When playing games in groups, it is an advantage for individuals to have accurate statistical information on the strategies of their opponents. Such information may be obtained by remembering previous interactions. We consider a rock-scissors-paper game in which agents are able to recall their last $m$ interactions, used to estimate the behaviour of their opponents. At critical memory length, a Hopf bifurcation leads to the formation of stable limit cycles. In a mixed population, agents with longer memories have an advantage, provided the system has a stable fixed point, and there is some asymmetry in the payoffs of the pure strategies. However, at a critical concentration of long memory agents, the appearance of limit cycles destroys their advantage. By introducing population dynamics that favours successful agents, we show that the system evolves toward the bifurcation point.

Testing embedded memories in a chip can be very challenging due to their high-density nature and manufactured using very deep submicron (VDSM) technologies. In this review paper, functional fault models which may exist in the memory are described, in terms of their definition and detection requirement. Several memory testing algorithms that are used in memory built-in self-test (BIST) are discussed, in terms of test operation sequences, fault detection ability, and also test complexity. From the studies, it shows that tests with 22 N of complexity such as March SS and March AB are needed to detect all static unlinked or simple faults within the memory cells. The N in the algorithm complexity refers to Nx*Ny*Nz whereby Nx represents the number of rows, Ny represents the number of columns and Nz represents the number of banks. This paper also looks into optimization and further improvement that can be achieved on existing March test algorithms to increase the fault coverage or to reduce the test complexity.

The participants in this computer-based experiment are randomly assigned to one of two groups. Everyone first takes part in five rounds of a concentration game. The control group plays the game the common way using their own memory abilities whereas the experimental group is required to take accompanying notes to help them completing the concentration game in as few turns as possible. After playing five games, the participants have to watch a video for five minutes which serves as a distraction. This is followed by three different kinds of memory tests. Importantly, the experimental group is not informed in advance that their notes will be taken away before the tests. At first, participants solve a free recall test in which they are asked to write down as many words as possible for pictures they have seen during the concentration game (time limit: 10 minutes). This is followed by a “Recognition Test” in which four pictures of similar looking objects are shown and participants have to decide which of them actually appeared in the concentration game. In the last test, the participants see a picture that they have seen in one of the concentration games. Next to the picture, they see the 6x5 matrix of the concentration game. The task of the participants is to click on one of the two positions at which the picture was located in the concentration games. Both picture recognition test and position recognition test are each performed for each of the 75(5x15) pictures. The main aim of this study is to investigate whether cognitive offloading can be beneficial for memory under certain conditions, even if the offloaded material is no longer available during recall.

AI ML workloads are becoming more widely used while their reliable hardware execution stands as a crucial factor especially when considering aggressive technology advancements and NVM technology adoption. The special session demonstrates extensive research into reliability enhancement methods for AI ML hardware infrastructure at architectural and system levels and design time through neuromorphic and multiprocessor system studies. The discussion highlights three chief technical points which include elevated fault sensitivity of systems and aging mechanics due to voltage effects as well as the sustaining of reliability against hardware decay. The research shows breakthrough approaches which comprise Rox ANN for efficient ANN implementation and PALP and DATACON methods for PCM memory optimization as well as MNEME and HEBE systems to manage NVM and hybrid memory aging and RENEU for neuromorphic reliability modelling under workload conditions. This work studies system level methods that integrate thermal aware task mapping and aging aware checkpoint distribution and performs a combined analysis between DVFS and replication techniques in multiprocessor task scheduling. Abstract On the development of flexible electronics, a highly flexible nonvolatile memory, which is an important circuit component for the portability, is necessary. However, the flexibility of existing nonvolatile memory has been limited, e.g. the smallest radius into which can be bent has been millimeters range, due to the difficulty in maintaining memory properties while bending. Here we propose the ultra flexible resistive nonvolatile memory using Ag-decorated cellulose nanofiber paper (CNP). The Ag-decorated CNP devices showed the stable nonvolatile memory effects with 6 orders of ON/OFF resistance ratio and the small standard deviation of switching voltage distribution. The memory performance of CNP devices can be maintained without any degradation when being bent down to the radius of 350 μm, which is the smallest value compared to those of existing any flexible nonvolatile memories. Thus the present device using abundant and mechanically flexible CNP offers a highly flexible nonvolatile memory for portable flexible electronics.

This paper explores the structural divergence between memory and perspective within the entangled cognition model presented in The Relative Framework. While often treated as functionally similar, both being reconstructions of temporal information, we reveal their foundational equivalence yet purposive opposition: one seeks narrative closure, the other predictive leverage. Emotional salience is shown to be the primary filter in memory compression, biasing recall toward identity coherence rather than truth. We then turn to the concept of death, not as an experiential end-state, but as the final collapse of structural continuity, entropic unraveling of reactive feedback, and the ultimate invalidation of perceived agency. In this, we position death as the chaos theory of the mind, where causally determined variation meets non-narrative termination.

In the first section of the paper, learning and memory are discussed and factors needed for adults to learn the hows and whys of adult motivation are then discussed. The paper next covers the setting of adult learning and the differences between short-term and long-term memory. Activities by which teachers of adults can facilitate the retention and transfer of learning are listed and explained, and techniques suggested by some researchers are offered. "Music Fiddling in an Indigenous Q'anjob'al Maya Harvest Ceremony, Religious Customs, and Memory" by Juan Francisco Cristobal abstract: During the annual autumnal equinox, Q’anjob’al (Kanjobal) Maya chief praysayers in Santa Eulalia, Guatemala, processes in a circuit around the mountain slopes, near-sacred Maya crosses to offer sacrifices, prayers, and fiddle performances for a prosperous harvest. The indigenous Maya fiddle has become the center of discussion around a collective memory and the revitalization of ancient religious customs among the Q’anjob’al Maya people. However, these perspectives have not adequately addressed imposed musical practice that has sustained indigenous religious customs in Santa Eulalia and its vicinity. In this paper, I problematize colonial music’s effect and memory in indigenous religious customs by looking at how the Q’anjob’al praysayers have appropriate and perform the fiddle in their religious performances. I contend that the confluence of Spanish string instruments with indigenous Maya religious customs is the product of a transcultural discourse that frames the modern fiddle tradition of the Q’anjob’al people and sustains to accompany their local religious customs and musical memory of their ancestors. By drawing from my fieldwork in Santa Eulalia, this paper seeks to address the Pan-Maya Movement’s ongoing efforts in Guatemala to revitalize Ancient Maya epistemologies, religious customs, and performances in the 21st century. This vital topic sheds new light on the conversation of fiddle traditions in the Americas that have survived within indigenous performances and have come to define contemporary Q’anjob’al Maya folk music. Juan Francisco Cristobal is a 5th year Ph.D. student in the Department of Ethnomusicology at UCLA's Herb Alpert School of Music and holds an M.A. in Ethnomusicology. He attained a B.A. in Music Education from Adams State University. Juan is of Q'anjob'al Maya descent from Guatemala, a first-generation student, and an avid marimbist. As a researcher, he focuses on the Maya people's music traditions in Guatemala, particularly the indigenous fiddle and marimba performances in Q'anjob'al Maya religious customs, mourning, and the Day of the Dead. His research interests also include the concepts of indigeneity, musical memory, and cultural sustainability among the indigenous people of Central America and their diaspora.

This study examined the effects of the type of adjunct questions (use-a-generality, remember-a-generality, and remember-an-instance) and the position of these questions either before the relevant text passage (pre-questions) or after it (post-questions) on the three corresponding performance levels of learning. The subjects were 74 eighth-grade students at a suburban school in Syracuse, New York, and the materials for the learning task consisted of an approximately 450-word passage selected from a social studies textbook for this grade level. Six different treatment groups were used, with each group receiving adjunct questions which varied as to performance level and placement of the questions. The results were analyzed separately for each level of performance as well as for the total test score. None of the effects reached significance for any of the subtests. These results suggest that, in order to optimize learning, the position of the adjunct questions must be taken into account as well as the type of question to be used. Ninety-five Indian college students were randomly assigned to four treatment conditions resulting from the task sequences of 1) easy-to-hard and 2) hard-to-easy and from memory support versus nonmemory support. Results showed that subjects receiving the easy-to-hard sequence did significantly better on the performance test than did those receiving the hard-to-easy sequence. Also, the memory support treatment groups had significantly fewer errors on the performance test than did the nonmemory support groups. The instructional condition of easy-to-hard sequence plus memory support was the optimal treatment and provided manipulatable variables for applied usage. (Author)

Evidence from studies of memory for meaningful materials such as sentences and prose passages is reviewed in this paper with emphasis on its implications for the nature of the memory representation. It is argued that models of memory which involve the retrieval of stored copies of originally presented material cannot account for two crucial phenomena: (1) the retention of meaning in spite of losses in memory for specific wording, and (2) the "recall" of information which could only have been obtained by inference. Views of memory which include varying degrees of constructive, interpretive, and reconstructive processes are considered as alternatives to the copy model. These alternatives include theories based on psycholinguistic constructs and visual imagery, as well as positions involving the abstraction and reconstruction of information by means of more general integrative representations.
