Accurate fault classification and precise fault distance estimation play a critical role in reliable, stable and optimal operation of electrical power systems. Especially Dual Circuit Extra High Voltage Transmission Line (DCEHVTL) fault diagnosis is a challenging task using conventional algorithms. Early fault recognition is crucial for DCEHVTL performance. Due to its effectiveness in classification and forecasting, the interpretable Mamdani Fuzzy Inference System (MFIS) is more suitable. Haar wavelet is efficient in any signal behavior evaluation. Therefore, this paper proposed a robust and intelligent Fuzzy Inference System Professional (FisPro) based interpretable MFIS with Haar wavelets transform for fault classification and fault distance estimation in DCEHVTL using single-side data. The dual circuit three-phase currents of two cycles are recorded from DCEHVTL. Haar wavelet transforms are utilized to estimate the behaviour and characteristics of the current signals in terms of high-frequency components. The captured fault currents from the DCEHVTL single side are used as inputs for the hierarchical MFIS framework. Here, the fault classification is followed by the faulty distance estimation in MFIS. The test results support the MFIS consistency under extensive changes in fault factors. Moreover, the extensive performance comparison study with the state of art fault diagnosis methods reiterates the FisPro based MFIS effectiveness in successful fault diagnosis. The obtained results indicate that MFIS has a fast processing time (in 1ms), high accuracy (above 99.8%), less fault location error (Within 0.0024%) and is useful for studying the system stability in the electricity field. The MFIS is proven to be successful for the fault diagnosis without any communication channel between the source and receiving end.

The higher complexity of a six phase transmission system (SPTS) construction and the large number of possible faults makes the protection task challenging. Moreover, the reverse & forward path faults in SPTS cannot be detected by traditional relay as it becomes under-reach. In this paper, a support vector machine (SVM) method including Haar wavelets for SPTS fault section identification and fault classification is focused. The positive-sequence component phase angle and currents at middle two buses are used to formulate a suggested method. Feasibility of suggested SVM is tested with a 138 kV, 300 km, 60 Hz, SPTS in MATLAB based Simulink platform. Several major parameters including far end and near end location conditions are taken to investigate the reach setting and accuracy of proposed SVM. This relaying method can detect the existence of fault in reverse & forward path in 1 ms time.

This project focused on investigating the potential of on-line learning 'hardware-based' neural approximators and controllers to provide fault tolerance capabilities following sensor and actuator failures. Following a phase of simulation studies a set of selected architectures for neural estimators and neural controllers were flown on a semi-scale YF-22 aircraft model. The YF-22 model was designed, built, and flown at research facilities at West Virginia University. Additionally, a customized electronic payload featuring these fault tolerant schemes was designed, built, tested and interfaced with the YF-22 flight control system. A series of 33 flight tests were conducted with the aircraft; the flight data confirmed the potential of neural estimators and controllers for fault tolerance purposes. Another research objective was to start addressing system requirements leading to the problem of software validation and verification for this new class of algorithms for fault tolerant flight control systems.

This paper argues that the Tertiary and Further Education system in Australia has responded to globalisation in two paradoxical ways; the pro-active response of internationalisation and the reactive response of competency-based training. Competency-based training currently has a strangle hold on the TAFE sector and education has become a process of domestication and reproduction rather than liberation and inspiration. Using Bateson's systems model and Foucault's notions of discourse, it is argued that direct resistance to competency-based training is not an effective strategy and may even prove counterproductive. Given that internationalisation is a discourse that is allowed in TAFE in the current context, it is argued that educators can use this as a tool to critique competency-based training and gain space for education that is liberatory and constructive.

Systematic engineering of atomic-scale low-dimensional defects in two-dimensional nanomaterials is a promising way to modulate the electronic properties of these nanomaterials. Defects at interfaces such as grain boundaries and line defects can often be detrimental to technologically important nanodevice operations and thus a fundamental understanding of how such one-dimensional defects may have an influence on its physio-chemical properties is pivotal to optimizing their device performance. Of late, two-dimensional phosphorene has attracted much attention due to its high carrier mobility and good mechanical flexibility. In this study, using density-functional theory, we investigate the temperature-dependent energetics and electronic structure of a single-layered phosphorene with various fault line defects. We have generated different line defect models based on a fault method, rather than the conventional rotation method. This has allowed us to study and identify new low-energy line defects, and we show how these low-energy line defects could well modulate the electronic band gap energies of single-layered two-dimensional phosphorene -- offering a range of metallic to semiconducting properties in these newly proposed low-energy line defects in phosphorene.

 In order to maintain the quality power supply and reliable operation of power delivery service to the utilities with minimum interruption, it is extremely important that the transmission line faults need to be detected and located in a reliable and accurate manner. To meet these requirement an approach based on discrete wavelet transform using neural network (NN) is proposed to estimate the fault location of the three phase transmission line and the results have been compared with the conventional method (measuring the sequence components of voltage and current). The proposed approach is based on the measurements of the three phase fault current signals at one terminal of the transmission line (at relaying point), created for different fault operating conditions using MATLAB software. To accomplish the task, features of these measured signals are extracted in terms of summation of ninth level detail coefficients using multi-resolution analysis (MRA) based on discrete wavelet transform, selecting daubechies4 (db4) as mother wavelet at 100 kHz sampling frequency. These features are then used as an input to train and test the feed forward neural network (FFNN) to provide fault location from the relaying point on the transmission line. The NN estimates the location of the fault with a significant reduction in percentage error compared to the conventional method of fault location for wide variations of operating condition. Hence, the use of multi-resolution analysis (MRA) based on discrete wavelet transform in combination with NN is quite promising for fault location estimation of the transmission line.

The proposed scheme performs four functions which are the fault detection, fault classification, distinguishing among the temporary and the permanent faults, and detection of the arc extinguish instant. The presented algorithm only uses the measured current at one terminal reducing the required cost. Also, it can mitigate the error resulting from the load variations via updating the presetting value. Consequently, it does not need retesting under changing the transmission system configurations. The proposed scheme is deduced in the spectral domain and depended on the application of the WPT. The db6 wavelet packet is used for decomposing the faulty phase current waveform (level 7) to get the energy coefficients. The presented algorithm is assessed under various fault conditions such as fault distances, inception angles, and faults nature via simulating different secondary arc models via using ATP/EMTP. The obtained results are investigated and evaluated.

This paper proposed a new algorithm for fault location and classification using wavelet based on Clarke’s transformation to obtain the fault current. This novel method of fault current approach is studied by comparing the use of the glide path of the fault voltage. The current alpha and beta (Current Mode) were used to transform the signal using discrete wavelet transform (DWT). The fault location was determined by using the Clarke’s transformation, and then turned into a wavelet, which was very precise and thorough. The most accurate was the mother wavelet Db4 which had the fastest time and smallest error detection when compared with the other wavelet mothers. In this study, the Clarke’s transformation is also compared with the Karenbauer’s, which has produced results with similar error percentage. The simulation results using PSCAD / EMTDC software showed that the proposed algorithm could distinguish internal and external faults to get the current signal in the transformation of a signal fault.

The aim of this quasi-experimental within-subject study is to determine the optimal positioning of this simulation in relation to the practical discovery-based practical workshop on the packaging line provided by the school. Specifically, the focus is on the effect of sequence: is it more beneficial to expose students to the simulation before or after the practical workshop on the packaging line?
