists, knowledge management has become a time-consuming, frustrating exercise. Ames researchers are developing a suite of sophisticated information-sharing tools to address these complex knowledge-management issues.

A computer-oriented filing system is considered necessary to handle the approximately 1,500 students likely to be enrolled in the Georgia model program to train elementary teachers (ED 025 491) by the time it reaches sustained operation. The system of individualized scheduling involves establishing and maintaining a computer storage filing system on the progress of each student, the status and capabilities of faculty and staff, and the status of physical space and equipment. Since students will be handled on a distributed basis, the filing system must be capable of continuous daily updating and access. The system can be implemented at the University of Georgia using existing hardware (IBM 360/65 computer with remote terminals--also on Univak 9200) and software to be developed. Six basic programs will be required: 1) file maintenance (one for each file program), 2) testing program, 3) evaluation program, 4) scheduling program, 5) miscellaneous reporting programs, and 6) master internal central program. The filing system will require eight basic files each with two types of basic information: 1) identification, background, and performance history data, and 2) current status data. The eight files are student record file, testing decision tables, evaluation decision tables, scheduling decision tables, faculty and staff file, space and equipment file, accounting files, and internal central files and program. Participants, who tried to reduce their weight at least once, were selected by purposeful sampling method from aerobic fitness clubs, parks, and public offices in Isfahan in 2010. Data saturation was reached after indepth unstructured interviews with 11 participants. Data analysis was done by conventional content analysis method. Findings:: The participants have intermittently followed weight loss program. Barriers such as physical problems, lack of motivation, lack of work and family support and lack of time have resulted in their failures and outages. The main facilitator to start or restart after stopping such programs for a while was positive psychologic effect. Discussion and Conclusion:: Findings showed that many problems could prevent weight loss. It is important to identify obstacles that hinder weight management and regimen programs and to discuss them with people before planning for their weight management.

The primary objective of this research was to demonstrate how Earned Value Management (EVM) principles can be applicable for non-major programs that spend money within the Department of Defense. This Joint Applied Project provided a tailorable EVM approach, both for contracts that do not meet the threshold, and contracts that have a waiver and need modified levels of cost, schedule and performance reporting. The immediate objective of this research project was to examine the question: Can the application of EVM-Lite project management techniques improve the reporting metrics to assess acquisition category (ACAT) II and III cost and schedule performance trends across programs? The JAP examined the background of present cost and schedule reporting currently being used for non-major DOD programs. A comparative analysis was conducted on ACAT II and III programs to define the key issues related to accuracy, completeness, and consistency with data received by the contractor to measure performance. The results indicated that by the use of EVM techniques, ACAT II and III programs can improve data reliability and effectively measure cost and schedule performance. An example of the EVM concepts was demonstrated as a starting point and where tailoring is appropriate.

The purpose of this study is to determine the scope of medical services that should be provided to enrolled beneficiaries at the future Naval Health Clinic Charleston based on projected demand and demographics of the population. Twelve months of historical relative value unit (RVU) workload data were used to conduct forecasts to project the future demand for health care services in 10 specialty practices. Two independent predictive models were created using time-series analysis and utilization rates from the population of interest. Projections were evaluated against Navy Medicine annual benchmark standards for clinical practices to determine if sufficient demand existed to provide each service. Both independent methodologies indicated the need for 5 of the 10 specialty practices evaluated in the study. Results of this study suggest the demographic make-up of the targeted population likely limits the need for certain specialty services that typically serve an older population.

The project identified and examined eight management areas and provided consultative service to local district administrative personnel in an effort to improve the management of the rescheduled school year, grade level organizational plans, differentiated staffing patterns, administrative and instruction staff development programs, flexible-modular scheduling plans, nongraded-continuous progress plans, computer technology programs for education, and instructional media center plans. To improve the local school district administrators' knowledge and expertise, the project director utilized district seminars, consultative services to local district personnel, mobile seminars, statewide conferences, summer institutes, and research projects. Included in the appendix is a directory of recommended consultants in the area of curriculum improvement, a model for a 9-week semester school, two plans on individualized instruction and flexible student progression, and a model for assessing educational success in Kentucky's schools. The proposed actions analyzed in this document include dredging; dredged material placement; recreational beach maintenance and development; repair, construction, modification, and/or removal of channel structures; clearing and snagging operations; and future site planning for dredged material placement. Site specific social and economic effects of the CMMP range from slightly negative effects to significantly positive effects.

South Coast Rail Project Overview Fiscal & Management Control Board August 8, 2016

Developed and coordinated by the Bureau of Reading Education of the New York State Education Department, Project Alert is a statewide inservice program to facilitate instituting or improving the diagnostic-prescriptive approach to reading instruction. As part of this program, a reading resource kit was prepared by the bureau to give structure and direction to the projects in the local schools. This multimedia kit presently has six packages, with three more to be prepared. Each of the packages in the kit analyzes one skills topic in reading. The fifth package, "Classroom Management," contains materials intended to help teachers organize their classrooms effectively so that individual needs can be met through appropriate group or individual learning activities. The first section of the package emphasizes the importance of using relevant student data as the foundation of instructional planning. The next section focuses on possible staff patterns and the relationship of classroom organization to learning. And the last section deals with the instructional program. In each section, assigned tasks involve the teacher in actual procedures for classroom management. An overview of Project Alert and the administrator's handbook, which describes the intended uses of the packages, are included with each package. (TO)

This document brings together the fruits of the work that the Trenton, New Jersey school district did between 1970-73 to create a new system for administering innovation and assuming responsibility for the spending of millions of dollars in Federal grants. It contains material relevant to a school district looking to implement a project management system and has three parts. Part 1 is an overview of the principles and procedures of a project management system. It provides the foundation for understanding the Project Management Procedure Handbook which is Part 2. The handbook describes the various procedure that special projects in a school district should follow. Relevant procedures cover administration, finance, training, personnel, and evaluation.
