2ERIC ED441788: Multiple Understandings: The Use Of Different Sources Of Feedback To Support Self-Study Of Teaching In Information Technology.

By

This paper describes how multiple sources of information were used by two educators to develop new understandings about their roles as teachers of information technology research to a multinational class. The information was gathered from students who provided feedback via an asynchronous Web-based chat space, e-mail, written assignments, and informal discussions. The teachers also provided each other feedback via e-mail and formal discussion at weekly meetings. One of the educators had considerable experience in pedagogy and curriculum design but little experience in using the World Wide Web to support learning in tertiary settings. The second educator had little experience with pedagogy and curriculum design but considerable research and practical experience in using the Web to support learning in tertiary settings. The goal was to combine the two educators' skills in order to improve the design, implementation, and evaluation of a new postgraduate subject delivered by a mixture of face-to-face and Web-supported instruction. However, the educators had another more important purpose, and this was to use the multiple sources of information to gain insights into the effectiveness and appropriateness of their teaching practice and to use this information to improve and modify their teaching. 3The Quasiclassical Limit Of The Symmetry Constraint Of The KP Hierarchy And The Dispersionless KP Hierarchy With Self-consistent Sources

By

For the first time we show that the quasiclassical limit of the symmetry constraint of the KP hierarchy leads to the generalized Zakharov reduction of the dispersionless KP (dKP) hierarchy which has been proved to be result of symmetry constraint of the dKP hierarchy recently. By either regarding the constrained dKP hierarchy as its stationary case or taking the dispersionless limit of the KP hierarchy with self-consistent sources directly, we construct a new integrable dispersionless hierarchy, i.e., the dKP hierarchy with self-consistent sources and find its associated conservation equations (or equations of Hamilton-Jacobi type). Some solutions of the dKP equation with self-consistent sources are also obtained by hodograph transformations.

4Negaton And Positon Solutions Of The Soliton Equation With Self-consistent Sources

By

The KdV equation with self-consistent sources (KdVES) is used as a model to illustrate the method. A generalized binary Darboux transformation (GBDT) with an arbitrary time-dependent function for the KdVES as well as the formula for $N$-times repeated GBDT are presented. This GBDT provides non-auto-B\"{a}cklund transformation between two KdV equations with different degrees of sources and enable us to construct more general solutions with $N$ arbitrary $t$-dependent functions. By taking the special $t$-function, we obtain multisoliton, multipositon, multinegaton, multisoliton-positon, multinegaton-positon and multisoliton-negaton solutions of KdVES. Some properties of these solutions are discussed.

5Self-Forces On Electric And Magnetic Linear Sources In The Space-Time Of A Cosmic String

By

In this paper we calculate the magnetic and electric self-forces, induced by the conical structure of a cosmic string space-time, on a long straight wire which presents either a constant current or a linear charge density. We also show how these self-forces are related by a Lorentz tranformation and, in this way, explain what two different inertial observers detect in their respective frames.

6ERIC EJ882732: The Reliability And Validity Of The Mathematics Self-Efficacy Informative Sources Scale

By

This study focused on the convergent and discriminate validity of the Mathematics Self- Efficacy Informative Sources Scale for high school students. A total number of 692 high school students participated in the study. Both explanatory and confirmatory factor analyses were conducted for the content of the scale. Whether the Mathematics Self-efficacy Informative Sources showed any differences in terms of personal variables such as gender and class level was also examined as part of discriminate validity. According to the results of the factor analyses, the four-factor model of math-inform was supported. According to the distinguished validity results, it would be stated that class level variables were not effective in explaining the variables informative resources. The results were discussed in light of literature and some suggestions were given for further studies.

7On The (Non)-Integrability Of KdV Hierarchy With Self-consistent Sources

By

Non-holonomic deformations of integrable equations of the KdV hierarchy are studied by using the expansions over the so-called "squared solutions" (squared eigenfunctions). Such deformations are equivalent to perturbed models with external (self-consistent) sources. In this regard, the KdV6 equation is viewed as a special perturbation of KdV equation. Applying expansions over the symplectic basis of squared eigenfunctions, the integrability properties of the KdV hierarchy with generic self-consistent sources are analyzed. This allows one to formulate a set of conditions on the perturbation terms that preserve the integrability. The perturbation corrections to the scattering data and to the corresponding action-angle variables are studied. The analysis shows that although many nontrivial solutions of KdV equations with generic self-consistent sources can be obtained by the Inverse Scattering Transform (IST), there are solutions that, in principle, can not be obtained via IST. Examples are considered showing the complete integrability of KdV6 with perturbations that preserve the eigenvalues time-independent. In another type of examples the soliton solutions of the perturbed equations are presented where the perturbed eigenvalue depends explicitly on time. Such equations, however in general, are not completely integrable.

8An Online Replication Study Investigating The Role Of Self-Regulatory Ego-Depletion In Online Learning With Multiple Sources

By

Purpose: We will investigate the hypothesis that an ego-depletion treatment has significant effects on the quantity and quality of online learning, as well as learning performance, as compared to a control task. Participants: 80 undergraduate students. Procedures (methods): Participants will participate in a Zoom video conference with a research assistant, be randomly assigned to an ego-depletion or control condition, take assessments, and learn online while thinking aloud before taking a posttest. In the ego-depletion condition, participants will engage in an ego depletion task before learning, and in the control condition participants will engage in a parallel non-depleting task.

9On The Effects Of Self- And Cross-phase Modulation On Photon Purity For Four-wave Mixing Photon-pair Sources

By

We consider the effect of self-phase modulation and cross-phase modulation on the joint spectral amplitude of photon pairs generated by spontaneous four-wave mixing. In particular, the purity of a heralded photon from a pair is considered, in the context of schemes that aim to maximise the purity and minimise correlation in the joint spectral amplitude using birefringent phase-matching and short pump pulses. We find that non-linear phase modulation effects will be detrimental, and will limit the quantum interference visibility that can be achieved at a given generation rate. An approximate expression for the joint spectral amplitude with phase modulation is found by considering the group velocity walk-off between each photon and the pump, but neglecting the group-velocity dispersion at each wavelength. The group-velocity dispersion can also be included with a numerical calculation, and it is shown that it only has a small effect on the purity for the realistic parameters considered.

10The Evolution Of The Self-lensing Binary KOI-3278: Evidence Of Extra Energy Sources During CE Evolution

By

Post-common-envelope binaries (PCEBs) have been frequently used to observationally constrain models of close-compact-binary evolution, in particular common-envelope (CE) evolution. However, recent surveys have detected PCEBs consisting of a white dwarf (WD) exclusively with an M dwarf companion. Thus, we have been essentially blind with respect to PCEBs with more massive companions. Recently, the second PCEB consisting of a WD and a G-type companion, the spectacularly self-lensing binary KOI-3278, has been identified. This system is different from typical PCEBs not only because of the G-type companion, but also because of its long orbital period. Here we investigate whether the existence of KOI-3278 provides new observational constraints on theories of CE evolution. We reconstruct its evolutionary history and predict its future using BSE, clarifying the proper use of the binding energy parameter in this code. We find that a small amount of recombination energy, or any other source of extra energy, is required to reconstruct the evolutionary history of KOI-3278. Using BSE we derive progenitor system parameters of M1,i = 2.450 Msun, M2,i = 1.034 Msun, and Porb,i ~ 1300 d. We also find that in ~9 Gyr the system will go through a second CE phase leaving behind a double WD, consisting of a C/O WD and a He WD with masses of 0.636 Msun and 0.332 Msun, respectively. After IK Peg, KOI-3278 is the second PCEB that clearly requires an extra source of energy, beyond that of orbital energy, to contribute to the CE ejection. Both systems are special in that they have long orbital periods and massive secondaries. This may also indicate that the CE efficiency increases with secondary mass.

11Clues On The Missing Sources Of Reionization From Self-consistent Modeling Of Milky Way And Dwarf Galaxy Globular Clusters

By

Globular clusters are unique tracers of ancient star formation. We determine the formation efficiencies of globular clusters across cosmic time by modeling the formation and dynamical evolution of the globular cluster population of a Milky Way type galaxy in hierarchical cosmology, using the merger tree from the Via Lactea II simulation. All of the models are constrained to reproduce the observed specific frequency and initial mass function of globular clusters in isolated dwarfs. Globular cluster orbits are then computed in a time varying gravitational potential after they are either accreted from a satellite halo or formed in situ, within the Milky Way halo. We find that the Galactocentric distances and metallicity distribution of globular clusters are very sensitive to the formation efficiencies of globular clusters as a function of redshift and halo mass. Our most accurate models reveal two distinct peaks in the globular cluster formation efficiency at z~2 and z~7-12 and prefer a formation efficiency that is mildly increasing with decreasing halo mass, the opposite of what expected for feedback-regulated star formation. This model accurately reproduces the positions, velocities, mass function, metallicity distribution, and age distribution of globular clusters in the Milky Way and predicts that ~ 40% formed in situ, within the Milky Way halo, while the other ~ 60% were accreted from about 20 satellite dwarf galaxies with Vc > 30 km/s, and about 29% or all globular clusters formed at redshifts z > 7. These results further strengthen the notion that globular cluster formation was an important mode of star formation in high-redshift galaxies and likely played a significant role in the reionization of the intergalactic medium

Before 2019, neither SARS-CoV-2 nor its genetic sequences had ever been identified. Retrospective investigations identified human cases with onset of symptoms in December 2019. While some of the earliest known cases had a link to a wholesale food market in Wuhan, China, some did not. But eventually, it spread to all nations of the world, and shutdown economies, social lives, education, and other sectors. This research studied the effects of COVID-19 on adult education in Ibarapa Central Local Government Area of Oyo State, Nigeria. It made recommendations for sustainable adult education in the circumstances of COVID-19 and similar pandemics in the community. It is descriptive and drew data and information from primary and secondary sources. Through a self-structured questionnaire titled "Coronavirus, New Normal and Impacts on Adult Learning in Ibarapa Central Local Government Area of Oyo State, Nigeria," the community provided insight into its impact generally and on education particularly. They also made suggestions as panacea for sustainable adult learning in the circumstances of COVID-19 and similar pandemics. Records of some international and local agencies and organizations were perused. There were no records of COVID-19 cases in the study area. But the halo-effect was a great threat that devastated adult educators and learners. The community believed in and adhered to science and complemented it with traditional formulations. The community requires massive infrastructures to strengthen course delivery and administration of adult learning at all levels and in the circumstances of COVID-19 and similar pandemics. 14Multi-source Self-calibration: Unveiling The MicroJy Population Of Compact Radio Sources

By

Context. Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) data are extremely sensitive to the phase stability of the VLBI array. This is especially important when we reach {\mu}Jy r.m.s. sensitivities. Calibration using standard phase referencing techniques is often used to improve the phase stability of VLBI data but the results are often not optimal. This is evident in blank fields that do not have in-beam calibrators. Aims. We present a calibration algorithm termed Multi-Source Self-Calibration (MSSC) which can be used after standard phase referencing on wide-field VLBI observations. This is tested on a 1.6 GHz wide-field VLBI data set of the Hubble Deep Field-North and the Hubble Flanking Fields. Methods. MSSC uses multiple target sources detected in the field via standard phase referencing techniques and modifies the visibili- ties so that each data set approximates to a point source. These are combined to increase the signal to noise and permit self-calibration. In principle, this should allow residual phase changes caused by the troposphere and ionosphere to be corrected. By means of faceting, the technique can also be used for direction dependent calibration. Results. Phase corrections, derived using MSSC, were applied to a wide-field VLBI data set of the HDF-N comprising of 699 phase centres. MSSC was found to perform considerably better than standard phase referencing and single source self-calibration. All detected sources exhibited dramatic improvements in dynamic range. Using MSSC, one source reached the detection threshold taking the total detected sources to twenty. 60% of these sources can now be imaged with uniform weighting compared to just 45% with standard phase referencing. The Parseltongue code which implements MSSC has been released and made publicly available to the astronomical community (https://github.com/jradcliffe5/multi_self_cal).

15Investigating The Sources Of Teacher Intercultural Self-efficacy: A Latent Three-level Study Using TALIS 2018

By

In the present work, we seek to illuminate differences between teachers in their intercultural self-efficacy beliefs by (1) examining how these differences can be attributed to differences between individuals, schools, and countries, and (2) investigating specific predictor variables on these levels and potential moderators.

16ERIC ED222935: Student Self-Concept Modification In Communication Courses: An Exploration Of The Sources Of Conflicting Findings.

By

A study was conducted to test four hypotheses concerning modification of student self-concept in communication courses: (1) different kinds of training affect student self-concept in different ways, (2) scale bias affects measurement of student self-concept, (3) male and female self-concepts change differently, and (4) course grade affects student self-concept. Four different instruments were administered among subjects drawn from communication, freshman English, psychology, and biology courses. Of the four sections of each course sampled, two sections responded to two scales--one measuring general self-concept and the other measuring self-concept as a communicator. The remaining two sections responded to two different instruments measuring the same variables. Instruments were administered during the first and last two weeks of the semester. The results indicated an increase of scores over the semester for communication and English subjects and a decrease in scores for psychology and biology subjects, supporting the first hypothesis. The results showed that the instruments measuring general self-concept were not highly related to the instruments measuring the dimension self-concept of communication ability, supporting the second hypothesis. The results did not support either the third or fourth hypotheses. (HTH)

17Synchrotron Self-Comptonized Emission Of Low Energy Cosmic Ray Electrons In The Universe: I) Individual Sources

By

Most of the Universe's populations of low energy cosmic ray electrons in the energy range of 1-100 MeV still manage to elude from detection by our instruments, since their synchrotron emission is at too low frequencies. We investigate a mechanism which can lead to observable emission of such electron populations: synchrotron-self Comptonization (SSC). The inverse Compton (IC) scattering can shift an otherwise unobservable low-frequency 10 kHz-10 MHz photons into observable radio, infrared (IR) or even more energetic wave-bands. The resulting emission should be polarized. We also consider IC scattering of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) and the cosmic radio background (CRB). Electron spectral aging due to synchrotron, IC and adiabatic losses or gains influences the resulting spectrum. The predicted radiation spectrum is a strong function of the history of the source, of the low energy spectrum of relativistic electrons, and of redshift. It has typically two maxima, and a decrement in between at CMB frequencies. Detection will give a sensitive probe of the environment of radio galaxies. We demonstrate that the fossil remnants of powerful radio galaxies are promising detection candidates, especially when they are embedded in a dense intra-cluster medium (ICM). GHz peaked sources (GPS) have very low SSC luminosities, which may, however, extend into the X-ray or even the gamma ray regime. Clusters of galaxies with relativistic electron populations may be another detectable sources. Fossil radio plasma released by our own Galaxy could be revealed by its large angular scale SSC flux. We discuss the expected detectability of these sources with new and upcoming instruments as LOFAR, GMRT, EVLA, ATA, ALMA, PLANCK, and HERSCHEL.

18ERIC EJ1069660: Exploring The Sources Of Turkish Pre-Service Chemistry Teachers' Chemistry Self-Efficacy Beliefs

By

This study aimed to examine the underlying sources in developing chemistry self-efficacy beliefs of Turkish pre-service chemistry teachers. For this purpose, the College Chemistry Selfefficacy Scale (CCSS) was administered to 20 pre-service chemistry teachers. Then, phenomenological approach was employed and semi-structured interviews were conducted with five pre-service teachers selected based on their scores on the CCSS to identify the underlying sources. The emerging meanings and self-reported sources of participants' chemistry self-efficacy beliefs were analysed according to Bandura's sources of self-efficacy. Results indicated that mastery experiences were the major source of self-efficacy beliefs, supporting the tenets of social cognitive theory. Physiological arousal and vicarious experience were also influential but they were not as frequently reported as mastery experiences.

By

Seventy preschoolers, first, and third graders (average ages of 4 1/2, 6 1/2 and 8 1/2 years, respectively) participated in interviews which used stories and pictures to assess their perceptions of the sources of self-knowledge (self-observation, social feedback, and social comparison). Assessments were made of level of role-taking and salience, comprehension, and ranking of importance of each source. Results indicated that role-taking level, salience (recall), and comprehension of each source increased with age. At all grade levels social feedback was the first source of self-knowledge recalled. No grade differences occurred for rankings of each source; children cited self-observation as most important most frequently, followed by feedback from others and social comparison. (Author/MP)

21ERIC EJ1000903: Predictive Power Of The Sources Of Primary School Students' Self-Efficacy Beliefs On Their Self-Efficacy Beliefs For Learning And Performance

By

The purpose of this study is to reveal the extent to which the sources of 6th- 8th grade students' self-efficacy beliefs predict their self-efficacy beliefs for learning and performance. The study is correlational and was conducted on a total of 1049 students during the fall term of the educational year 2010-2011. The data of the study were collected through "The Scale of Determining the Sources of Self-Efficacy" and "The Scale of Self-Efficacy for Learning and Performance". The data were analyzed on the basis of the arithmetic mean, standard deviation, Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient and stepwise regression. The students stated that their self-efficacy beliefs were developed mostly by verbal persuasion and performance accomplishments. They also noted that psychological states and vicarious experiences develop their self-efficacy beliefs at a lower level. It is the factor "performance accomplishments" that is correlated with the students' self-efficacy beliefs and predicts them in the strongest way. Apart from performance accomplishments, the factors "vicarious experiences" and "verbal persuasion" predict the students' self-efficacy beliefs for learning and performance.

24ANALYTICAL MODELLING AND SIMULATION OF THE SELF-LIMITATION PROCESS DURING THE CHEMICAL ETCHING OF THE BORON-DOPED SILICON LAYERS FROM BN SOLID SOURCES FOR MICROMECHANICAL APPLICATIONS

By

An analytical model of the boron diffusion in silicon from the solid boron nitride (BN) sources is presented and is applied to simulate the chemical etching rate and the etching time for the achievement of the silicon micromechanical elements within the bulk micromachining technology. It is shown that the diffusion profile obtained under such conditions is a consequence of a diffusion mechanism by electrically charged vacancies within the high concentration region, where the diffusion coefficient is proportional with the diffusion concentration, and by neutral vacancies in the “tail" (intrinsic) region, where the diffusion coefficient does not depends on concentration. Analytical relations were deduced to express the boron diffusion profile in the highdoping region and in the tail (intrinsic) region. Such relations permitted to express in an analytical way the chemical etching rate and the etching time during the chemical etching process used within the bulk micromachining technology to obtain micromechanical elements, particularly silicon membranes, under well controlled technological conditions.

26Sources Of Evolution Of The Japan Air Self-Defense Force's Strategy

By

The Japan Air Self-Defense Force's (JASDF) activities, training, and weapons after the first decade of this century seem to deviate from the exclusively defense-oriented policy. This thesis investigates what is driving the evolution of JASDF's strategy behind this behavior and what is the most influential driver of that evolving strategy. This thesis first examines the JASDF's strategic changes in terms of ends, ways, and means, and assesses these changes through the concepts of defensive defense and offensive defense to illuminate the JASDF's strategy. Then, this thesis analyzes four possible drivers of the JASDF's strategic evolution: the People's Liberation Army's (PLA) air power, the North Korean threat, the conservative swing of Japanese domestic politics, and the offensive nature of the air strategy. This thesis argues that the JASDF's strategy has evolved from the defensive defense strategy to the offensive defense strategy after the early 2000s. In addition, even though the evolution of the JASDF's strategy is a combined result of the four independent variables, the strongest driver is the modernization of the PLA's air power. Therefore, the improvement of the relationship between Japan and China is the most important factor in curtailing an arms race in Northeast Asia.

28Are People Really Worried About The Health Impacts Of 5G Mobile Technologies? Concerns For The Self, Society, And Children Compared To Other RF-EMF Sources.

By

A considerable body of research has been conducted over the past three decades concerning public exposure to radiofrequency electromagnetic fields (RF-EMF) from a variety of sources and related possible effects on human health. The relevance of this research has grown alongside increasing market penetration and use of mobile phones globally. Continuing evolution of mobile technology and its use/application by the public has most recently resulted in the widespread introduction of the fifth-generation technology standard, commonly known as 5G. 5G supports much higher data transfer speeds than previous generations (e.g. 3G, 4G) through the novel use of higher frequency radio waves (i.e. “mmWave”, also referred to as FR2, which are between 24GHz to 40GHz). While no detrimental human health effect of the low (athermal) levels of RF-EMF commonly used in mobile telecommunications has been consistently demonstrated, some epidemiological and experimental studies have identified possible neuropsychological effects including alteration of cognitive function, impacts on mental health, and disruption of sleep particularly in children, and biological effects including brain function, radical stress, and thermoregulation (Cabré-Riera et al., 2021; Herrala et al., 2018; Hu et al., 2021; Ishihara et al., 2020; Liu et al., 2019; Pelletier et al., 2013; Schuermann and Mevissen, 2021). In 2008, an in-depth evaluation by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classified RF-EMF as possibly carcinogenic to humans based on epidemiological evidence for an increased of glioma—a malignant type of brain cancer—related to mobile phone use (IARC Working Group on the Evaluation of Carcinogenic Risks to Humans, 2013). A series of systematic reviews is currently being conducted by the World Health Organization (WHO) on six major themes, namely cancer, adverse reproductive outcomes, cognitive impairment, non-specific symptoms, oxidative stress, and heat-related effects (Röösli et al., 2021). The rapid expansion of 5G networks and the siting of physical infrastructure required to support them have been met with considerable public opposition. Widespread misinformation campaigns (e.g. Covid-19) and nationwide protests against the introduction of 5G (SDA-Keystone/ac, 2019), provide anecdotal evidence of a high level of concern amongst some citizens about possible health effects and other implications of the technology. Empirical evidence on public risk perceptions of 5G technology is imperative to understanding and addressing public concerns, as well as devising effective communication strategies aimed at specific sub-populations (e.g. young people, older people, those living in particular countries etc.). To date, we are aware of just one study addressing this issue: a nationally-representative survey in Switzerland (Frey, 2021). This study found substantial heterogeneity in public risk perceptions of 5G. Yet, the extent to which these findings generalise across countries, or social-demographic groups remains unclear; as does whether public risk perceptions of 5G differ from those pertaining to other RF-EMF emitting technologies. Equally, with evidence that individual’s risk perceptions vary when asked to consider the risk to themselves versus other people in general (Sjöberg, 2000), children (Dosman et al., 2001) or both (White et al., 2007)public risk perceptions of 5G across different target groups warrants further investigation. This paper address these underexplored issues by examining data from a bespoke ten-country panel survey to establish: 1) the perceived seriousness of the potential health impacts associated with 5G mobile technologies relative to those of other RF-EMF emitting technologies; 2) whether the severity of perceived risks is consistent when considering self, society as a whole, and children/young people; and 3) what factors (e.g. socio-demographic groups, respondent characteristics) predict perceptions of health risks related to 5G technology.

29The Solutions Of The NLS Equations With Self-Consistent Sources

By

We construct the generalized Darboux transformation with arbitrary functions in time $t$ for the AKNS equation with self-consistent sources (AKNSESCS) which, in contrast with the Darboux transformation for the AKNS equation, provides a non-auto-B\"{a}cklund transformation between two AKNSESCSs with different degrees of sources. The formula for N-times repeated generalized Darboux transformation is proposed. By reduction the generalized Darboux transformation with arbitrary functions in time $t$ for the Nonlinear Schr\"{o}dinger equation with self-consistent sources (NLSESCS) is obtained and enables us to find the dark soliton, bright soliton and positon solutions for NLS$^{+}$ESCS and NLS$^{-}$ESCS. The properties of these solution are analyzed.

UMass Boston has been a campus in turmoil for the past 20 months. Internal upheaval first became public in January 2017 when the UMass Board of Trustees (BoT) refused to extend Chancellor Keith Motley's contract. In March 2017 the trustees disclosed that the campus was facing a budget deficit of up to $30 million with just three months remaining in fiscal year 2017. In April of 2017, Chancellor Motley resigned, prompting students, alumni, and community leaders to rally on the State House steps demanding that officials reject his resignation. UMass Boston has struggled to right its financial and administrative ship amidst the continuing frustration of students and faculty. In May 2016, seven months before the financial crisis at UMass-Boston became public, Pioneer Institute published a three-part analysis entitled "UMass at a Crossroads." The report identified many of the systemic financial problems that ultimately led to the UMass-Boston budget crisis, including unsustainable cost growth resulting from student enrollment expansion, facility expansion, rapid growth in self-funded research and development, a rising UMass Central Office budget, and unfunded deferred maintenance at campus facilities. Pioneer's report cited data from internal UMass documents and financial disclosures to Wall Street bond rating agencies and federal student lending agencies. Following a detailed review of records obtained from the UMass Comptroller's office and other publicly available sources, Pioneer Institute concludes that the UMass President and Board of Trustees (BoT) unfairly scapegoated former Chancellor Keith Motley and UMass Boston administrators for creating UMass Boston's $30 million fiscal crisis in 2017-2018 when the president and BoT themselves bore primary responsibility for creating the crisis as a result of their having approved a massive, accelerated capital expansion plan without assuring that capital reserves would be available to pay for it. This white paper provides an introduction, detailed summary of findings from that review, and recommendations for the future. Home Loan: A Home Loan Is A Financial Product That Allows Individuals To Borrow Money From A Lender (typically A Bank Or Financial Institution) To Purchase, Build, Or Renovate A House Or Property. Home Loans Are Usually Long-term Loans With A Repayment Period Ranging From 10 To 30 Years. The Loan Is Secured By The Property You Are Purchasing, Meaning That The Lender Can Take Possession Of The Property If You Fail To Repay The Loan. Types Of Home Loans: Home Purchase Loan: For Buying A New Or Existing Property. Home Construction Loan: For Constructing A House On A Plot Of Land. Home Improvement Loan: For Renovating Or Upgrading An Existing Home. Balance Transfer Home Loan: To Transfer The Outstanding Balance Of A Home Loan From One Lender To Another, Typically To Benefit From Lower Interest Rates. Eligibility Criteria: Age: Generally Between 18 To 65 Years. Income: Steady Monthly Income From A Job Or Business. Credit Score: Good Credit History. Employment Type: Salaried, Self-employed, Or Business Owner. Property Type: Residential Property, As Per The Lender's Requirements. Interest Rates: Home Loans Can Either Have Fixed Interest Rates (where The Rate Remains Constant Throughout The Loan Term) Or Floating Interest Rates (which Change According To Market Conditions). Repayment: Equated Monthly Installments (EMIs) Are Calculated Based On The Loan Amount, Interest Rate, And Loan Tenure. EMIs Generally Consist Of Both Principal And Interest Payments. 2. Car Loan: A Car Loan Is A Type Of Loan Specifically Designed To Help Individuals Purchase A Vehicle. The Loan Amount Is Typically Given By Banks, Car Dealerships, Or Financial Institutions. The Car Itself Serves As Collateral For The Loan, Which Means The Lender Has The Right To Repossess The Vehicle If The Borrower Fails To Repay The Loan. Types Of Car Loans: New Car Loan: For Purchasing A Brand-new Car. Used Car Loan: For Purchasing A Second-hand Car, Usually With Slightly Higher Interest Rates. Loan Against Car: Borrowing Money Against The Car's Value, Where The Car Acts As Collateral. Eligibility Criteria: Age: Usually Between 21 To 65 Years. Income: Must Have A Stable Source Of Income. Credit Score: A Good Credit Score Is Necessary For Favorable Loan Terms. Down Payment: Often, A Down Payment Of 10% To 20% Is Required. Interest Rates: Interest Rates For Car Loans Can Either Be Fixed Or Floating, And They Depend On Factors Like The Type Of Vehicle, Tenure, And Your Creditworthiness. Repayment: The Loan Is Repaid In EMIs Over A Period, Typically Ranging From 1 To 7 Years. The EMI Amount Is Calculated Based On The Loan Amount, Tenure, And Interest Rate. 3. Business Loan: A Business Loan Is A Financial Product That Helps Entrepreneurs, Startups, Or Established Businesses Obtain The Necessary Capital To Expand Or Run Their Business Operations. Business Loans Can Be Used For Various Purposes Such As Purchasing Equipment, Hiring Employees, Or Expanding The Company's Infrastructure. Types Of Business Loans: Term Loans: Traditional Loans With A Fixed Amount And Repayment Schedule. Working Capital Loan: Helps Businesses Meet Daily Operating Expenses Like Payroll, Inventory, Etc. Equipment Loan: Specifically For Purchasing Business Equipment. Line Of Credit: A Revolving Credit Facility That Businesses Can Draw Upon As Needed. Invoice Financing: Borrowing Money Against Unpaid Invoices. Merchant Cash Advance: A Loan Based On The Company’s Credit Card Sales. Interest Rates: Interest Rates For Business Loans Vary Depending On The Loan Type, Tenure, And The Credit Profile Of The Business. Some Loans May Have Fixed Rates, While Others May Have Variable Rates. Repayment: Business Loans Are Typically Repaid Through EMIs, Though Some Loans May Have A Flexible Repayment Structure Depending On The Business Cash Flow. 4. Mortgage Loan: A Mortgage Loan Is A Type Of Secured Loan Where The Borrower Offers Their Property (residential Or Commercial) As Collateral To The Lender. Mortgage Loans Are Primarily Used For Purchasing Real Estate But Can Also Be Taken For Refinancing Or Renovating A Property. Types Of Mortgage Loans: Home Mortgage Loan: Used For Purchasing A Home. Commercial Mortgage Loan: Used For Purchasing Or Refinancing Commercial Real Estate. Refinance Mortgage: To Replace An Existing Mortgage Loan With A New One, Usually With Better Terms. Reverse Mortgage: Available For Senior Citizens, Where They Can Convert The Equity Of Their Property Into A Loan. Eligibility Criteria: Age: Generally Between 21 To 65 Years. Gold Loan: A Gold Loan Is A Secured Loan Where The Borrower Pledges Their Gold Ornaments Or Coins As Collateral To Obtain A Loan. Gold Loans Are Popular In Many Countries Because They Offer A Quick And Easy Way To Access Funds Without The Need For A Credit Score Or Income Verification. Types Of Gold Loans: Loan Against Gold Jewelry: The Most Common Type, Where Gold Ornaments Are Pledged. Loan Against Gold Coins: Loans Offered Against The Value Of Gold Coins. Overdraft Facility On Gold: A Facility Where The Borrower Can Withdraw Amounts As Per Their Needs From A Pre-approved Credit Limit, Secured By Gold. Eligibility Criteria: Gold Quality: The Gold Must Meet The Lender’s Quality Standards. Age: Typically Between 18 To 65 Years. Loan Amount: The Loan Is Given Based On The Value Of The Pledged Gold. Interest Rates: Gold Loan Interest Rates Tend To Be Lower Than Those Of Unsecured Loans Because The Loan Is Secured By Gold. Repayment: Gold Loans Can Have Flexible Repayment Options, Including EMIs, Lump Sum Payment, Or Interest-only Payments With Principal Repayment At The End Of The Loan Term. Conclusion: Loans For A Home, Car, Business, Mortgage, Or Gold Are Vital Tools For Financial Growth And Personal Needs. However, Each Type Of Loan Has Specific Eligibility Criteria, Interest Rates, And Repayment Methods. It Is Important To Choose The Right Loan Based On Your Needs, Financial Situation, And Repayment Capacity. 35Integrable Rosochatius Deformations Of Higher-order Constrained Flows And The Soliton Hierarchy With Self-consistent Sources

By

We propose a systematic method to generalize the integrable Rosochatius deformations for finite dimensional integrable Hamiltonian systems to integrable Rosochatius deformations for infinite dimensional integrable equations. Infinite number of the integrable Rosochatius deformed higher-order constrained flows of some soliton hierarchies, which includes the generalized integrable H$\acute{e}$non-Heiles system, and the integrable Rosochatius deformations of the KdV hierarchy with self-consistent sources, of the AKNS hierarchy with self-consistent sources and of the mKdV hierarchy with self-consistent sources as well as their Lax representations are presented.

38Stochastic Acceleration And The Evolution Of Spectral Distributions In SSC Sources: A Self Consistent Modeling Of Blazars' Flares

By

The broad-band spectral distributions of non-thermal sources, such as those of several known blazars, are well described by a log-parabolic fit. The second degree term in these fits measures the curvature in the spectrum. In this paper we investigate whether the curvature parameter observed in the spectra of the synchrotron emission can be used as a fingerprint of stochastic acceleration. As a first approach we use the multiplicative Central Limit theorem to show how fluctuations in the energy gain result in the broadening of the spectral shape, introducing a curvature into the energy distribution. Then, by means of a Monte-Carlo description, we investigate how the curvature produced in the electron distribution is linked to the diffusion in momentum space. To get a more generic description we turn to the diffusion equation in momentum space. We first study some "standard" scenarios, in order to understand the conditions that make the curvature in the spectra significant, and the relevance of the cooling over the acceleration process. We try to quantify the correlation between the curvature and the diffusive process in the pre-equilibrium stage, and investigate how the transition between the Klein-Nishina and the Thompson regime, in Inverse Compton cooling, can determine the curvature in the distribution at the equilibrium. We apply these results to some observed trends, such as the anticorrelation between the peak energy and the curvature term observed in the spectra of Mrk 421, and a sample of BL Lac objects whose synchrotron emission peaks at X-ray energies.

41DTIC AD1031480: Sources Of Evolution Of The Japan Air Self Defense Force's Strategy

By

The Japan Air Self-Defense Forces (JASDF) activities, training, and weapons after the first decade of this century seem to deviate from the exclusively defense-oriented policy. This thesis investigates what is driving the evolution of JASDFs strategy behind this behavior and what is the most influential driver of that evolving strategy. This thesis first examines the JASDFs strategic changes in terms of ends, ways, and means, and assesses these changes through the concepts of defensive defense and offensive defense to illuminate the JASDFs strategy. Then, this thesis analyzes four possible drivers of the JASDFs strategic evolution: the Peoples Liberation Armys (PLA) air power, the North Korean threat, the conservative swing of Japanese domestic politics, and the offensive nature of the air strategy. This thesis argues that the JASDFs strategy has evolved from the defensive defense strategy to the offensive defense strategy after the early 2000s. In addition, even though the evolution of the JASDFs strategy is a combined result of the four independent variables, the strongest driver is the modernization of the PLAs air power. Therefore, the improvement of the relationship between Japan and China is the most important factor in curtailing an arms race in Northeast Asia.

42ERIC ED445061: Development And Validation Of The Sources Of Self-Efficacy Inventory (SOSI): Exploring A New Measure Of Teacher Efficacy.

By

This paper describes the development and construct validation of a new instrument of teacher efficacy, the Sources of Self-Efficacy Inventory (SOSI), which was created to address shortcomings in previous measures that purported to measure this construct. Development of the SOSI was based on a model of teacher efficacy posited by M. Tschannen-Moran, A. Woolfolk Roy, and W. Roy (1998) that described four important areas of efficacy building information as proposed by A. Bandura (1997). The SOSI was examined with a sample of 252 undergraduate students in an educational psychology course. Factor analysis of the 35 SOSI items yielded 4 interpretable factors that contained many of the target items. However, many items were associated with non-intended factors, and it was apparent that item and subscale revision was necessary. Results of a confirmatory factor analytic study of another teacher efficacy instrument, the Teacher Efficacy Scale, are presented to further explore the teacher efficacy construct. An appendix presents items from the SOSI. (Contains 2 tables and 21 references.) (Author/SLD)

1Union and Communion - or Thoughts on the Song of Solomon

By

Book's cover

This little book, whose design is to lead the devout Bible student into the Green Pastures of the Good Shepherd, thence to the Banqueting House of the King, and thence to the service of the Vineyard, is one of the abiding legacies of Mr. Hudson Taylor to the Church. In the power of an evident unction from the Holy One, he has been enabled herein to unfold in simplest language the deep truth of the believer's personal union with the Lord, which under symbol and imagery is the subject of The Song of Songs. (From the Foreword by J Stuart Holden).

5Our American Cousin (Dramatic Reading)

By

Book's cover

Our American Cousin is an 1858 three-act play by English playwright Tom Taylor. The play is a farce whose plot is based on the introduction of an awkward, boorish, but honest American, Asa Trenchard, to his aristocratic English relatives when he goes to England to claim the family estate. . . . Although the play achieved great renown during its first few years and remained very popular throughout the second half of the 19th century, it is best remembered as the play U.S. President Abraham Lincoln was attending in Ford's Theatre when he was assassinated by actor and Confederate sympathizer John Wilkes Booth on April 14, 1865. - Summary by Wikipedia<br> <br> <b>Cast</b><br> Narrator: <a href="https://librivox.org/reader/8164">KHand</a><br> Asa Trenchard: <a href="https://librivox.org/reader/9647">Joseph Tabler</a><br> Florence Trenchard: <a href="https://librivox.org/reader/6281">Beth Thomas</a><br> Lord Dundreary: <a href="https://librivox.org/reader/8164">Rob Board</a><br> Sir Edward Trenchard: <a href="https://librivox.org/reader/9929">Zames Curran</a><br> Mr. Coyle: <a href="https://librivox.org/reader/8799">Peter Tucker</a><br> Mary Meredith: <a href="https://librivox.org/reader/6548">Kristin Gjerløw</a><br> Mr. Binny: <a href="https://librivox.org/reader/6754">ToddHW</a><br> Abel Murcott: <a href="https://librivox.org/reader/10123">Scott Bennett</a><br> Mrs. Mountchessington: <a href="https://librivox.org/reader/3816">Bev J Stevens</a><br> Georgina Mountchessington: <a href="https://librivox.org/reader/7026">Michele Eaton</a><br> Augusta Mountchessington: <a href="https://librivox.org/reader/8051">Maria Kasper</a><br> Mr. Buddicombe: <a href="https://librivox.org/reader/10193">Howard Watts</a><br> Harry Vernon: <a href="https://librivox.org/reader/10143">TenorBoy</a><br> John Wickens: <a href="https://librivox.org/reader/10463">VfkaBT</a><br> Captain De Boots: <a href="https://librivox.org/reader/6065">David Olson</a><br> Sharpe: <a href="https://librivox.org/reader/9001">Mary Kay</a><br> Skillet: <a href="https://librivox.org/reader/9508">Jessie Yun</a><br> <b>Edited by: <a href="https://librivox.org/reader/8164">Rob Board</a></b><br> <br>Proof-listened by <a href="https://librivox.org/reader/9508">Jessie Yun</a> and <a href="https://librivox.org/reader/6281">Beth Thomas</a>.<br> Project coordinated by <a href="https://librivox.org/reader/8425">Larry Wilson</a> and <a href="https://librivox.org/reader/8164">Rob Board</a>.

6Rule and Exercises of Holy Dying

By

Written by a Church of England clergyman in the time of Cromwell, this work is praised for both its style and content. Taylor's work was much admired by John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, for its devotional quality; and by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Thomas de Quincey, and Edmund Gosse for its literary qualities.<br /><br /><i>Holy Dying</i> is meant to instruct the reader in the "means and instruments" of preparing for a blessed death, written in a time when death was a constant companion to life and not to be encountered without being ready for it. It assumes illness and a death-bed, with recommended meditations and prayers for the sick, the family, and the clergyman attending to the dying one. (Summary by TriciaG, with help from Wikipedia)

7Æsop in Rhyme, with Some Originals

By

Jefferys Taylor was born in 1792 in Suffolk, England. He became apprenticed to his father who was an engraver and invented a special ruling machine for engravers but went on to emulate his mother who was a children's writer. His books include favourites like Harry's Holliday or the Doings of One Who had Nothing to Do and The Little Historians. <br><br>This book "Aesop in Rhyme" published in 1820, contains 58 of Aesop's Fables which he has retold in verse as well as 13 original fables of his own. Each is illustrated with an engraving which though uncredited he probably drew himself. He died in 1853. (Summary by Noel Badrian)

As her cousin, Edward VI, lay on his death-bed, he nominated her as his successor to the English crown ahead of his half-sisters Mary and Elizabeth. Often considered one of the most romantic characters of royal history, Taylor gives us a full biography of the Nine Day Queen. - Summary by Lynne Thompson

18On the Red Staircase

By

Book's cover

"“The Czarevitch Ivan is said to be indifferent to the high office,” I replied, in a low tone; “he is blind.” “Ay, and deformed!” said the Russian, promptly. “Yet will the people of Russia demand the recognition of primogeniture. Court intrigues cannot prevail. What a flimsy pretext was this election! The States-General of Russia elected Michael Romanof; the Czar Shuisky fell because he was elected by Moscow alone; and this is not the Moscovite State, but the rabble of the city, and the retainers of the boyars! The Miloslavskys are down to-day, but who dares to predict for to-morrow?”" A fictional account of the turmoil following the death of Czar Alexis, when Russians were forced to choose between the traditional rule of primogeniture, in the form of the deficient Ivan, and his more suitable but younger half-brother, Peter. - Summary by LynneT

20Eyes and No Eyes and Other Stories

By

Book's cover

Whatever will stimulate the observing tendencies of the young cannot but be of value to them. "Eyes and No Eyes" does this in a delightful way. The story is so natural that the child is wrapped up in it, and so it makes a deep impress upon him. Much less could be accomplished by simply telling him to observe, or lecturing upon the value of keeping one's eyes open. But when the reader sees how much more William gets out of his walk than Robert, and what marvellous things exist everywhere if one is on the lookout for them, he is himself incited to examine with greater care the many more or less ordinary things he has neglected heretofore. William and Robert become very real individuals to the child, and there is no doubt which of them he will choose to emulate. The author relies upon the force of concrete example to determine the conduct of children, and this is certainly sound in theory and endorsed by experience. Two of the stories are written by a brother-sister team of John Aikin and Jane Barbauld and are from their multi-volume work on "The Art of Seeing". Jane Marcet has also written many scientific books. Best well known, however, is the author Jane Taylor who wrote the lyrics to "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star"

23One of China's Scholars

By

The first of two volumes telling the life story of Pastor Hsi, a Confucian scholar from Shanxi province in Northern China who became a Christian in the 1870s. Pastor Hsi grew up in a China now long gone, when the scholarly class to which he belonged held a leading place in society. He lived through tumultuous times of change in China, when the opium that enriched the pockets of Western countries brought widespread addiction and poverty while a multi-year drought brought famine, decimating the already weakened population. Into this scene of tragedy, two western men stepped, bringing with them food to help the poor and starving, seeds for planting when the rains returned, and news that The Supreme Ruler was not hidden behind the gates of the Temple of Heaven, reachable only by the Emperor once a year, but instead was reaching out to the people in love, seeking to reconcile them with Himself. Hsi's life had been one of searching. While trained as a Confucian, he found himself unable to reach the high ideals espoused by its maxims and regulations. He explored Taoism and Buddism, but found them filled with idols and superstitions which trapped the common people in darkness and uncertainty. Hsi knew his heart and bore his failings with inner shame, even while people honored him as a scholarly disciple of Confucius. Was there a power anywhere that could change Hsi from within? - Summary by MaryAnn
