I talk I gave to the ICT-KM group of the CGIAR at the annual meeting of the CGIAR in Maputo, December 2008

The adoption and use of ICT to enhance and facilitate Knowledge Management (KM) has brought to focus the urgent need to come out with new methods, tools and techniques in the development of KM systems frameworks, knowledge processes and knowledge technologies to promote effective management of knowledge for improved service deliveries in higher education. To succeed in KM, higher education institutions must endeavor to effectively link KM initiatives and processes with their ever-changing needs to advance their goals. Addressing these challenges calls for a new conceptual framework and expanded research agenda to ensure success in the utilization of ICT in KM. Using the synergies from Stankosky's (2005) KM pillar for enterprise learning together with the task/technology fit theory (Goodhue and Thompson, 1995) to form the basis for defining our approach, this paper proposes a conceptual framework for using ICT to enhance KM in higher education. In addition, the paper identifies several research issues to bridge the gap that currently exists between the requirements of theory building and testing to address the different emerging challenges in using ICT to enhance KM in higher education.

School management are responsible for demonstrating accountability, transparency and delegating financial responsibility. The head of school is also responsible for income, expenditure, book-keeping, and other accounting works. This study examined the knowledge and impact of heads of schools administrative training on school financial management control in public secondary schools in Mbeya rural district. The primary data were collected using questionnaire and interview guide from 66 respondets. The sample was chosen from each selected secondary school teachers using simple random sampling technique and head of school using purposive sampling techniques. The data were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS ver. 20) for quantitative data and content analysis for qualitative data. The study results revealed that, heads of schools have knowledge about procedures of getting school funds as planned. During making school budget staff members are involved to make decision as the way of disseminating knowledge and skills on the subject matter. The study recommend that school administration should promote teamwork with all essential stakeholders particularly making decisions about various school budgetary issues. Government should ensure that heads of schools mainly in most public secondary schools undergo effective training about proper management of school financial resources for the sake of general school development.

The European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training (CEDEFOP) supports the aims of European Community (EC) activities and initiatives to promote lifelong learning and access to training. To promote competencies and lifelong learning, CEDEFOP has monitored development of lifelong learning skills, clarified main differences in the approaches to key qualifications in the European Union, and worked on recognizing, validating, and certifying nonformal learning. To monitor developments in vocational education and training in EC Member States, CEDEFOP has provided descriptions of systems and arrangements and analyzed trends. To serve European mobility and exchanges, CEDEFOP has improved understanding of different qualification systems and information about mobility. To promote exchange and dialogue among its partners, CEDEFOP has promoted exchange and dialogue through study visits program and Agora Thessaloniki. To support the EC effectively as a source of reference, CEDEFOP needs to provide four key elements: basic information on vocational education and training systems and arrangements in the Member States and links with the labor market; support for comparative research and overview and analysis of research and initiatives on key issues; support to meet partners' needs; and effective links among policy makers, social partners, researchers, and practitioners to promote the transfer of innovation and best practice. An important feature of the customer relationship management process is the abundance of customer knowledge. On the other hand, most product innovations do not come from within the manufacturer, but from the end consumer of the product. Therefore, customer knowledge can be used in customer relationship management processes for new product development, so that the customer serves as partner in the value creation process to innovate collaboratively with the company. This article first introduces the concepts of knowledge-based customer relationship management and how to use customer knowledge in new product development is discussed. Research has shown that companies can use innovation methods based on market segmentation, the use of purchasing profiles, partnerships with customers, the formation of creative associations, and the use of customer feedback and complaints to create a new product. Then, an example of successful companies in applying customer knowledge to develop a new product is described, finally, a framework for using customer knowledge in new product development will be introduced. This article helps to provide a better insight into the position of the customer in the value creation process and also the successful implementation of customer relationship management beyond maintaining a long-term relationship with the customer to those involved.

Tiki: Easy setup of wiki-based knowledge management system This talk demonstrates how to build up a simple but powerful knowledge management system starting from a freshly installed Tiki by Jean-Marc Libs At: FOSDEM 2019 https://video.fosdem.org/2019/UD2.119/collab_tiki_wiki_knowledge_base.webm I will demonstrate an easy and fast way of configuring Tiki Wiki CMS Groupware for the purpose of having a central repository for a knowledge base. I will also explain how to manage permissions for various use cases, how to separate different topics, how to access stored knowledge. This presentation will start with a minimal Tiki site and show how to build structures of pages and file repositories with a knowledge base in mind. This will rely on a concrete real-life working example of a site for collaboration between a freelancer/company and their various separate customers with different projects. I will show how to configure permissions for: * a publicly visible and editable knowledge base; * separate knowledge bases which are restricted to groups of users and invisible to others; * intermediate scenarios with groups of editors and groups of read-only viewers. I will show the basics of how to make the knowledge accessible, searchable, navigable and allow comments from people who can only view it. I will provide hints about more powerful approaches using Tiki's inbuilt user-configurable database feature. Background:  Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a progressive condition characterized by impaired kidney function or structural damage that persists for more than three months. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of a structured teaching programme on knowledge and practice regarding self-care management among chronic renal failure (CRF) patients undergoing hemodialysis at PES General Hospital, Kuppam. Andhra Pradesh. Methods:  A quantitative, pre-experimental one-group pre-test post-test design was used. A total of 40 CRF patients were selected using a convenience sampling technique. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire and checklist. Results:  Demographically, 57.5% of participants were aged between 46–65 years, 85% were male, and 75% lived in rural areas. In the pre-test,57.5%hadmoderateknowledge,and70%demonstrated adequate practice. Following the intervention, 90% had adequate knowledge and 97.5% had adequate practice. The mean knowledge score improved from 17.03 (SD=5.916) in the pre-test to 24.55 (SD=4.018) in the post-test. Statistical analysis showed a significant improvement in both knowledge and practice scores post-intervention. Conclusion:  The findings suggest that structured teaching programmes are effective in enhancing self-care management among CRF patients on hemodialysis. Introduction: Knowledge management is used in the organization for guidance on the process of creating, disseminating and applying knowledge for organizational purposes. Understanding the weaknesses of/and barriers to the success factors in the flow of knowledge in the organization can affect the knowledge management process. Therefore, the present study deals with the identifying and prioritizing the barriers to knowledge flow in university libraries based on the maturity of knowledge management model taken from the American Productivity and Quality Center. Methodology: The present study is a survey-analytical study. The statistical population included 184 managers of central libraries of some universities, all included as the research census. Data were collected through a researcher-made questionnaire. Findings: The barriers to knowledge flow are ranked in priority order: Management factors with a mean rate of 5.72 in the first rank, the source of knowledge with a mean rate of 5.7 in the second rank, organizational factors with a mean rate of 4.67 in the third rank, time factor with a mean rate of 4.37 in the fourth rank, communication channel with a mean rate of .22 in the fifth rank, individual factors with a mean rate of 4.21 in the sixth rank, technical factors with a mean rate of 3.92 in the seventh rank, and knowledge characteristics with a mean rate of 3.72 in the eighth rank. In terms of ranking the barriers of the dimensions of the flow of knowledge with the level of maturity of knowledge management the barriers are the level of innovation, the level of optimization, the level of standardization, the level of development and the level of beginning, respectively. Conclusion: Academic libraries face the barriers and bottlenecks in the main steps of the knowledge management cycle. Although these obstacles exist in the entire dimensions of the flow of knowledge, the barriers are more tangible in the management dimension. Therefore, attention to effective leadership indicators, the right styles of management, organizational support, and attention to knowledge workers are necessary to eliminate these barriers.

The article is devoted to the study of the impact of intellectual resources in the form of knowledge bases on the sustainable development of organizations. In today's world, where Knowledge is a key resource for success, the integration of Knowledge Management becomes an important component to ensure organizational competitiveness. The study emphasizes that successful implementation of artificial intelligence and knowledge bases requires not only technological solutions but also cultural changes within organizations, particularly in the areas of learning culture and collaboration. The authors of the article investigate the processes of acquisition, combination, and protection of Knowledge as key components of organizational sustainable development. They point out that the ability to acquire and combine Knowledge allows organizations to realize their potential in value creation. Knowledge Management is presented as a strategic component aimed at increasing productivity and competitiveness. The article discusses higher-order capabilities, such as adaptability, absorptive capacity, and innovation capacity, which affect the ability of organizations to respond to changes in the external environment. The algorithm for Knowledge utilization in organizations describes a comprehensive intellectual platform for managing and optimizing processes in the dynamic organizational environment. The Knowledge Management system includes managed and managing components, where the managed system reflects current parameters and information, while the managing system provides data storage, learning, and ontological knowledge base. The ontological knowledge base includes a set of concepts, semantic relationships, interpretation function, and axioms. Knowledge base updates occur depending on changes in time and the addition of new concepts, relationships, and axioms. Generalized ER-diagrams illustrate the structure and interaction of the learning module with the results used to update the Knowledge base. The algorithm allows you to analyze the state of the system and make optimal decisions based on the accumulated Knowledge.

Safety management is associated with the policies, objectives, procedures, methods, roles and functions that aim at controlling hazard and risk in socio-technical systems. Companies that have implemented effective OSH Management system have reported benefit from increase operational efficiency, reduction in insurance cost and improve in workers retention and satisfaction. Many accidents that occur at construction site are due inadequate adherence of workers to work procedures. The awareness and perception of workers toward safety, health and their working environment are important aspect to enhance the building construction to the better condition to the workers . Workers play an important role in accomplishment of the building construction. All these supporting evidence reflects on the needs to study building construction workers knowledge of safety management system. The study is a criteria – based study, in which 24 construction companies were selected for the study The respondent samples used in the study were drawn from the total population of permanent construction workers in the 24 construction companies selected. The total numbers of permanent construction workers in the 24 construction companies are 750 while 254 were selected for the study. The research questionnaires were administered on 254 permanent construction workers within the 24 construction companies in Abuja. The analysis of the questionnaires survey data was undertaken using the statistical package for social science (SPSS) version 20. A reliability test was conducted on the data in order to control error within the data. The Cronbach’s Alpha of the two variable data are .853 and .863 respectively and make the data reliable. This study empirically investigated the influence of knowledge management on performance of quoted money deposit banks in Anambra State, Nigeria. A survey research design was adopted in the study, with closed ended questionnaire designed using 5 Likert scale as the research instrument. Using purposive and convenience sampling technique, a sample of 84 senior staff were drawn from population of 14 money deposit banks in Anambra State. Data obtained were analyzed using descriptive statistics tables, figures, percentages and ratios and hypotheses tested using regression, T test and F test statistics. The findings show that all the components of knowledge management KM Knowledge acquisition KA , Knowledge Conversion KC and Knowledge application KAP in aggregate are statistically significantly related to organizational performance measured in non financial terms. The study concluded that when knowledge is managed effectively in an organization, it will lead to favorable outcomes that enhance performance. The study recommended embedment of knowledge management philosophy in Nigerian money deposit banking sector. Physics and management are disciplines deeply implicated in the domination of the physical and social world. This book is the product of ethnographic fieldwork that studied physics and management programs as points of entry that give access to larger processes that constitute and reproduce disciplines and center around the incorporation of students into discipline-specific temporal and spatial organizations of knowledge. Chapter 1, "Knowledge in Space and Time," attempts to dismantle a network of assumptions about knowledge and learning. Chapter 2, "Producing Material Space-Time and Constructing Students in Physics," examines how the physics program zoned students' activities into a set of material and social spaces and compressed their time to foster the development of exclusive within- program social ties. Chapter 3, "Connecting Students To Practice: Mobilization in Physics," develops an account of problem-solving as a way of integrating students into the discipline's way of organizing the world through textual representations. Chapter 4, "Constructing and Isolating Academic Space in Management," shows how the management program fragmented academic space-time and organized it into distinct short-term units. Chapter 5, "Mobilizing Bodies for Management," shows how non-academic portions of the program created lines of connection between the program and the business world by mobilizing students in distinctive systems of material practice. This thesis examines the student thesis research process at Naval Postgraduate School (NPS), Monterey, CA. Research in the academic environment by Leavitt (1965), Davenport (1993), and Nissen (1993), makes a case for the integration of information technology (IT) with the process it supports. This thesis examines how the NPS population discovers and shares knowledge in the thesis research process. Additionally, it analyzes how a knowledge management (KM) tool such as a knowledge portal might improve the thesis research process. This thesis explores the culture of knowledge sharing and knowledge hoarding in the academic environment of NPS. This thesis also investigates the relevancy of student theses to Navy needs and how this relevancy might he enhanced through a knowledge portal (KP). The findings indicate that the student thesis process at NPS can he innovated through a KM tool such as a KP. Development and implementation of the KP must be executed using an iterative, integrated approach through gradual addition of resources, functionality, and user groups. Weaknesses identified in the current thesis process require reengineering efforts. Finally, the differences in the academic and military cultures at NPS must be minimized for successful innovation to occur

This paper addresses human resources utilization at the university environment. We address the design issues of e-learning courses that can capture the teacher knowledge. The underlying objective is that e-learning is a key knowledge and major resources for many universities. Therefore, the design of e-learning should be an important part of the university knowledge management process. Teachers' knowledge in any important topic or field should be managed in a way that the university can benefit from it in case of teacher leaving or retired. Hence, intellectual personal knowledge management will be explored through the development of e-learning systems. Some concepts from the Artificial Intelligence field can be used in developing such systems. The potential for utilizing human knowledge in the university environment will optimize the resources and can be of cost effective and quality assurance factors and provide the university with a sustainable competitive advantage. Assuring the proper knowledge management within the university environment is a more complex issue. This is due to the diverse of topics in one hand and the behavior of the student and the lecturers on the other hand. Effective implementation and success requires a lot of efforts that will guarantee the utilization of the intellectual capital within the university environment. (Contains 2 figures.)

This research for: 1) to study the current situation and problem in KM, 2) to develop the KM Model, and 3) to evaluate the finding usage of the KM Model for developing the Internal Quality Assurance of Educational Opportunity Expansion Schools. There were 3 Phases of research implementation. Phase 1: the current situation and problem in KM, was studied. Phase 2: the KM Model, was constructed, investigated, revised. Phase 3: the findings of usage in the KM Model for developing the Internal Quality Assurance of Educational Opportunity Expansion Schools. The research instruments for data collection were: the Questionnaire, and the Interview Form. The statistic using for data analysis included the Mean, Standard Deviation, and Percentage. The research findings found that: 1) The current situation and problem, found that were 7 Steps of implementation in KM including: the goal setting, the role determination, the knowledge construction, the shared learning, the knowledge selection, and the conclusions in body of knowledge, and the problem of KM, in overall, was in "High" level. 2) The KM Model, found that were 7 Steps of implementation in KM including: the goal setting, the role determination, the knowledge construction, the shared learning, the knowledge selection, and the conclusions in body of knowledge, and the delimitation of 8 aspects of Internal Quality Assurance. The findings of investigation in the KM Model, by all of 7 experts, found that the Mean Value was in "High" level. 3) The findings of evaluation in usage of KM Model, found that the Mean Value of testing after implementation of KM (posttest), was higher than before implementation of KM (pretest) at .01 significant level. The administrators and teachers had satisfaction in of KM Model, after the usage, found that it was in "High" level.

The objective of research is to describe the knowledge and attitude of basic sanitation management community in Kupang City. This type of research is a survey research using quantitative approach. Data were collected by using the instrument in the form of test knowledge of basic sanitation management and attitude questionnaire. The data was then processed and analyzed using descriptive statistics. The Result of the research was sanitation management knowledge base is in low category whereas attitude clean and healthy life, about 61.5% of Kupang not leave a comment. The knowledge is still low is illustrated by the habit of living of the community, particularly in watersheds where there are many people using the river as a final disposal of feces them also as a public bathing and washing.

Exploiting information resources, particularly diverse research & development databases, presents opportunities to enhance technology management. Many such databases [e.g., Science Citation Index, Business Index] offer useful index fields to help you access documents. However, these indexes sometimes fail to address your requirements effectively. We present an approach that allows you to extract and categorize desired information from particular datasets that lack effective indexing for your purposes. We illustrate for a U.S. Patents dataset on lightweight automotive materials.

This paper describes Knowledge Management for Distributed-Tracking (KMDT), which is an ongoing research and development project to explore methods to improve military functions in the battle space, such as command, control, and decision support. It features a hypothetical use-case scenario that shows how knowledge-management technologies, such as ontologies and intelligent agents, can be used to improve battle-space awareness and the decision-making process in command centers with respect to distributed tracking and threat identification of platforms. The KMDT sensor ontology is based partly on concepts described in the MIL-STD-2525B and STANAG 4420 specifications, which define symbology to represent level-one data-fusion information, such as the classification of platforms and targets in the battle space. The paper includes a discussion of ontology-integration examples of this with this symbology as it relates to fusion and tracking.

The Technical and Management Information System (TMIS) must employ on enlightened approach to its object structure, but basic issues in conceptual structuring remain to be resolved. Sirius outlines the necessary agenda and reports on progress toward solutions.

This report describes: (1) the process of building, using and reusing the JFACC ontology for the domain of air campaign planning, and (2) an application called Strategy Development Assistant (SDA) that uses that ontology. The JFACC ontology served as a basis for knowledge sharing among several applications in the domain of air campaign planning. We describe how the ontology was built, how several applications made use of it as well as issues and lessons learned. The Strategy Development Assistant is a knowledge-based, mixed-initiative planning system to support air campaign planning. It supports military planners to decompose high-level objectives into move specific sub-objectives. The choice of decomposition is template driven based don a theory of air campaign planning provided by a domain expert. Since the SDA keeps the human in the loop, it can assist military planners while still giving them full control over each step in a very complex decision making process.

Using knowledge management and knowledge flow theories, personnel involved in force protection can better construct a trustworthy threat assessment of a port region. By ensuring that intelligence agents, regional experts, and force protection officers are linked in a knowledge flow system, our fleet's decision makers will be equipped with the proper tools to better prepare for port visits. A new organization, the Multi-Threat Alert Center, will be a vital organization that is charged with doing most of the knowledge construction in this system. Therefore its construction and implementation into the AT/FP organization is paramount to maintaining a successful system. Its ultimate knowledge product will be used by commands conducting port visits as the main assessment of the current threat conditions. A key conducting port visits as the main assessment of the current threat conditions. A key component to ensuring that due diligence is maintained while using pre-fixed force protection plans is to ensure that knowledge is treated as a dynamic system instead of a static object. By analyzing the MTAC knowledge flow systems with current theories, the planners and organizers of force protection can ensure that a functioning and efficient system is in place.

The Army Science Board was tasked to conduct a study on Knowledge Based Management and Information Reliability to examine innovative ways of addressing technology issues that have the potential to weigh down future warfighters with massive amounts of data. Specific subtaskings include: (1) Define Knowledge Management and Information Assurance technologies for the Objective Force; (2) Define the strategy for conquering information glut through fundamental soldier/team enabling technologies and processes from conceptual to geo-spatial; (3) Examine technology and operational concepts to mitigate asymmetric threats; (4) Provide a 2008-2012 roadmap to enable small, autonomous processing that facilitates knowledge production, sharing and decision making. The ASB central recommendation is to incorporate and grow KM in the IBCTs. The first objective for this report was to perform a comprehensive research of industry models currently being used for similar purposes, in order to provide the Center with ideas of what is being done in area by private companies and government agencies. The second objective was to evaluate the use of taxonomies or ontologies to describe and catalog the areas of expertise at GSFC. The creation of a knowledge taxonomy is necessary for information extraction in order for The Expert Seeker to adequately search and find experts in a particular area of expertise. The requirements to develop a taxonomy are: provide minimal descriptive text; have the appropriate level of abstration; facilitate browsing; ease of use and speed of data entry are critical for success; customized to the organization and its culture; extent of knowledge areas; expandable, so new skills could be develop; could be complemented with free text fields to allow users the option to describe their knowledge in detail.

Cyber-Physical Systems in general, and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) in particular use heterogeneous data sources combined with problem solving expertise in order to make critical decisions that may lead to some form of actions e.g., driver notifications, change of traffic light signals and braking to prevent an accident. Currently, a major part of the decision process is done by human domain experts, which is time-consuming, tedious and error-prone. Additionally, due to the intrinsic nature of knowledge possession this decision process cannot be easily replicated or reused. Therefore, there is a need for automating the reasoning processes by providing computational systems a formal representation of the domain knowledge and a set of methods to process that knowledge. In this paper, we propose a knowledge model that can be used to express both declarative knowledge about the systems' components, their relations and their current state, as well as procedural knowledge representing possible system behavior. In addition, we introduce a framework for knowledge management and automated reasoning (KMARF). The idea behind KMARF is to automatically select an appropriate problem solver based on formalized reasoning expertise in the knowledge base, and convert a problem definition to the corresponding format. This approach automates reasoning, thus reducing operational costs, and enables reusability of knowledge and methods across different domains. We illustrate the approach on a transportation planning use case.

Survey respondents were asked to rate their utilization, capability and level of importance for 32 activities that form the basis of either the MPTA or civilian Nursing Administration programs, and that might be required in a particular Nurse Corps management position. The study defines which activities are of greatest and least importance to Nurse Corps managers and where these activities may be obtained. Decades of reform have been largely ineffective at improving the efficiency of the Department of Defense's (DoD) Acquisition System. Such inefficiency is, in part, due to complex processes and stovepipe activities that result in duplication of effort, lack of re-use, and limited collaboration on related development efforts. This research applies Knowledge Management (KM) concepts and methodologies to the DoD acquisition enterprise to increase Program Self-awareness. This research supports the implementation of reform initiatives such as Capability Portfolio Management and Open Systems Architecture, which share the common objectives of reducing duplication of effort and promoting collaboration and re-use of components. The DoD Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) Program will be used as a test case to apply KM tools to identify duplication and/or gaps in the features of select MDA technologies. This paper also may provide the foundation for future development of the Program Self-Awareness concept and KM tools to support decision making and to improve the effectiveness of the DoD Acquisition System.

Provides an overview of knowledge management and benchmarking, including the benefits and methods of benchmarking (e.g., competitive, cooperative, collaborative, and internal benchmarking). Arthur Andersen's KMAT (Knowledge Management Assessment Tool) is described. The KMAT is a collaborative benchmarking tool, designed to help organizations make an initial high-level assessment of how well they manage knowledge; the KMAT can direct organizations toward areas that require more attention, as well as identify knowledge management practices in which they excel. Three types of comparison reports can be generated using the KMAT: external benchmarking compares an organization with the overall (multi-industry) KMAT database or a smaller customized group; internal benchmarking compares an individual or division within an organization with a group of their peers; and average benchmarking compares the average of a group or individuals within an organization with the overall KMAT database or a smaller customized group. Each of the five sections of the tool (leadership, culture, technology, measurement, and process) encompasses a set of knowledge management practices. (Contains 11 references.) (MES)

This report documents subject matter experts' (SMEs) assessments of the knowledge base of the Avenue of Approach (AA) Generation Tool, a module of the AirLand Battle Management (ALBM) Advanced Technology Demonstration (ATD) decision aid prototype, version 1.2. This is one of a series of assessments of the ALBM ATD prototype conducted during its development. The AA Generation Tool will generate an AA given an initial location, objective, and force template. It uses terrain data obtained from the Tactical Decision Aids terrain data base in generating the AA. In general, SMEs thought that the concept for automatic AA generation was good, but the current implementation was of marginal use. Specific recommendations for improvement are provided. Knowledge Management for Distributed-Tracking (KMDT) is an ongoing research and development project to improve military-information functions in the battle space, such as command, control, and decision support. It features a scenario that shows how knowledge-management technologies, such as ontologies and intelligent agents can improve battlespace awareness and the decision-making process in command centers with respect to distributed tracking and threat identification of platforms. Cross lines of bearings using heterogeneous sensor data and other information from multiple platforms in the battle space can reduce the uncertainty in platform detection, localization, classification and identification. The paper describes metrics for ontology development and agent performance.

The last 10 years have produced a revolution in the complexity and realism of human behavior models (HBMs). However, the cost of developing realistic HBMs continues to increase as much of the detailed and complex knowledge must be manually encoded to produce realistic behavior. The focus of this project is on reducing the cost of acquiring, validating, and maintaining the knowledge used in realistic HBMs. The author's approach is to develop tools that allow subject matter experts (SMEs) to specify behavior using abstract scenarios represented as diagrams. The SME can graphically describe the conditions under which actions and goals should be pursued, together with the associated reasons for those decisions. The system, guided by the expert's choices, analyzes and automatically generalizes from the example scenarios, alerting the SME to inconsistencies and missing knowledge. The system incrementally generates an executable HBM whose behavior the SME can view and modify during development. By moving the language of discourse from symbolic programming languages to annotated diagrams, the SMEs specify knowledge directly without requiring the intervention of a knowledge engineer to translate between the representations.

This paper serves as an exploration into some of the ways in which organizations can promote, capture, share, and manage the valuable knowledge of their employees. The problem is that employees typically do not share valuable information, skills, or expertise with other employees or with the entire organization. The author uses research as well as her graduate studies in the field of Human Resource Development (HRD) and professional career experiences as an instructor and training and development consultant to make a correlation between the informal workplace learning experiences that exist in the workplace and the need to promote, capture, and support them so they can be shared throughout the organization. This process, referred to as knowledge sharing, is the exchange of information, skills, or expertise among employees of an organization that forms a valuable intangible asset and is dependent upon an organization culture that includes knowledge sharing, especially the sharing of the knowledge and skills that are acquired through informal workplace learning; performance support to promote informal workplace learning; and knowledge management to transform valuable informal workplace learning into knowledge that is promoted, captured, and shared throughout the organization.

More entrepreneurs, more innovation and growth are necessary and this could be realized particularly by supporting young people who would like to be entrepreneurs but the existing education and training programmes are insufficient. Mentoring is in comparison with coaching/counselling a special form of active supporting of entrepreneurship competence, a "natural support" helping also young people with special needs to believe in themselves and boost her confidence. The mentoring approach helps young people giving them practical entrepreneurial support and SMEs to improve the transfer and use of strategic knowledge. Knowledge is the key for all organizations and the success of many of them depends on the effective deployment and continual enhancement of their knowledge base so as to be innovative and to remain/become competitive. The paper first describes the areas of research, mentoring, entrepreneurship education and KM and then used methods and results. Examples for projects supporting the improvement of young entrepreneurship education and KM also by using mentoring are given.
