2Compact QED Tree-Level Amplitudes From Dressed BCFW Recursion Relations

We construct a modified on-shell BCFW recursion relation to derive compact analytic representations of tree-level amplitudes in QED. As an application, we study the amplitudes of a fermion pair coupling to an arbitrary number of photons and give compact formulae for the NMHV and NNMHV case. We demonstrate that the new recursion relation reduces the growth in complexity with additional photons to be exponential rather than factorial.

We review recent results on necessary and sufficient conditions for measures on $\mathbb{R}$ and $\partial\mathbb{D}$ to yield exponential decay of the recursion coefficients of the corresponding orthogonal polynomials. We include results on the relation of detailed asymptotics of the recursion coefficients to detailed analyticity of the measures. We present an analog of Carmona's formula for OPRL. A major role is played by the Szego and Jost functions.

We present an illative system I_s of classical higher-order logic with subtyping and basic inductive types. The system I_s allows for direct definitions of partial and general recursive functions, and provides means for handling functions whose termination has not been proven. We give examples of how properties of some recursive functions may be established in our system. In a technical appendix to the paper we prove consistency of I_s. The proof is by model construction. We then use this construction to show conservativity of I_s over classical first-order logic. Conservativity over higher-order logic is conjectured, but not proven.

7Recursion Relations From Space-time Supersymmetry

We describe a method for obtaining relations between higher derivative interactions in supersymmetric effective actions. The method extends to all orders in the momentum expansion. As an application, we consider the string coupling dependence of the \hat{G}^{2k} \lambda^{16} interaction in type IIB string theory. Using supersymmetry, we show that each of these interactions satisfies a Poisson equation on the moduli space with sources determined by lower momentum interactions. We argue that these protected couplings are only renormalized by a finite number of string loops together with non-perturbative terms. Finally, we explore some consequences of the Poisson equation for low values of k.

We derive the first ever on-shell recursion relations for amplitudes in effective field theories. Based solely on factorization and the soft behavior of amplitudes, these recursion relations employ a new rescaling momentum shift to construct all tree-level scattering amplitudes in theories like the non- linear sigma model, Dirac-Born-Infeld theory, and the Galileon. Our results prove that all theories with enhanced soft behavior are on-shell constructible.

10General Recursion Via Coinductive Types

A fertile field of research in theoretical computer science investigates the representation of general recursive functions in intensional type theories. Among the most successful approaches are: the use of wellfounded relations, implementation of operational semantics, formalization of domain theory, and inductive definition of domain predicates. Here, a different solution is proposed: exploiting coinductive types to model infinite computations. To every type A we associate a type of partial elements Partial(A), coinductively generated by two constructors: the first, return(a) just returns an element a:A; the second, step(x), adds a computation step to a recursive element x:Partial(A). We show how this simple device is sufficient to formalize all recursive functions between two given types. It allows the definition of fixed points of finitary, that is, continuous, operators. We will compare this approach to different ones from the literature. Finally, we mention that the formalization, with appropriate structural maps, defines a strong monad.

14Towards Rigorous Analysis Of The Levitov-Mirlin-Evers Recursion

This paper aims to develop a rigorous asymptotic analysis of an approximate renormalization group recursion for inverse participation ratios $P_q$ of critical powerlaw random band matrices. The recursion goes back to the work by Mirlin and Evers [37] and earlier works by Levitov [32, 33] and is aimed to describe the ensuing multifractality of the eigenvectors of such matrices. We point out both similarities and dissimilarities of LME recursion to those appearing in the theory of multiplicative cascades and branching random walks and show that the methods developed in those fields can be adapted to the present case. In particular the LME recursion is shown to exhibit a phase transition, which we expect is a freezing transition, where the role of temperature is played by the exponent $q$. However, the LME recursion has features that make its rigorous analysis considerably harder and we point out several open problems for further study

We present a recursive method to calculate the $\alpha'$-expansion of disk integrals arising in tree-level scattering of open strings which resembles the approach of Berends and Giele to gluon amplitudes. Following an earlier interpretation of disk integrals as doubly partial amplitudes of an effective theory of scalars dubbed as $Z$-theory, we pinpoint the equation of motion of $Z$-theory from the Berends-Giele recursion for its tree amplitudes. 21Augmented Space Recursion For Partially Disordered Systems

Off-stoichiometric alloys exhibit partial disorder, in the sense that only some of the sublattices of the stoichiometric ordered alloy become disordered. This paper puts forward a generalization of the augmented space recursion (ASR) (introduced earlier by one of us (Mookerjee et al 1997(*))) for systems with many atoms per unit cell. In order to justify the convergence properties of ASR we have studied the convergence of various moments of local density of states and other physical quantities like Fermi energy and band energy. We have also looked at the convergence of the magnetic moment of Ni, which is very sensitive to numerical approximations towards the k-space value 0.6 $\mu_{B}$ with the number of recursion steps prior to termination.

In this article, we prove that we can introduce a small $\hbar$ parameter in the six Painlev\'e equations through their corresponding Lax pairs and Hamiltonian formulations. Moreover, we prove that these $\hbar$-deformed Lax pairs satisfy the Topological Type property proposed by Berg\`ere, Borot and Eynard for any generic choice of the monodromy parameters. Consequently we show that one can reconstruct the formal $\hbar$ series expansion of the tau-function and of the determinantal formulas by applying the so-called topological recursion on the spectral curve attached to the Lax pair in all six Painlev\'e cases. Eventually we illustrate the former results with the explicit computations of the first orders of the six tau-functions.

We introduce an analytical iterative method, the density matrix recursion method, to generate arbitrary reduced density matrices of superpositions of short-range dimer coverings on periodic or non-periodic quantum spin-1/2 ladder lattices, with an arbitrary number of legs. The method can be used to calculate bipartite as well as multipartite physical properties, including bipartite and multi-partite entanglement. We apply this technique to distinguish between even- and odd-legged ladders. Specifically, we show that while genuine multi-partite entanglement decreases with increasing system size for the even-legged ladder states, it does the opposite for odd-legged ones.

We are interested in a devil's advocate that argues against termination of a program. He does so by producing a maleficent program that can cause the non-termination of the original program. By inspecting and running the malicious program, one may gain insight into the potential reasons for non-termination and produce counterexamples for termination. We introduce our method using the concurrent programming language Constraint Handling Rules (CHR). Like in other declarative languages, non-termination occurs through unbounded recursion. Given a self-recursive rule, we automatically generate one or more devil's rules from it. The construction of the devil's rules is straightforward and involves no guessing. The devil's rules can be simple. For example, they are non-recursive for rules with single recursion. We show that the devil's rules are maximally vicious in the following sense: For any program that contains the self-recursive rule and for any infinite computation through that rule in that program, there is a corresponding infinite computation with the recursive rule and the devil's rules alone. In that case, the malicious rules serve as a finite witness for non-termination. On the other hand, if the devil's rules do not exhibit an infinite computation, the recursive rule is unconditionally terminating. We also identify cases where the static analysis of the devil's rule decides termination or non-termination of the recursive rule.

We propose a new formalism for specifying and reasoning about problems that involve heterogeneous "pieces of information" -- large collections of data, decision procedures of any kind and complexity and connections between them. The essence of our proposal is to lift Codd's relational algebra from operations on relational tables to operations on classes of structures (with recursion), and to add a direction of information propagation. We observe the presence of information propagation in several formalisms for efficient reasoning and use it to express unary negation and operations used in graph databases. We carefully analyze several reasoning tasks and establish a precise connection between a generalized query evaluation and temporal logic model checking. Our development allows us to reveal a general correspondence between classical and modal logics and may shed a new light on the good computational properties of modal logics and related formalisms.

During the last twenty years or so a wide range of realizability interpretations of classical analysis have been developed. In many cases, these are achieved by extending the base interpreting system of primitive recursive functionals with some form of bar recursion, which realizes the negative translation of either countable or countable dependent choice. In this work we present the many variants of bar recursion used in this context as instantiations of a general, parametrised recursor, and give a uniform proof that under certain conditions this recursor realizes a corresponding family of parametrised dependent choice principles. From this proof, the soundness of most of the existing bar recursive realizability interpretations of choice, including those based on the Berardi-Bezem-Coquand functional, modified realizability and the more recent products of selection functions of Escard\'o and Oliva, follows as a simple corollary. We achieve not only a uniform framework in which familiar realizability interpretations of choice can be compared, but show that these represent just simple instances of a large family of potential interpretations of dependent choice principles.

The branching rules between simple Lie algebras and its regular (maximal) simple subalgebras are studied. Two types of recursion relations for anomalous relative multiplicities are obtained. One of them is proved to be the factorized version of the other. The factorization property is based on the existence of the set of weights $\Gamma$ specific for each injection. The structure of $\Gamma$ is easily deduced from the correspondence between the root systems of algebra and subalgebra. The recursion relations thus obtained give rise to simple and effective algorithm for branching rules. The details are exposed by performing the explicit decomposition procedure for $A_{3} \oplus u(1) \to B_{4}$ injection.

A new O(N) algorithm based on a recursion method, in which the computational effort is proportional to the number of atoms N, is presented for calculating the inverse of an overlap matrix which is needed in electronic structure calculations with the the non-orthogonal localized basis set. This efficient inverting method can be incorporated in several O(N) methods for diagonalization of a generalized secular equation. By studying convergence properties of the 1-norm of an error matrix for diamond and fcc Al, this method is compared to three other O(N) methods (the divide method, Taylor expansion method, and Hotelling's method) with regard to computational accuracy and efficiency within the density functional theory. The test calculations show that the new method is about one-hundred times faster than the divide method in computational time to achieve the same convergence for both diamond and fcc Al, while the Taylor expansion method and Hotelling's method suffer from numerical instabilities in most cases.

The explicit expression of the flow equations of the noncommutative Kadomtsev-Petviashvili(ncKP) hierarchy is derived. Compared with the flow equations of the KP hierarchy, our result shows that the additional terms in the flow equations of the ncKP hierarchy indeed consist of commutators of dynamical coordinates \{$u_i$\}. The recursion operator for the flow equations under $n$-reduction is presented. Further, under 2-reduction, we calculate a nonlocal recursion operator $\Phi(2)$ of the noncommutative Korteweg-de Vries(ncKdV) hierarchy, which generates a hierarchy of local, higher-order flows. Thus we solve the open problem proposed by P.J. Olver and V.V. Sokolov(Commun.Math.Phys. 193 (1998), 245-268).

We develop a new Monte Carlo variance reduction method to estimate the expectation of two commonly encountered path-dependent functionals: first-passage times and occupation times of sets. The method is based on a recursive approximation of the first-passage time probability and expected occupation time of sets of a Levy bridge process that relies in part on a randomisation of the time parameter. We establish this recursion for general Levy processes and derive its explicit form for mixed-exponential jump-diffusions, a dense subclass (in the sense of weak approximation) of Levy processes, which includes Brownian motion with drift, Kou's double-exponential model and hyper-exponential jump-diffusion models. We present a highly accurate numerical realisation and derive error estimates. By way of illustration the method is applied to the valuation of range accruals and barrier options under exponential Levy models and Bates-type stochastic volatility models with exponential jumps. Compared with standard Monte Carlo methods, we find that the method is significantly more efficient.

Despite decades of research, there are still a number of concepts commonly found in software programs that are considered challenging for verification: among others, such concepts include concurrency, and the compositional analysis of programs with procedures. As a promising direction to overcome such difficulties, recently the use of Horn constraints as intermediate representation of software programs has been proposed. Horn constraints are related to Craig interpolation, which is one of the main techniques used to construct and refine abstractions in verification, and to synthesise inductive loop invariants. We give a survey of the different forms of Craig interpolation found in literature, and show that all of them correspond to natural fragments of (recursion-free) Horn constraints. We also discuss techniques for solving systems of recursion-free Horn constraints.

Standard tracking algorithms involve processing measurements associated with a given target and forming an estimate of the target's state. However, many practical situations also include an uncertainty regarding the origin of the data. In the most general case one is faced with the problem of tracking targets in a multinsensor multitarget environment, possibly including highly dissimilar data types ranging from acoustic measurements to visual sightings. The term data association, as applied here, refers to the partitioning of a set of measurements according to their sources. Each such partition is termed a hypothesis, and the object is to find the best hypothesis. In this report the authors describe an algorithm which is intended to provide a general framework for data association. It is cast in a Bayesian context; that is, the relative merits of the hypotheses are evaluated in terms of their aposteriori probabilities. However, the presentation includes the development of a general data and scoring structure which should find application in most schemes which evaluate hypotheses recursively. In addition, a detailed model is provided for the case of bearings-only measurements in a convergence zone environment. The methodology used in developing this restricted case is considered a prototype for future models. (Author)
