Young adults with disabilities face multiple challenges in obtaining successful post-school outcomes. In a National Longitudinal Transition Study-2 report, Wagner, Newman, Cameto, Garza, and Levine (2005) found that for former students with disabilities, 70% had engaged in paid employment since leaving high school, though only 40% were employed at the time of interview--clearly unfavorable to the 63% employment rate of their peers without disabilities, and similar data have been reported for former students with disabilities in Kentucky. In this brief article, the authors first briefly discuss what the literature says about predictors of successful post-school transition for young adults with disabilities. Secondly, they analyze their latest KY post-school data to determine the factors most associated with successful post-school outcomes for former students in Kentucky. Finally, they provide evidence-based "Transition Tips" for youth with disabilities, their families, teachers, and school administrators.

When the author thinks back to all the wilderness educational expeditions he has led, one thing sticks out in his mind: While he knows these were amazing experiences for the students (primarily university undergraduates), could he have done more to help them transition into the experience and out again afterwards? The author has continued to contemplate transference during three expeditions to Haida Gwaii (the Queen Charlotte Islands), one on the Stikine River and another in the Antarctic. All of these subsequent expeditions were run as field courses at the University of Northern British Columbia. In this article, the author tries to draw out theory as well as examples and lessons from practice that he feels are potentially valuable in re-shaping the way educators/instructors/mentors conceptualize transition and transference in their programs in the future. Kinetic energy driven phase transitions in Bose superfluids occur at low values of the repulsion when the values of the next-to-nearest and next-to-next-to-nearest hopping term attain certain critical values, resulting in alterations in the wave vector of the condensate. We map out the space of possible phases allowed by particular forms of the single-particle energy dispersion in the superfluid state, noting the appearance of a new phase, and examine in more detail the effects of additional repulsive terms on the form of the condensate wavefunction. We also examine the effect of these additional hopping terms on the formation of inhomogeneities in the condensate.
