Gifted females' lack of verbal participation in lessons within their elementary school classrooms was perceived as an obstacle to maximization of their learning potential. The goal of the study was to identify causations of the girls' reticence to demonstrate verbalization skills that were commensurate with those of their male counterparts and to develop strategies to promote increased female verbal participation in classroom discourse. The study utilized multiple intelligence theory as a method for encouraging gifted females to increase their verbal interactions within classroom lessons. All of the gifted learners were observed daily for quantitative data to assess the frequency with which each gender communicated verbally, initiated verbal contact, was offered higher-level query, and engaged in dialogue with teachers. All students were interviewed 4 times during the study. Both teachers of the gifted met weekly to discuss the study's progress, and parents of gifted females were randomly selected for interviews. All of the gifted learners were administered the Bar-On Emotional Quotient-Inventory: Youth Version (Bar-On & Parker, 2000) to collect pre-and posttest data. The pre-and posttest data demonstrated little significant change in female students' emotional quotient above the mean. Tallies on the observational sheets documented an increase in verbal participation by female learners. However, the females' frequencies of self-initiated speaking and responses to higher-level inquiries did not increase to the levels projected by the writer. The recommendation of the writer is the establishment of positive, noncompetitive learning environments that focus on increasing verbal participation by all reticent students. Through utilization of researched strategies, increased discourse was observed in males and females whose taciturn nature had previously been identified by their parents and teachers. According to psychologist Daniel Goleman, a strong IQ can set the baseline for success but does not guarantee prosperity. Goleman believes that factors contributing to "emotional intelligence" (for example, self-control, zeal and persistence, and ability to motivate oneself) are key to success in the corporate world. Howard Gardner has identified seven types of intelligence. Two of them intrapersonal intelligence (having true understanding of oneself) and interpersonal intelligence (understanding others) have implications for leadership. In 1990, Mayer and Salovey defined emotional intelligence as a type of social intelligence that involves the ability to monitor one's own and others' emotions, to discriminate among them, and to use the information to guide one's thinking and actions. The findings of research in the field of the neurophysiology of the emotions suggest that people can become effective leaders by learning to combine the strengths of their "thinking or rational brain" with those of their "emotional brain." Goleman has suggested the following domains for emotional intelligence: (1) knowing one's emotions; (2) managing one's emotions; (3) motivating oneself; (4) recognizing emotions in others; and (5) handling relationships. The next logical step is to move from review of the literature to research. This step will be accomplished by studying public school principals in Mississippi. (22 references) (MN)

U.S. Defense Intelligence is changing. Volatility, identification of global threats, information technology advances, emphasis on theater intelligence, and reduced defense budgets are all fomenting change. As a consequence, Reserve Component Intelligence Elements (RCIE) are providing increasing support to defense intelligence organizations. This paper describes the enhanced role of RCIE in support of theater intelligence. Increased use of qualified RCIE and their relatively new access to state of the art DOD funded information technologies and facilities contribute to their effectiveness. Implementation of service owned Title 10 RC assets to support real intelligence requirements is unfortunately difficult. Likewise, the Army has not developed innovative force structure models for integrating RCIE. This study recommends that the Army use Title 10 authority flexibly, acknowledging the changing threat and the increasing need for intelligence at echelons above corps (EAC). It thereby proposes integration of RCIE with Army organizations in the theater to satisfy theater intelligence requirements and comply with joint doctrine.

The United States is engaged in a Long War against an enemy that does not wear a uniform. The nation's success is dependent upon the engagement of all elements of national power. The readiness of United States' intelligence Soldiers is essential to its success. Their readiness, training, and employment at the tactical level directly relates to their ability to interact with the analysts and intelligence organizations found at the Operational and National levels. The conduct of intelligence operations today is exceedingly complex and requires access to national analysts and databases. As with combat arms Soldiers, the Brigade Combat Team (BCT) commanders must provide opportunities for intelligence Soldiers to develop and hone their individual and team technical skills. To this end, it is imperative that certification standards be developed and implemented. Intelligence Soldiers readiness/certification should be treated as a pacing item as defined in AR 220-1. As units move through the three force pools of ARFORGEN, their intelligence Soldiers must be aligned to the real-world mission they will execute during their Available phase. This paper will provide a plan by which intelligence Soldiers can be engaged at all times.

Making students responsible for their own learning in biology is a national issue. The goal of this Master's project was to increase students' responsibility for their own learning in order to increase academic output and decrease the incidence of inappropriate behavior. The targeted population consisted of sophomore high school students in a biology classroom. The high school was located in a stable, urban blue-collar community in northern Illinois. The problems of academic output and inappropriate behavior had been documented by annotated teacher records, student records, and school records. Students also answered surveys designed to determine the causes for the students' lack of responsibility. Analysis of probable cause data revealed that students: (1) lacked intrinsic motivation and interest in science; (2) had low self-esteem; and (3) had possible family dysfunctions. Large class size may have contributed to the problem. A review of solution strategies suggested by knowledgeable others, combined with an analysis of the problem setting, resulted in the selection of the following categories of intervention: use of cooperative learning and employment of the theory of multiple intelligences. Post-intervention data indicated an increase in students' responsibility for their own learning through an increase in academic output and a decrease in the incidents of inappropriate behavior. The birth of the digital era full of new technologies and information systems that increase as time goes by has forced the military to embrace these innovations so that they do not lose effectiveness or become obsolete when compared with other countries armed forces. One of these innovations is the Geospatial Information Systems (GIS), which is the result of geography's evolution from its application for naming and delineating the boundaries of countries, seas, and rivers. Modern day applications of this science have transformed it into a more scientific, mathematical, and technological one, which is a powerful tool for GEOINT analysts, and support of the decision-making process in the intelligence and military fields. This thesis introduces the GEOINT-process-model and the main GIS applications in the military and intelligence fields. A practical scenario that embraces a SOF operation is developed through use of the GEOINT process and ArcGIS software. Furthermore, this thesis presents a preliminary approach for the Mexican Navy to embrace the use of GIS and GEOINT.

Method : This research was a quasi-experimental study with pretest-posttest and control group design. The statistical population includes the female students of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad. From this population, 40 students were selected using convenience sampling method and were randomly divided into two experimental (n=20) and control (n=20) groups. The experimental group received six sessions of self-knowledge education with the Sadrai approach, and the control group did not receive any intervention. The Sohrabi and Naseri's spiritual intelligence questionnaire was used to collect data at two stages of pre and post test.  The data were analized using ANCOVA and MANCOVA methods by SPSS-19 software. Findings : The results showed significant difference between the experimental group and control group in the variable of study indicating that self-knowledge education with Sadra's approach led to the promotion of spiritual intelligence of female students of Ferdowsi University.

Audiobook listenership is growing with the increasing availability of devices, platforms and apps offering an ever-wider range of high quality titles. This literature review provides an overview of research exploring the role of audiobooks in supporting children's literacy both at home and in the classroom. It focuses on how positive engagement with audiobooks can develop reading skills such as decoding and comprehension, while supporting reading enjoyment, wellbeing and emotional intelligence. It also examines the impact of specific practices such as Reading While Listening (RWL), classroom studies on the efficacy of audiobooks and the role of features such as accessibility and convenience of audiobooks in supporting literacy engagement. The review find that while studies to date focus on listening in relation to reading, more research is needed on the intrinsic benefits of listening and listening for enjoyment.

On September 8th, 2024, during a special operation by the Israeli Air Force, troops from the Shaldag Unit raided and destroyed an underground compound for manufacturing precision missiles in the Masyaf area, deep in Syrian territory. For years, the Intelligence Directorate conducted extensive intelligence gathering and monitoring, confirming the value of the target. In the months leading up to the operation, a plan was launched for the Israeli Air Force to destroy it. The soldiers landed using helicopters, with fire and intelligence-gathering support from aircraft, fighter jets, and naval vessels of the Israeli Navy. The raid's target was an underground compound deep in Syrian territory, funded and supported by Iran. The compound was a flagship project for Iran's efforts to arm its terror proxies on Israel’s northern border. The compound included advanced assembly lines designed to manufacture precision-guided missiles and long-range rockets, significantly increasing the supply of missiles to Hezbollah and other Iranian terror proxies in the region. During the operation, the forces reached critical machinery for manufacturing precision missiles, including a planetary mixer, numerous weapons, and intelligence documents, which were transferred for investigation. The soldiers destroyed the compound and safely returned to Israeli territory.

This thesis examines if applying the six principles of the United States Army's mission command philosophy would improve the agility of Joint intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) at the operational level. The six principles are building cohesive teams through mutual trust, shared understanding, clear commander's intent, mission orders, disciplined initiative, and accepting prudent risk. The study employs a qualitative research design utilizing an inductive logic approach with a meta-analysis research methodology to create a series of increasingly strong and logically cogent inductive arguments. The full body of literature paired with the meta-analysis provides sufficient evidence to support a direct relationship between mission command and ISR agility. Therefore, changes in the amount of mission command within a given environment will likely result in comparable changes within the level of ISR agility. The resulting analysis is applied to a representative operational example within the South Caucuses region in order to discuss mission command's potential in increasing ISR agility in a real-world context. The research concludes with a series of recommendations at the unclassified level regarding the application of mission command philosophy to Joint ISR doctrine in order to improve Joint ISR's agility at the operational level.

Abstract Two genetic findings from twin research have far-reaching implications for understanding individual differences in the development of brain function as indexed by general cognitive ability (g, aka intelligence): (1) The same genes affect g throughout development, even though (2) heritability increases. It is now possible to test these hypotheses using DNA alone. From 1.7 million DNA markers and g scores at ages 7 and 12 on 2875 children, the DNA genetic correlation from age 7 to 12 was 0.73, highly similar to the genetic correlation of 0.75 estimated from 6702 pairs of twins from the same sample. DNA-estimated heritabilities increased from 0.26 at age 7 to 0.45 at age 12; twin-estimated heritabilities also increased from 0.35 to 0.48. These DNA results confirm the results of twin studies indicating strong genetic stability but increasing heritability for g, despite mean changes in brain structure and function from childhood to adolescence.
