A simple, physically motivated, scaling hypothesis, which becomes exact in important limits, yields estimates for the ground-state energy of large, composed, systems in terms of the ground-state energy of its building blocks. The concept is illustrated for the electron liquid, and the Hubbard model. By means of this scaling argument the energy of the one-dimensional half-filled Hubbard model is estimated from that of a 2-site Hubbard dimer, obtaining quantitative agreement with the exact one-dimensional Bethe-Ansatz solution, and the energies of the two- and three-dimensional half-filled Hubbard models are estimated from the one-dimensional energy, recovering exact results for $U\to 0$ and $U\to \infty $ and coming close to Quantum Monte Carlo data for intermediate $U$.

The research utilizes neuroimaging and natural language processing (NLP) tools, to study emotions as constructed phenomena in single subjects. Our hypothesis is that the perception and experience of complex emotions is achieved by perception and combination of simpler emotional precursors - emotional building blocks. This research will propose and model such building blocks and their connection to fully formed emotions. We will then try and examine what are the dimensions of individual subjects’ neural emotional spaces. These will be compared between subjects, as well as to current psychological theories of emotion.

We propose a theory to explain the formation of spiral arms and of all types of outer rings in barred galaxies, extending and applying the technique used in celestial mechanics to compute transfer orbits. Thus, our theory is based on the chaotic orbital motion driven by the invariant manifolds associated to the periodic orbits around the hyperbolic equilibrium points. In particular, spiral arms and outer rings are related to the presence of heteroclinic or homoclinic orbits. Thus, R1 rings are associated to the presence of heteroclinic orbits, while R1R2 rings are associated to the presence of homoclinic orbits. Spiral arms and R2 rings, however, appear when there exist neither heteroclinic nor homoclinic orbits. We examine the parameter space of three realistic, yet simple, barred galaxy models and discuss the formation of the different morphologies according to the properties of the galaxy model. The different morphologies arise from differences in the dynamical parameters of the galaxy.

Most of the blocks can print without supports you might want to print them solid so that they won't break. With the onset of the big data era and significant advances in computational power, machine learning has emerged as the primary engine fueling progress in artificial intelligence. Applications now range from medical diagnostics and facial recognition payments to autonomous vehicles and intelligent recommendation systems, reflecting the deep integration of machine learning algorithms across diverse facets of society. Traditional algorithms including Support Vector Machines and Decision Trees laid the theoretical groundwork for the field, while recent innovation in deep learning and Transformer architectures has dramatically broadened its possibilities. This paper employs a hybrid research methodology of literature analysis and review to systematically trace the evolutionary development of foundational machine learning algorithms from classical to modern paradigms. By combining historical overview with comparative analysis, the study seeks to elucidate the core drivers guiding the progression of machine learning methodologies.

In media, women are seen as objects to be valued for their use by others. Women’s bodies or body parts are singled out and separated from them as people, causing them to be viewed primarily as physical objects of male sexual desire. This objectification seen everywhere becomes so engraved in our minds from such a young age, that most people are completely unaware of it happening. “Building Blocks” is a children’s toy. At first, this toy seems to be ordinary children’s building blocks, but upon closer look, one might realize that each block is a female body part. The body is segmented, just as women’s bodies are everywhere in advertisements and Tv. She has no head, hands, or feet, to demonstrate female’s loss of identity and ownership; the figure cannot stand up on its own. Her breasts, butt and vagina- the parts of a woman’s body most commonly sexualized- cannot quite fit anywhere. A child plays with construction toys to develop basic learning skills at young age. When playing with “Building Blocks,” children are unknowingly and unwillingly being taught to view a woman as an object for their own enjoyment, just as they are through media.

By combining three types of basic cells a circuit for recognizing any regular language can be constructed or 'programmed' automatically from the regular expression describing that language. Recognizers built in this way are efficient pipeline circuits that have constant response time and avoid broadcast. In addition, the paper proposes the use of a single, regular layout, called the PRA (programmable recognizer array), that can be 'personalized' to recognize the language specified by any regular expression. PRA's provide compact reconfigurable layouts for recognizer circuits, requiring only O(n log n) area for regular expressions of length n. (Author)

This article is from Advances in Cognitive Psychology , volume 9 . Abstract In the present review, social communication will be discussed in the context of social cognition, and cold and hot cognition. The review presents research on prosody, processing of faces, multimodal processing of voice and face, and the impact of emotion on constructing semantic meaning. Since the focus of this mini review is on brain processes involved in these cognitive functions, the bulk of evidence presented will be from event related potential (ERP) studies as this methodology offers the best temporal resolution of cognitive events under study. The argument is made that social communication is accomplished via fast acting sensory processes and later, top down processes. Future directions both in terms of methodology and research questions are also discussed.

We propose a minimal description of single field dark energy/modified gravity within the effective field theory formalism for cosmological perturbations, which encompasses most existing models. We start from a generic Lagrangian given as an arbitrary function of the lapse and of the extrinsic and intrinsic curvature tensors of the time hypersurfaces in unitary gauge, i.e. choosing as time slicing the uniform scalar field hypersurfaces. Focusing on linear perturbations, we identify seven Lagrangian operators that lead to equations of motion containing at most two (space or time) derivatives, the time-dependent coefficients of three of these operators being determined only by the background evolution. We then establish a dictionary that translates any existing or future model whose Lagrangian can be written in the above form into our parametrized framework. As an illustration, we show that Horndeski's-or generalized Galileon-theories can be described, up to linear order, by only six of the seven operators mentioned above. Finally, in order to make the link with observations, we provide the entire set of linear perturbation equations in Newtonian gauge, the effective Newton constant in the quasi-static approximation and the ratio of the two gravitational potentials, in terms of the time-dependent coefficients of our Lagrangian.

The document begins with a report containing the following: marketing program mission and vision statements; overview, conclusions, and recommendations of an assessment of marketing education needs in which recent graduates of the associate degree marketing program, employers of recent program graduates, and instructors currently teaching in the program participated in focus groups that examined the program's curriculum, instruction, delivery, and outcomes; overview of a program outcome study in which a group of 30 marketing program outcome statements was reviewed by technical college instructors and business and industry representatives, narrowed to a group of 15 outcome statements, and developed as competency-based curriculum units; summaries of the 15 outcomes along with core abilities, performance criteria, learning objectives, conditions, learning activities, and performance assessment guidelines; study recommendations and implementation strategies; and program outcomes. "SRA Real Math Building Blocks PreK" (also referred to as "Building Blocks for Math") is a supplemental mathematics curriculum designed to develop preschool children's early mathematical knowledge through various individual and small- and large-group activities. It uses "Building Blocks for Math PreK" software, manipulatives, and print material. "Building Blocks for Math" embeds mathematical learning in children's daily activities, ranging from designated math activities to circle and story time, with the goal of helping children relate their informal math knowledge to more formal mathematical concepts. Two studies of "Building Blocks for Math" met the What Works Clearinghouse (WWC) evidence standards. They included over 250 preschool children from New York State. This report focuses on immediate posttest findings to determine the effectiveness of the intervention. The WWC considers the extent of evidence for "Building Blocks for Math" to be small for mathematics achievement. No studies that met WWC evidence standards with or without reservations addressed oral language, print knowledge, phonological processing, early reading/writing, or cognition. We study the properties of building blocks (BBs, i.e. accreted satellites) and surviving satellites of present-day galaxies using the SAG semi-analytic model of galaxy formation in the context of a concordance Lambda Cold Dark Matter (LCDM) cosmology. We consider large numbers of DM halo merger trees spanning a wide range of masses (~1x10^10 - 2.14x10^15 Msun). We find higher metallicities for BBs with respect to surviving satellites, an effect produced by the same processes behind the build-up of the mass-metallicity relation. We prove that these metallicity differences arise from the higher peak height in the density fluctuation field occupied by BBs and central galaxies which have collapsed into a single object earlier than surviving satellites. BBs start to form stars earlier, during the peak of the merger activity in LCDM, and build-up half of their final stellar mass (measured at the moment of disruption) up to four times faster than surviving satellites. Surviving satellites keep increasing their stellar masses rather quiescently down to z~1. The difference between the metallicities of satellites, BBs and central galaxies depends on the host DM halo mass, in a way that can be used as a further test for the concordance cosmology.

When Earth was just a baby, meteors and asteroids rained down, delivering all sorts of chemicals to our developing planet. These small objects could have delivered the chemicals needed to spark life on Earth for the first time. The OSIRIS-REx mission will collect and return a sample from asteroid Bennu, a 4.5-billion-year-old fossil of the early solar system. By looking at pieces of Bennu in laboratories, scientists will be able to look at its composition and see whether some of the building blocks of life came from objects like Bennu.

A seven piece puzzle which assembles into three sizes of tetrahedron. The basic piece is made from five rhombic dodecahedra, and comes in two mirror image versions (orange and yellow in the photos). This piece is the "tetrahedron building block" (TBB). Easy: take one orange and one yellow TBB and build a small tetrahedron (order 3). Moderate: take two orange and two yellow TBB's and assemble a medium tetrahedron (order 4). Difficult(ish): take three orange and three yellow TBB's, plus the red piece and assemble a large tetrahedron (order 5). All these puzzles have a unique solution. The unusual shaped pieces take some getting used to. But after you play with them a while, the three challenges will probably not seem difficult. The base plate is optional but may help with learning how the pieces can pack. An "extreme" challenge, if you want to print out the extra pieces, is to take 12 yellow pieces and 12 orange pieces and build "the Great Pyramid" (a tetrahedron of order 8). This puzzle also has a unique solution, and is probably too difficult to solve by hand. Curiously, tetrahedra of orders 6 and 7 cannot be made from tetrahedron building blocks because the number of rhombic dodecahedra is not a multiple of 5. It is not known if any tetrahedron above order 8 can be formed exclusively from tetrahedron building blocks.

Its shameful as hell says the pro-single-payer Healthcare-NOW of the DNC Platform Committee's vote against Medicare for All with Benjamin Day, Executive Director of Healthcare-Now Benjamin Day, executive director of the pro-single-payer organization Healthcare-NOW!, says its a matter of life and death to rally behind a single-payer healthcare plan after the DNC Platform Committee overwhelmingly voted down an amendment that would have inserted support for Medicare for All into the Democratic platform, which is set to receive a final vote at the virtual Democratic convention next month. Many hundreds of delegates are speaking out now with clarity to insist that Medicare for All belongs in the Democratic Party platform, says Day "[t]hey are correct to never waver in this fight for healthcare as a human right. During the last few months, millions of people in the United States have lost their jobs. They should not lose their healthcare along with their livelihoods.

This article is from International Journal of Molecular Sciences , volume 14 . Abstract Solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs) have attracted increasing attention during recent years. This paper presents an overview about the use of calix[n]arenes and calix-resorcinarenes in the formulation of SLNs. Because of their specific inclusion capability both in the intraparticle spaces and in the host cavities as well as their capacity for functionalization, these colloidal nanostructures represent excellent tools for the encapsulation of different active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) in the area of drug targeting, cosmetic additives, contrast agents, etc. Various synthetic routes to the supramolecular structures will be given. These various routes lead to the formulation of the corresponding SLNs. Characterization, properties, toxicological considerations as well as numerous corresponding experimental studies and analytical methods will be also exposed and discussed.

Peptides are a grouping of 50 or fewer amino acids (more than 50 is a protein). Peptides are natural substances, though those covered in the show are variations on the naturally occurring versions. They can be beneficial in many ways, often amplifying the body's ability to heal itself. They discuss the history of the use of peptides in a medical environment, as well as the future of peptides becoming available commercially in the U.S., with over 7,000 in clinical development currently. Cancer research is one of the leading development areas for peptides (ALRN-6924 is one of the prominent ones studied). Antimicrobial research is also being done to potentially create new antibiotics. There are different methods of delivering peptides to the body. They are not very bioavailable orally and are prone to hydrolysis, so injection is the best for the majority of peptides. They explore some of the benefits of peptides over traditional medications, such as allergic reaction is limited with peptides, and neither the kidneys nor liver have to process them like traditional medications require. They also consider the potential side effects of using peptides. They warn against purchasing peptides from online companies, as many of them are produced overseas in bulk without any regulation, often not containing what they claim. The only safe way to get access to peptides is through a reputable doctor who practices integrative medicine, with access to compounding pharmacies like Tailor Made Compounding. This includes helping with neural inflammation, muscle improvement, improved immunity, improved collagen synthesis, increased bone density and accelerated recovery/healing. It is most often used clinically to treat gut and bowel issues and tendon and ligament repair. Thymosin beta-4 is beneficial for soft tissue injury by increasing blood flow to the area, encouraging healing. Thymosin alpha 1 is FDA approved (commercially available as ZADAXIN™ for treatment of viral hepatitis), encouraging increased immune response to some cancers, Lyme disease and sexually transmitted diseases. PT-141 has a benefit for treating some erectile dysfunction and female sexual dysfunction. Follistatin (actually a protein, not a peptide) has the potential to inhibit myostatin, which prevents muscle breakdown. Cerebrolysin is a combination of peptides with potential useful for brain repair in neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and strokes. Selank and Semax are Russian peptides that are nasally bioavailable that have been reported to help with anxiety. MIF-1, ACTH, Dihexa have limited research but have been considered to help with depression, bipolar disorder and PTSD. IGF1 has nerve regenerative capabilities. GDF11 may be beneficial in tissue repair, so useful in anti-aging, but with potential health drawbacks.
