The current study aims to investigate how rational thinking skills develop throughout university education, with a particular focus on comparing theoretical (psychology) and applied (health sciences) training programs. Rational thinking, in this context, is operationalized through multiple dimensions such as probabilistic reasoning, scientific reasoning, temporal discounting, and calibration of knowledge. The study also explores how cognitive dispositions and analytical thinking tendencies influence this development, and how it interacts with moral reasoning and belief systems over time. A central component of the research is the administration of the Assessment of Rational Thinking for Youth (ART-Y) battery (Toplak & Stanovich, 2024), which measures rationality across five subdomains: Probabilistic and Statistical Reasoning, Scientific Reasoning, Knowledge Calibration, Rational Temporal Discounting, and Avoidance of Framing. Based on recent empirical findings, the Avoidance of Framing subtest will be excluded due to its weak psychometric properties. The remaining subtests will be analyzed to evaluate differences between first-year and fourth-year students, as well as between students from psychology and health sciences departments. It is hypothesized that gains in rational thinking will be greater for curriculum-relevant subtests (e.g., scientific and probabilistic reasoning) among psychology students due to the nature of their theoretical training. To explain individual differences in rationality, two major constructs will be evaluated: cognitive dispositions and analytical thinking tendencies. Cognitive dispositions will be assessed using Newton et al.’s (2023) 4-Component Thinking Styles Questionnaire, which synthesizes the literature into four key domains: Actively Open-Minded Thinking (AOT), Preference for Effortful Thinking (PET), Preference for Intuitive Thinking (PIT), and Close Minded Thinking (CMT). Additionally, participants' analytical versus intuitive thinking style will be assessed via the Cognitive Reflection Test (CRT) (Frederick, 2005), a well-established measure of reflective thinking. Building on dual-process and developmental rationality theories, the study proposes that AOT and PET will mediate or moderate the relationship between academic experience and rational performance. It is also hypothesized that CRT scores will improve over academic years, particularly in psychology students, and will partially mediate rational thinking improvements. Beyond cognitive variables, the study explores moral and belief-related outcomes expected to co-develop with rationality. Specifically, we predict that students scoring higher in rational thinking and cognitive dispositions will show stronger endorsement of individualizing moral foundations (Care/Harm, Fairness/Cheating) and greater moral relativism. These constructs will be measured using the Moral Foundations Questionnaire-2 (MFQ-2) (Zakharin & Bates, 2023)and a shortened version of the Ethical Position Questionnaire (EPQ-5) (O’Boyle & Forsyth, 2021), which retains only the items measuring relativism. The study will also investigate the association between rational thinking and religious belief change (Stagnaro & Pennycook, 2025), a relatively underexplored area in Turkish samples. two custom items assessing belief revision tendencies will be included. It is hypothesized that participants with higher rationality, especially those with high AOT and PET scores, will be more likely to report having reevaluated or changed their religious beliefs. To provide a well-rounded profile, demographic and background variables will also be collected, including university entrance exam rankings, parental education level, political orientation, religiosity, and grades from statistics courses. These variables may serve as covariates in the analyses. Data will be collected from six groups: first- and fourth-year students from psychology, speech and language therapy, and nutrition and dietetics programs. The study will be conducted over the course of a single academic semester. Testing sessions will take place in classroom settings, divided into two parts (each lasting approximately 25–30 minutes) to reduce cognitive fatigue and ensure focus. Participants will complete the study in a quiet and structured environment prior to their regular course hours. Participation will be voluntary and informed consent will be obtained. Students will receive 2 bonus points for their involvement, as permitted within the scope of course evaluation guidelines. Through this multi-method, cross-sectional design, the study aims to generate novel insights into how rationality, cognitive style, moral reasoning and belief change co-develop across disciplines and educational stages, while also contributing culturally relevant data to the literature.

Through a combination of situational experiments and multi-wave data collection, we explored the mechanism of AI-induced knowledge redundancy on knowledge sharing. This study combined the mediating roles of responsibility dispersion and knowledge self-efficacy to reveal the psychological paths of individual knowledge-sharing behaviors under the AI intervention situation, and further introduced the moderating roles of AI trust and coworker relationships. The results of the study provide empirical basis for understanding how AI reshapes individual responsibility attribution, thus revealing the intrinsic mechanism of AI reshaping the motivation of knowledge sharing, and providing theoretical basis and practical inspiration for constructing a more motivational human-machine collaborative knowledge management system.This study has received ethical approval by Yangzhou University (YXYLL-2025-85).

The book is intended to ground beginners in Structural Botany and the principles of vegetable life, mainly as concerns Flowering or Phanerogamous plants, with which botanical instruction should always begin; also to be a companion and interpreter to the Manuals and Floras by which the student threads his flowery way to a clear knowledge of the surrounding vegetable creation. Such a book, like a grammar, must needs abound in technical words, which thus arrayed may seem formidable; nevertheless, if rightly apprehended, this treatise should teach that the study of botany is not the learning of names and terms, but the acquisition of knowledge and ideas. No effort should be made to commit technical terms to memory. Any term used in describing a plant or explaining its structure can be looked up when it is wanted, and that should suffice. Asa Gray was a highly-regarded botanist at Harvard University and a friend and collaborator of Charles Darwin. As a Christian, Gray was concerned with the disconnect developing through the nineteenth century between the growing understanding of the natural world and the traditional worldview assumed by orthodox Christianity. A collection of some of the most significant literary work on the English Lake District prior to Thomas West’s A guide to the Lakes (1778). The poet Thomas Gray takes the reader from Brough south to Kendal on his return from a tour in Scotland. An agricultural reformer, Arthur Young, also returning from Scotland, begins his journey in the northern parts of Cumberland with dry descriptions of local farming, but on arriving in Keswick, his account turns to the picturesque scenery around Derwent Water, Ullswater and Windermere. ‘Wild and romantic’ is Young’s phrase, yet the agriculturalist in him comes to the fore as he declares the enclosed landscapes around Kendal and Windermere to be the most picturesque of all. Thomas Pennant’s account of his journey through the district is cursory, and he seems not have noticed the lakes or mountains at all. West’s Guide quotes Gray, Young and Pennant, and its second edition included the full text of Gray’s unpublished letters as an addendum. It also included four short pieces. John Brown’s letter to his former pupil William Gilpin (who would become the foremost exponent of the ‘picturesque’) connects the scenery of the Lakes to European landscape painting. Experimental philosopher Adam Walker provides a note on a local curiosity, the underground passages of Dunald Mill Hole.
