The National Public Policy Education Conference is held annually to improve the policy education efforts of extension workers responsible for public affairs programs. The 1994 conference addressed the following topics: (1) ethical perspectives in public policy education; (2) transition of food and agricultural policy; (3) building human capital--reforming education; (4) environmental policies; (5) local impacts of trade policy; (6) financing K-12 education; and (7) sustainable rural policy. Recent climate protests have used “extreme” tactics, such as road-blocking and throwing soup at paintings. Such tactics succeed in their aim of generating high-profile media attention, but have also resulted in considerable public debate regarding the likely effects on policy. A key question concerns the public's view of such actions as well as its views of how government should respond. Do such actions increase public support for more urgent climate action from government? Alternatively (or perhaps additionally), do "extreme" protest actions increase public support for greater police powers and the introduction of new measures to discourage protest? Such questions are of interest to policy makers, activists, journalists, academics and the public more generally. Interviews will be employed with members of the public as part of the larger University of Bristol Policy and Protest project to gather evidence that will inform policy in this domain.

Early care and education can prepare children for school, but while some preschool and child care programs do an excellent job, others are inadequate and some may even harm healthy development. This study focuses on child care center directors to better understand why there is so much variation, and how public initiatives can better help poor-quality programs improve. Using data from in-depth interviews and classroom observations, the research considers how various factors--including director and program characteristics, market forces, and federal state and local policies--are associated with each other, director decision making, and program quality. Montana is proud to have completed over three decades of participation in the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS). These results are valuable to educators, school boards, and communities, including parents and students, in understanding the health risks of Montana students, enabling districts to design local health and physical education curriculum to address local needs. In addition, these results drive state collaboration as well as program and policy decisions. The Montana Office of Public Instruction uses these results to establish benchmarks for reducing adolescent risk behaviors and increasing pro-social behaviors, designing state priorities for health programs, and evaluating the effectiveness of many health-related programs across the health and education systems. During the spring of the 2020-2021 school year, when schools faced many challenges, 98% of all school districts, and 22,576 students in grades 7 through 12 completed the survey. The 2021 YRBS results are the students' story and a "snapshot in time" of their experiences. This American Indian Students Report contains frequency distributions, point of interest (POI) graphs, and trend charts. [A list of the Survey's co-sponsors can be found on page 70 of the PDF. This survey experiment examines the breadth of public support for corporate tax cuts that are intended to facilitate the green energy transition. It studies the broad level of approval relative to other policies and examines preferences, particularly within politically relevant subgroups, when primed with domestic and international economic cues.

This book offers the first overview of the ‘wicked problems’ literature, often seen as complex, open-ended, and intractable, with both the nature of the ‘problem’ and the preferred ‘solution’ being strongly contested. It contextualises the debate using a wide range of relevant policy examples, explaining why these issues attract so much attention. There is an increasing interest in the conceptual and practical aspects of how ‘wicked problems’ are identified, understood and managed by policy practitioners. The standard public management responses to complexity and uncertainty (including traditional regulation and market-based solutions) are insufficient. Leaders often advocate and implement ideological ‘quick fixes’, but integrative and inclusive responses are increasingly being utilised to recognise the multiple interests and complex causes of these problems. This book offers the first overview of the ‘wicked problems’ literature, often seen as complex, open-ended, and intractable, with both the nature of the ‘problem’ and the preferred ‘solution’ being strongly contested. It contextualises the debate using a wide range of relevant policy examples, explaining why these issues attract so much attention. There is an increasing interest in the conceptual and practical aspects of how ‘wicked problems’ are identified, understood and managed by policy practitioners. The standard public management responses to complexity and uncertainty (including traditional regulation and market-based solutions) are insufficient. Leaders often advocate and implement ideological ‘quick fixes’, but integrative and inclusive responses are increasingly being utilised to recognise the multiple interests and complex causes of these problems. This book uses examples from a wide range of social, economic and environmental fields in order to develop new insights about better solutions, and thus gain broad stakeholder acceptance for shared strategies for tackling ‘wicked problems’.
