2ERIC EJ1065831: Implementing "Science Across The World" In A Resource-Based Learning Activity Regarding Sustainable Development Issues

By

The rapid development of science and technology has become a global issue in modern society, since it will not only bring conveniences into people's lives but it may also cause extensive environmental damage to the planet earth. Therefore, it is important to propagate the notion of Science Technology and Society (STS) and the awareness of sustainable development. The purpose of this study was to implement a Science across the World (SAW) activity in a resource-based environment regarding two sustainable issues, "global warming" and "renewable energy," and to investigate students' responses to this SAW activity. Seventy-eight non-science major freshmen participated in the study. The results from participants' questionnaires indicated that students felt most interested in exploring ideas locally via Internet, and exchanging information with students from other countries globally. Through this activity, students also presented the positive results of the acquisition of knowledge, and they felt that their inquiry abilities got improved. Implications of STS teaching on students' learning and attitudes are discussed.

A new UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) publication, "Promoting lifelong learning for all: The experiences of Ethiopia, Kenya, Namibia, Rwanda and the United Republic of Tanzania," marks a significant outcome of a project to promote lifelong learning for all in selected African countries. The report highlights the progress made by the five aforementioned countries since 2014, when UIL proposed 10 recommendations for developing lifelong learning strategies for sustainable development in a document entitled Key issues and policy considerations in promoting lifelong learning in selected African countries: Ethiopia, Kenya, Namibia, Rwanda and Tanzania. For the current publication, extensive desk research and consultations with the participating countries provide a comprehensive assessment of the present types of lifelong learning policies, strategies and programmes. More specifically, the new publication looks at the origin, essence and benefits of lifelong learning and comprises a compendium of good practices in promoting lifelong learning for all in the five countries. Reflections on how progress can be accelerated in the region as well as potential collaboration opportunities with UIL are also outlined. Importantly, the publication demonstrates the significance of lifelong learning for the African region and advocates its wider adoption in light of the global agenda for sustainable development. The five African countries have made notable progress in implementing lifelong learning as per UIL's 2014 recommendations and their various initiatives embrace Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, which urges countries to 'ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all'. UIL hopes that the information contained in the report will contribute to the capacity of policy-makers and researchers to develop national policies and strategies to establish lifelong learning systems in Africa.

12Processed Food Companies Are Implementing Green Marketing Strategies Can CSR And Sustainable Development Be Used In Marketing

By

The four Ps of the marketing mix is integrated with the environment as part of green marketing. This idea is extensively explored at various levels and in a variety of places. The message of environmental protection is spread among members of society and the community as it is addressed more frequently. This in turn motivates people to adopt the practice of protecting the environment in their daily activities and consumption. Marketers and producers must be aware of changes in consumer consumption patterns and adapt their marketing strategies accordingly. It is essential that marketers include the idea of being green in their marketing campaigns. The researchers objectives are to analyze the strategies, policies, and practices of green marketing, evaluate its application, and investigate the impact of the idea on processed food companies in the Indian market. Seven well known processed food firms that promote community, society, and environmental protection through CSR and SD activities were the subject of an exploratory study. The results show that processed food manufacturers sell their goods based on features including taste, quality, and price. Based on Ginsberg and Blooms Green Marketing Strategy Matrix and Porters Generic Competitive Strategy, an analysis was done. It can be said that all seven of the processed food businesses examined in the study are Shaded Green, employing unique business models and taking part in sustainable and CSR initiatives. These actions are not, however, included in the marketing plans that aim to influence consumers. By integrating SD and CSR initiatives and creating strong product brands, green marketing strategies must be put into practice.
