4Robustness Of The Quantum Hall Effect, Sample Size Versus Sample Topology, And Quality Control Management Of III-V Molecular Beam Epitaxy

By

We measure the IQHE on macroscopic (1.5cm x 1.5cm) "quick 'n' dirty" prepared III-V heterostructure samples with van der Pauw and modified Corbino geometries at 1.3 K. We compare our results with (i) data taken on smaller specimens, among them samples with a standard Hall bar geometry, (ii) results of our numerical analysis taking inhomogenities of the 2DEG into account. Our main finding is a confirmation of the expected robustness of the IQHE which favours the development of wide plateaux for small filling factors and very large sample sizes (here with areas 10,000 times larger than in standard arrangements).

6DTIC ADA261973: A Comparative Analysis Of Total Quality Management And Compliance Inspections As The Control Mechanism For The Coast Guard's Afloat Centralized Supply System.

By

This thesis examines the Coast Guard's current compliance-oriented inspections and considers Total Quality Management (TQM) as an alternative control mechanism aboard the Coast Guard's High Endurance Cutters. This comparative analysis is based on a review of applicable literature and data gained through field interviews. The Coast Guard's use of an overlay structure to increase innovation is analyzed. Research on parallel learning structures suggests that questions remain about the impact such structures may have on transforming Coast Guard culture. A comparative analysis is used to weigh the merits of compliance systems and the self-control mechanisms of the Quality Advantage, the Coast Guard variant of TQM. A basic model of the control serves as a framework for comparison. Significant differences in philosophy, control processes and results are noted. The major goals of organizational efficiency and innovativeness are impacted differently by the two systems.... Control systems, Inspections, TQM, Parallel learning structures, Coast Guard.

7DTIC ADA147051: The Effects Of Software Quality Control And Baseline Management On The Acquisition Of Computer Programs.

By

This thesis examines the issue of software development for Embedded Computer Systems, within the context of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), from the perspective of Software Quality Assurance (SQA) and Baseline Management. The objective of this research effort is to develop an approach for the joint application of SQA and Baseline Management to improve management control (maintain cost and schedule integrity) during the software development process. Initially, the disciplines of SQA and Baseline Management are presented as individual components, operating during the SDLC, which provide management with increased control over the software development process. General concepts associated with SQA are first discussed, including the potential role of Software Metrics. This is followed by a review of Department of Defense literature pertaining to SQA and Baseline Management, which are then studied as a combined approach towards the effective management control of the software development process.

9Evaluating The Impact Of Nutritional Interventions And Dietary Management On Glycemic Control And Quality Of Life In Diabetic Patients: A Comparative Analysis Of Dietary Approaches In African Healthcare Settings (www.kiu.ac.ug)

By

The rising prevalence of type 2 diabetes (T2D) in Africa, exacerbated by urbanization, changing diets, and limited healthcare resources, underscores the need for effective dietary interventions to manage the condition. This review evaluates the impact of culturally tailored nutritional interventions on glycemic control and the quality of life (QoL) of diabetic patients in African healthcare settings. Traditional African diets, rich in fiber and locally available foods such as legumes, whole grains, and vegetables, offer promising alternatives to Western dietary models, which may not align with local cultures or economic realities. The review explores the effectiveness of integrating indigenous foods like moringa and baobab, as well as community-based programs that address food insecurity, to enhance adherence and optimize blood sugar control. Comparative analyses reveal that culturally adapted dietary interventions improve patient satisfaction, long-term adherence, and clinical outcomes. However, challenges such as poverty, food insecurity, and limited healthcare resources persist. Recommendations for policy and practice include expanding access to culturally relevant nutritional counseling, promoting local and affordable foods, and fostering partnerships to strengthen food security. Ultimately, the review advocates for regionally tailored approaches that consider both local food systems and socio-economic barriers to provide sustainable and effective diabetes management in Africa.

14DTIC ADA113854: Large-Scale Operations Management Test Of Use Of The White Amur For Control Of Problem Aquatic Plants. Report 2. First Year Poststocking Results. Volume VI. The Water And Sediment Quality Of Lake Conway, Florida.

By

This report presents the results of the initial poststocking period covering a 12-month period from September 1977-August 1978. The data collected during this period were compiled in a format similar to that used for the baseline report. The compiled poststocking data were compared to the baseline conditions to determine if any substantial changes had occurred. The baseline report concentrated on certain water quality factors for future data comparisons. These included concentration variability due to sampling depth, water quality variability between the five lake pools, phyto-plankton and nutrient relationships, and seasonal variations in water quality. Each of these factors is reviewed in this report, and changes which have occurred compared to the baseline period are documented. Concerning variations with changing sampling depths, three parameters were found to have greater than a 5 percent variation in mean value at different depths. These parameters include organic nitrogen, biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), and volatile suspended solids. The baseline report established a trend of increasing water quality proceeding from Lake Gatlin to the South pool of Lake Conway. During the poststocking period this trend changed somewhat in that the pools associated with Lake Conway exhibited similar water quality conditions compared to each other. However, Lake Gatlin continued to have the poorest water quality.

21DTIC ADA124443: Large-Scale Operations Management Test Of Use Of The White Amur For Control Of Problem Aquatic Plants. Report 4. Third Year Poststocking Results. Volume VI. The Water And Sediment Quality Of Lake Conway, Florida.

By

This report presents the results of the third annual poststocking period covering the 12-month period from September 1979-August 1980. The data collected during this period are compiled herein in a format similar to that used for the baseline report and the two previous poststocking reports. The compiled poststocking data are compared to the baseline conditions to determine if any significant changes have occurred as a result of the introduction of the white amur into Lake Conway. Subsequent to the introduction of the white amur, both total filterable and total unfilterable phosphorus underwent significant downward trends that presently appear to be becoming stable. Conversely, the gradual upward trend of chlorophyll-a continued during this period. Sediment quality data showed several changes from the baseline period. The mean total phosphorus concentration decreased 56 percent as compared to the baseline period. Conversely, mean copper and lead concentrations increased above baseline values. (Author)

27DTIC ADA118701: Large-Scale Operations Management Test Of Use Of The White Amur For Control Of Problem Aquatic Plants. Report 3. Second Year Poststocking Results. Volume VI. The Water And Sediment Quality Of Lake Conway, Florida.

By

This report presents the results of the second annual poststocking period covering the 12-month period from September 1978 through August 1979. The data collected during this period were compiled in a format similar to that utilized in the baseline report and the first poststocking report. The compiled poststocking data were compared to the baseline data to determine if any significant changes had occurred subsequent to the introduction of the white amur to Lake Conway.

By

Sampling and testing procedures utilized by the Orange County Pollution Control Department in collecting and analyzing water and sediment samples during the baseline data collection period of the Large-Scale Operations Management Test at Lake Conway, Fla., are documented in this report. Water quality data obtainaed during the baseline period, January 1976 - August 1977, are compiled for each of the 12 sampling stations. Mean values and standard deviations are included for all of the relevant parameters. An analysis of water quality data showed little variability within each lake pool but indicated variations between the pools. Several water quality indicators were consistently lower in the South and Middle pools of Lake Conway. An increase in biochemical oxygen demand, chemical oxygen demand, solids, and nutrients occurred in the East and West pools of the system and a further increase in nutrients, solids, and chlorophyll concentrations was noted in Lake Gatlin. In general, phytoplankton productivity levels were low throughout the Lake Conway system. Nutrient levels were also low, correlating well with the low plankton productivity. Future comparisons should give particular attention to assessing any changes in nutrient and productivity levels and community succession.

29ERIC ED212033: Quality Control In Education? The Proceedings Of The Annual Conference Of The British Educational Management And Administration Society (9th, Glasgow, Great Britain, September 1980).

By

An introduction, keynote address, and 12 selected papers present the conference's proceedings. Also provided are summaries of the seven other conference papers and of the final plenary session, along with a list of conference participants. The keynote address questions whether quality control is possible in education. It notes that the concept of quality control needs broadening to be applied to education and that the educational processes of recognition (or credentialing), assessment, and intervention help widen the definition of quality control. The next five papers discuss the roles of the national government, school boards, regional advisory councils, and local educational agencies in England in educational quality control. The following section's three papers ponder the problems involved in improving education through staff development. These look at further (or adult) education institutions, management-staff conflict, and participative management in elementary and secondary schools. Two further papers review the "politics" of educational quality control, particularly the problems of value judgments in assessing quality and of teachers' reactions to school amalgamations that threaten jobs. Cost-benefit analysis is used in the final two papers to examine the costs of local educational inspectors and to suggest a method of monitoring educational efficiency. (Author/RW)
