A review was conducted to assess early initiatives by Comprehensive Employment and Training Act (CETA) prime sponsors in knowledge development under the Youth Employment and Demonstration Projects Act of 1977. The review was based on two waves of site visits to a total of 19 prime sponsors, in May-June, 1979, and in November-January, 1979-80. From the data gathered, most of the knowledge development activity was found to be at an early stage of development, or else it was not developed at all. In many cases, the evaluators found that sponsors lacked any clear conception of what knowledge development was supposed to be; activity of one sort or another was aimed at satisfying what seemed to both regional staff and state and local prime sponsors an extremely nebulous goal. Despite limited progress, however, the average prime sponsor was found to be interested in learning more about its youth programs so that they could be improved, and would welcome advice, examples, and technical assistance in any form in which it might be offered. It was recommended that (1) some firm definition of knowledge development as applicable to youth programs at the state and local level be provided; (2) that prime sponsors be given help in designing evaluation plans that are within the realm of accomplishment and that may reasonably be expected to provide knowledge useful to them; and (3) that technical assistance be provided to the prime sponsors. The purposes of this study were (1) to describe the biology learning such as lesson plans, teaching materials, media and worksheets for the tenth grade of High School on the topic of Biodiversity and Basic Classification, Ecosystems and Environment Issues based on local wisdom of Timorese; (2) to analyze the improvement of the environmental knowledge of students after being given instructional materials, media and worksheets for the tenth grade of High School on the topic of Biodiversity and Basic Classification, Ecosystems and Environmental Problems of East-based local knowledge; (3) to analyze the changes of students attitude after being given the biology learning material such as lesson plans, teaching materials, media and worksheets for the tenth grade of High School on the topic of Biodiversity and Basic Classification, Ecosystems and Environment Issues based on local wisdom of Timorese. This study uses Research and Development (R & D) methods which consists of three phases of research. The first step is the analysis of necessity, the second step is designing and validating the learning product, the third step is the experiment to see the effectiveness of the material in improving the environment knowledge and attitude of students in preservation of the environment. The result shows that: (1) The products such as Lesson Plan (RPP), grade tenth Biology textbook with Local Indigenous of Timorese for teachers and students, Student worksheet (LKS), learning media such as a micro director for Biodiversity materials, power point for each Biodiversity, Ecology and Environmental Science materials, Biodiversity map media and Puzzles ecosystem after being validated and tested-piloted turns valid and practical; (2) The results of the experiment in tenth grade of Bio 2 SMAN 1 Kupang Barat shows that that there is a difference in student achievement before and after the use of learning material are developed; (3) The experimental results for the attitude of the students in the tenth grade of SMAN 1 Kupang shows that there is a difference in students' attitudes before and after the use of learning developed material.

The role of professional and local-personal networks as a source of knowledge development in the new knowledge-based economy was examined in a 15-month study that focuses on people working in the multimedia industry in Montreal, Quebec. The study focused on the modes of exchange and learning, collaborative work, and management and development of knowledge within firms through exchanges between workers. Of the approximately 50 firms contacted, 18 agreed to participate in the study. Sixty open-ended interviews (48 with workers and 12 with employers or managers) were conducted. The interview responses were analyzed within the contexts of the concepts of collective competence and communities of practice. The interviews established that collaborative work, teamwork, and knowledge sharing have become normal in multimedia firms. The perceptions and values of the workers interviewed appeared to counter those of the traditional tayloristic vision of work, which assumes a strong division of labor and little if any exchange between workers. Most interviewees were ready to share information, often without expecting anything in return, and most enjoyed teamwork. Many firms used capacity to work in a group as a selection criterion when hiring employees. The managers reported looking for complementary specializations within teams. (Contains 46 references.) This volume is one of the products of the knowledge development effort implemented under the mandate of the Youth Employment and Demonstration Projects Act of 1977. It is a report of an assessment study designed to determine the status and results of the implementation of mixed income experiments at 47 Comprehensive Employment and Training Act (CETA) sites during fiscal years 1978 and 1979. Mixed income experiments are designed to test whether and/or to what extent income-eligible youth benefit from working with and being trained alongside nonincome-eligible youth, as opposed to receiving the same services in projects where all participants are income eligible. Data were collected from program plans and project reports, telephone inquiries to prime sponsors, and site visits. The conduct of these mixed income experiments and their individual findings vary significantly, making any aggregate analysis difficult. Each of the tests in varying degrees failed to meet accepted practices in research methodology, and therefore the results of this knowledge effort are inconclusive. From what operational data were gathered, however, no conclusive evidence of benefit to youth participants was shown, and no change in low-income guidelines for participants is warranted. The mixed income hypothesis, however, does warrant further investigation. It is recommended that future experimental efforts follow stricter research guidelines.
