There are consistent statistics demonstrating the decreased rate of reoffending or recidivism where Aboriginal offenders have gone through Aboriginal programming including healing lodges, ceremonies and opportunities to commune with Elders. Just this past winter, Howard Sapers, Correctional Investigator for Correctional Services of Canada underlined these facts. The advent of the Gorbachev era invites comparision with the Khrushchev era years ago. Both leaders were confronted by major domestic and foreign policy problems, dilemmas, and choices. The similarities are striking: the struggle for power at a time mounting economic and political dilemmas; the quest for rationalization of Soviet-East European economic relationships, subject to Moscow's continued control; the need to improve relations with the United States; the readiness to pursue Soviet objectives in the Third World irrespective of their adverse consequences for Soviet-American relations. The differences are significant and intensify Gorbachev's problem: Gorbachev's USSR is far stronger than Khrushchev's and is a credible nuclear power; Gorbachev has many more options in the Third World; the Far East is a major foreign policy issue; and U.S. influence in the international system is less in the 1980s than it was in the 1950s. The thrust of this analysis is toward essential continuity in the decade or so ahead. The Kremlin is confronted with growing domestic problems, but in foreign policy the following aims seem likely: preservation of the imperial system in Eastern Europe; improved relations with the United States, including arms control agreements if possible; normalization of ties with China and Japan; and competitive rivalry with the United States in the Third World.

This research project explores how internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy (ICBT) can serve as a structured learning environment for junior doctors undergoing psychotherapy training during their specialization in child and adolescent psychiatry. The study is motivated by the growing use of ICBT as an effective and scalable treatment format for children and adolescents with a range of mental health conditions, including functional gastrointestinal disorders. In the ICBT format, children and their parents engage with a structured online program consisting of psychoeducation, therapeutic exercises, and reflection tasks. Therapeutic support is delivered asynchronously through written feedback from a clinician. This structure not only allows for flexible and accessible care but may also provide unique learning opportunities for early-career professionals. The written and asynchronous nature of the work enables junior doctors to formulate responses carefully and receive supervision before sending feedback, creating a space for reflection, skill-building, and gradual development of therapeutic identity. The purpose of the project is to investigate the experiences of junior doctors who have acted as therapists in a supervised ICBT training program for children and adolescents with functional gastrointestinal disorders. The study will focus on how the format supports the development of both specific CBT competencies and more general therapeutic skills such as self-efficacy and reflective practice. Using a qualitative methodology, the project involves semi-structured interviews with junior doctors who have completed a full ICBT course as part of their training. The interviews will explore their perceived learning outcomes, challenges and benefits of the ICBT format, their experience of engaging with families in a digital therapeutic space, and the role of supervision. Data will be analyzed using thematic analysis. The expected outcomes include a nuanced understanding of how ICBT can contribute to psychotherapy education for junior doctors. Insights from the study may inform the integration of ICBT into future training programs and help optimize the use of digital interventions for both clinical and educational purposes.

Consider the problem of visually finding an object in a mostly unknown space witha mobile robot. It is clear that all possible views and images cannot be examinedin a practical system. Visual attention is a complex phenomenon; we view it asa mechanism that optimizes the search processes inherent in vision. Here, we describea particular example of a practical robotic vision system that employs someof these attentive processes. We cast this as an optimization problem, i.e., optimizingthe probability of finding the target given a fixed cost limit in terms of totalnumber of robotic actions required to find the visual target. Due to the inherentintractability of this problem, we present an approximate solution and investigateits performance and properties. A systematic investigation has been conducted to study the effects of ambient flow conditions (i.e. pressure and velocity) on supercritical droplet gasification in a forced-convective environment. The model is based on the time-dependent conservation equations in axisymmetric coordinates, and accommodates thermodynamic nonidealities and transport anomalies. In addition, an efficient scheme for evaluating thermophysical properties over the entire range of fluid thermodynamic states is established. The analysis allows a thorough examination of droplet behavior during its entire lifetime, including transient gasification, dynamic deformation, and shattering. A parametric study of droplet vaporization rate in terms of ambient pressure and Reynolds number is also conducted.

The Westridge Middle School Curriculum and Community Night is an annual event designed to introduce students and parents to potential employers in the Central Florida area. NASA participated in the event in 2017, and has been asked to come back for the 2018 event on January 25. We will be demonstrating our Microsoft Hololens Virtual Rovers project, and the Virtual Environment Computational Training Resource (VECTR) virtual reality tool.

The external (surface incident) charged particle radiation, predicted for the ST satellite at the three different mission altitudes, was determined in two ways: (1) by orbital flux-integration and (2) by geographical instantaneous flux-mapping. The latest standard models of the environment were used in this effort. Magnetic field definitions for three nominal circular trajectories and for the geographic mapping positions were obtained from a current field model. Spatial and temporal variations or conditions affecting the static environment models were considered and accounted for, wherever possible. Limited shielding and dose evaluations were performed for a simple geometry. Results, given in tabular and graphical form, are analyzed, explained, and discussed. Conclusions are included.

During the Apollo program the effects of lunar dust on thermal control surfaces was found to be more significant than anticipated, with several systems overheating due to deposition of dust on them. In an effort to reduce risk to future missions, a series of tests has been initiated to characterize the effects of dust on these surfaces, and then to develop technologies to mitigate that risk. Given the variations in albedo across the lunar surface, one variable that may be important is the darkness of the lunar dust, and this study was undertaken to address that concern. Three thermal control surfaces, AZ-93 white paint and AgFEP and AlFEP second surface mirrors were dusted with three different lunar dust simulants in a simulated lunar environment, and their integrated solar absorptance ( ) and thermal emittance ( ) values determined experimentally. The three simulants included JSC-1AF, a darker mare simulant, NU-LHT-1D, a light highlands simulant, and 1:1 mixture of the two. The response of AZ-93 was found to be slightly more pronounced than that of AgFEP. The increased with fractional dust coverage in both types of samples by a factor of 1.7 to 3.3, depending on the type of thermal control surface and the type of dust. The of the AZ-93 decreased by about 10 percent when fully covered by dust, while that of AgFEP increased by about 10 percent. It was found that / varied by more than a factor of two depending on the thermal control surface and the darkness of the dust. Given that the darkest simulant used in this study may be lighter than the darkest dust that could be encountered on the lunar surface, it becomes apparent that the performance degradation of thermal control surfaces due to dust on the Moon will be strongly dependent on the and of the dust in the specific locality

An integrated operating environment was designed to incorporate three general purpose robots, sensors, and end effectors, including Force/Torque Sensors, Tactile Array sensors, Tactile force sensors, and Force-sensing grippers. The design and implementation of: (1) the teleoperation of a general purpose PUMA robot; (2) an integrated sensor hardware/software system; (3) the force-sensing gripper control; (4) the host computer system for dual Robotic Research arms; and (5) the Ethernet integration are described.
