Swollen shoot is a viral disease of cocoa that is developing in the region of Soubré and is causing very serious damage. However, little is known about the epidemiological factors responsible for this disease, which makes it difficult to control the swollen shoot virus. The main objective of this study was to determine the influence of plot maintenance level and the leaf cover of tree on the prevalence of Swollen shoot disease at the site of Petit-Bondoukou. The observation system consists of a sentinel size 10 km X 10 km. Each sentinel site is made up of 16 clusters of 2.5 km X 2.5 km containing about 10 plots which constitute the different observation points. In this study, observations were made in 4 plots of the site. The variables measured during data collection were the number of trees affected by the swollen shoot, the leaf cover level of each test tree and the maintenance level of sampling plots. A descriptive analysis was carried out with the data in order to understand their dispersal. Comparative analysis of swollen shoot prevalence and leaf cover level using the one-way ANOVA showed a significant relationship. Comparison of swollen shoot prevalence and plot maintenance level using the Kruskall-Wallis test showed that the prevalence of swollen shoot disease did not depend on the maintenance level. However, the leaf cover level of the test trees influenced the prevalence of swollen shoot disease. This is justified by the fact that test trees with low or medium leaf cover had significantly higher prevalences of CSSV.

This report provides a draft military specification for use in the procurement of Logic Tree Troubleshooting Aids (LTTAs). Recent research has demonstrated that the use of LTTAs can significantly improve the efficiency and effectiveness of maintenance personnel in performing troubleshooting tasks. The use of LTTAs results in quicker location of faults and reduced consumption of spare parts. However, at present there is no specification available for the procurement of LTTAs. The draft specification was developed to fill this need. A thorough review of the state of the art in preparing and using LTTAs was made to provide the basis for developing the draft specification. This was accomplished by reviewing available literature and then conducting extensive interviews with government and industry personnel with experience in developing, using, and evaluating LTTAs. The results of the interviews were analyzed to provide the basis for establishing the requirements for developing LTTAs. The goal was to develop a specification which establishes basic requirements for developing LTTAs which will result in improved performance while still providing enough flexibility to be suitable for application to a wide variety of applications. The draft specification provides specific and general requirements for the development of LTTAs. These include requirements for (a) task analysis, (b) development of troubleshooting procedures, (c) development of checkout procedures, (d) presentation formats, (e) preliminary information, (f) supplemental and support information (wiring diagrams, theory of operation, etc.), (g) varying levels of enrichment, and (h) dual level presentation.

Algeria is situated in a region where the lack of water is frequent. Indeed, the period of drought is long even for zones classified in wet bioclimatic floors. This period of drought spreads out generally May until mid October for the wet said zones and all year long for the dry and desert zones. Rains are irregular and unevenly distributed. The recourse use to the techniques of collection of rainwaters, management and preservation for traditional processes is a current practice which tends to be neglected in favour of "modern" techniques of irrigation. Our contribution has double objective: Rehabilitation of certain techniques of collections of rainwaters (valats, poach stones, impluvium) where it is used mainly for the olive tree and the fig tree (Mounts of Kabylia, Beni Snous), and,   A study of the management techniques and preservation of the water where the risk is shared by all the community (foggara,…) Moreover, we underline that certain areas to fragile ecology are rich in sources of water, which in spite of the institution of the social rules which make the unanimity regarding sharing and regarding distribution; the farmers cannot manage to satisfy the water requirements of their cultures, only revenue stream for some of them. This requires a renovation of the traditional system of water delivery to the plot of land without disrupting the already established social rules, where from the necessity of a participative work, where the farmers are actively involved. The methods of water sharing are based on equity, rigor, solidarity and mutual aid through the organization of the tour of water according to the size of the plot of land, the moment of intervention, the timing and the cultures to be irrigated. We underline that the maintenance of the network is made prior to the beginning of the campaign (countryside) of irrigation in the form of "touisa" and financial resources have never been a means of access to water. The water source is considered as a benefit of the community regardless of its location.

Hurricane season is right around the corner. This is the perfect time to not only get yourself, your family and your pets prepared, but it's also a time to ensure that your properties are safe as well. It's the perfect opportunity to start cleaning out your garage and throwing away that pesky old patio furniture that keeps you from fitting your car in there. It's the perfect time to trim your trees and other vegetation on your property, especially those close to your homes and powerlines. Now you might be listening to me right now and rolling your eyes and thinking that you have plenty of time to get this all done, or you won't even bother, but before you brush me off completely, let me tell you a little story.[Sound of wind from a hurricane]In September 2017, one of the most powerful hurricanes ever recorded in the history of the Atlantic was projected to come barreling through the east coast of Florida. Packing a hundred and eighty-five mile an hour winds, Hurricane Irma, a category five storm, caused complete devastation and destruction to everything in its path. As the storm inched closer to home, Floridians kept a very close eye on the ever-changing hurricane track, hoping for the best but eventually preparing for the worst. Unfortunately, because of the uncertainty, many residents around the City of Boca Raton left hurricane preparation for the very last minute, which included cleaning out their garages and pruning their trees. Items such as mattresses, patio furniture, old appliances and mounds of palm fronds and vegetation piled up in front of people's homes waiting to be picked up and disposed of by the City of Boca Raton's Municipal Services Department. With the abundance of items that were thrown away, dump sites and transfer stations became inundated with bulk items and debris, eventually reached maximum capacity, and no longer accepted any additional waste. Municipal Services had no other choice but to suspend operations leaving hazardous materials vulnerable in hurricane force winds and residents dissatisfied and extremely frustrated. Fortunately, the city sustained less damage than anticipated, this time around. But the sanitation challenges that the city faced before the storm prompted them to create the Clean and Cut program, a free bulk and vegetation pickup program for all customers within the city. The city will be offering this program again in June after seeing such great participation within the community. Last June over four thousand tons of garbage and bulk items were collected and over one thousand tons of vegetation. This increased from June 2017's pickup by almost twenty percent, with close to an additional eight hundred tons of waste that was picked up from residents. Not only will Clean and Cut help the city's sanitation services run more smoothly before a storm, but it can also help prevent trees falling on powerlines and cutting out your power. One important aspect of getting prepared for this Clean and Cut program is to prune and trim your trees. I was able to speak to Nora Fosman, our City Senior Environmental Officer, and she provided me with some great information on how to prepare and protect your vegetation and property before hurricane season begins.Anne Marie: I am here with Nora Fosman, our Senior Environmental Officer.
