74. Comp Sci IJCSEITR Inheritance In Object Oriented Programming Easiest Way To Teach

By

When we are talking about Object-Oriented programming, the first strike of everyone’s mind is object and class. Object and Class are core concepts to build Object-Oriented programming. C++ have some basic features: simple, easy to use, portable, syntax based, object based, robust, platform dependent and much built in libraries. There are some other basic features of Object Oriented Programming: Data abstraction, Encapsulation, Dynamic Binding, Inheritance and Polymorphism. Here we will see how to teach inheritance in C++ by different examples.

16A Comparison Of NOOP To Structural Domain-Theoretic Models Of Object-Oriented Programming

By

Mainstream object-oriented programming languages such as Java, C#, C++ and Scala are all almost entirely nominally-typed. NOOP is a recently developed domain-theoretic model of OOP that was designed to include full nominal information found in nominally-typed OOP. This paper compares NOOP to the most widely known domain-theoretic models of OOP, namely, the models developed by Cardelli and Cook, which were structurally-typed models. Leveraging the development of NOOP, the comparison presented in this paper provides a clear and precise mathematical account for the relation between nominal and structural OO type systems.

28ERIC ED396680: Object-Oriented Programming In High Schools The Turing Way.

By

This paper proposes an approach to introducing object-oriented concepts to high school computer science students using the Object-Oriented Turing (OOT) language. Students can learn about basic object-oriented (OO) principles such as classes and inheritance by using and expanding a collection of classes that draw pictures like circles and happy faces. Materials are outlined for a two-week teaching unit which support this approach. The units cover: (1) three foundational OO concepts: objects, classes and inheritance; (2) diagrams and relations; (3) software development environments; (4) the OOT language and environment; (5) OOT in an undergraduate curriculum; and (6) OOT at the high school level. (Contains 17 references.) (Author/BEW)

33A Programming Environment Evaluation Methodology For Object-Oriented Systems

By

The object-oriented design strategy as both a problem decomposition and system development paradigm has made impressive inroads into the various areas of the computing sciences. Substantial development productivity improvements have been demonstrated in areas ranging from artificial intelligence to user interface design. However, there has been very little progress in the formal characterization of these productivity improvements and in the identification of the underlying cognitive mechanisms. The development and validation of models and metrics of this sort require large amounts of systematically-gathered structural and productivity data. There has, however, been a notable lack of systematically-gathered information on these development environments. A large part of this problem is attributable to the lack of a systematic programming environment evaluation methodology that is appropriate to the evaluation of object-oriented systems.

38DTIC ADA284924: Design Of A Parallel Object Oriented Programming Language

By

Object-oriented programming techniques have become a vital part of modern software engineering. Most large new commercial software products are designed today using objects oriented principles along with supporting development environments and tools. Such methodology is particularly appealing for parallel computing, where there is great need for approaches capable of simplifying the programming task and producing high quality software more quickly. In this project we have carried out research that will lead to a new parallel object-oriented language based on C++. The new language, C++-Linda, is a novel combination of the most widely used object-oriented language and a successful environment for parallel computing that supports a virtual shared memory model for process interaction. This combination is an especially appropriate one because Linda's memory model is naturally object-oriented, enabling a seamless design that is completely consistent with object-oriented methodology. In this Phase I project, we have carried out research to understand the basic issues underlying parallel object-oriented languages, and we have created a preliminary design for C++-Linda. In a future Phase II project, we plan to develop a prototype implementation that will serve as a guide for eventual commercialization. Parallel computing, Programming languages, Object-oriented languages, Linda, C++-Linda, (C++).

46DTIC ADA242673: Application Of Object-Oriented Programming To Combat Modeling And Simulation

By

The Department of Defense (DOD) has defined modeling and simulation as an area of technology critical to long-term U.S. national security. Research in this area by the U.S. Army Construction Engineering Research Laboratory (USACERL) has included the development of the Force Structure Tradeoff Analysis Model (FSTAM) combat engineering modeling and simulation program for the U.S. Army Engineer School (USAES). Recent advances in object-oriented programming and hypertext systems have helped stimulate interest is upgrading FSTAM. As part of a separate-but-related initiative, Analysis Command of the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) sponsored the development of ModSim, an object- oriented programming language for simulation applications. This language was recognized as a highly valuable tool for application in the planned upgrade of FSTAM. This report describes USACERL's application of object-oriented programming techniques to the development of combat simulations-specifically, combat engineer functional representations. Included is discussion of current research prototypes of FSTAM 2.0 and an enhanced version of ModSim.

49DTIC ADA274004: Proposed Object Oriented Programming (OOP) Enhancements To The Very High Speed Integrated Circuits (VHSIC) Hardware Description Language (VHDL)

By

This report describes an integrated set of Object Oriented Programming (OOP) enhancements proposed for a future revision of the VHSIC hardware Description Language (VHDL). It offers inheritance with extension for VHDL record, array and private type declarations, plus multiple inheritance with extension for entities and corresponding architecture bodies, and a class wide dispatching capability for all tagged types and tagged entities. If these three enhancements are accepted by the IEEE, VHDL based design automation tools can possess new abstract design capabilities for developing and enhancing electronic hardware. Current software languages with OOP capability increase productivity and reuse by enabling the design process to inherit and extend existing data structures and functionality. By selectively inheriting what already exists, the designer minimizes duplication. Functional capabilities and characteristics can be inherited and extended without affecting existing portions of a design. VHDL, IEEE 1076, Design language, Hardware description language, OOP, Object oriented programming.

2Brownies and Prince Florimel

By

Book's cover

After Prince Florimel flees his home (and a particularly nasty uncle) he has a series of adventures with the mischevious but helpful Brownies, Queen Titania and her fairies, and the ill-tempered enchanter, Dragonfel.<p> Reader's note: Although some terms in this 1918 book are not really acceptable anymore, the book’s overall message that people should not be judged by their size is still a worthy lesson today. - Summary by Jude Somers

3Crusades

By

The Crusades were a series of religious wars fought between 1096 and 1272 to recover the Holy Land from Islamic rule. According to the Latin Church, Crusaders were penitent pilgrims whose sins were forgiven. British historian, George Cox, writes of the churchmen, great and small, who inspired the Crusades, of the warriors who left families and lands behind, of the wily Venetian merchants and Byzantine emperors who exploited the knights, and of the valor of the Saracens. Here are accounts of sublime sacrifice and bestial ferocity, of dynastic conflict within the Crusader States, of sieges, starvation, pestilence, and ambush, and of the clash and interpenetration of two cultures. - Summary by Pamela Nagami, M.D.

7Fearsome Creatures of the Lumberwoods

By

A limbless reptilian monster that propels itself through the swamps with a propellor-tipped tail? A creature so ashamed of its monstrous appearance that it dissolves into tears when captured? Learn about the snoligoster, the squonk and many other 'fearsome critters' in this field guide written and illustrated by two North American foresters who know them well. Listeners who suspect that these creatures are the stuff of tall tales, will nevertheless do well to look out for slide-rock bolters when vacationing in the Colorado mountains. - Summary by Phil Benson

8Athenian Empire

By

The British historian, George W. Cox writes that the "whole duration of the Athenian empire extends over little more than two generations." This confederation of Greek city states with Athens at its head was an attempt to present a unified front to the Persian Empire. But ultimately, the strife between democratic and oligarchic factions within each polis, combined with the tangle of alliances between the various city states, led to the ruinous and protracted Peloponnesian War. In this short work, Cox describes the battles on land and sea, and such personalities as the Athenian general, Nikias, his Spartan counterpart, Agis, and, above all, unprincipled, charismatic Alcibiades. 9Lives of Greek Statesmen

By

In the darkest days of the Persian War when the armies of Xerxes were overrunning northern Greece, Athens faced destruction. The desperate Athenians consulted the oracle at Delphi, who answered, "For thus saith Zeus, that when all else within the land of Cecrops is wasted, the wooden wall alone shall not be taken." The British historian, George Cox agrees with many other authorities that the Greek statesman, Themistocles, bribed the oracle. Realizing that their survival depended upon a strong navy, he declared that the prophesy meant that the Persians would be defeated, not by fortifying Athens, but by "the fight at sea, for the fleet is your wooden wall." This book is a short history of the founding fathers of Athens, its lawgivers, tyrants, and generals: Solon, Peisistratos, Kleisthenes, Miltiades, Aristeides, and, above all, Themistocles. 10Letters from Great Musicians to Young People

By

The object of this little book is to bring the reader nearer to the great masters in the realm of music, and make him or her acquainted with the man who worked, played, and suffered as do other men. Though confining themselves to a simple style, the authors have tried to enter into the life of each composer, and, wherever possible, by means of earnest study of letters and other data which have come down to us, to copy that composer's tricks of speech, manner of writing, and various idiosyncracies. - Summary by Preface
