This paper discussed challenges hindering effective instructional supervision of schools in Nigeria. Secondary data were used in the paper. The secondary data were gathered from print materials and online publications. The paper identified poor funding, shortage of supervisors, inadequate transportation facilities, poor capacity building programme, insecurity, shortage of supervision materials, poor communication skills, corruption and political instability as challenges hindering effective instructional supervision of schools in Nigeria. The paper hereby recommended an increment in the funding of school supervision.

The book is intended for those preparing for university entrance examinations in physics. The contents and sequence of topics are in keeping with the requirements for such examinations. The few sections beyond the en- trance examination programme are marked by circles. In view of the introduction of the elements of higher mathematics to the high-school curriculum, some problems have also been illustrated using differential calculus. The author has endeavoured to present the basic principles of school physics in a compact form to help the candidates revise the entire course in the shortest possible time. All sections have been illustrated with problems to give a better understanding of the subject. Each problem and its solution is followed by one or more exercises on the same topic, the exercises corresponding to problems that have been solved in the text are assigned the same number. Those intending to use this book independently are advised to attempt the exercises after going through the theoretical part. The relevant solved problems should be consulted if difficulties are encountered while solving the exercises. After this, the exercise should be tried again, and if there is more than one exercise bearing the same number, another exercise (preferably the last one) should be tackled. In most cases, the last exercises in a series are the most difficult.

We establish existence and uniqueness of solution for the homogeneous Dirichlet problem associated to a fairly general class of elliptic equations modeled by $$ -\Delta u= h(u){f} \ \ \text{in}\,\ \Omega, $$ where $f$ is an irregular datum, possibly a measure, and $h$ is a continuous function that may blow up at zero. We also provide regularity results on both the solution and the lower order term depending on the regularity of the data, and we discuss their optimality.

A previous study of new item types for the analytical measure of the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) General Test found that the new items had many factors labeled verbal reasoning, informal reasoning, formal-deductive reasoning, and quantitative reasoning. The present study examined how processing differed for these item types in the context of a problem-space framework. Protocols of 16 graduate and undergraduate students solving a small set of items aloud were collected and examined according to problem representation and problem solution. The representation of formal-deductive items involved the use of meaning-reduced tokens and spatial diagrams. The units involved in the representation of informal reasoning and verbal reasoning item types included meaningful propositions and meaning-emphasized paraphrases. The order of processes of evaluation and justification was found to differ for formal-deductive items and other item types. Item solutions also varied in terms of the kinds of justifications that were offered by the examinees for accepting or rejecting options. These results illustrate how the addition of some item types to the GRE analytical measure will expand the variety of reasoning skills assessed. Implications of these results for cognitive models of reasoning are also discussed. Six tables and one figure illustrate the analysis. (Contains 36 references.) (Author/SLD)

This aim of this study is to examine the views of teachers, administrators and parents about the problems that emerge during family involvement in preschool activities and solutions for these problems. The participants were 10 teachers, 10 parents and 10 administrators from 4 preschools and 6 kindergartens in the Palandöken and Yakutiye districts of Erzurum. Data was collected via semi-structured interviews and analyzed using descriptive and content analysis. The results show that teachers and administrators organize various family involvement activities, and parents participate in one or more of them. Family-involvement activities were found to be affected by factors such as time, cost, interaction, order, sharing, getting familiar with each other, ease of transportation, updated notice boards, technology, school facilities, security, control, requirement, and participation size. The participants mentioned the following among the problems they faced in family involvement activities: unwillingness; lack of time; fatigue; negative attitudes; the behavior of teachers' spouses, parents, and teachers; irrelevance; low participation; families unable to express themselves; program changes; disinterest; illiteracy among families; ineffective presentations; constant complaints; favoritism; attention deficit in children; difficulty in leaving; conflicts; financial difficulties; unannounced home visits by teachers; gender; and transportation. They were observed to battle these problems by setting aside time, getting help, using effective communication, ensuring high participation, exercising control, updating notice boards, showing guidance and trying to adapt.

The paper presents a study investigating the net-based learner autonomy of the first-year non-English major students studying in West Anhui University (WAHU). Through questionnaires and interviews, the study shows the problems in learner autonomy and presents a new perspective for the development of an auto-learning environment. The study reveals that students had difficulty adapting to net-based learning mode. Some proposals that the college, teachers and students could unite to tackle the problems in learning have been put forth as the solutions to the problems.

The U.S. Marine Corps is replacing its A-6E TRAM aircraft with the two seat F/A-18D. With the exception of the F-15E \"Strike Eagle\", never has a tactical aircraft been capable of processing such vast amounts of multi-mission data and displaying that fighter/attack information to the aircrew. These vast capabilities have led to some problems in the area of F/A-18D aircrew coordination. This thesis will review communication flows and tasking procedures that exist in many Group Decision Support Systems (GDSS) to develop guidelines that are applicable to tactical aircraft aircrew coordination procedures. These guidelines will then be applied to combat mission essential F/A-18D cockpit communication and tasking procedures that should be executed during various scenarios. Additionally, simulator flight profiles will be postulated to test, evaluate and verify these procedures. This study provides a framework on combat procedures that will not only benefit the Marine Corps' F/A- 18D community, but as they start bringing into their inventory the two seat F/A-18E/F, the U.S. Navy as well.

Outdoor leaders constantly face problems created by water shortage and, to act effectively, must thoroughly understand the body's use of water and the ways to delay dehydration when water shortage occurs. Dehydration begins when there is a negative water balance, or more water lost than ingested, and progresses from the stage of dryness, to the "cotton mouth" stage, and finally to the stage of structural degeneration. The symptoms of dehydration progress from thirst and general uneasiness to sensory impairment and inability to think rationally. Dehydration can be counteracted by increasing water intake and reducing water loss. The body assimilates fresh water most easily, but other water sources are available to the knowledgeable person. For example, urine of a fully hydrated person may be ingested while urine of a dehydrated person should not be ingested, though it can be used to lower skin temperature through evaporation; wash wounds, stings, and bites; or operate a solar still. Reduction of water loss is accomplished by proper ingestion of available water, preventing perspiration, using clothing to protect from heat and evaporation, and avoiding all types of dehydrators, i.e., alcohol, blood, salt, proteins, and fats.
