A school teaches its students how to detect leaks on a packaging line using a VR simulation. The aim of this quasi-experimental within-subject study is to determine the optimal positioning of this simulation in relation to the practical discovery-based practical workshop on the packaging line provided by the school. Specifically, the focus is on the effect of sequence: is it more beneficial to expose students to the simulation before or after the practical workshop on the packaging line?

Systematic engineering of atomic-scale low-dimensional defects in two-dimensional nanomaterials is a promising way to modulate the electronic properties of these nanomaterials. Defects at interfaces such as grain boundaries and line defects can often be detrimental to technologically important nanodevice operations and thus a fundamental understanding of how such one-dimensional defects may have an influence on its physio-chemical properties is pivotal to optimizing their device performance. Of late, two-dimensional phosphorene has attracted much attention due to its high carrier mobility and good mechanical flexibility. In this study, using density-functional theory, we investigate the temperature-dependent energetics and electronic structure of a single-layered phosphorene with various fault line defects. We have generated different line defect models based on a fault method, rather than the conventional rotation method. This has allowed us to study and identify new low-energy line defects, and we show how these low-energy line defects could well modulate the electronic band gap energies of single-layered two-dimensional phosphorene -- offering a range of metallic to semiconducting properties in these newly proposed low-energy line defects in phosphorene.

The author has identified the following significant results. Geologic reconnaissance guided by analysis of ERTS-1 and Apollo-9 satellite imagery and intermediate scale photography from X-15 and U-2 aircraft has confirmed the presence of a major fault zone along the California-Nevada state line, between 35 deg 30 min and 36 deg 30 min north latitude. The name Pahrump Fault Zone has been suggested for this feature after the valley in which it is best exposed. Field reconnaissance has indicated the existence of previously unreported faults cutting bedrock along range fronts, and displacing Tertiary and Quaternary basin sediments. Gravity data support the interpretation of regional structural discontinuity along this zone. Individual fault traces within the Pahrump Fault Zone form generally left-stepping en echelon patterns. These fault patterns, the apparent offset of a Laramide age thrust fault, and possible drag folding along a major fault break suggest a component of right lateral displacement. The trend and postulated movement of the Pahrump Fault Zone are similar to the adjacent Las Vegas Shear Zone and Death Valley-Furnace Creek Faults, which are parts of a regional strike slip system in the southern Basin-Range Province.

In this way, we can protect the electrical devices and equipment from being damaged by residual current resulting from the arc due to ground fault, which increases the temperature of conductors which are to a breakdown of insulators and damaging them. Ground fault current equals three times the actual current, and its effect depends on two types of variables which are the first: the number of Peterson coils (which specify the inductance value and compensated) and second: the period time of extinguishing electric are in the ground fault. we obtain, by experimental in the lab where it using the servo motor to control the number of Peterson coils which in turn specify the variable and invariable inductance. We have obtained optimal results for the value of ground-fault current, detect the ground fault and treat it without effect of network load and without power cut off for consumer.

This work aims to design an automated and effective fault identification and position system for all overhead power transmission network networks using all current fault indicator technologies, machine learning methods, and commercially tested communication technology to easily and reliably pin a transmission system's flawed point parts. Smart transmission lines have played a decisive role in developing human protection and preventing current wastage. The higher complexity of a six phase transmission system (SPTS) construction and the large number of possible faults makes the protection task challenging. Moreover, the reverse & forward path faults in SPTS cannot be detected by traditional relay as it becomes under-reach. In this paper, a support vector machine (SVM) method including Haar wavelets for SPTS fault section identification and fault classification is focused. The positive-sequence component phase angle and currents at middle two buses are used to formulate a suggested method. Feasibility of suggested SVM is tested with a 138 kV, 300 km, 60 Hz, SPTS in MATLAB based Simulink platform. Several major parameters including far end and near end location conditions are taken to investigate the reach setting and accuracy of proposed SVM. This relaying method can detect the existence of fault in reverse & forward path in 1 ms time.

This paper presents the formal verification of a new protocol for online distributed diagnosis for the SPIDER family of architectures. An instance of the Scalable Processor-Independent Design for Electromagnetic Resilience (SPIDER) architecture consists of a collection of processing elements communicating over a Reliable Optical Bus (ROBUS). The ROBUS is a specialized fault-tolerant device that guarantees Interactive Consistency, Distributed Diagnosis (Group Membership), and Synchronization in the presence of a bounded number of physical faults. Formal verification of the original SPIDER diagnosis protocol provided a detailed understanding that led to the discovery of a significantly more efficient protocol. The original protocol was adapted from the formally verified protocol used in the MAFT architecture. It required O(N) message exchanges per defendant to correctly diagnose failures in a system with N nodes. The new protocol achieves the same diagnostic fidelity, but only requires O(1) exchanges per defendant. This paper presents this new diagnosis protocol and a formal proof of its correctness using PVS.

As digital electronic systems have become more complex, the importance of techniques for detecting faults using internal system resources has increased. Viable alternatives to heretofore ad hoc built-in-test approaches are described in this report. The following fault detection techniques and assessment methods are discussed: (1) Sample Fault Monitoring, (2) Programmable Cellular Arrays with Hardware Encoded Built-In-Test Facilties, (3) Mathematical Models for the Design and Analysis of On-Line Built-In-Testing, (4) A Flexible Fault-Tolerant Multiprocessor Architecture for Video Graphics.
