5John Vennari Tribute (2019 Catholic Identity Conference)
By Catholic Family News
At the 2019 Catholic Identity Conference (CIC) held in Pittsburgh, PA (Nov. 1-3), just before the final speech of the conference (given by Christopher Ferrara), CIC organizer and emcee Michael Matt of @TheRemnantvideo honored longtime Catholic Family News (CFN) editor John Vennari (1958-2017) by playing John's hilarious music video, "Parody - Bergoglio and Synod" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBXpGagzEvw), which features John on guitar, bass, and vocals performing his own "Me and Bergoglio Down at the Synod" — a spoof on Paul Simon's "Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard". This tribute to John Vennari was recorded by current CFN managing editor Matt Gaspers, who attended the 2019 CIC. John's middle child, Philomena Vennari, was also at the conference as a staff member, which made this tribute all the more special. To learn more about CFN and our mission, please visit our website: https://catholicfamilynews.com God bless you and thanks for watching!

6ERIC ED397697: Diversity Within America's Catholic Colleges And Universities: Efforts And Linkages To Catholic Identity, Institutional Mission, And Leadership. Occasional Papers On Catholic Higher Education.
By ERIC
This document reports on a project conducted to seek previously uncollected information on Catholic colleges and universities with respect to institutional demographics and programs being used to increase diversity. The project goals also included exploring the impact of Catholic identity on these programs and testing the hypothesis that the religious character of an institution uniquely facilitates the development of a multicultural community. The project involved a survey of the 198 member institutions of the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities and statistical and other analyses of the 86 responses. The survey addressed institutional characteristics, campus activities concerning diversity, campus culture and climate, and overall forces and lessons learned concerning campus issues of diversity. This report is divided into four parts. Part 1 concentrates on ethnocultural diversity issues and the degree of diversity at Catholic colleges. Part 2 describes project objectives and methodology. Part 3 lists questionnaire items in the survey, and summarizes the responses. Part 4 highlights 13 of the 86 responding institutions and includes an annotated bibliography and biographical information about the authors of this document. A directory of university contacts is attached. (Contains 50 references.) (CK)

11ERIC EJ1118197: Catholic School Faculty Meetings: A Case Study Linking Catholic Identity, School Improvement, And Teacher Engagement
By ERIC
While research on faculty meetings is limited, existing literature suggests that meetings could be an arena where schools can address their most pressing challenges (Brandenburg, 2008; Michel, 2011; Riehl, 1998). Building on Macey and Schneider's (2008) Model of Employee Engagement and McGrath's Model of Group Effectiveness (1964), this case study examined the perceptions of teachers in a highperforming Catholic school regarding their own faculty meetings and how those meetings engaged them in the work of promoting Catholic identity and school improvement. Findings revealed signs of Catholic culture were visible within the physical environment of the faculty meeting, which provided opportunities for prayer, catechesis, and strategies for sharing faith with students. Teachers reported the faculty meetings served as a catalyst in developing, discussing, and reviewing school improvement plans, and provided opportunities for professional development. Faculty meetings assisted in creating a participant-centered learning environment and creating a sense of community among the faculty.

15ERIC EJ793927: Can A Catholic College Exist Today?: Challenges To Religious Identity In The Midst Of Pluralism
By ERIC
One of the most significant and important challenges facing any president of a Catholic college or university is maintaining and enhancing the religious identity and mission of the institution in the midst of the pluralism that exists on every Catholic campus in the United States. Catholic colleges and universities are at an important crossroad, a place where they have never been before. The shape of Catholic higher education is a picture that is being painted, in part by the different ways in which institutions of Catholic higher education express their Catholicity. Some express it with a progressive approach focusing on service and issues of peace and justice, others with a traditional approach focusing on reviving the Catholic intellectual tradition. Is one form of expression better than another? This is essentially a subjective question. But this expression of Catholic identity should be based in honesty. If an institution claims to be Catholic, then it should be so in more than name; its religious heritage should not be used merely as a marketing tool or to convince benefactors to part with their money. The identity of the institution should be the very lifeblood of everything that takes place there--impacting everything from curriculum to hires, programs to policies, and resource allocation to strategic decisions. The challenges currently facing Catholic higher education can be traced to the late 1960s when profound structural changes impacted the religious orientation of Catholic institutions.

16I Do Disclaim Both Ecclesiasticke And Politick Popery: Lay Catholic Identity In Early Moderrn Scotland
By Spurlock, R. Scott

18Arcivescovo Carlo Maria Viganò Vitium Consensus Catholic Identity Conference
By Arcivescovo Carlo Maria Viganò

21153. Understanding Identity And Personhood Through A Catholic Lens With Dr. Greg Bottaro
By Stephanie Winn (Some Kind of Therapist)
I have the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Greg Bottaro, a Catholic psychologist and founder of the Catholic Psych Institute. We delve into the complexities of identity, particularly in the context of gender dysphoria, and explore the importance of compassion in addressing these sensitive issues. Dr. Bottaro emphasizes the need for a blueprint for understanding the human person, which he believes is rooted in Catholic teachings. For a deep dive into this blueprint check out our other conversation in episode 152. We discuss how the Catholic vision of the human person can inform our approach to mental health and well-being. Dr. Bottaro shares insights on the unity of body and spirit, and how this understanding can help individuals who feel at odds with their identity. We also touch on the historical role of the Catholic Church in preserving knowledge and culture, and how this legacy can guide contemporary discussions about ethics and psychology. Throughout our conversation, we aim to explore critical questions: How can we approach those struggling with their identity with both compassion and truth? What does it mean to have a healthy understanding of personhood? And how can the principles of Catholicism provide a framework for healing and thriving in today's complex world? Join us as we navigate these profound topics and seek to understand the intersection of faith, reason, and mental health. Dr. Greg Bottaro is a Catholic psychologist, founder of the CatholicPsych Institute and creator of the CatholicPsych Model of Applied Personalism (CPMAP). He received his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Institute for the Psychological Sciences, and works to integrate Catholic philosophy and theology with relevant psychology. He leads the CatholicPsych Institute's mission to, "Create a Catholic Standard for Mental Health." Before becoming a psychologist, Dr. Bottaro discerned a religious vocation with the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal (CFRs). He lived in the Bronx for four years following the footsteps of St. Francis of Assisi. Under the mentorship of Fr. Benedict Groeschel, this experience formed him in the spirituality of Abandonment to Divine Providence, which he now integrates with his model of psychology, along with the discernment of God's will he learned from Fr. Benedict. In 2012, Dr. Bottaro returned to New York as a psychologist and founded the CatholicPsych Institute, which has continued to grow and serve clients around the world. Most recently he launched the CPMAP Certification to train others in their model of integrated accompaniment. He lives in Connecticut with his wife Barbra and their seven children. {{chapters}}00:00 Start [00:00:10] Compassion in identity struggles. [00:05:37] Civilization saved by Catholic Church. 22ERIC ED405646: Catholic High Schools: 1. History, Governance, Finance And Curriculum; 2. Catholic Identity And Student Outcomes; 3. Catholic Identity And Politics.
By ERIC
This paper discusses a project that attempts to update what is known about Catholic schools, articulates the shape and direction that the Catholic high schools have taken, and clarifies certain myths and lores of Catholic education--specifically, that Catholic identity has a direct impact on student achievement, and that Catholic identity is maintained exclusively by religious leadership. The first part describes the history, governance, finance, and curriculum of Catholic education. The second part analyzes whether Catholic schools are doing what they say they are doing. It specifically attacks the position that Catholic schools do not need to bar the laity from leadership positions on the grounds that the presence of lay leaders compromise the Catholic identity of a school and therefore can affect students and outcomes. The third part explores a case study of Delbarton School, a Catholic high school, and its preparation of lay leaders. A survey elicited responses from 50 out of 71 faculty members and administrators and 11 out of 18 parents. The majority of the respondents expressed a strong sense of community and belief in the school's religious mission. However, there was disagreement about who should conduct and lead the school's practices. The paper argues that laity should be considered for leadership positions, given the increased percentage of lay teachers and administrators and the high staff turnover. A copy of the questionnaire, data analyses, and 42 endnotes are included. (Contains 29 references.) (LMI)

By ERIC
The As We Teach and Learn program consists of an instrument to assess the Catholic dimension of a school and is designed to be used with study modules in a faculty-meeting format. Module topics include: "Faith Community"; "Faith Development"; "Religion Curriculum Articulation: Faith as the Root of all Instruction"; "Service Learning"; "Prayer and Liturgy Integration"; and "Social Justice." Each module has been created so that it can stand alone or be used with other modules. 28ERIC ED500462: Catholic Identity Today: A Position Paper
By ERIC
Maintaining a distinctive Catholic identity is a challenge for Catholic schools today. Religious identity must be nurtured and it must be contextualized for the 21st century. This paper suggests marks of contemporary Catholic character. Also, it proposes looking at religious identity through the lens of student experience and graduate outcomes. Finally, it suggests that we focus our attention on the following things to strengthen and enhance Catholicity: apostolic formation of staff, leadership succession, religion teacher qualifications, accountability and assessment, and resource allocation.

37Mons. Carlo Maria Viganò. Vitium Consensus - Catholic Identity Conference
By Confederazione Triarii
Testo dell'intervento: https://exsurgedomine.it/230930-cic-ita/

40ERIC EJ1006167: The Identity Of American Catholic Higher Education: A Historical Overview
By ERIC
American Catholic higher education has faced and overcome challenges, both from American higher education and Vatican Church officials, in its long and rich history. Georgetown College's founding in 1789 was the first of several Catholic higher education institutions created in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The 20th century brought the challenges of accrediting agencies and mixed communication with The Vatican, including Pope John Paul II's (1990) Ex Corde Ecclesiae. This document attempts to clarify the nature of a Catholic institution's identity. (Contains 5 tables.)

Through a secondary analysis of a case study on successful school leadership, this study inquired into the lived experiences and understandings of Catholic identity from the perspectives of administrators, faculty, staff, and students at one urban Catholic school in the northeastern United States. Participants generally spoke about Catholic identity in terms of its explicit or implicit nature. Specifically, explicit Catholic identity relating to campus ministry, faith formation of students, and community service were noted to be areas for improvement. The analysis showed that tensions concerning the school's Catholic identity were sidelined in the pursuit of academic excellence as measured by standardized tests, benchmarks, and college acceptance rates. We argue that embracing and taking seriously, rather than avoiding, the tensions concerning Catholic identity in a Catholic school might contribute to vital community dialogue, invigorating learning, and consequent spiritual and academic growth.

By ERIC
This book provides a reflective process through which teachers may consider their distinctness as educators in a Catholic school. After an overview that discusses the ideal Catholic school teacher, the book focuses on five themes: Teacher as Community Builder; Teacher as Committed to Lifelong Spiritual Growth; Teacher as Committed to Lifelong Professional Development; Teacher as Committed to Students' Spiritual Formation; and Teacher as Committed to Students' Human Development. Each section includes a teacher self-inventory, questions for reflection, and further resources. The conclusion presents an assessment of effectiveness as a Catholic school educator and questions for reflection. Suggestions for administrators using the book are presented. The two appendixes offer Percentage of Text in Church Documents on Education Devoted to Themes Descriptive of the Ideal Catholic School Teacher and Subthemes Descriptive of the Ideal Catholic School Teacher Extracted from Church Documents on Education. 46ERIC EJ994099: Catholic Identity: The Heart Of Catholic Education
By ERIC
The Catholic Higher Education Collaborative (CHEC) is committed to fostering effective partnerships that generate innovative responses to the critical current condition of Catholic schooling. Beginning in 2008, national CHEC conferences were organized by member institutions to energize the movement and begin a national conversation aimed at problem solving. Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles opened the conference series with the topic of immigration and the shifting demographics of the American Catholic church affecting Catholic schools. In October 2009, Loyola University Chicago sponsored the next CHEC conference on school leadership, followed by the 2010 conference on academic excellence sponsored jointly by Boston College and Fordham University. Fall 2011 marked the next CHEC conference, hosted by The Catholic University of America and jointly sponsored by St. John's University in New York. The theme, Catholic identity, was apropos to the national university created by American bishops and dedicated to the ecclesial mission of education. Catholic identity provides the raison d'etre for Catholic education. According to Church doctrine, the purpose of a Catholic school is to assist parents in their transmission of the faith--to help form an identity that is Catholic within the child. Attendees shared in sessions dedicated to a variety of scholarly, personal, policy, and leadership aspects of Catholic identity for educational institutions from preschool through university studies. The conference on Catholic identity made clear both the importance and the challenge to shape a faith community within an educational institution. The conversation, commentary, and experiences of the conference affirmed capabilities and commitment to meet the challenge.
