Scaffolding is a learning approach designed to promote a deeper understanding, it is the support given during the learning process which is tailored to the needs of the student with the intention of helping the student achieve the learning goals, including resources, a compelling task, templates and guides, and guidance on the development of cognitive and social skills. Meanwhile, problem-based learning (PBL) situate learning in complex tasks. Such task require scaffolding to help students engage in sense making, managing their investigations, problem-solving processes, and encouraging students to articulate their thinking and reflect on their learning. This study aimed to develop four scaffolding modules for collaborative problem-based learning through the computer network on Moodle LMS for the computer programming course of undergraduate students, and to analyze the satisfaction of the experts and students after using the developed scaffolding modules. The four scaffolding modules consisted of metacognitive scaffolding, conceptual scaffolding, strategic scaffolding, and procedural scaffolding, each of which represented by a 3-D animation expert cartoon to attract students. The sample group were twenty-two students of small group pilot and six experts. The findings indicated that the degree of satisfaction towards the scaffolding from the experts was high and the degree of the satisfaction towards the scaffolding from the students was also high. This can be used the four scaffolding modules to complete PBL task successfully.

The 21st century has caused numerous significant impacts and advancements in the lives of people. Information Technology (IT) has contributed essential benefits in the different areas of the society. One of the vital skills in developing IT solutions is programming. For many, writing computer programs may be a very challenging task which may result in some levels of anxiety. This study aimed to describe and look at the relationship between the academic performance and the programming anxiety among Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) students to provide a basis for instructional strategy improvement in the undergraduate level.

Two experiments are conducted to observe how children, ages 10-15, who have not previously used a computer, will learn concepts relevant to computer programing languages. The interpreters used are LOGO and SIMPER. Subjects are pretested with an instrument developed to predict ability to manage the concepts. They are then given group instruction on a weekly basis with individual practice four days a week. Teletypes, for the most part, are used to interact with the computer, and tutorial assistance is given. After the first experiment the order of presentation is altered. The results of both experiments lead to the identification of changes that are needed in the interpreters and to suggestions for further revisions in curriculum design. The report is supported by tables, and by appendices including a third interpreter, SPM, and aptitude testing details. (WBC)

It is generally agreed that providing a precise formal semantics for a programming language is helpful in fully understanding the language. This is especially true in the case of logic programming like languages for which the underlying logic provides a well-defined but insufficient semantic basis. Indeed, in addition to the usual model theoretic semantics of the logic, proof, theoretic deduction plays a crucial role in understanding logic programs. Moreover, for specific implementations of logic programming, e.g. PROLOG, the notion of deduction strategy is also important. Computer program languages.

The development and testing of knowledge based computer tools for the integration of design and construction (CIDCIS) are described. A system architecture is presented which is intended to provide coordination among multiple designers working in separate engineering disciplines, using knowledge to estimate interface conditions between disciplines, recording who used any piece of design data created by others, and how such data was used, and checking for conflicts among disciplines, constructability, and construction cost and schedule impacts of design decisions. The system is based on the object oriented programming and blackboard control techniques. Current status of CIDCIS along with a simulation example is presented. This manual is a combined tutorial and reference manual for the JOVIAL (J73) language as defined in MIL-STD-1589A dated 15 March 1979. The main body of the manual describes the entire language, giving motivation and examples for each feature. This manual is intended for a reader who has had previous experience with assembly language or some higher order language. It does not teach the fundamentals of programming. On the other hand, the presentation is informal and nonmathematical.

The technical requirements for a common DoD high order programming language given here are a synthesis of the requirements submitted by the Military Departments. They specify a set of language characteristics that are appropriate for embedded computer applications (i.e., command and control, communications, avionics, shipboard, test equipment, software development and maintenance, and support applications). The changes that produced this revision reflect the many comments on previous versions received from the Services, military contractors, the research community, and other organizations during 1976. This revision does not alter the basic intent or substance of the December 1975 (i.e., 'TINMAN') version of the requirements. it does incorporate changes to improve clarity, to correct errors, and to ensure feasibility. The revised requirements are hierarchically organized with an outline similar to that expected in a language defining document. Section 1 gives the general design criteria. These provide the major goals that influenced the selection of specific requirements and provide a basis for language design decisions that are not otherwise dealt with in the requirements. Sections 2 through 12 give more specific technical requirements on the language and its translators. The requirements call for the inclusion of features to satisfy specific needs in the design, implementation, and maintenance of military software, specify many general and specific characteristics desired for the language, and call for the exclusion of certain undesirable characteristics. Section 13 gives some of the intentions and expectations for development, control, and use of the language.

The report presents derivation, documentation, and listing of a dynamic programming model on JOSS FOR FINDING OPTIMAL SOLUTIONS (minimum-cost paths) to network problems. The network represents the possible connections between decisions and expresses costs of going from one to another. The model encompasses a value-iterative algorithm which successively converges to the solution. The principle of optimality, which permits finding the minimum-cost (shortest) path as a function of the maximum number of arcs allowed, is: Regardless of how a particular state was arrived at, the remaining decisions as to what path to take enroute to the terminal must themselves constitute an optimal solution. The costs of traversing arcs may be input, recalled from other files, or calculated by JOSS from input functions. Model flexibility allows for testing the sensitivity of a decision process to changes in the terminal point.

The  Elliott 803  is a small, medium-speed transistor digital computer which was manufactured by the  British  company  Elliott Brothers  in the 1960s. About 211 were built. This manual is not proposed to attempt to reproduce here a technical specification of the computer - this is amply covered in the official publications produced by the parent company and these should be referred to. However, it is necessary to describe certain aspects of the equipment as a preliminary to the introduction to machine language programming.

Topological quantum computing has recently proven itself to be a powerful computational model when constructing viable architectures for large scale computation. The topological model is constructed from the foundation of a error correction code, required to correct for inevitable hardware faults that will exist for a large scale quantum device. It is also a measurement based model of quantum computation, meaning that the quantum hardware is responsible only for the construction of a large, computationally universal quantum state. This quantum state is then strategically consumed, allowing for the realisation of a fully error corrected quantum algorithm. The number of physical qubits needed by the quantum hardware and the amount of time required to implement an algorithm is dictated by the manner in which this universal quantum state is consumed. In this paper we examine the problem of algorithmic optimisation in the topological lattice and introduce the required elements that will be needed when designing a classical software package to compile and implement a large scale algorithm on a topological quantum computer.

Margaret of Angoulême, Queen of Navarre (Marguerite de Navarre), (1492-1549), was the sister of Francis I, King of France. She was highly-educated and was courted by the future Henry VIII of England. However, at the age of seventeen, she was married by royal decree to the untutored dolt, Charles IV of Alençon. After his death she wed Henry II of Navarre by whom she had a daughter (the mother of the future Henry IV of France) and a son, who died in infancy. The author takes us with Margaret on her perilous journey over the Pyrenees to Spain to attempt to free her brother, Francis, held captive by the Holy Roman Emperor. Margaret's support for the first stirrings of the Reformation in France alarmed the Catholic conservatives of the Sorbonne. Her cycle of short stories, the "Heptameron," is still read and enjoyed today. (Pamela Nagami)

Emily Brontë (1818-1848) is best known for her only novel, "Wuthering Heights." She was born in Yorkshire, northern England, where her father was an Anglican curate. When Brontë was three years old her mother died of cancer. At the age of six she joined her three sisters briefly at the Clergy Daughters' School, where privations and abuse contributed to the deaths of two of them. Her elder sister, Charlotte, immortalized this terrible place in "Jane Eyre." In 1846 Emily Brontë, under the pseudonym Ellis Bell, published a selection of her poetry. In 1847 appeared her dark, gothic novel, "Wuthering Heights," with its Byronic anti-hero, Heathcliff. Brontë was shy, even reclusive, and never married. In the fall of 1848 she fell ill with inflammation of the lungs, probably due to rapidly-progressive tuberculosis, and died in December of that year, aged twenty-nine. This is a short biography of Brontë written by the British poet, novelist, and critic, Agnes Mary Frances Robinson (1857-1944). (Pamela Nagami)

Harriet Robinson was a frequent contributor to the famous monthly periodical, "The Lowell Offering", which featured poetry, essays and fiction written between 1840-1845 by the young female textile workers (ages 15-35) known as Lowell Mill Girls, living in the innovative Lowell, Massachusetts textile mills communities. Articles published therein describe their living conditions, where they came from, how they felt about their jobs, challenges met, bosses, new experiences and education they received. Rev. A.C. Thomas who organized and edited the publication, found in these factory girls a good field for the application of his belief that women have the right and the ability to express their thoughts, both in speaking and in writing. In his own words, "...and thus was published ... the first magazine or journal written exclusively by women in all the world." In presenting my little book to the public, I feel that I should apologize for so doing, instead of introducing it; for at the time my letters were written I had no idea of publishing them. Since my return, however, several friends who had read them have assured me that they greatly enjoyed them, and felt that others would do so, also, had they the opportunity. The letters have, at least, the merit of being fresh and honest impressions of the places described, as they were written on the spots. Remembering how eagerly I have always read letters of travel, I sincerely hope{x} that mine may prove a source of pleasure to some—to those who have been over the same ground, and to many who have the pleasure in anticipation. I am aware that the route I describe is a well-worn thoroughfare, but every eye has its own perspective, and different views of the same pictures assist the sight-seer in comprehending the whole.
