Sometimes movies don't get released. Sometimes they get canceled. They all, however, get showed to us. This week we decide what another set of unreleased films are all about.

CAPS Media's Digital Storytelling goes to Ventura High as part of their ASSETs Program. The students created a film about Edgar Allan Poe's poem, The Raven

After his homeland is held frozen captive under the icy grip of his enemy Nevar, Raven travels to an  Eastern land  with sixteen of his young warriors in the hopes of finding the Secret Temple. Within the temple lies the elixir that will restore his homeland to its former glory and release his land from Nevar's spell. In the East, he finds an ally in Satyarani, who will guide Raven and his warriors to the temple, but only if they prove their worthiness by completing fourteen perilous tasks; only the strongest warrior will be able to enter the temple and retrieve the elixir from within. Unfortunately, Nevar and his demons have followed Raven and his warriors, determined to stop them from completing their quest at any cost.

The Raven Progressive Matrices (RPM) were administered to groups of approximately 15 to 25 (for a total of 174) special class, educable mentally retarded Negro or white students, 5 1/2 to 10 1/2 years of age from low socioeconomic status (SES) backgrounds to determine whether individual or group training with learning potential procedure was more effective in improving RPM performance. A training booklet containing test items such as pattern completion and analogy problems was used by each S in two training sessions. Training criteria included strategies to assure child comprehension of task requirements, initial demonstration of task requirements, task requirement concretization in motoric performances (child drew item completing pattern before selecting alternative solutions), and verbal response of child on method of arriving at a solution. Results indicated that both the individually trained and group trained groups demonstrated higher mean increase than the control group; that pretest score, age, SES, race, and training condition were significantly related to posttest scores; that older students, males, or white children received higher posttest scores than younger students, females, or Negroes; that SES was not a significant predictor of performance following training; and that middle class students in special classes had physical involvements not clinically evident in low SES students. Prior thesis work has demonstrated the possibility of extending the flight time of military Small Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (SUAV) by 200% with the implementation of thin-film photovoltaic (TFPV) cells. In this thesis, we investigate how thin-film photovoltaic cells, made out of Copper Indium Gallium Di-Selenide (CIGS) semiconductor materials and mounted on the wings of the Raven RQ-11B SUAV, provide sufficient electrical power to fully operate the UAV for extended periods of time. This research focuses on extending the flight time of the Raven RQ-11B and on minimizing its sole dependence on lithium-ion batteries. This research will also demonstrate that increasing the size of the wings, adding a DC to DC power converter, and using a Maximum Power Point Tracker (MPPT) will enable the Raven RQ-11B to keep its lithium-ion battery charging continuously, while operating under varying daylight conditions. Additionally, this research will investigate the advantage of enabling systems on the ground to self-charge. This will enable tactical units to operate in any field, to include areas where power sources are unavailable.

The Moral Equivalent of War, the last public utterance of William James, is significant as expressing the opinions of a practical psychologist on a question of growing popular interest. For the past fifteen years the movement for promoting international peace has been enlisting the support of organizations and individuals the world over. That this is a question on which much may be said for the opposition, James, though a pacificist, admits with his usual fair-mindedness, pointing out that militarism is the sole nourisher of certain human virtues that the world cannot let die, and that until the peace party devises some substitute, some moral equivalent, for the disciplinary value of war, their utopian goal is neither desirable nor possible. His own solution is advanced not as a practical measure, but merely as an illustration to show that the world is full of opportunities for the peaceful development and continuation of the martial qualities of human life. <BR><BR> This essay was written for general dissemination as a publication of the American Association for International Conciliation, February, 1910.
