3A Cluster And Association Analysis Visualization Using Moodle Activity Log Data

The course activity log is where a learning management system (LMS) like Moodle keeps track of the various learning activities. The instructor may directly examine the log or use more complex method such as data mining to conduct a quicker and more in-depth examination of the student's behaviors. Most previous studies on analyzing this log data rely on predictive analysis. Instead of predictive analysis, this study investigates cluster analysis and association analysis. Cluster analysis based on k-means++ is utilized to organize students into groups, given their engagement in the learning course module. Association analysis based on apriori is utilized to extract the relationships between various student activities. A dashboard presentation of the findings is provided to facilitate clearer comprehension. Based on the analysis findings, it can be concluded that the structure of the student cluster is medium. In contrast, the association between student activities is positively correlated and well-balanced. The subjective review of the dashboard reveals that the visualization is already sufficient, but there are some recommendations for making it even better.

4ERIC ED557184: Using Self-Reflection And Badges In Moodle-Based Medical English Review Courses For Enhancing Learners' Autonomy

English has become increasingly important for Japanese medical professionals in Japan. However, the curricula at medical schools in Japan are so extensive that the time allocated for English classes is usually very limited, which means those classes often do not have the depth or scope to improve the English communication skills of medical students to the level necessary for their future career. Therefore, language teachers are expected to not only improve English curricula but also offer effective and attractive review courses for students' autonomous study. The authors of this paper have created Moodle-based English courses to improve the English curricula by integrating "blended-learning" in class. They also have started to provide ongoing access to a range of review courses to help their students' autonomous study. This paper outlines how the authors integrated a self-reflective framework and a badge function in the review courses they created. It also illustrates how the framework will help learners find the suitable course at the right level and how issuing badges will help motivate learners to engage with the module or the course they have chosen. Owing to the subject nature of marketing research, majority marketing students perceive the subject is difficult and boring when comparing with other marketing subjects such as consumer behavior, service marketing, and integrated marketing communications. The study attempts to explore whether the additional usage of Facebook facilitates the associate degree students to learn more effectively or not. The research findings are positive and the marketing students prefer using Facebook to supplement Moodle for enriching their learning experiences. Furthermore, students are found to acquire better understanding of marketing research concepts and applications. In general, they welcome the usage of Facebook for teaching and learning activities.

"Research Project" is a new addition to the Greek educational system established in the 1st and 2nd year of high school, as a distinct course of the Curriculum. In this paper we study the use of the platform Moodle, in order to organize and implement this course. This use took place in the 2nd four-month period of the academic year 2012-2013. The students, apart from the weekly 2 hour long classes, had the chance to implement different parts of their project on Moodle. The main use of Moodle comprised the submission of written projects, the receipt of relevant feedback, the planning of the collaboration among students, the participation in open discussions for a better implementation of the course, and the registration of various data from the students total input to the group project. Using quantity and quality evaluation methods it was found that the students are able to familiarize with the platform and benefit from its incorporation to the educational process. The platform is still in use with improvements from the educational and technological point of view.

The aim of this study is to enlighten and discuss Post Graduate student teachers' first time experiences and their level of satisfaction with the use of Moodle Learning Management System (LMS) during their "Research Methods in Education" course offered online. This study investigated 30 pre-service Post Graduate student teachers' to analyze their first time experiences and satisfaction in a Course Management System (MOODLE). The findings of this study indicated that PG Student teacher's supported and were very interested in learning through the given e-platform. It is also recommended to extend the e-platform for all other courses in teacher education programme.

With the new approach to guide the learning process of students with a model based on the development of competences, and in comparison with the traditional lecture-based learning, it is necessary to start working with the teaching modalities that help to achieve this objective. With that in mind, the aim of the study reported in this article was to show that through the use of active teaching methods focusing on the development of competences we can improve the writing, speaking and research competences in English of the students who nowadays take university subjects in a foreign language in Colombia. The results showed that the support provided by the platform promotes student motivation in carrying out their self-learning, which contributes to the development of the mentioned competences.

This paper examines learners' perceptions of using Moodle books in the online course module "Contemporary society: conflicts and consensus" at Casa Grande University, Ecuador. It describes how learners perceived the use of Moodle books in 48-hour English content based courses. Courses were designed for final year students with a B2 English proficiency level according to the Common European Framework of Foreign languages (CEFR). The learners used Moodle books to access content organized and programmed in six thematic units according to the course learning objectives. Learners used content to access reading material and complete tasks planned synchronously and asynchronously. Learners responded to a post course survey in courses that ran from 2020 to 2021. The purpose of the survey was to know how learners perceived the organization, functionality, and effectiveness of Moodle books when accessing hyper-texted content, multimedia resources, and digital tools for content management, communication, and interaction in online courses for English for Specific Purposes (ESP). This short paper reports on the case of a tertiary level French language practitioner self-training in using Moodle Quiz during the COVID-19 pandemic online emergency remote teaching (Hodges et al., 2020). As no teacher training program included a topic such as 'how to deal with the pandemic', switching to online teaching was done under emergency conditions (MacIntyre, Gregersen, & Mercer, 2020). The practitioner had taken advantage of the situation and explored ways of self-training. She took advantage of Moodle Quiz (MQ) affordances. She experimented with different ways MQ could be used to construct a diverse number of quiz activities, embedded with audio and video, infused with elements of constructivism, and aiming at catering for the aims and expected outcomes of the specific students and course. Self-training helped the practitioner face the challenges of online emergency teaching as she developed knowledge, skills, and experiences necessary for creating online interactive activities. This study attempts to identify factors behind the usage of a blended learning approach that could have an effect on students' achievement, motivation, collaboration and communication as perceived by students. It also aims to analyze obstacles faced by students in using Moodle in blended learning. A sample of 283-students from all colleges at Sultan Qaboos University was randomly selected. A questionnaire of 45 items is developed to collect data. The results reveal that using Moodle in blended learning has an average level of effectiveness related to students' motivation with a mean of 3.216 and mean of 3.164 for students' achievements, and mean of 3.199 is related to students' collaborations and communication. The results showed there is no statistical significant difference among student perceptions related to gender and college type. The results also revealed that the highest obstacles facing students related to frequent disturbance in computer devices with mean 3.090. Based on the result of the study, many recommendations have been developed.
