By NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS)
The consumables characteristic data associated with the performance of the mission activities required by the mission planning processor are defined to calculate the consumables requirements. The activity data is defined in terms of discrete time periods having a distinct rate for each consumable required to support the performance of a given operation. The data is structured in a series of consumable data worksheets for each activity that includes a profile of its operations and the rate of each consumable required to support the given activity. The data worksheets provide for the uniform specification of consumables data, allows for the ready identification of the consumables affected by a given activity, and facilitates the updating process. An activity and the data that must be included in the data worksheets are defined and an example of its use and application the consumables data requirements for the performance of the EVA are presented.

2NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS) 19850023809: Development And Validation Of A General Purpose Linearization Program For Rigid Aircraft Models
By NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS)
A FORTRAN program that provides the user with a powerful and flexible tool for the linearization of aircraft models is discussed. The program LINEAR numerically determines a linear systems model using nonlinear equations of motion and a user-supplied, nonlinear aerodynamic model. The system model determined by LINEAR consists of matrices for both the state and observation equations. The program has been designed to allow easy selection and definition of the state, control, and observation variables to be used in a particular model. Also, included in the report is a comparison of linear and nonlinear models for a high performance aircraft.

3NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS) 19970036054: Development Of Computer Models For The Assessment Of Foreign Body Impact Events On Composite Structures
By NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS)
The objective of this project was to model the 5-3/4 inch pressure vessels used on the NASA RTOP program in an attempt to learn more about how impact damage forms and what are the residual effects of the resulting damage. A global-local finite element model was developed for the bottle and the states of stress in the bottles were determined down to the constituent level. The experimental data that was generated on the NASA RTOP program was not in a form that enabled the model developed under this grant to be correlated with the experimental data. As a result of this exercise it is recommended that an experimental program be designed using statistical design of experiment techniques to generate data that can be used to isolate the phenomenon that control the formation of impact damage. This data should include residual property determinations so that models for post impact structural integrity can be developed. It is also recommended that the global-local methodology be integrated directly into the finite element code. This will require considerable code development.

4Comparison Of The Characteristics Of Small Commercial NDIR CO2 Sensor Models And Development Of A Portable CO2 Measurement Device.
By Yasuda, Tomomi, Yonemura, Seiichiro and Tani, Akira
This article is from Sensors (Basel, Switzerland) , volume 12 . Abstract Many sensors have to be used simultaneously for multipoint carbon dioxide (CO2) observation. All the sensors should be calibrated in advance, but this is a time-consuming process. To seek a simplified calibration method, we used four commercial CO2 sensor models and characterized their output tendencies against ambient temperature and length of use, in addition to offset characteristics. We used four samples of standard gas with different CO2 concentrations (0, 407, 1,110, and 1,810 ppm). The outputs of K30 and AN100 models showed linear relationships with temperature and length of use. Calibration coefficients for sensor models were determined using the data from three individual sensors of the same model to minimize the relative RMS error. When the correction was applied to the sensors, the accuracy of measurements improved significantly in the case of the K30 and AN100 units. In particular, in the case of K30 the relative RMS error decreased from 24% to 4%. Hence, we have chosen K30 for developing a portable CO2 measurement device (10 × 10 × 15 cm, 900 g). Data of CO2 concentration, measurement time and location, temperature, humidity, and atmospheric pressure can be recorded onto a Secure Digital (SD) memory card. The CO2 concentration in a high-school lecture room was monitored with this device. The CO2 data, when corrected for simultaneously measured temperature, water vapor partial pressure, and atmospheric pressure, showed a good agreement with the data measured by a highly accurate CO2 analyzer, LI-6262. This indicates that acceptable accuracy can be realized using the calibration method developed in this study.

5ERIC ED094005: A Survey Of Extant Development And Evaluation Models Used In Regional Educational Laboratories And Research And Development Centers.
By ERIC
Results are presented of a survey designed to elicit information from labs and centers on the types of development models that are currently being used in product development efforts and the evaluation strategies or models that have been found to be most compatible with them. The case is made that a great deal of research needs to be conducted on evaluation and development procedures before empirically based policy can be developed. Before such a research base could be provided, two significant conceptual problems have to be addressed. First, how does one define, identify, and describe development and evaluation models per se, and secondly, how does one determine when an instructional technology perspective is indeed more relevant than an industrial management or value research perspective? 6Progress In The Development Of High Degree Potential Coefficient Models
By Rapp, Richard H
A natural extension of the recent satellite derived potential coefficient models is the development of high degree (maximum 180 or 360) expansions. Such expansions are based on the combination of the satellite derived models with terrestrial gravity data and satellite altimeter data. Such models are useful for more precise geoid undulation computations, for simulation studies involving different typed of future missions (e.g., gradiometry), and as reference fields for different types of gravimetric computations. The attention is to the effect of the terrain, ellipsoidal terms, and weighting. The basic methods used for the high degree solutions are reviewed. Various correction terms are described and recent models are discussed and compared.

7ERIC ED125806: Three Models In Search Of Appalachian Development: Critique And Synthesis.
By ERIC
In an effort to clarify and synthesize recent explanations of underdevelopment and poverty in Central Appalachia, the following three models were explored: (1) the subculture of poverty model (identifies the internal deficiencies of the Southern Appalachian traditional subculture as the source of poverty problems); (2) the regional development model (providing for economic and social overhead capital, training people in skills for new industrial and service jobs, facilitating migration, and promoting private industry via a growth center strategy); (3) the internal colonialism model (identifies the process by which dominant outside industrial interests establish control and continue to prevent autonomous development of the subordinate internal colony). It was concluded that: the three models should be understood as representations of the different dimensions of social existence; the human interest dimensions of mutual understanding, technical control, and emancipation should provide a framework for perceiving cultural adaptation, technical development, and redistribution of power as potentially complimentary aspects of social development; institutions should be analyzed in the context of the competitive, monopolistic, and state sectors of the national economy; class structure should be viewed in its full complexity. 10Development Of Indonesian National Qualification Framework-Based Teaching Models And Materials For Learning Instructional Media Design Department Of Building Engineering Education Faculty Of Engineering State University Of Medan
The learning model developed in this study is a whole series of presentation of teaching material that covers all aspects before being and after learning conducted by lecturers by including teaching materials in the teaching and learning process. The learning model developed is called QI MODELS with the syntax: Goals, Observation, Project, Discussion, Task, Practice, Meaningful, Justification, and Evaluation. Teaching material contains a set of material from the course "Instructional Media Design" that is arranged systematically so that lecturers and students can use it in the learning process in an atmosphere and a comfortable environment for learning. To see the effectiveness of the product an analysis of the learning outcomes of the 26 students taught using the Instructional Media Design textbook developed, and compared with the learning outcomes of students in the class taught with presentation material. Based on the analysis, the average value of basic competencies using instructional materials for Indonesian National Qualification Framework (INQF)-based Instructional Media Design is higher than the average value of students who use presentation materials. Testing the hypothesis used is a different test. From the calculation results obtained tcount = 7.63 while ttable = 2.01. Because tcount = 7.63>ttable = 2.01, it was concluded that there was a significant difference in students' learning achievement using Instructional Media Design textbooks and using presentation material. The effectiveness of the use of Instructional Media Design textbooks is 79.09%.

11DTIC ADA130327: The Use Of Physical Models In Development Of The M-X Protective Shelter
By Defense Technical Information Center
The design candidate M-X protective shelters made extensive use of engineering data developed from tests on physical models. This paper describes the effort associated with structural hardening of the three principal M-X shelter concepts: Horizontal Shelter, Vertical Shelter, and Shallow Buried TRench. Primary emphasis was on the trench concept in which a highly coordinated program of theory and experiment provided the data base for (1) characterization of the airblast loading within the trench structure (i.e., shallow buried tube), (2) feasibility determination of blast plug concepts, and (3) developing a minimum cost design for the hardened shallow buried tube. The experimental activities supporting this effort included laboratory and field shock tube testing, high explosive field testing, and an underground nuclear test. Most innovative, from a structural enginneering perspecitve, was the modeling of (1) coupled airblast and ground shock loading and damage-level response of shallow buried fiber-reinforced concrete tubes, (2) expansion and venting of the tube under internal airblast loading, and (3) coupled flow-structural response of the plug/tube system.

12Development And Evaluation Of Two Learning-Based Personalized Driver Models For Car-Following Behaviors
By Wenshuo Wang, Ding Zhao, Junqiang Xi, David J. LeBlanc and J. Karl Hedrick
Personalized driver models play a key role in the development of advanced driver assistance systems and automated driving systems. Traditionally, physical-based driver models with fixed structures usually lack the flexibility to describe the uncertainties and high non-linearity of driver behaviors. In this paper, two kinds of learning-based car-following personalized driver models were developed using naturalistic driving data collected from the University of Michigan Safety Pilot Model Deployment program. One model is developed by combining the Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) and the Hidden Markov Model (HMM), and the other one is developed by combining the Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) and Probability Density Functions (PDF). Fitting results between the two approaches were analyzed with different model inputs and numbers of GMM components. Statistical analyses show that both models provide good performance of fitting while the GMM--PDF approach shows a higher potential to increase the model accuracy given a higher dimension of training data.

Statistical analyses show that both models provide good performance of fitting while the GMM--PDF approach shows a higher potential to increase the model accuracy given a higher dimension of training data.

14Consumption-led Growth : Strategy For China's Transformation Of Development Models

17NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS) 19940014075: Assessment And Development Of Second Order Turbulence Models
By NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS)
Second order turbulence models describe the effect of mean flow and external agencies (such as buoyancy) on the evolution of turbulence. Therefore, in principle, these models give a more accurate description of complicated flow fields (e.g. flows with large anisotropy in turbulence, such as near the leading edge of a turbine blade) than the two equation models. The objectives of this document are to assess the performance of the various second order turbulence models in benchmark flows and to seek improvements where necessary in models for the pressure correlation term in the scalar flux equation and for the scalar dissipation equation.

19NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS) 20110010861: Traffic Flow Management Using Aggregate Flow Models And The Development Of Disaggregation Methods
By NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS)
A linear time-varying aggregate traffic flow model can be used to develop Traffic Flow Management (tfm) strategies based on optimization algorithms. However, there are no methods available in the literature to translate these aggregate solutions into actions involving individual aircraft. This paper describes and implements a computationally efficient disaggregation algorithm, which converts an aggregate (flow-based) solution to a flight-specific control action. Numerical results generated by the optimization method and the disaggregation algorithm are presented and illustrated by applying them to generate TFM schedules for a typical day in the U.S. National Airspace System. The results show that the disaggregation algorithm generates control actions for individual flights while keeping the air traffic behavior very close to the optimal solution.

21ERIC ED091238: Macroanalysis: A Step Toward The Development Of Discussion Catalysts And Instructional Models.
By ERIC
Reported is an observational analysis process termed "macroanalysis" which involves the analysis of interactive dialogue in chains or sequences of coded behavior rather than in terms of conventional matrices and ratios. All existing 3-, 4-, and 5-tally chains are extracted directly from an observer's coded tallies. This paper includes a presentation of the Campbell-Rose Interaction System, a definition and discussion of units of dialogue and of discussion catalysts (which include what Rowe calls "wait-time"). A list of 13 references is also included. (PEB)

22DTIC ADA629737: Development And Experimental Evaluation Of Oceanic Evaporation Duct Models Based On The LKB Approach
By Defense Technical Information Center
LONG-TERM GOAL. Our long term goal is to contribute to the development and evaluation of an operational evaporation duct model for use in microwave propagation prediction. OBJECTIVES. We have three main objectives. Our first objective is to develop a metric, involving one or more parameters, to replace evaporation duct height as a fundamental basis for comparison and evaluation of evaporation duct models. Our second objective is to use experimental data to evaluate various LKBbased (where LKB refers to Liu et al 1979) evaporation duct models (e.g., the BYC model described in Babin et al 1997, the NRL-Monterey Model, etc.) to determine the best model(s) using the objective criterion from the first objective. Our third objective is to perform a sensitivity study to evaluate the possible effects of issues raised during the Naval Postgraduate School Evaporation Duct Workshops on the LKB approach to evaporation duct models.

23Development Of Computer Models For Simulating The Optimum Design Parameters Of A Passive Solar Heating Chicken Brooder System
Brooding refers to early periods of growth when chicks require supplementary heat to maintain their normal body temperature. Generally, chicks kept in environmental temperatures outside their comfort zone suffer low growth and high mortality rates. Solar energy has a regular daily and annual cycle, and is unavailable during periods of bad weather. Hence requires special storage and distribution of the energy different from the utilization of conventional energy sources. In this study computer models were developed for simulating internal brooder envelope brooding Temperatures and ammonia gas concentration in ppm. Further, analysis was carried out to determine the influence of trombe wall thickness on the variation of hourly internal brooder temperatures for various months of the year. The trombe wall thickness were set at 100,150, 200, 250 and 300mm and hourly temperatures simulated using Matlab computer program. The wall thickness of 100mm and 150 mm yielded maximum brooding space temperature of 36.50C and 35.30C respectively. The resultant brooder temperatures were above the optimal brooding temperature range of 340C for day one and 21 to 240C for the 28th day of brooding. However, the lowest brooder temperatures attained for 100mm and 150mm wall thickness were 29.50C and 30.80C respectively. The wall thickness of 300mm yielded temperature range of 25.70C to 280C.From this study it is deduced that the wall thickness of 100 and 150mm are suitable for development of a chicks’ brooder. Though, supplementary source of heat will be required to keep the birds comfortable for the first one week of brooding period. The brooder pH was set at 10 and the ammonia concentration simulated for 28 days at brooding floor temperatures of 14.80C, 18.70C, 22.60C and 27.40C.The results were that the ammonia concentration increased exponentially from day one to the 28th day of brooding for all the floor temperatures. The highest emission of ammonia was recorded at the temperature of 14.80C for the first fifteen days; but after the 15th day the temperature of 18.70C recorded the highest emission of ammonia. Conversely, the temperature of 27.40C yielded the lowest ammonia emission. Therefore, it is essential in the design of brooders to have provision for facilitating removal of birds’ droppings to minimize emission of the ammonia gas from the floor of the brooder.

25NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS) 20120004277: The Development Of Models For Carbon Dioxide Reduction Technologies For Spacecraft Air Revitalization
By NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS)
Through the respiration process, humans consume oxygen (O2) while producing carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O) as byproducts. For long term space exploration, CO2 concentration in the atmosphere must be managed to prevent hypercapnia. Moreover, CO2 can be used as a source of oxygen through chemical reduction serving to minimize the amount of oxygen required at launch. Reduction can be achieved through a number of techniques. NASA is currently exploring the Sabatier reaction, the Bosch reaction, and co- electrolysis of CO2 and H2O for this process. Proof-of-concept experiments and prototype units for all three processes have proven capable of returning useful commodities for space exploration. All three techniques have demonstrated the capacity to reduce CO2 in the laboratory, yet there is interest in understanding how all three techniques would perform at a system level within a spacecraft. Consequently, there is an impetus to develop predictive models for these processes that can be readily rescaled and integrated into larger system models. Such analysis tools provide the ability to evaluate each technique on a comparable basis with respect to processing rates. This manuscript describes the current models for the carbon dioxide reduction processes under parallel developmental efforts. Comparison to experimental data is provided were available for verification purposes.

26NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS) 19750002032: Development Of An Apparatus To Measure Thermophysical Properties Of Wind Tunnel Heat Transfer Models
By NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS)
The apparatus and technique for measuring the thermophysical properties of models used with the phase-change paint method for obtaining wind tunnel heat transfer data are described. The method allows rapid measurement of the combined properties in a transient manner similar to an actual wind tunnel test. An effective value of the thermophysical properties can be determined which accounts for changes in thermal properties with temperature or with depth into the model surface. The apparatus was successfully tested at various heating rates between 19,000 and 124,000 watts per square meter.

27Development And Internal Validation Of Multivariable Prediction Models Of Small Molecule Drug Approval Based On Physicochemical Parameters
By James Andrew Smith and Gary Collins
Predicting drug approval could be valuable in reducing attrition during drug development. Several attempts have been made to develop prediction models of regulatory approval or clinical development on the basis of a range of predictors. However, these models have not included detailed information related to the physicochemical parameters of the compounds, which could be informative and which have been the basis of many extremely influential attempts to distinguish potential drugs from other chemicals. In this project, we will develop and internally validate a prediction model based on comparison of approved small molecule drugs (‘drugs’) with drugs that entered clinical development but were discontinued. Predictors are physicochemical parameters commonly considered in assessments of ‘drug-likeness’.

30Development Of Learning Management Models To Promote Democratic Behavior For Undergraduate Students
By Wipada Phinla
This research aimed to 1) develop learning management model to enhance democratic behavior for undergraduate students; 2) determine the effectiveness of using learning management model to enhance democratic behavior for undergraduate students and 3) disseminate learning management model to enhance democratic behavior for undergraduate students. The sample used in this research was selected by purposive sampling. It consisted of 52 second year teaching profession students majoring in Social Studies, Faculty of Education, Thaksin University, Songkhla Campus enrolling in Human Rights Education course during the second semester of academic year 2016. The research instruments were Lesson plans and a form for assessing students’ democratic behavior and Students’ Satisfaction Questionnaire on Use of Learning Management Model. The data were analyzed by mean, standard deviation (S.D.), t-test for dependent and content analysis. The findings of the research were as follows: 1. The learning management model to enhance democratic behavior consisted of four elements (RIEEP Model): 1) principles of the learning management model; 2) objectives of the learning management model; 3) learning management process; and 4) conditions for implementing the learning management model, which consisted of principles and responses, social system, and supportive elements. Learning management model consisted five stages of learning management: 1) Restoration of democratic citizenship, 2) Search for democratic citizenship, 3) Spreading the role of democratic citizenship, 4) Organizing civil democratic dialogue, and 5) Actual practice of democratic citizenship. 2. The effectiveness of the model was found that 2.1) Students’ democratic behavior was higher than the level of perceived value reaching the level of organization of the value system with the statistical significance at .05, 2.2) Students’ satisfaction toward development of learning management model to enhance democratic behavior for undergraduate students was at the most. 3. The results of disseminating of the model were found that 3.1) Students’ democratic behavior higher than the level of perceived value reaching the level of organization of the value system was statistical significance at .05, 3.2) Students’ satisfaction toward development of learning management model to enhance democratic behavior for undergraduate students was at the most.

31Development Of Multivariate NTCP Models For Radiation-induced Hypothyroidism: A Comparative Analysis.
By Cella, Laura, Liuzzi, Raffaele, Conson, Manuel, D'Avino, Vittoria, Salvatore, Marco and Pacelli, Roberto
This article is from Radiation Oncology (London, England) , volume 7 . Abstract Background: Hypothyroidism is a frequent late side effect of radiation therapy of the cervical region. Purpose of this work is to develop multivariate normal tissue complication probability (NTCP) models for radiation-induced hypothyroidism (RHT) and to compare them with already existing NTCP models for RHT. Methods: Fifty-three patients treated with sequential chemo-radiotherapy for Hodgkin’s lymphoma (HL) were retrospectively reviewed for RHT events. Clinical information along with thyroid gland dose distribution parameters were collected and their correlation to RHT was analyzed by Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient (Rs). Multivariate logistic regression method using resampling methods (bootstrapping) was applied to select model order and parameters for NTCP modeling. Model performance was evaluated through the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC). Models were tested against external published data on RHT and compared with other published NTCP models. Results: If we express the thyroid volume exceeding X Gy as a percentage (Vx(%)), a two-variable NTCP model including V30(%) and gender resulted to be the optimal predictive model for RHT (Rs = 0.615, p

36DTIC ADA202632: Development, Calibration And Application Of Runoff Forecasting Models For The Allegheny River Basin
By Defense Technical Information Center
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is responsible for operating several hundred reservoirs throughout the United States. Many of the reservoirs are multiple purpose, with flood control as a primary purpose. Day-to-day operational decisions are generally made in water control centers located in the Corps' district offices. Some of these offices utilize a water-control software system developed by the Hydrologic Engineering Center (Pabst and Peters, 1983), which facilitates the decision-making process with capabilities for processing meteorologic and hydrologic data, forecasting runoff and simulating reservoir system performance. A component of the software system is computer program HECIF (Peters and Ely, 1985), which performs runoff forecasting. The focus of this paper is on application of HECIF in making short-term (3 to 5 day) forecasts for the 11,733 square mile (30,440 sq. km.) Allegheny River Basin, which contains nine flood control reservoirs operated by the Pittsburgh District, Corps of Engineers. Following a brief overview of the nature and scope of the water control software system, the intended application of HECIF is provided. The characteristics of the Allegheny Basin, data collection networks, and forecast needs are described, as well as the approach used for model calibration and initial results. Finally, comments are made regarding the present status of model development and usage, and plans for the future.

37DTIC ADA454473: Development Of Mathematical Models Of Immune Networks Intended For Information Security Assurance
By Defense Technical Information Center
The natural immune system is considered by many specialists as a second brain of vertebrates. In fact, the immune system possesses all the main features of Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems: (1) memory, (2) learning capability, (3) capability to recognize self and non-self, and (4) decision-making capability, that is, the immune system must decide how to treat all macromolecules it encounters even if such molecules are foreign and have never existed before. Of special interest to computer science is the theory of immune networks which describes interactions between immune system specific proteins (antibodies) and foreign macromolecules (antigens). The existence of such immune networks has been established experimentally by molecular immunology which has detected and described the antibody-antigen interaction. Based on the biological principles of the immune system, the field of Artificial Immune Systems (AISs) has been established. It hopes to offer powerful and robust information processing capabilities for solving complex problems. For example, AISs may provide improved techniques to detect and mitigate modern computer network vulnerabilities to intrusions from computer viruses, unauthorized access or other forms of data corruption. Like other modern computer science techniques such as Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) or Intelligent Agents, AISs can learn new information, recall previously learned information, and perform pattern recognition in a highly decentralized fashion. However, AISs based on natural immune networks differ remarkably from ANNs, intelligent agents, genetic algorithms, and cellular automata in their ability to recognize self and non-self and their highly specific activity. AISs have already been applied to several specific problems including information security, fault detection, robotic control, and others.

38DTIC ADA553146: An Interactive Design Space Supporting Development Of Vehicle Architecture Concept Models
By Defense Technical Information Center
Due to a lack of suitable analysis tools, automotive engineers are often forced to forego quantitative optimization early in the development process, when fundamental decisions establishing vehicle architecture are made. This lack of tools arises because traditional analysis models require detailed geometric descriptions of components and assembly joints in order to yield accurate results, but this information is simply not available early in the development cycle. Optimization taking place later in the cycle usually occurs at the detail design level, and tends to result in expedient solutions to performance problems that might have been more effectively addressed at the architecture level. Alternatively, late-cycle architecture changes may be imposed, but such modifications are equivalent to a huge optimization cycle covering almost the entire design process, and require discarding the detail design work used originally as the basis of the NVH model. Optimizing at the architecture level can both shorten and improve the results of a vehicle development process. In this paper we describe the requirements and implementation of a user interface for a software package supporting vehicle architecture conceptual design and analysis.

40DTIC ADA465938: Development And Implementation Of Practical Optimal LES Models
By Defense Technical Information Center
One of the most promising techniques for the prediction of turbulent flows is that of Large Eddy Simulation (LES), in which an under-resolved representation of the turbulence is simulated numerically by modeling the effects of the unresolved small-scales on the simulation. Such simulations have been applied in several flows with reasonable success. However, there are several outstanding problems that need to be addressed before LES can fulfill its promise as a tool for turbulence prediction in engineering flows. The most serious problems limiting the usefulness of LES is the representation of turbulence near walls and other strong inhomogeneities and the dependence of models on the filter and/or numerical discretization. The optimal LES formulation provides a rigorous framework in which to address these issues and to develop and analyze LES models and simulations. Optimal LES modeling has been found to produce accurate LES simulations when based on reliable statistical information, so the primary thrust of the current research is to reduce or eliminate the need for empirical statistical input through theory and modeling of turbulence statistics. When small-scale isotropy is a valid assumption, the Kolmogorov theory and isotropy can provide much information. However, when inhomogeneity and anisotropy are strong, or the Reynolds number is not too large, more information will be required, and models for this are being developed, particularly for near-wall turbulence. Theoretical models for the turbulence multi-point correlations allow optimal LES models to be implemented relatively simply in production CFD codes, and preliminary implementations in FDL3DI at AFRL have been pursued.

41DTIC ADA564430: Development Of Improved Molecular Excitation Models
By Defense Technical Information Center
With respect to our modeling of condensation in supersonic expansions, we have used molecular dynamics to derive condensation based models for DSMC for non-Lennard Jonesian gases such as water, carbon dioxide, and ammonia, common combustion products found in rocket plumes. The challenge was to incorporate charge polarization terms in the cluster potential, develop and automate a strategy for recognizing the formation of clusters in an MD study of a supersonic expansion, and utilize a parallel MD code to deduce the important cluster formation mechanism in a large scale MD simulation of a jet expansion. In addition, we have extended our research to model heterogeneous condensation, a necessary feature for realistic plume flows which often include multiple species types. The developed MD models have been incorporated into the DSMC simulations, a process that takes the fine-grained simulation results and transfers them to the propulsion/nozzle system level. DSMC simulations have been compared with published Raman and Rayleigh scattering laboratory measurements, high lighting the need for this data for more molecular systems.

42DTIC ADA270453: Development Of The Microstructure Based Stochastic Life Prediction Models
By Defense Technical Information Center
This study explores the methods of incorporating material microstructural characteristics into the fatigue life prediction models based on the results of the microstructural characterizations and fatigue testing of aluminum 7050-T7451 plate alloys. The emphases in the microstructural characterization part of the program are on the identification of the fatigue-relevant microstructural features and on the characterizations of the microstructural gradients. The characterizations are carried out using both the standard and novel techniques such as tessellation, fractal and modified linear intercept methods. The key measurement is determination of the size distributions of the fatigue crack initiating flaws -- they are assumed equal to the extreme value distributions of the micropore and/or constituent particle size distributions measured on the metallographic sections.

43DTIC ADA434679: Investigating Models Of Social Development Using A Humanoid Robot
By Defense Technical Information Center
The evaluation of models of social and behavioral development is difficult in natural settings; ethical concerns, difficulties in implementing experimental procedures, and difficulties in isolating hypothesized variables make experimental evidence difficult or impossible to obtain. We propose the use of human-like robots as a testbed for the evaluation of models of human social development. Robotic implementation of human social models allows for unique opportunities to evaluate those models. In this paper, we review some of the implications of this proposal by examining a case study of an on-going project to implement an existing model of one aspect human social development, the development of joint attention behaviors.

46Appraising Capability Models For Conceptualising The Development Of Competencies Amongst Students Of The Higher Technical Teachers' Training College (HTTTC), Kumba
By Massa Ernest Massa
Notions of competency have dominated the teacher education literature, and have underpinned Competency-Based Training in educational leadership at all levels of education and training. The emergence of counter-narratives underpinned by the capability movement, have as yet had minimal impact on practice in teacher education. New discourses in educational theory and practice which are founded on non-linear approaches to learning and teaching provide added impetus to engage in the competency/capability debate, and re-examine our approaches to educational leadership. This paper explores complexity theories and demonstrates how complexity's pedagogical implications can lead to new models for understanding educational leadership learning and teaching. A new model for conceptualizing end-user educational leadership is presented that was derived from a three-year action research initiative with pre-service teachers. The premise of the study assumed that there is no relationship between the capability approach and the development of students' competencies in the Higher Technical Teachers' Training College Kumba. The study had as specific objectives to identify the teaching and learning strategies used, examine the use of the Capability approach in the development of competencies of students and the challenges faced by both the students and teachers in the implementation of the capability approach in developing competencies in the Higher Technical Teachers' Training College Kumba. The sample constituted 190 questionnaires administered to the students of HTTTC Kumba and 5 interviewed conducted with teachers of the school. The findings of this study showed that teachers of the HTTTC Kumba highly implement group discussion, brainstorming and demonstration whereas role play and lecture/presentation methods are only implemented to a lesser extent. Findings also showed that the students have the freedom and are guided towards what they are best at doing but for the fact that resources are insufficient to facilitate the implementation of this approach. The spearman rank correlation was 0.586 indicating a strong positive relationship between the use of the capability approach and the development of students' competences in HTTTC Kumba. The study concluded in favour of Sen's findings that technical education today is the most valuable means by which the quality of a country's development is determined. This is because capable people are more likely to be able to deal effectively with the turbulent environment in which they live by possessing this "all round' capacity. The important practical point stressed here however was that the development of core competences by students could lead, as a secondary effect, to a more sustainable and democratic society. As such, inferences was drawn that for Cameroon to become Emerging by the year 2035 competency development in Technical Education need to be given adequate attention. 47ERIC ED048134: AACTE Project To Disseminate Knowledge And Understanding Of The Comprehensive Elementary Teacher Education Models Developed With The Support Of The National Center For Educational Research And Development, United States Office Of Education. Final Report.
By ERIC
The American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE) developed a dissemination project to inform teacher educators of the ten Comprehensive Teacher Education Models. The main activities included the organization and direction of five regional workshops, publication of newsletters, distribution of model summaries, discussions of the models at the 1970 AACTE annual meeting, publication of project papers in book form, and production of a mediated package to supplement workshop presentations. The development of the project is described, including the procedures used in planning and conducting the workshops. The workshop activities are briefly reviewed with summaries of the keynote speeches. A general evaluation indicates that the teacher education community is becoming increasingly aware of program model development efforts and that the project has encouraged continued analysis of the models. There are three appendixes: 1) a guide to the papers and other media prepared for the workshops, with objectives; 2) guidelines on how to plan a workshop; and 3) an example of a workshop evaluation form.
