2ERIC EJ720535: The Content And Form Of Reader-Generated Questions: Implications For Teaching Questioning Strategies

Two classes in Developmental Reading were trained in question-formulation and were then required to ask any number and type of questions based on four texts. Three inter-raters coded the questions for their content and form. The results of the study showed the dominance of recognition or retrieval questions, suggesting the students' proficiency in reading for details and conversely, a deficiency in critical reading. In terms of form, although 57% of the questions were coherent and grammatical, this fact alone may not indicate a high English Language proficiency. There were also many instances of the direct copying of phrases from the original text, pointing to the students' lack of confidence or ability in summarizing and paraphrasing.

Presented is an evaluation of the effect of the three most commonly used question classification systems on preservice teachers' ability to classify questions and on their attitude toward questioning. Thirty elementary science teachers were randomly assigned to one of three treatment levels. Each treatment level consisted of self-instructional modules in which the Aschner, Bloom, or Sanders category systems were presented. Standardized gain scores were compared for each treatment, and results indicated that the Aschner-based question classification system had some advantages over the other two systems in terms of improving ability to recognize and classify questions based on cognitive levels and a more positive attitude toward using the classification system. 6ERIC ED358499: Co-learner Questions Affect Comprehension Monitoring And Questioning Intentions.

Asking questions is a salient event in group learning environments such as classrooms. Laboratory experimental results indicate that co-learner questions can affect judgments of comprehension. A study involving 94 male and 209 female students at a large midwestern university examined whether students would be aware of such alterations in comprehension judgments in classroom settings. Results indicated that students' awareness of having monitored their comprehension was higher when co-learners asked questions, and in a classroom where teachers discouraged questioning. Students indicated lower levels of understanding when an inquiring co-learner rarely asked a question, and in a class where questions were discouraged more than encouraged. Contrary to prediction and prior evidence, there was no indication that whether co-learners did or did not ask questions influenced students' judgments of comprehension adequacy. Students indicated that they were more likely to ask a question when other students asked, when a questioner had rarely done so in the past, and when teachers encouraged questioning. Dieser war von 1155 an Kanzler des englischen Königs Heinrich II (1133 - 1189). We can never allow the great objective facts of Christianity, and their attendant doctrines, to sink low on our horizon; but we must give equal prominence to the demands of Christ for a righteousness which shall exceed that of the Scribes and Pharisees, and a perfection which shall resemble that of God. We have no right to be content with saying "Lord, Lord;" we must do the things which He says. <br /><br />Of course, the right kind of obedience is impossible, apart from the Cross and the Spirit. We must be reconciled before we can become obedient children; we must be filled with the Spirit before "the fragrance of Christ" can be manifested through us in every place. The Sermon on the Mount must be read in the transfiguring light which shines backwards from the later events in our Lord's life. <br /><br />When, however, this is borne in mind, each sentence of that marvelous discourse glistens with celestial radiance, and rings with the music of the Gospel.
