Elevated reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels disrupt hormonal balance, damage germ cells, and impair fertility-related pathways. An increasing body of evidence suggests that antioxidant-rich plant extracts can mitigate oxidative stress-induced reproductive dysfunctions by modulating hormonal responses and preserving reproductive organ integrity. This review explores the intricate interplay between oxidative stress, hormonal regulation, and reproductive health, emphasizing the therapeutic potential of phytochemicals with antioxidative properties. Mechanistic insights, experimental findings, and clinical implications are discussed to provide a consolidated understanding of the prospects of plant-derived antioxidants in reproductive medicine. The review concludes by highlighting future research needs for optimizing phytotherapy-based interventions in reproductive health management.

This autoinstructional lesson deals with the study of the human body with emphasis on the life process of reproduction. It is a learning activity included in high school biology or health education classes. The behavioral objectives are listed and the equipment and materials needed to help the student gain these objectives are also included in the packet. It is suggested that 20 minutes will be needed to complete the lesson. A complete vocabulary sheet is presented with the student script. (EB)

The Windber/Walter Reed Clinical Breast Care Project will help lead the way in the 21st century in the crusade against breast disorders. The project will utilize a multidisciplinary approach as the stand of care for treating breast diseases and breast cancer. This multidisciplinary model integrated prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment and continuing care, but the project is further unique in the incorporation of advanced in risk reduction, informatics, tissue banking and research. These efforts focus on decreasing the morbidity and mortality of breast cancer among American women.

This module on the reproductive system is one of 17 modules designed for individualized instruction in health occupations education programs at both the secondary and postsecondary levels. It is part of an eight-unit miniseries on anatomy and physiology within the series of 17 modules. Following a preface which explains to the student how to use the module, the unit consists of a pretest with answers, four sections (information sheets) with their objectives (e.g., identify and describe the processes involved in conception), optional activities (e.g., describe what would be necessary to produce a "test-tube baby" from conception through the ability to survive on its own), and posttests, and a glossary of terms. Topics covered in the unit are introduction to the reproductive system, the female reproductive organs, the menstrual cycle, and conception. An accompanying instructor's guide contains suggestions for using the module and answers to the posttest. (KC)

With the development of new analytical detection capabilities, perchlorate contamination has been found in ground and surface waters across the United States (U.S.). Perchlorate, as ammonium perchlorate, is an oxidant used in solid rocket fuels; hence, sources of contamination generally occur near military test sites and chemical manufacturing plants. The perchlorate anion (ClO4 -) is known to inhibit thyroid function in mammals. In some locations in the U.S., perchlorate has been found at part per million concentrations in surface water inhabited by fish. To test the hypothesis that exposure to environmentally relevant concentrations of perchlorate can impact fish thyroid and reproductive function, adult male and female common goldfish (Carassius auratus) were exposed in a laboratory flow-through exposure system for 30 days to four concentrations of perchlorate ranging from 14 ppb to 31 ppm, along with controls. Exposure was continued to 60 d for an additional set of controls and 31 ppm treatment groups. Gonadosomatic index (GSI), gonad histology, and plasma sex steroids (17 -estradiol, testosterone, and 11-ketotestosterone) were examined to assess reproductive function. Thyroid activity was assessed by use of a nonparametric rank-order assessment method developed for fish during this study. Significant increases in head kidney thyroid activity occurred at 1200 ppb and 31 ppm in females and at 31 ppm in males. Pharyngeal thyroid activity increased in both male and female goldfish exposed to 31 ppm perchlorate. Exposure to perchlorate concentrations up to 31 ppm for 30 or 60 d had no effect on GSI. Some statistically significant effects on plasma sex steroid concentrations were observed for both sexes, but the differences were small and concentrations remained within normal ranges previously reported for goldfish in this reproductive state.

The effect of sleep on male reproductive system - A systematic review and meta analysis

Abstract Background: the purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of sleep deprivation on semen analyses, hormone levels and testicular histopathology in men. Methods: this review will be included in a qualified case-control study. The search strategy will be implemented in PubMed, Embase, Web of science, Cochrane library, China National knowledge Infrastructure database( CNKI), Wanfang Database, and the Cochrane library. We will solicit both English and Chinese case-control studies published from its beginning to July 31, 2020. The two examiners will independently screen, select research, extract data and evaluate quality. We use Revman5.3 software to generate funnel map, heterogeneity assessment, data analysis, subgroup analysis and sensitivity analysis. Results: in the current meta-analysis, we will provide some more practical and targeted results for the study of the effects of sleep on the male reproductive system, and sum up the main limitations of previous studies. Conclusion: this study will provide new evidence for the effect of sleep on male reproductive system.

Design: The study was carried out in the scenario of a public hospital of a reference university maternity hospital in Senegal, a private clinic, anda lab practice. The compilation of data for the automatic calculation of performance indicators and its transcription to a standard in electronic form was carried out by specialists in GynecologyObstetrics, Biologists, and Computer Scientists. Results: E-ART software is structured around several hierarchical tables allowing users to register and store all relevant patients’ information. E-ART structures the patient’s data to provide a clear overview of their medical history and users’ activity performance. E-ART makes medical users’ life so much easier. Users can generate and send letters, prescriptions quickly and efficiently using the customized templates which they can modify or create. In addition to these capabilities, all of the features expected in an Assisted Reproductive technology EHR are handled by E-ART, such as ovarian stimulation monitoring, blood test measurements, egg retrieval, embryo culture, embryo transfer and so much more. E-ART makes it possible to manage all stages from ovarian stimulation to embryo transfer. The EART software also allows to generating reports and statistics according to customized templates and those of ANARA.
