7ERIC ED396535: Taiwanese People's Attitudes Toward Requiring EFL Course At Elementary Schools: The Opinions Of The Taiwanese Students At Indiana University, Bloomington.

A study investigated the Taiwanese people's attitudes toward the issue of requiring English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) instruction at the elementary school level in Taiwan. Taiwanese students (n=45) at Indiana University, Bloomington were randomly selected as subjects from a Chinese student association directory. They were 21-43 years old, from 21 departments, and educated in Taiwanese schools until at least high school. Subjects were administered an attitude survey, and 20 were also interviewed either briefly or extensively by telephone. Results indicate that the subjects show a slight tendency toward the requirement of ESL instruction in elementary school, although interviewees expressed more negative opinions. Most subjects believed the English is an international language, one which can be used most broadly by the Taiwanese. In addition, most respondents felt the first step in implementing ESL instruction at the elementary level is to upgrade teacher training and instructional material development. The People's University was an initiative developed in 1907 by Dr. Albert Bazola, who modeled it after other existing world university extensions. An important characteristic in the work of the People's University is the effort it makes to keep pace with the activities of other universities in world theory, organizational programs, and practices. Now nearly one hundred years old, People's University focuses its efforts in the areas of teaching cultural and educational activities. This work has been performed in Croatia and in other areas of the world. The historical background of the People's University reflects its commitment to providing scientific education to those who lack the opportunity and to developing and satisfying educational and cultural needs for a diverse culture. 10Injection Device-related Risk Management Toward Safe Administration Of Medications: Experience In A University Teaching Hospital In The People's Republic Of China.

This article is from Therapeutics and Clinical Risk Management , volume 10 . Abstract The use of injection devices to administer intravenous or subcutaneous medications is common practice throughout a variety of health care settings. Studies suggest that one-half of all harmful medication errors originate during drug administration; of those errors, about two-thirds involve injectables. Therefore, injection device management is pivotal to safe administration of medications. In this article, the authors summarize the relevant experiences by retrospective analysis of injection device-related near misses and adverse events in the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University, School of Medicine, Zhejiang University, People’s Republic of China. Injection device-related near misses and adverse events comprised the following: 1) improper selection of needle diameter for subcutaneous injection, material of infusion sets, and pore size of in-line filter; 2) complications associated with vascular access; 3) incidents induced by absence of efficient electronic pump management and infusion tube management; and 4) liquid leakage of chemotherapeutic infusion around the syringe needle. Safe injection drug use was enhanced by multidisciplinary collaboration, especially among pharmacists and nurses; drafting of clinical pathways in selection of vascular access; application of approaches such as root cause analysis using a fishbone diagram; plan–do–check–act and quality control circle; and construction of a culture of spontaneous reporting of near misses and adverse events. Pharmacists must be professional in regards to medication management and use. The depth, breadth, and efficiency of cooperation between nurses and pharmacists are pivotal to injection safety.

This report uses Longitudinal Surveys of Australian Youth (LSAY) data to look at the impact of schools on a student's tertiary entrance rank (TER) and the probability of them going to university (controlling for TER). It shows that the characteristics of schools do matter: although young people's individual characteristics are the main drivers of success, school attributes are also responsible for almost 20% of the variation in TER scores. The three most important school attributes for TER include sector (Catholic and independent/ government); gender mix (single sex/co-educational) and the extent to which a school is "academic". The socioeconomic status of schools didn't emerge as a significant influence on TER. For the probability of going to university, after controlling for TER, the most significant school characteristics include the proportion on non-English speaking background students; the sector; and the socioeconomic make-up of the student body. Appended are: (1) Descriptive statistics; (2) Student-level measures; (3) Factor analysis for SES measure; (4) Factor analysis for perceptions of schooling measure; (5) Technical details on multi-level modelling; (6) Results from multi-level modelling; and (7) Information on the Logistic scale. Background and Aim: Physical activity is an important means to promote the comprehensive and healthy development of children's bodies and minds. The national health strategy and population policy adjustment, the development of kindergartens, and the deterioration of children's physical health have all worked together to bring unprecedented opportunities for the development of children's sports in China. The purpose of this paper is to study the background information of the contents of the curriculum of preschool physical education ability of year 4 students and develop the curriculum to improve the preschool physical education ability of year 4 students. Materials and Methods: The researcher has studied the literature on the development of physical education teachers' physical education ability curriculum to cultivate year 4 students' physical education ability from the aspects of the curriculum development process, components, implementation, and evaluation, and has studied the quality of students' teachers from textbooks, academic documents, and related research. The researcher also used a simple random sampling method to have 4 teachers as a sample. The population is 8 expert teachers in physical education. The research instruments of this study are an interview questionnaire on preschool's physical education ability and lesson plans. Results: Research findings: 1) The 6 components of the course include principles, objectives, content, instructional strategies using situational teaching methods, materials, and evaluation. 2) Preschool physical education ability which includes: 2.1) General ability, 2.2) Special ability, and 2.3) Application ability. After that, the researcher designed and completed the training course components of preschool physical education, and then evaluated the quality by five experts. The IOC value was between 3.80-4.00, and the interrater reliability value was between 0.77-0.79> 0.5. The course components were modified according to the experts' suggestions. Conclusion: The components of the course which include 6 components could improve the preschool physical education ability of year 4 students effectively.

"Skill is laying the foundation for a brighter India. As John Ruskin puts it, "Skill is the unified force of experience, intellect, and passion in their operation." "Nation Building" is a herculean task that involves the government of the land, private and public institutions, industries, organisations, and every citizen there, holding accountability of its development inch by inch. India faces enormous problems in practically every aspect of national life as a young democratic nation with a multilingual, multicultural, and multiethnic population. Poverty, illiteracy, unequal and underdeveloped growth of diverse segments of the country, and insufficient infrastructure in educational and training institutions are all impeding the country's development. The insufficiently skilled workforce is unable to assume greater responsibilities in the development of a better nation. In India, there is now a scarcity of highly trained and skilled educators. Both in India and overseas, there is a considerable need for all levels of skilled labour, including semiskilled, skilled, highly skilled, and highly skilled with specialisation. An estimated 65 percent of workers in India are aged 15 to 59, with an average age of 29 compared to China and other OECD countries. Approximately 335 million people are currently employed in the United States today. They are largely uneducated and have little or no experience. Approximately 59 million of the 70 million predicted to enter the market will be in the 15 to 30 age category. "Nation Building" is a herculean task that involves the government of the land, private and public institutions, industries, organisations, and every citizen there, holding accountability of its development inch by inch. India faces enormous problems in practically every aspect of national life as a young democratic nation with a multilingual, multicultural, and multiethnic population. Poverty, illiteracy, unequal and underdeveloped growth of diverse segments of the country, and insufficient infrastructure in educational and training institutions are all impeding the country's development. The insufficiently skilled workforce is unable to assume greater responsibilities in the development of a better nation. In India, there is now a scarcity of highly trained and skilled educators. Both in India and overseas, there is a considerable need for all levels of skilled labour, including semiskilled, skilled, highly skilled, and highly skilled with specialisation. An estimated 65 percent of workers in India are aged 15 to 59, with an average age of 29 compared to China and other OECD countries. Independent and original thinking are the concepts which define critical thinking. A critical thinker doesn't passively accept other people's views and thoughts, on the contrary he constitutes his own thoughts by analyzing them. This independence liberates his mind, heart and actions (Doganay and Ünal, 2006). In this context, the definition of critical thinking can be summarized as reaching a conclusion by reasoning (collecting information for a present situation, defining assumptions and evidences, discussing the defined evidences and inferring and synthesizing) on a problem or a situation (Demirel, 2006). Critical thinking becomes a basic skill in occupational groups. To improve the quality of the services people get, all professionals, especially doctors, teachers, architects, lawyers, nurses, builders, must have the ability to think critically.This study aims to classify the master's and PhD theses whose titles contain the concept of "critical thinking" by different variables. The data were collected from the 211 master's and PhD theses completed between 1999-2014 and registered to database of Council of Higher Education. This study was conducted through descriptive survey model and descriptive statistics were used in the analysis process. Thesis were examined and classified under the following topics; (1) academic level, (2) the universities in which they were prepared, (3) preparation year, (4) research method, (5) research model, (6) education level of the participants, (7) departments in which they were prepared (8) gender of the researchers, (9) degree of the supervisors (10) number of pages.At the end of the study it was found that most of the theses about critical thinking were master's theses and they were prepared in well-established universities. There are hardly any theses prepared in private universities. The number of theses about critical thinking reached its top point between 2009-2012. While most of the master's theses were conducted through quantitative method, most of the PhD theses were conducted through mixed and experimental designs. The participants of most of the theses about critical thinking were university and primary school students. Teachers and nurses participated in more theses than other occupational groups. Most of the theses about critical thinking were conducted in the field of education. nursing and heath care departments takes the second place. However, it is interesting that hardly any theses were conducted in the fields of law, politics, public administration, sociology and psychology. Another interesting point is that most of the theses were prepared by female researchers.

Thesis Were Examined And Classified Under The Following Topics; (1) Academic Level, (2) The Universities In Which They Were Prepared, (3) Preparation Year, (4) Research Method, (5) Research Model, (6) Education Level Of The Participants, (7) Departments In Which They Were Prepared (8) Gender Of The Researchers, (9) Degree Of The Supervisors (10) Number Of Pages.At The End Of The Study It Was Found That Most Of The Theses About Critical Thinking Were Master's Theses And They Were Prepared In Well-established Universities. There Are Hardly Any Theses Prepared In Private Universities. The Number Of Theses About Critical Thinking Reached Its Top Point Between 2009-2012. While Most Of The Master's Theses Were Conducted Through Quantitative Method, Most Of The PhD Theses Were Conducted Through Mixed And Experimental Designs. The Participants Of Most Of The Theses About Critical Thinking Were University And Primary School Students. Teachers And Nurses Participated In More Theses Than Other Occupational Groups. Most Of The Theses About Critical Thinking Were Conducted In The Field Of Education. Nursing And Heath Care Departments Takes The Second Place. However, It Is Interesting That Hardly Any Theses Were Conducted In The Fields Of Law, Politics, Public Administration, Sociology And Psychology.
