Fission chambers were first made fifty years ago for neutron detection. At the moment, the French Atomic Energy Commission \textsf{(CEA-Cadarache)} is developing a sub-miniature fission chamber technology with a diameter of 1.5 mm working in the current mode (Bign). To be able to measure intense fluxes, it is necessary to adjust the chamber geometry and the gas pressure before testing it under real neutron flux. In the present paper, we describe a theoretical method to foresee the current-voltage characteristics (sensitivity and saturation plateau) of a fission chamber whose geometrical features are given, taking into account the neutron flux to be measured (spectrum and intensity). The proposed theoretical model describes electric field distortion resulting from charge collection effect. A computer code has been developed on this model basis. Its application to 3 kinds of fission chambers indicates excellent agreement between theoretical model and measured characteristics.

Calculations in the case of odd nuclei have been performed merely within a so-called equal-filling approximation (EFA) as opposed to an approach taking explicitly into account the time reversal breaking properties at the mean field level- and for only one single-particle configuration. Purpose: We study the dependence of the fission barriers on various relevant configurations (e.g. to evaluate the so-called specialization energy). Besides, we want to assess the relevance as a func- tion of the deformation of the EFA approach which has been already found out at ground state deformation. Methods: Calculations within the Hartree-Fock plus BCS with self-consistent particle blocking have been performed using the SkM* Skyrme effective interaction in the particle-hole channel and a seniority force in the particle-particle channel. Axial symmetry has been imposed throughout the whole fission path while the intrinsic parity symmetry has been allowed to be broken in the outer fission barrier region. Results: Potential energy curves have been determined for six different configurations in U-235 and four in Pu-239. Inner and outer fission barriers have been calculated along with some spectroscopic properties in the fission isomeric well. These results have been compared with available data. The influence of time-reversal breaking mean fields on the solutions has been investigated. Conclusions: A sizeable configuration dependence of the fission barrier (width and height) has been demonstrated. A reasonable agreement with available systematic evaluations of fission barrier heights has been found. The EFA approach has been validated at the large elongations occurring at the outer barrier region.

A field trial involving 24 Canadian infantry soldiers in Fort Benning, Georgia was undertaken in conjunction with the Soldier Information Requirements Technology Demonstrator (SIREQ-TD). This trial involved 3 sections conducting at least 8 tactical assault missions over the course of several days. Teams were required to manoeuvre on assigned routes through a heavily wooded area, to dispatch an enemy sniper encountered enroute, and to overtake two enemies occupying a defensive position at the final destination. After each mission was completed, trust within the team was measured using the Trust in Teams Scale (Adams & Bruyn, 2003). During each mission, all communications were logged using a radio system. All communications were analyzed into discrete transmissions, and coded by type (transfer, request for information, acknowledgement), function (related to location, status), and referent (friendly or enemy) according to a classification system developed by Entin et al. (1993). In addition, the content of communications was also analysed for trust relevant events. The first iteration of the team trust scale seemed to perform relatively well. More importantly, the team trust scale did seem to capture team trust as it evolved over time, and there were some predictable matches between events that occurred during tactical assault missions and measures of team and leader trust. Several conceptual and pragmatic challenges of conducting future trust field research are noted.

Over the past two decades, preparation of LIS professionals to conduct credible research has been both scrutinized and encouraged by a variety of scholars. The conclusion of these researchers has been that there is a paucity of courses and that opportunities for students to participate in authentic field research are few. There is a resulting need for improvements to the research methods education of LIS graduate students in general.

There is a resulting need for improvements to the research methods education of LIS graduate students in general.

Field trips can provide an opportunity to take the student to the world, as an alternative to presenting the world to the student in the classroom. Such trips can create a forum for exploring controversial and distressing topics by exposing the students to first-hand experience, rather than second-hand accounts: witnessing the effects of blind obedience in the remains of a concentration camp whilst hearing the story of the survivors is a very different experience to the detached presentation of information in a classroom. This article outlines the benefits of using field trips to teach sensitive topics through accounts of four excursions taken by students in the School of Psychology at Bangor University. These case studies are presented alongside a list of tips to support those planning a future venture and evidence of the impact on students and staff.

We are conducting a state-of-the-field review of disability representation in social and personality psychology research. Our two primary questions are: Review Questions 1. Within social and personality psychology, how frequently is disability reported in original research that is published in the field’s influential journals which publish original research reports (i.e., Journal of Personality and Social Psychology [JPSP], Social Psychological and Personality Science [SPPS], and Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin [PSPB])? 2. How is disability treated in any article where it is reported?
