This Powerpoint presentation argues that the problems encountered in implementing African-centered curriculum into the university composition classroom attest to the need for African centered education in kindergarten through university level educational institutions. The solution of the problem of African American students' disproportionate literacy achievement compared to students from the dominant culture is to counteract cultural conflict and use African American Vernacular English (AAVE) and culture as the composition curriculum. The Black language and literacy experience in America should be the center of inquiry. Contrasting AAVE discourse, rhetoric, and grammar with academic discourse will result in students' improved writing. Students can become more knowledgeable about language and usage; however, diversity within the African American community brings with it the clash of diverse ideologies and class intersections. To counteract the monocultural influence of the traditional orientation to the making of knowledge or "the powers that be," educators need to "get their heads together"--the "folk head,""working head," and "middle head." A more recent memory involving Liberia could be the 2014 Ebola crisis. The actual relationship between Liberia and the United States is more complicated than these two events. The United States serves in the critical role of the former colonial power of Liberia and continues to be instrumental in the ultimate success or failure of Liberia in post-colonial Africa. Liberia's three neighboring countries: Cote d'Ivoire, Sierra Leone, and Guinea all have unique relationships with their former colonial powers that shape their internal and external affairs. This research paper investigates these relationships and attempts to identify elements of these relationships that can be included in, or excluded from the US relationship with Liberia.

Today's News: Ireland's economy ( for many years heavily dependent on the computer component and chip manufacturing industry ) has gone broke and will accept tens of billions of dollars in cash and credit infusions into it's national bank. That event has also caused the collapse of the government with elections due in January at the earliest. Meanwhile, the rest of the EU nations ' wait for the other shoe to drop '. Germany is in the middle of a terror alert due to allegedly reliable reports of two suicide bombers active in Berlin from Pakistan's al Qaeda, if you believe Western intel sources, that makes them 'Osama's boys'. The North Koreans have invited a nuclear physicist from Stanford to visit their nuclear facilities... and he did. It seems their program is just power related at the moment, then they'll figure out how to make weapons-grade material, and then they'll figure out how to make a bomb, and then they'll figure out how to missile mount it, and of course we worry about it . The TSA chief has decided he will make no changes on their "full body scan or you get sexually assaulted" policy. There will be large numbers of protesters this Wednesday 'opting-out' of the 12 second radiation-based scan and intentionally opting into a 15 minute pat-down. Expect holiday rush travel delays if even one percent decide to "opt out". The NATO conference in Lisbon 'went well' for president Obama with the group approving a move in the Afghanistan withdrawal date from next year to 2014.
