Female and genderqueer youth of Colour in Germany face structural, institutional, and interpersonal barriers to academic and professional participation, especially in psychological and psychosocial fields. This study aims to develop and evaluate a participatory, intersectionality-informed Mentoring and Empowerment Program (MEP) to foster educational engagement, mental health, and access to psychosocial professions. This interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary project is co-developed with key stakeholders and includes (a) a psychologically-informed, discrimination-sensitive coaching module to identify intrapersonal strengths and talents; (b) integration of mentors and role models of Colour to share educational pathways; and (c) a student-led mentoring component to jointly explore and overcome access barriers. A digital storytelling platform will facilitate peer-to-peer science communication and serve as a sustainable knowledge transfer tool. The study investigates: (1) experiences of discrimination and educational barriers among youth and especially female and/or genderqueer youth of Colour; (2) conditions for successful academic participation; (3) the feasibility, acceptability, and potential effectiveness of the MEP; (4) user engagement with the digital storytelling toolbox; and (5) strategies for long-term dissemination. Expected Outcomes: The project will contribute to the structural transformation of academic and psychosocial education settings and provide a model for diversifying student access to psychology and related fields.

Bilayered transdermal patches for delivery of ondansetron hydrochloride were developed by- using polymers HPMC E15 (2.5 gm) and Eudragit RLPO (0.35gm) for the treatment of  chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting. Different formulations were prepared by varying  the grades of polymers by solvent casting method. Prepared patches were evaluated for  physicochemical characteristics, mechanical properties, ex vivo permeation study, etc. Optimum  formulation consisted of drug (0.395gm), HPMC E15 (2.5gm), PEG 400 (0.75 mL) and oleic  acid (0.25 mL) in primary layer and Eudragit RLPO (0.35gm) and PEG 400 (0.105 mL) in  secondary layer. The optimized formulation containing showed 109.1 μg /hr/cm2 linear  diffusion of drug, 6.33 kg/mm2 tensile strength and 120.33 folding endurance. Drug and  polymers interactions were investigated by FTIR studies. FTIR of ondansetron has shown  intense band at 3486.61 cm-1, 2922.38cm-1, and 1651.99 cm-1 corresponding to presence of  functional groups such as NH group, C-C-Aromatic group and C-C-Aliphatic group. FT-IR of  optimized batch had intense bands at 3498.22 cm-1, 2929.13 cm-1, and 1635.88 cm-1 which  indicate no change in the functional groups such as NH group, C-C-Aromatic group, C-C- Aliphatic and confirmed undisturbed structure of ondansetron, which indicate no drug- excipients interaction. Thus, Ondansetron hydrochloride can be effectively formulated as  bilayered transdermal patch, and it is possible to achieve adequate physicochemical parameters  and desired drug diffusion profile with the optimum combination of polymers. 

The U.S. Army Crew Station Research and Development Facility uses vintage 1984 speech recognizers. An evaluation was performed of newer off-the-shelf speech recognition devices to determine whether newer technology performance and capabilities are substantially better than that of the Army's current speech recognizers. The Phonetic Discrimination (PD-100) Test was used to compare recognizer performance in two ambient noise conditions: quiet office and helicopter noise. Test tokens were spoken by males and females and in isolated-word and connected-work mode. Better overall recognition accuracy was obtained from the newer recognizers. Recognizer capabilities needed to support the development of human factors design requirements for speech command systems in advanced combat helicopters are listed.

Reflecting the two tasks proposed for the current year, namely a feasibility study of simulating the NASA network, and a study of progressive transmission schemes, are presented. The view of the NASA network, gleaned from the various technical reports made available to use, is provided. Also included is a brief overview of how the current simulator could be modified to accomplish the goal of simulating the NASA network. As the material in this section would be the basis for the actual simulation, it is important to make sure that it is an accurate reflection of the requirements on the simulator. Brief descriptions of the set of progressive transmission algorithms selected for the study are contained. The results available in the literature were obtained under a variety of different assumptions, not all of which are stated. As such, the only way to compare the efficiency and the implementational complexity of the various algorithms is to simulate them.

The alternate methods of conducting a man-machine interface evaluation are classified as static and dynamic, and are evaluated. A dynamic evaluation tool is presented to provide for a determination of the effectiveness of the man-machine interface in terms of the sequence of operations (task and task sequences) and in terms of the physical characteristics of the interface. This dynamic checklist approach is recommended for shuttle and shuttle payload man-machine interface evaluations based on reduced preparation time, reduced data, and increased sensitivity of critical problems.

This report covers the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of a new task and videodisc-based simulator, the Interactive Graphics Simulator (IGS). The test vehicle was the 6883 Converter Flight Control Test Station and its associated training course at Lowry AFB, Colorado. The computer-based simulator provided for task emulation of job planning tasks, as well as for equipment manipulation tasks. The simulation system provided a means of on-line task analysis, of simulation development from the task data base, of presenting simulations to students, and of adapting simulation presentation to the level of student achievement. Simulation lessonware covered both procedural equipment operation and troubleshooting activities. A comparative study was performed with 22 students using the actual equipment trainer (AET) during training and 21 students using the IGS. Evaluation of the outcomes included training effectiveness analyses based on a conventional ATC block test, on a hands-on equipment operating procedures test, on a paper-and-pencil troubleshooting test, and on a predictive job performance test. The IGS-trained students performed significantly better on the troubleshooting test; however, no other significant performance differences were found. A comparison of the IGS and AET costs showed the IGS to be substantially less expensive in terms of acquisition and operating costs. Student attitudes toward the IGS were favorable, and the system operated extremely well in a standard ATC classroom environment.

TO EXAMINE THIS HYPOTHESIS, RESEARCH WAS CONDUCTED (1) TO EXPLORE THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN LINGUISTIC HABITS AND ATTITUDE SOCIALIZATION IN UNDERPRIVILEGED CHILDREN AND (2) TO COMPARE THE LANGUAGE BEHAVIOR AND ATTITUDES TOWARD HOME AND SCHOOL OF LOWER AND MIDDLE CLASS CHILDREN. AN EXPERIMENTAL POPULATION OF 54 FIRST THROUGH THIRD GRADE STUDENTS FROM AN ISOLATED RURAL AREA WAS COMPARED WITH A CONTROL POPULATION FROM THE SAME 3 GRADES OF AN UPPER-MIDDLE CLASS SUBURBAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. COLLECTION OF DIALECT SAMPLES PROVIDED INDICES OF PHONOLOGICAL, LEXICAL, AND SYNTACTICAL VARIANTS WHICH DIFFERENTIATED THE LINGUISTIC BEHAVIORS OF THE 2 POPULATIONS. THREE SOCIALIZATION MEASURES, DESIGNED TO ASSESS THE CHILD'S ACCEPTANCE OF MIDDLE CLASS VALUES, WERE DEVELOPED. AFTER PRETESTING WITH POPULATION SAMPLES SIMILAR TO THE CONTROL AND EXPERIMENTAL GROUPS, THE SOCIALIZATION MEASURES WERE ADMINISTERED TO THE TEST GROUPS AND SPEECH SAMPLES ELICITED FROM THEM. ALTHOUGH ANALYSIS OF THE DATA IS IN PROGRESS, THE COMPUTATION OF CORRELATION COEFFICIENTS FOR SOCIALIZATION AND LINGUISTIC VARIABLES HAS, THUS FAR, FAILED TO SUPPORT THE ORIGINAL HYPOTHESIS REGARDING THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN ATTITUDE SOCIALIZATION AND LINGUISTIC BEHAVIOR. This document reports on a study of the frequency with which professional tasks are performed by industrial arts education teachers in Wisconsin and the importance they attach to those tasks. To obtain data the following questions were asked of junior high, junior-senior high, senior high, and capstone-level teachers: What differences, if any, exist between each set of two teacher groups in their response to the frequency with which they perform their professional tasks? What differences, if any, exist between each set of two teacher groups in their response to the importance they attach to their professional tasks? Data are presented in a series of 45 tables. Examination of those tasks for which responses to either frequency or importance were found to be significantly different between teacher groups is recommended as a step in developing an instructional program to help with professional task development. The study concludes that the teacher groups tend to be drawn from one population in terms of their perceptions of both frequency and importance of their professional tasks. (PD)

A four-stage model (goal setting, program planning, program implementation, program evaluation) for achieving diversity in the means and ends of education is suggested. Its major thrust is for more educational programming at the local school level. (MS)

We will use a quasi-experimental community-level longitudinal cohort design to estimate the effects of receiving a Choice Neighborhoods implementation grant on community violence among youth and young adults aged 10-34 years. This policy has been adopted by different places and at different times, permitting the comparison of treated communities to similar but never-treated (or not-yet-treated) comparison communities. Our study period begins in 2008, three years prior to the first award announcement, and continues through 2021. Research Questions & Hypotheses Q1: Are Choice Neighborhood implementation grants effective at reducing community violence among youth and young adults? H1: Choice Neighborhood implementation grants will be associated with reductions in rates of community violence. Q2: Are Choice Neighborhood implementation grants effective at reducing racial and ethnic disparities in community violence among youth and young adults? H2: Choice Neighborhood implementation grants will not be associated with reductions in racial and ethnic disparities in community violence in the affected neighborhoods. While racial and ethnic disparities in community violence in affected cities may be impacted, this is outside the scope of the analysis.

The goal of this project was to develop and demonstrate the potential of a versatile class of nano-biosensors capable of being implanted within individual living cells for the direct conversion of biochemical signaling events into electronic information. In order to monitor the various biochemical species responsible for intracellular signaling (e.g., proteins), with minimal stress to the cell during analysis, we are developing nanobead sensors between 200 and 500 nm in diameter that are capable of being non-invasively positioned at different locations within a living cell via optical tweezers. These sensors employ surface enhance Raman spectroscopy (SERS) and allow for the qualitative as well as quantitative monitoring of the expression of the specific proteins required for cellular response. Monitoring intracellular signaling species in this fashion allows for the detection of the earliest possible signals associated with a stimulation event, as well as allows for the differentiation of various events from one another at the earliest possible time.

The study was undertaken to examine the Single Integrated Development Test Cycle (SIDTC) policy and its operation in Development Test and Evaluation. The study examines the background leading to implementation of the integrated test policy, outlines the roles of major participants in programs utilizing SIDTC, describes the importance of the Test Integration Working Group (TIWG) and Coordinated Test Program (CTP) to succesful functioning of a SIDTC, and examines effects of SIDTC on key participants (developer, development tester, evaluator, and contractor) over a period of approximately 21 months. A general lack of quantified data precludes definitive conclusions as to success or failure of SIDTC; examples of successful utilization in five notable programs are reported.

A survey of the district's elementary principals and teachers and of the substitutes working at two elementary schools indicated that substitute teachers should be evaluated, that an inservice program for substitutes was needed to help provide information and direction that could improve their overall effectiveness, and that there was strong support for the development of a handbook that would outline basic procedures that substitutes could rely on and follow wherever they worked in the county. In response to what was learned from the surveys, the authors designed and conducted an informational workshop for substitutes in the elementary schools in Eastern Henrico County (Virginia), devised and developed a handbook for substitutes, and ascertained whether the information workshop, procedural suggestions, handbook, and evaluation guidelines helped improve the performance of the substitutes. PNP is one of the most urgent problems of modern medicine. Despite a long study of the problem of miscarriage, the etiological factors, pathogenetic mechanisms of spontaneous miscarriage have not yet been fully disclosed. The main difficulty in determining the immediate cause of abortion is due to the fact that miscarriage is a multifactorial process in which some factors may be of paramount importance, while others will be the background. In practice, in a particular clinical case, it can be quite difficult to separate them. Obviously, the causes of miscarriage must be considered in the light of the causes of deterioration in reproductive health in general.

Every major command within the Department of Defense shares an acute interest in the cost effective utilization of research and development results in the field. The Naval Facilities Engineering Command's awareness of the frequently heard statement from the field, \"We tell the laboratory what is needed in the field; why don't they research it?,*' resulted in a long-range program to enhance the organization's transfer of technology. This thesis is an effort to determine the following: Is relevant information being received in the field? How much is received? Why is it not received? The thesis also measures the progress made by NAVFAC over the past decade and examines methods to increase the technology reception capacity of the users. The results of the study strongly indicate laboratory support has steadily improved during the past twelve years and the field organizations that utilize research results have a positive opinion of the laboratory and its research data.

A summary is presented of the major findings of a program whose objective was to investigate the phenomenon of preferential heat generation around damaged regions in composite materials subjected to mechanical vibrations and to develop an understanding of the mechanisms involved in this process. Vibrothermography is a nondestructive inspection technique based upon the utilization of this phenomenon. It has been found that this technique has considerable potential for inspecting composite materials. A significant amount of knowledge has been gained concerning the nature of the heat generation process and the relation of the frequency dependence of the heat patterns to the mechanical excitations. In particular, we how have convincing evidence that the heat generation around a delamination-type defect occurs preferentially at frequencies corresponding to natural resonance modes of anisotropic plates having the size of the delamination and subjected to fixed-fixed boundary conditions.

This revision reflects the TRADOC Test and Evaluation realignment of 3 December 1980 to improve administration, management and capabilities of TRADOC's user test and evaluation programs. The development of a Web-Based Resident Information Management System simplifies the process of storing and accessing information of residents compared to the traditional way of information management. Having this kind of system, the barangay could easily perform its duty to the public like planning and implementing different programs and granting other document requests like residence certificates and permits. The Rapid Application Development (RAD) model was utilized as a system development method since it emphasizes the quick design development cycle and high-quality outcomes. The system was undergone testing and evaluation using six ISO 25010 criteria. An average mean result of 3.48 for functional suitability, 3.62 for performance efficiency, 3.58 for compatibility, 3.42 for usability, 3.44 for reliability, and 3.51 for security shows that the developed system met the user requirements and is ready for implementation.  This will make it easier for the barangay to maintain residents’ records and provide hassle-free services.

Several new severity scores, the Triage Score, the Triage Index, and Trauma Score, were evaluated for patients with penetrating injuries. The scores, are composed of measures easily obtained by either medical or paramedical personnel using noninvasive techniques and without resorting to instrumentation. The data for the study were obtained from a series of 864 consecutive patients treated at the Washington Hospital Center for penetrating injuries. The data consisted of outcome information (survivor or non-survivor) and coded hospital admission values of seven variables: respiratory expansion, capillary refill, eye opening, best verbal response to stimulus, best motor response to stimulus, respiratory rate, and systolic blood pressure. The Triage Score and Triage Index are functions of the first 5 variables in the list, while the Trauma Score depends on all 7 variables. Probability of survival estimates for the Triage Score, Triage Index, and Trauma Score were obtained using a logistic function method. The predictive 'power' of each of the severity measures was computed for the penetrating injury data. All three measures were extremely powerful predictors of mortality for this data set. Probability of survival estimates were also obtained for the Trauma Score and Triage Score for combined penetrating and blunt injury data. We believe that the Triage Score or Trauma Score could be incorporated into military triage rationales at several echelons of care.

This regulation prescribes policies, responsibilities, and planning guidance for realistic consideration of climatic conditions in the research, development, test, and evaluation (RDTE) of material used in combat by the Army.

The ability to manufacture complex propellant grains with additive manufacturing processes necessitates the ability to numerically predict grain regression during the design process. A numerical tool developed by the U.S. Army Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center, Picatinny Arsenal, NJ, which uses an Eulerian volume-of-fluid approach to solve the phase-field equation, is able to accurately predict grain regression for arbitrary solid propellant geometries. Numerical results generated using this tool are validated against commonly-used propellant grain geometries with exact regression solutions, and the capability of the tool to analyze an additive-manufactured grain with complex internal structures is presented.

This publication was designed to help teachers learn about promising materials, methods, and techniques for teaching creative thinking and problem solving to disadvantaged elementary school children. Two kinds of reviews of published teaching materials for specific grade levels and subject areas are included: (1) reviews of commercially published materials dealing with creativity and problem solving and (2) reviews of books that can be used, as teaching aids and/or stimulus materials. In addition, information about teaching methods which can be adapted by the teacher to fit any grade level and subject area is presented. Detailed tasks, exercises, and procedures for teaching creativity and problem solving in the classroom are included. Most of the materials reviewed in this publication will work well in open and individualized classrooms; however, teachers who maintain a more traditional classroom organization will find that many of the materials and methods can be adapted to meet their needs. Due to the belief that written communication about a deaf blind child among professional examiners and treatment agencies can be more accurate and precise, the experimenters developed and evaluated a video tape protocol for the examination of the communication skills of 20 multiply handicapped deaf blind children, who ranged from 3 to 8 years in age. The video tape project stresses interaction of the experimenters with numerous professional consultants and judges experienced in management, education, examination, and evaluation of multiply handicapped children. Prototype development utilizes Behavior Stimulation Procedures (BSP) which consist of five 10-minute units: unstructured orientation of child in examining area, child's task orientation and ability to perform simple eveyday tasks, stimulus orientation in which the child is bombarded with sensory stimuli, interpersonal orientation, and interview with person working with child. Ten consultant judges, using a prototype video tape procedure and behavior rating scale, which consists of the following eight behavior categories: auditory, visual, tactile, and gustatory-olfactory receptive behaviors; and object centered, people centered, tactile motor expressive, and oral expressive communication (see EC 040 600 for scale), evaluate each 10-minute segment of the 20 films, yielding 8000 discrete data items. Project evaluation indicates the films are successful. (CB)

The material for a course in college and university administration and management, which utilizes a Planning, Programming, Budgeting and Evaluation System (PPBES) as well as a Management Information System (MIS), is provided. The course permits the student to progress at his/her own pace, and makes use of audiovisual materials, such as tape cassettes, film, transparencies, as well as the traditional lecture and small group discussion method and reading materials. The five units of the course are: Planning; Programming; Budgeting; Evaluation; and Management Information Systems. Forms by which the student evaluates each unit, questionnaires related to course revision and course evaluation, and a post-evaluation self-test are provided. The Rural Family Development (RFD) Project endeavored to instruct disadvantaged adults in basic skills through a home-based, multi-media system. The report, the last of three, is divided into three sections. The first (18 pages) contains five essays defining the basic positions taken by the RFD staff and discussion of the influences these positions had on the design of the project. The second section describes the RFD system (80 pages) as it was implemented during the 20-week field test--a mediated system using television, information bulletins, home visits, radio, a monthly Almanac, and toll-free 24-hour telephone service--and evaluations (180 pages). An internal evaluation by the RFD staff and the University of Wisconsin Psychometric Laboratory determined, through a survey instrument and personal interviews, that the home visit and media format were successfully received by the adult students. An external evaluation by the Human factors Research Laboratory reported mixed responses to the way in which the media were used and as to how well the objectives were met. The final section (six pages) discusses project information dissemination. (AG)
