Abstract Objective: The utilization of diagnostic imaging has substantially increased over the past decade in Europe and North America and continues to grow worldwide. The purpose of this study was to develop an economic evaluation of a syringeless power injector (PI) versus a dual-syringe PI for contrast enhanced computed tomography (CECT) in a hospital setting. Materials and methods: Patients (n=2379) were enrolled at the Legnano Hospital between November 2012 and January 2013. They had been referred to the hospital for a CECT analysis and were randomized into two groups. The first group was examined with a 256-MDCT (MultiDetector Computed Tomography) scanner using a syringeless power injector, while the other group was examined with a 64-MDCT scanner using a dual-syringe. Data on the operators’ time required in the patient analysis steps as well as on the quantity of consumable materials used were collected. The radiologic technologists’ satisfaction with the use of the PIs was rated on a 10-point scale. A budget impact analysis and sensitivity analysis were performed under the base-case scenario. Results: A total of 1,040 patients were examined using the syringeless system, and 1,339 with the dual-syringe system; the CECT examination quality was comparable for both PI systems. Equipment preparation time and releasing time per examination for syringeless PIs versus dual-syringe PIs were 100±30 versus 180±30 seconds and 90±30 and 140±20 seconds, respectively. On average, 10±3 mL of contrast media (CM) wastage per examination was observed with the dual-syringe PI and 0±1 mL with the syringeless PI. Technologists had higher satisfaction with the syringeless PI than with the dual-syringe system (8.8 versus 8.0). The syringeless PI allows a saving of about €6.18 per patient, both due to the lower cost of the devices and to the better performance of the syringeless system. The univariate sensitivity analysis carried out on the base-case results within the standard deviation range confirmed the saving generated by using the syringeless device, with saving values between €5.40 and €6.20 per patient. Conclusion: The syringeless PI was found to be more user-friendly and efficient, minimizing contrast wastage and providing similar contrast enhancement quality compared to the dual-syringe injector, with comparable CECT examination quality.

Photovoltaic PV and wind turbine as a renewable form of energy play an important role in the generation of electricity in the sector. So, its marketed to consumers. The main purpose of this project is the development of computer-aided models for purposes of studying the effects of various design changes on the parameters and performance characteristics of the modified Lundell class of alternators (MLA) as components of a solar dynamic power system supplying electric energy needs in the forthcoming space station. Key to this modeling effort is the computation of magnetic field distribution in MLAs. Since the nature of the magnetic field is three-dimensional, the first step in the investigation was to apply the finite element method to discretize volume, using the tetrahedron as the basic 3-D element. Details of the stator 3-D finite element grid are given. A preliminary look at the early stage of a 3-D rotor grid is presented.

We explore the tension between dual institutional logics (i.e., state logic versus market logic) in state-owned enterprises (SOEs) with different government ownership and government control, to explain why SOEs are more or less likely to engage in corporate social activities. We propose that the degree of separation between government ownership and control affects the trade-off in command-based resource allocation decisions and market-based resource allocation decisions among SOEs. Specifically, when the degree of separation between government ownership and government control is higher, SOEs’ are less likely to engage in social activities, thus reducing their corporate social performance. Moreover, such negative response to state power will be amplified if the manager of SOE has longer career horizon, and when the SOE is headquartered in better sub-national institutional environment with a higher level of marketization. We will test the hypotheses in the context of targeted poverty reduction in China, and mainly use the data on ownership structure, control patterns, poverty reduction investments of Chinese publicly listed SOEs from 2016 to 2021. Focusing on the hybrid forms of SOEs, this study aims to make contributions to the heterogeneity of SOEs in terms of government ownership and control from the perspective of dual institutional logics. We also expect to enrich prior works on SOEs’ social performance by examining how and to what extent heterogenous SOEs engage in corporate social activities accordingly. We list our hypotheses as following: H1: The degree of separation between government ownership and government control among SOEs is negatively associated with SOEs’ corporate social performance. The purpose of this study was to empirically test the posit that students who participated in a contextualized, mathematics-enhanced high school agricultural power and technology (APT) curriculum and aligned instructional approach would develop a deeper and more sustained understanding of selected mathematics concepts than those students who participated in the traditional curriculum and instruction. This study included teachers and students from 38 high schools in Oklahoma (18 experimental classrooms; 20 control classrooms). Students were enrolled in an APT course in the spring of 2004. The experimental design used was a posttest only control group; unit of analysis was the classroom. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to test the study's null hypotheses. The math-enhanced curriculum and aligned instructional approach did not significantly affect (p greater than 0.05) a student's mathematics ability as measured by a traditional test of student math knowledge or by an "authentic" assessment of student ability to use math to solve workplace problems. Thus, the study's null hypotheses were not rejected. However, because of incomplete implementation of the treatment as reported by some experimental teachers coupled with an intervention time frame of only one semester, a one-year replication of the study is recommended. Introduction Today, maximizing the efficiency of fuels and increasing the output power of diesel engines is considered inevitable due to the increasing need for energy resources, the reduction of fossil fuel resources, the need to maintain the environment, reduce air pollution, and limit the electricity supply and fuel supply. In the large cities of Iran, the problem of vehicle pollution is one of the main problems. The lack of proper fuel, soot filters, and absence of requirement for a technical inspection of diesel vehicles have led to an increase in mortality and the growth of lung cancer due to pollution. All of studies indicate that fossil fuels, despite the low cost of production, will increase the cost of both living and environment. A solution for this crisis is to reduce the sources of pollutant-producing sources from the source of these pollutants. In the internal combustion engines, the compression ratio and alternative fuels are two important factors affecting engine performance and exhaust emission. Materials and Methods In this research, a one-dimensional computational fluid dynamics solution with GT-Power software was used to simulate a six-cylinder diesel engine to study the performance and exhaust emissions with different compression ratios and alternative fuels. The compression ratio was chosen to be 15:1 to 19:1 with an interval at unity. Alternative fuels such as (as base diesel), methanol, ethanol, diesel and ethanol, biodiesel and decane were selected. To modeling engine, first, all parts of the engine were introduced as a real six-cylinder engine, and then the required data were entered according to the actual engine conditions at the atmospheric pressure of one atmosphere. Before this investigation was carried out, a validation model for evaluation was done by experimental and simulation data. The validation results showed that software model error is acceptable and the model has a good capability of fitting and predicting. Results and Discussion The engine performance was evaluated in terms of engine power, engine torque, and specific fuel consumption at different engine compression ratio and fuel. The results showed that with increasing the compression ratio, brake power and brake torque increased. Among the fuels used in this engine, the maximum brake power and brake torque in the compression ratio of 19 with the decane fuel were 3.86% higher than that the base fuel and the lowest value was awarded in the compression ratio of 15, with methanol fuel and it was equal with 56.04%. The results indicated that by increasing compression ratio, the brake specific fuel consumption was reduced due to more power than the fuel consumed in the engine. A fuel with lower heating value should be injected more mass to the engine. This will increase the brake specific fuel consumption. In this research, the decane fuel with a compression ratio of 19 with a reduction of 3.72% had the lowest brake specific fuel consumption among other fuels. The CO emission from the engine largely depended on the fuel's properties, the availability of oxygen, the fuel mix with air, temperature, and turbulence inside the combustion chamber. The results highlighted that by increasing compression ratio, CO emission increased and CO emission in biodiesel fuel, with a compression ratio of 15, was decreased by 82.37% compared to the base. CO 2 emissions are not too harmful to humans, but they increase the potential for ozone depletion and global warming. With increasing compression ratio, CO 2 and HC emissions increased for all fuels, CO 2 emissions have risen up the base. The fuel heating mechanism, combustion temperature, oxygen content, and gas fuel availability are the most important factors in the formation of NOx. With increasing the compression ratio, the amount of NOX increases, which is due to the high temperature in the cylinder at a higher compression ratio. The viscosity and density of fuels have an effect on NOX emission, and because of the larger droplets of the fuel, it released NOX. The highest NOx emissions from biodiesel fuel are due to the high oxygen content of this fuel and the lowest NOx emissions from decane fuel, due to the low density of the fuel compared to other fuels.   Conclusion The results of this study showed that the decane fuel with a compression ratio of 19 in total had the best functional and pollutant characteristics among the six fuel used in this study. Therefore, this fuel can be the best alternative for diesel fuel.

This paper provides a comprehensive overview of the electricity supply situation in Nigeria, focusing specifically on enhancing the performance of industrial gas turbines, GE GT13E2 (Afam Power Plant owned by FIPL) in Port Harcourt. The study encompasses two primary aspects. Firstly, it involves an examination of the nominal operating conditions of a combined cycle system and explores their dynamic performance through advanced simulations. Secondly, the research introduces a supplementary burner into the combined system and conducts a comparative analysis, considering factors such as system efficiency and power output. The power plant configurations are simulated using Gasturb14. The analysis is carried out by establishing the maximum attainable temperature in the Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG), which determines the number of stages of supplementary firing that can be implemented. The results presented in this paper unveil the substantial potential for power generation with the addition of supplementary burners, indicating a remarkable increase in power output, yielding approximately 187.444 MW. However, this significant boost in power generation comes with an associated trade-off, wherein the overall system efficiency experiences a reduction. From an economic perspective, the additional power generated by the afterburner translates directly into increased revenue from electricity sales. Considering the average residential electricity rate  in the U.S. as   of February 2023 , the calculated additional revenue from the afterburner amounted to approximately $25,641.58 per hour.

This report provides an analysis of the orbital performance of the three DMSP 5D3 spacecraft presently on orbit. The mission of the DMSP spacecraft is to collect and disseminate global high-resolution visible and thermal cloud cover imagery for DoD forces and the intelligence community. The present two-satellite constellation (early morning and mid morning) has an inclination of 98.7 with a 458 nmi sun synchronous polar orbit. The orbit period is I0l min with eclipses lasting up to 35 min. The satellites complete 14.2 revolutions around the Earth each day. The report presents data from the satellite telemetry that will allow determination of the spacecraft power demand for the range of sun angles and spacecraft configurations for the three operational 5D3 spacecraft. This is used in determining spacecraft energy balance margins under various operating conditions.

In April 2002, Jeffrey Fouts (2002) presented a longitudinal study of student performance in Washington using Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) results from 1998 to 2001. Although constrained by the lack of individual student identification numbers at that time, he concluded that success on the WASL in the 4th grade was a strong predictor of achieving success in later grades. The opposite was also true; starting at the lowest levels of the WASL in the 4th grade strongly predicted less success in meeting the standards in later testing. According to Fouts, "A 4th grade Level 4 reading student was 28 times more likely to have met the reading standard three years later than was a 4th grade Level 1 reading student" (p. 20). Results were similar for math testing. These dramatic findings highlighted the need for assisting students early in their academic experience. However, according to Fouts the current education system did not "appear to be serving these students adequately" (p. 21). This study is an attempt to replicate and extend Fouts' 2002 study using the most recent data. Whereas Fouts used data from 4th and 7th grades to predict 10th grade achievement, the current study follows student progress from 4th through 10th grades. The following questions encompass Fouts' questions, but extend the findings through the more recent data: (1) How did students who took the 2001 7th grade reading and math WASL perform three years later on the 2004 10th grade WASL?; (2) How did students in different levels on the WASL in 1998 4th grade perform in 2001 7th and 2004 10th grades?; (3) What percentage of students scoring at various levels on the 4th grade WASL in 1998 met the WASL standard in the 10th grade in 2004?; and (4) Are there student factors that are related to student performance over time? A total of 8,463 students were included in the final database. The students in this study represented 33 districts and 318 schools around the state. The findings presented in this report extend Fouts (2002) study and are consistent with his report. The examination into student achievement over time revealed that past achievement was the best predictor of future achievement. One variable that is often cited as being influential in student achievement is ethnicity. The current study found that the likelihood of moving out of Level 1 reading was the greatest for Asian/Pacific Islander students and the least for Black/African American students. For math, Asian/Pacific Islander and White students were more likely to move out of Level 1 than Hispanic and Black/African American students. Hierarchical regressions revealed that mothers' education, amount of time per week doing homework, and three interaction terms predicted 16% of the variance in 10th grade reading achievement. Taken together, mothers' education, amount of time per week doing homework, and two interaction terms accounted for 23% of the variance in math achievement. The authors' study affirmed Fouts' (2002) conclusion that early success on the WASL was a strong predictor of later success. Although there were some differences between his predicted 10th grade scores and their actual scores, the dynamics of achievement progression over the grades was the same. Their last finding implies that there are some student practices that may be potentially helpful in partially mitigating the lack of early success. In support of ASD/AEGT this Agency subjected a candidate prototype polyurethane container for the F-16 Emergency Power Unit (EPU) Hydrazine Fuel Tank, to a series of performance tests in accordance with Federal Test Method Standard 101 B. The objective of these tests was to determine if the prototype container would protect the EPU fuel tank from mechanical damage and maintain a vapor seal, i.e. a minimum 1.0 psig pressure during all phases of testing. The container was subjected to compression loading, free fall drop tests (ambient and low temperature), pneumatic pressure, and leak tests in accordance with Methods 5016, 5007, and 5009, respectively. These tests indicated the EPU fuel tank container will maintain a positive seal under 1.0 psig pressure and remain intact throughout environmental and transportation rough handling tests. The container did not meet the 25 G shock protection requirement. (Author)

This study used Washington state school district identification numbers to follow the progress of 14,860 fourth graders (in 1998) and 12,827 seventh graders (in 1998) for 3 years. The inauguration of the Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) made it possible to track individual student academic performance and examine the consequences of early academic success. Through the use of creative flow analysis the study demonstrated the 3-year WASL results for students who initially scored at each of the four levels of the test. This resulted in the dramatic finding that only 3.1% of students who scored at Level 1 reading in grade 4 were able to meet the standard (Level 3 or 4) by seventh grade. This trend is confirmed for reading and mathematics for both the 4th to 7th grade cohorts and the 7th to 10th grade cohorts. The study also examined the impact of student background factors other than individual ability that might partially explain these findings. Ethnicity appears to be one such influence, although differences among ethnic categories may be at least partially due to differences in family income and other variables. Analysis also suggest that for every 100 students who score at level 1 in reading in grade 4 and proceed through the current educational system, approximately 34% will meet the reading standard at 10th grade. The report also contains recommendations that might guide remediation efforts, including a call to examine the nature of learning expected between fourth and seventh grades compared to that between the upper grades. At Sandia National Laboratories, we have developed a unique capacitor technology. This technology is based upon impregnation of plastic film capacitor rolls with per- fluorocarbon insulating liquids. At Los Alamos National Laboratory, we have installed and activated a 300-kW capacitor modulator. At the 3rd IEEE International Pulse Power Conference in June 1981, a program between the Los Alamos National Laboratory and the Sandia National Laboratories to evaluate this technology in repetitive discharge pulse power service was described in a paper by Bickford, Mauldin, and Sarjeant. Experimental data is beginning to flow from this program.

A performance analysis has been made to determine whether boundary-layer control by suction might reduce the minimum take-off and landing distances of a four-place or five-place airplane or a liaison type of airplane below those obtainable with conventional high-lift devices. The airplane was assumed to have a cruise duration of 5 hours at 60-percent power and to be operating from airstrips having a ground friction coefficient of 0.2 or a combined ground and braking coefficient of 0.4. The payload was fixed at 1500 pounds, the wing span was varied from 25 to 100 feet, the aspect ratio was varied from 5 to 15, and the power was varied from 300 to 1300 horsepower. Maximum lift coefficients of 5.0 and 2.8 were assumed for the airplanes with and without boundary-layer-control --equipment weight was included. The effects of the boundary-layer control on total take-off distance, total power-off landing distance, landing and take-off ground run, stalling speed, sinking speed, and gliding speed were determined.

These modules supply the 5-MA magnet current needed for the compressional heating of compact toroid plasmoids. To date, 54 modules have been built and successfully tested at their full design rating: 100-kA peak output current at 10-kV charge, T(sub 1/4) = 60 (mu)S (25-kJ module), or 110 (mu)S (50-kJ module), crowbar L/R /= 1 ms. Modules are compact, cost about $5,000 each, and though designed for 25 or 50 kJ, they can be easily modified for other pulsed-power applications. Energy is stored in 25-kJ capacitors. Start and crowbar switching is performed with a pair of water-cooled, size-D ignitrons. As an alternative to an ignitron, crowbar switching by solid-state rectifiers has been successfully demonstrated. Current is conducted between components and to the load by parallel-plate transmission lines and by a parallel array of commercially-available coaxial cable.

As part of the development of the fluidic power supply of the XM445 fuze, wind tunnel tests of different configurations of the power supply were conducted at the Naval Surface Weapons Center in November 1979. Power supply performance and pressure and temperature measurements within the fuze were recorded at Mach 1.5 and Mach 5 for a range of pressures. Success or failure of any given configuration was based on degree of sensitivity at low pressure and ability to operate at high pressure and temperature. Measurements of temperature and pressure provided new information on conditions in the fuze.

The data were analyzed on the basis of the arithmetic mean, standard deviation, Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient and stepwise regression. The students stated that their self-efficacy beliefs were developed mostly by verbal persuasion and performance accomplishments. They also noted that psychological states and vicarious experiences develop their self-efficacy beliefs at a lower level. It is the factor "performance accomplishments" that is correlated with the students' self-efficacy beliefs and predicts them in the strongest way. Apart from performance accomplishments, the factors "vicarious experiences" and "verbal persuasion" predict the students' self-efficacy beliefs for learning and performance.
