14Structures For Data Processing In The Quantum Regime

By

We present a novel scheme for data processing which is well-suited for implementation at the nanometer scale. The logic circuits comprise two-state cellular units which are driven by externally applied updates, in contrast to earlier proposals which relied on ground-state relaxation. The present structures can simultaneously process many inputs and are suitable for conventional, dissipative computing in addition to classical reversible computing and quantum computing.

15NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS) 20040111308: Hyper-X Hot Structures Comparison Of Thermal Analysis And Flight Data

By

The Hyper-X (X-43A) program is a flight experiment to demonstrate scramjet performance and operability under controlled powered free-flight conditions at Mach 7 and 10. The Mach 7 flight was successfully completed on March 27, 2004. Thermocouple instrumentation in the hot structures (nose, horizontal tail, and vertical tail) recorded the flight thermal response of these components. Preflight thermal analysis was performed for design and risk assessment purposes. This paper will present a comparison of the preflight thermal analysis and the recorded flight data.

19Microsoft Research Video 142901: Automatic Program Analysis For Overlaid Data Structures

By

We call a data structure overlaid, if a node in the structure includes links for multiple data structures and these links are intended to be used at the same time. These overlaid data structures are frequently used in systems code, in order to impose multiple types of indexing structures over the same set of nodes. For instance, the deadline IO scheduler of Linux has a queue whose node has links for a doubly-linked list as well as those for a red-black tree. The doubly-linked list here is used to record the order that nodes are inserted in the queue, and the red-black tree provides an efficient indexing structure on the sector fields of the nodes. In this talk, I will describe an automatic program analysis for these overlaid data structures. I will focus on two main issues in designing such an analysis: how to represent overlaid data structures effectively and how to build an efficient program analyser, which is precise enough to prove the memory safety of realistic examples, such as the Linux deadline IO scheduler. During the talk, I will explain how we addressed the first issue by the combination of standard classical conjunction and separating conjunction from separation logic. Also, I will describe how we used a meta-analysis and the dynamic insertion of ghost instructions for solving the second issue. This is a joint work with Oukseh Lee and Rasmus Petersen. ©2010 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

22NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS) 19820021634: System Data Communication Structures For Active-control Transport Aircraft, Volume 1

By

Candidate data communication techniques are identified, including dedicated links, local buses, broadcast buses, multiplex buses, and mesh networks. The design methodology for mesh networks is then discussed, including network topology and node architecture. Several concepts of power distribution are reviewed, including current limiting and mesh networks for power. The technology issues of packaging, transmission media, and lightning are addressed, and, finally, the analysis tools developed to aid in the communication design process are described. There are special tools to analyze the reliability and connectivity of networks and more general reliability analysis tools for all types of systems.

25ERIC EJ816483: Effectiveness Of Multimedia In Learning And Teaching Data Structures Online

Online electronic education is now being widely accepted as a major viable component of higher education. This is fuelled by the emergence of worldwide information and computer communications technologies. However, online education is not being adopted in science and engineering subjects as widely as in other fields because of the idiosyncrasies of some science and engineering-based courses. For online engineering education to be broadly accepted and utilized, the quality of online courses must, amongst other things, be comparable to or better than those of traditional face-to-face classroom education. This paper explores and reports on the importance of creating multimedia-rich course content and the important role that animations can play in creating a successful online learning experience. Results of our study on an online data structures course over five years offerings show that students consistently perform much better in questions requiring application of material taught in carefully animated algorithms. These results should carry over to other educational environments. (Contains 1 table.)

37Rina Panigrahy: What Could Be The Data Structures Of The Mind?

Slides for this talk . Talk by Rina Panigrahy of Google.  Given to the Redwood Center for Theoretical Neuroscience at UC Berkeley. Abstract: What is a reasonable architecture for an algorithmic view of the mind? Is it akin to a single giant deep network or is it more like several small modules connected by some graph? How is memory captured — is it some lookup table? Take a simple event like meeting someone over coffee — how would your mind remember who the person was, what was discussed? Such information needs to be organized and indexed in a way so that it can be quickly accessed in future if say I met the same person again. We propose that information related to such events and inputs is stored as a sketch (a compact representation that approximately reconstructs the input) — the sketching mechanism is based on random subspace embedding and is able to approximately reconstruct the original input and its basic statistics up to some level of accuracy. The sketching mechanism implicitly enables different high level object oriented abstractions such as classes, attributes, references, type-information, modules into a knowledge graph without explicitly incorporating such ideas into the mechanism operations. We will see how ideas based on sketching can lead to an initial version of a very simplified architecture for an algorithmic view of the mind. We will see how a simplified implementation of Neural Memory based storing sketches using Locality sensitive hashing can be used to almost double the capacity of BERT with a small amount of Neural Memory while adding

A universal graph for a class of graphs T is a graph G such that every graph in T can be embedded in G with worst-case (average case) loss of proximity bounded by a fixed constant. A universal graph can be interpreted as a universal data structure. Upper and lower bounds are derived for a variety of restrictions on T and G. (Author)

42DTIC AD0740581: A Relational Model Of Data For The Determination Of Optimum Computer Storage Structures

By

The objective of this research is the development of a rigorous quantitative method for the automatic design of optimal computer memory representations of data. A relational model of data structure is defined from which a logical ordering of data is obtained. A decision model is then developed for the specification of storage structures which can represent arbitrary data structures. Finally, a procedure is developed which determines storage structures which can represent a given data structure for which time and storage costs satisfy certain optimal conditions. A problem solution is given which demonstrates the feasibility and the effectiveness of the techniques developed.

43DTIC AD0706706: A SURVEY OF DATA STRUCTURES FOR INTERACTIVE GRAPHICS

By

The paper compares methods of organizing data within a computer to permit many interactive computer graphic applications. A data structure is a collection of blocks of machine words (beads) within a subset of the computer's memory. A program for processing such a structure must be able to create and destroy beads and to reference data items (bit strings). The first ability is provided by LEAP'S associative-memory storage allocation system. The referencing ability furnished by several procedural languages enables the programmer to design structures. However, several predesigned ring structures are useful in interactive graphics-e.g., Sketchpad or CORAL.

44DTIC ADA000500: Automatic Coding: Choice Of Data Structures

By

A system is described which automatically chooses representations for high-level information structures, such as sets, sequences, and relations for a given computer program. Representations are picked from a fixed library of low- level data structures including linked-lists, binary trees and hash tables. The representations are chosen by attempting to minimize the predicted space-time integral of the user's program execution. Predictions are based upon statistics of information structure use provided directly by the user and collected by monitoring executions of the user program using default representations for the high-level structures. A demonstration system has been constructed. Results using that system are presented.

Data management programmers are finding their jobs are getting tougher because of the gradual replacement of sequential data bases by network data bases. In addition, there is a new job called 'Data Administrator' for handling the data structure problems associated with network data bases. The goal of this thesis is reduction of these data management tasks by developing and applying a practical theory of data structure. To insure the practical flavor of this research, the Data Base Task Group (DBIG) report has been selected as the specification of the data management system in which the applications function.

48ERIC ED418979: Nested Structures: District-Level Data In The Schools And Staffing Survey. Working Paper Series.

By

This paper presents a number of arguments for the increased importance of within-state district-level data in systematic assessments in the organizational structure of schools as educational institutions. The major question is whether the Schools and Staffing Survey (SASS) should shift its focus toward more macro-institutional district level processes rather than toward more micro-organizational classroom instructional models. Arguments are derived from a review of sociological theories as applied to the organization of education in the United States, a critical review of the 1993 SASS district-level survey, the increasing importance of student school choice, and recent policy research. The current and future utility of the SASS is derivative of relatively new state education reforms. The only comparative state data on the organizational status of districts and schools comes from the SASS. States have chosen not to abolish the local school district, and only under extreme circumstances do states administer districts with state personnel. The only way to be informed about reform effects in school districts is to review their implementation at the district level in each state, something the SASS can do well. An appendix lists district and state SASS samples by state. (Contains 30 references.) (SLD)

The NDARC code performs design and analysis tasks. The design task involves sizing the rotorcraft to satisfy specified design conditions and missions. The analysis tasks can include off-design mission performance analysis, flight performance calculation for point operating conditions, and generation of subsystem or component performance maps. Figure 1-1 illustrates the tasks. The principal tasks (sizing, mission analysis, flight performance analysis) are shown in the figure as boxes with heavy borders. Heavy arrows show control of subordinate tasks.\n\nThe aircraft description (figure 1-1) consists of all the information, input and derived, that defines the aircraft. The aircraft consists of a set of components, including fuselage, rotors, wings, tails, and propulsion. This information can be the result of the sizing task; can come entirely from input, for a fixed model; or can come from the sizing task in a previous case or previous job. The aircraft description information is available to all tasks and all solutions (indicated by light arrows). \n\nThe sizing task determines the dimensions, power, and weight of a rotorcraft that can perform a specified set of design conditions and missions. The aircraft size is characterized by parameters such as design gross weight, weight empty, rotor radius, and engine power available. The relations between dimensions, power, and weight generally require an iterative solution. From the design flight conditions and missions, the task can determine the total engine power or the rotor radius (or both power and radius can be fixed), as well as the design gross weight, maximum takeoff weight, drive system torque limit, and fuel tank capacity. For each propulsion group, the engine power or the rotor radius can be sized.\n\nMissions are defined for the sizing task, and for the mission performance analysis. A mission consists of a number of mission segments, for which time, distance, and fuel burn are evaluated. For the sizing task, certain missions are designated to be used for design gross weight calculations; for transmission sizing; and for fuel tank sizing. The mission parameters include mission takeoff gross weight and useful load. For specified takeoff fuel weight with adjustable segments, the mission time or distance is adjusted so the fuel required for the mission (burned plus reserve) equals the takeoff fuel weight. The mission iteration is on fuel weight or energy.\n\nFlight conditions are specified for the sizing task, and for the flight performance analysis. For the sizing task, certain flight conditions are designated to be used for design gross weight calculations; for transmission sizing; for maximum takeoff weight calculations; and for antitorque or auxiliary thrust rotor sizing. The flight condition parameters include gross weight and useful load.\n\nFor flight conditions and mission takeoff, the gross weight can be maximized, such that the power required equals the power available.\n\nA flight state is defined for each mission segment and each flight condition. The aircraft performance can be analyzed for the specified state, or a maximum effort performance can be identified. The maximum effort is specified in terms of a quantity such as best endurance or best range, and a variable such as speed, rate of climb, or altitude. The aircraft must be trimmed, by solving for the controls and motion that produce equilibrium in the specified flight state. Different trim solution definitions are required for various flight states. Evaluating the rotor hub forces may require solution of the blade flap equations of motion.

1Book of Musical Knowledge

By

This book has been planned with a view to placing before the general reader the main facts that will enable him to appreciate music intelligently. One often hears the remark, "I’m fond of music, but I don’t understand it." The present work has been written with the idea of enabling the non-musician to comprehend the real meaning of the tonal art, and to familiarize himself with the value of the great composers’ works, the use of the instruments, the various musical forms, and a number of subjects of similar importance. At the same time, certain other technical topics have been included. While these have been presented in such a way as to be understood by the non-musician, they have been given with sufficient thoroughness to make the work useful also as a textbook. It is therefore fitted to the needs of students and teachers, as well as amateurs. An effort has been made to condense the chief points of a general musical education into a single volume. While this book should prove of interest to the average reader, a course of study has been added, which will make it suitable for use in high schools or colleges also, or in any institution that aims to give a course in the understanding of music. - Summary by Preface NOTE: As with all historical texts, the language used in this volume should be interpreted within the context of the entire work and the cultural context of its publication.
