2ERIC ED104181: The Endicott Report. Trends In Employment Of College And University Graduates In Business And Industry 1975. Twenty-Ninth Annual Report. A Survey Of 160 Well-Known Business And Industrial Concerns.

By

A total of 160 companies supplied information for the 29th annual report regarding the employment of college graduates in business. Most are large or medium-size corporations that regularly recruit college men and women. A total of 31 percent of these companies plan to contact fewer colleges in 1975, but 29 percent will contact more schools. The companies expect to hire almost exactly the number of men with bachelor's degrees they hired from 1974 classes. No decrease is indicated. Also, they expect to hire 7 percent more women graduates. In greatest demand are men in engineering, accounting, business administration, and sales, and women in accounting, general business, data processing, and engineering. Almost all of these companies will raise starting salaries. Predicted averages for 1975 indicate that bachelor's degree graduates in engineering will be offered about $1,062 per month, accountants about $990, graduates in business administration about $814, and liberal arts graduates about $776 per month. Almost all of the companies that reported starting salaries for both men and women indicated they were the same. Although there has been a somewhat restricted job market for college graduates in recent years, the responding companies report that from 23-33 percent of the men employed three years ago have left. 3St. FX Professor Raises Concerns About A Cluster Of Cases At The University

By

Days after St. FX's X-ring ceremony, public health is reporting a cluster of 12 cases on campus. The university says more cases are expected in the coming days, as public health investigates and others are tested. We ask a St. FX professor what the atmosphere is like on campus.

5ERIC ED492812: A Survey Of University Faculty Innovation Concerns And Perceptions That Influence The Adoption And Diffusion Of A Course Management System

By

Survey research was conducted to describe university faculty innovation concerns and perceptions that influence the adoption and diffusion of a course management system (CMS). Significant differences were found between adopters and nonadopters on their perceptions of the CMS attributes, on their Stages of Concern, and on their communication channels. Nonadopters' perceptions and concerns differed significantly across their intent to use the CMS. Implications for theory, practice, and research are discussed.

Researchers published a massive database of more than 2 billion Discord messages that they say they scraped using Discord’s public API. The data was pulled from 3,167 servers and covers posts made between 2015 and 2024, the entire time Discord has been active. Though the researchers claim they’ve anonymized the data, it’s hard to imagine anyone is comfortable with almost a decade of their Discord messages sitting in a public JSON file online. Separately, a different programmer released a Discord tool called "Searchcord" based on a different data set that shows non-anonymized chat histories. These two separate events have created some panic in some Discord communities, with server moderators and users worrying about their privacy. A team of 15 researchers at the Federal University of Minas Gerais in Brazil conducted the scrape as part of a research project. The team explained the how and why of the project in a paper titled Discord Unveiled: A Comprehensive Dataset of Public Communication (2015 - 2024), which they say was created so that other teams of researchers could have a database of online discussions to use when studying mental health and politics or training bots. “Throughout every step of our data collection process, we prioritized adherence to ethical standards,” they wrote in a section called ‘Ethical Concerns.’ “Precautions were taken to collect data responsibly. All data was sourced from groups that are explicitly considered public according to Discord’s terms of use, which every user agrees to upon signing up. The data was anonymized, and the methodology was detailed to promote reproducibility and transparency.” That may be the case, but Discord is designed to be a series of chatrooms which are not universally searchable, and which in their design feel far less public than, say, tweeting something or posting it to Reddit. #discord #brazil #brazilians #tech #news #technology #privacy

"Skill is laying the foundation for a brighter India. As John Ruskin puts it, "Skill is the unified force of experience, intellect, and passion in their operation." "Nation Building" is a herculean task that involves the government of the land, private and public institutions, industries, organisations, and every citizen there, holding accountability of its development inch by inch. India faces enormous problems in practically every aspect of national life as a young democratic nation with a multilingual, multicultural, and multiethnic population. Poverty, illiteracy, unequal and underdeveloped growth of diverse segments of the country, and insufficient infrastructure in educational and training institutions are all impeding the country's development. The insufficiently skilled workforce is unable to assume greater responsibilities in the development of a better nation. In India, there is now a scarcity of highly trained and skilled educators. Both in India and overseas, there is a considerable need for all levels of skilled labour, including semiskilled, skilled, highly skilled, and highly skilled with specialisation. Our youth will be more competent if we place a higher value on skill development.
