11The Role Of Facebook In Crush The Crave, A Mobile- And Social Media-Based Smoking Cessation Intervention: Qualitative Framework Analysis Of Posts.
By Ploderer, Bernd, Greenseid, Lija, Sadasivam, Rajani Shankar, Struik, Laura Louise and Baskerville, Neill Bruce
This article is from Journal of Medical Internet Research , volume 16 . Abstract Background: Social networking sites, particularly Facebook, are increasingly included in contemporary smoking cessation interventions directed toward young adults. Little is known about the role of Facebook in smoking cessation interventions directed toward this age demographic. Objective: The aim of this study was to characterize the content of posts on the Facebook page of Crush the Crave, an evidence-informed smoking cessation intervention directed toward young adults aged 19 to 29 years. Methods: Crush the Crave Facebook posts between October 10, 2012 and June 12, 2013 were collected for analysis, representing page activity during the pilot phase of Crush the Crave. Of the 399 posts included for analysis, 121 were original posts, whereas the remaining 278 were reply posts. Posts were coded according to themes using framework analysis. Results: We found that the original Crush the Crave Facebook posts served two main purposes: to support smoking cessation and to market Crush the Crave. Most of the original posts (86/121, 71.1%) conveyed support of smoking cessation through the following 7 subthemes: encouraging cessation, group stimulation, management of cravings, promoting social support, denormalizing smoking, providing health information, and exposing tobacco industry tactics. The remaining original posts (35/121, 28.9%) aimed to market Crush the Crave through 2 subthemes: Crush the Crave promotion and iPhone 5 contest promotion. Most of the reply posts (214/278, 77.0%) were in response to the supporting smoking cessation posts and the remaining 64 (23.0%) were in response to the marketing Crush the Crave posts. The most common response to both the supporting smoking cessation and marketing Crush the Crave posts was user engagement with the images associated with each post at 40.2% (86/214) and 45% (29/64), respectively. The second most common response consisted of users sharing their smoking-related experiences. More users shared their smoking-related experiences in response to the supporting smoking cessation posts (81/214, 37.9%) compared to the marketing Crush the Crave posts (11/64, 17%). With the exception of 4 posts, a moderator posted all the original posts. In addition, although 56.00% (18,937/33,815) of Crush the Crave Facebook page users were men, only 19.8% (55/278) of the reply posts were made by men. Finally, men were found to be more likely to express sarcasm or make strong assertions about quitting smoking and Crush the Crave than women. Conclusions: The CTC Facebook page presents as a unique platform for supporting young adult smoking cessation at all stages of the cessation process. The findings of this study indicate that social networking sites, especially Facebook, warrant inclusion in tobacco control efforts directed towards young adults. Research on effectiveness of the Facebook page for quitting smoking is needed.

13Windows Media Player For Mobile And Pocket PC
By Microsoft
Who says palm-sized PCs are just for keeping your schedule? Microsoft is looking to provide a little audio entertainment for devices running its Windows CE operating system, with the release of Windows Media Player for personal digital assistants (PDA). The last version of the player lets users download MP3 and Windows Media Format audio files to the latest Compaq, Casio and Hewlett-Packard palm-sized computers. With a 64M-byte flash memory card, users can store up to two hours of Windows Media Format content or one hour of the popular MP3 audio. Windows Media Player for Handheld PC lets you enjoy high-quality digital music with your stereo-enabled Handheld PC. Simply download some music from top music Web sites or copy from your own CD library. With Windows Media Player on your PC, seamlessly transfer music to your Handheld PC so you can enjoy the freedom of taking your music with you wherever you go without the burden of additional CDs or tape players. Windows Media Player for Palm-size PC is free software from Microsoft that pumps high-quality stereo music through the Palm-size PC you already own. Just download some music from top music Web sites, or copy from your own CD library to your Palm-size PC. You can then take your music with you, free from the burden or weight of extra CDs or tape players. Windows Media Player for Palm-size PC may become your favorite feature on your Casio, Hewlett-Packard, or Compaq Palm-size PC. Windows Media Player for Pocket PC works with Microsoft Windows Media Services to enable wireless streaming solutions (compatible with IRDA, serial, 802.3 Ethernet, and 802.11 wireless Ethernet). Surf your favorite music or video site with Internet Explorer for Pocket PC, then click to enjoy streamed music or videos with the Technology Preview release. You can also play back audio and video files that have already been downloaded on your Pocket PC. While Microsoft is targeting the consumer looking to download digital music from the Internet, the WinCE version of Windows Media Player can also be used for corporate communications. Companies can distribute CEO speeches and training information to users, who can then transfer the audio files to their WinCE device using Microsoft’s Windows Media Manager. Users can also convert just about any audio format to the Windows Media Format using the Windows Media Encoder. So instead of sending CDs to remote sites containing audio files, companies can distribute the information across a network and have users listen on their desktops or palm PC devices. From a production standpoint, it is easier to distribute information across the Internet in real time than to record the audio, burn a CD and ship it out through snail mail. Though the desktop version of Windows Media Player supports audio and video, it will be a while before users can watch videos on their PDAs.

19Digital 2019 Report: Essential Insights Into How People Around The World Use The Internet, Mobile Devices, Social Media, And E-Commerce
By We Are Social - Hootsuite
I say this in my introduction to our Global Digital Reports every year, but the past twelve months really have seen impressive growth across all things digital. This year’s collection of 230+ reports reveals some striking new numbers in countries all across the globe, with developing economies showing some particularly strong growth. The big story in this year’s data is the accelerating growth in internet users. More than 360 million people came online for the first time during 2018, at an average rate of more than 1 million new users each day. 57 percent of the world’s population is now connected to the internet, with trends indicating that all of the original ‘Next Billion Users’ are now online. We’re spending significant amounts of time online, too. The average internet user now spends more than 61⁄2 hours online each day, meaning that the world’s digital community will spend a combined total of more than 1.2 billion years using the internet in 2019. Social media continues to account for the greatest share of that time, and the average user spends more time on social today than they did this time last year. The number of social media users around the world has increased by more than 280 million since January 2018, but there have also been some user declines across some of the world’s top social platforms. To help you make sense of this changing social landscape, we’ve included detailed data by platform across all of our reports. Mobile users grew by a more modest 100 million over the past year, but that slower growth is perhaps to be expected, given that two-thirds of the world’s population already uses a mobile. However, mobile has helped fuel strong growth in e-commerce over the past year, with m-commerce and mobile wallets playing an increasingly important role in the lives of people all across the globe. This year’s reports also take a closer look at some of the more recent additions to the digital landscape, including the growing use of voice control, and public adoption of cryptocurrencies. Best of all, we’re making this year’s full collection of 5,000+ charts available for free. You’ll find details of how to download everything over the next few pages, but be sure to check out the links to our wonderful data partners at the end of this report to find even more rich data and insights. But with that, let’s get stuck into the numbers. Here’s to another year of impressive digital growth in 2019!

21Mobile Media And Sleep: A Systematic Review
By Astrid Jansen
The goal of this project is to obtain a systematic assessment of the associations between mobile media use variables and distinct sleep parameters investigated in current research. Considering the increasing use of mobile media in everyday life and especially in the evening before sleep as well as the rising numbers of self-reported sleep problems in the population, one can observe a growing interest and an increase of studies in this research area. However, there is a relatively large disparity in current research with regard to the variables investigated and the respective results. The same applies to the target groups and samples studied. In addition, evening media use tends to be examined in an aggregated manner (e.g., duration, frequency of media as aggregated term) rather than looking at the respective forms of use in a differentiated way. To date, we still have limited understanding of the respective mechanisms of action that operate at a more granular level such as contents, reception modes or modes of use. Recently, reviews were published that have started to systematise study findings in this realm. These reviews show different research scopes regarding the media use variables that affect sleep such as social media, problematic internet use or use of portable devices (cf. Alimoradi et al., 2019; Carter et al., 2016; Hale et al., 2019; Kaur et al., 2021). Furthermore, these studies focused mostly on younger samples including children, adolescents and young adults. The planned study intends to make a contribution by updating the current state of research and by taking a more differentiated look at the use of mobile media. Moreover, the study itends to outline potential improvements that have been made in recent years in terms of research designs, variable selection and theoretical concepts. Therefore, the study will focus on 1) different mobile devices, reception modes and content in relation to the distinct sleep parameters, and more specific 2) the direction of effects and effect sizes in those relations as well as 3) the measurement instruments used to assess those relations. Moreover, the study will systematically capture 4) the theoretical concepts the findings are based on and take 5) research designs and sample compositions (all age groups) into account. Finally, 6) recommendations and implications for future research shall be derived. The literature review shall comprise all eligible studies published in research so far (no time limitations).

24Unlocking The Limitedness On Promotion: Augmenting A Web-based Mobile Promotional Media For Delivery Services At A Homeware Company
By Normaliza, Novi Hendri Adi, Weni Lestari Putri, Win Thu Zar
As information technology develops, the utilization of the internet as a business platform has increased significantly, allowing companies to promote their products and services more widely and efficiently. This research explores the development of a mobile website for a homeware company in Batam, which currently relies on online platforms such as Shopee and Tokopedia. This dependency causes limitations in reaching customers optimally. Therefore, this research proposes the development of mobile web-based promotional media using the Waterfall method, which includes the stages of need analysis, system design, implementation, testing, and maintenance. This method was chosen to ensure a systematic approach in designing and developing a responsive and appropriate website. Using Unified Modeling Language (UML) in system design possibly allows clear visualization and effective stakeholder communication. The implementation conducted by employing PHP, MySQL, and CodeIgniter framework resulted in a website which is expected to be able to fulfil the functional and non-functional needs of the company. The results show that developing this mobile web-based promotion system can potentially increase the company's market reach and operational efficiency as well as provide easy access for customers. This research provides an innovative model for similar companies to adopt digital technology to improve their business competitiveness.

25ERIC EJ1105726: Fueling A Third Paradigm Of Education: The Pedagogical Implications Of Digital, Social And Mobile Media
By ERIC
Emerging technologies are fueling a third paradigm of education. Digital, networked and mobile media are enabling a disruptive transformation of the teaching and learning process. This paradigm challenges traditional assumptions that have long characterized educational institutions and processes, including basic notions of space, time, content, and learning outcomes. Innovative educators have an opportunity to blend face-to-face and digital learning models to advance an engaged, effective, efficient and affordable model of learning in the 21st century. 30ERIC ED557207: Mobile Learning And Art Museums: A Case Study Of A New Art Interpretation Approach For Visitor Engagement Through Mobile Media
By ERIC
Nowadays Mobile technologies in Museums and especially in Art Museums are a popular way of communication with their audiences. These kinds of technologies have a high communicative potential and also could be a tool for marketing, information, engagement and learning as well. However with regards how these resources explain the meaning of works of art, generally they maintain the same language of the traditional and passive resources like texts, labels or brochures, especially when the involved audience is general public. This means that Art interpretation is still based on formal description. On the contrary, Mobile Media provide new opportunities of interaction with audiences; the visitors could visit a Museum from their couch; or even they could create content about a painting through their mobile devices. Therefore, if the media of communication with the audiences of Art Museums are changing, there must be a change of how art is explained. Accordingly, this paper examines a case study developed in a wider research about Art interpretation and Mobile Media in which a new message to explain Art is explored. This new Art interpretation approach combines the contributions of Cognitive Phycology about Art perception and the possibilities of interaction of Mobile and digital technologies. The case study has been conducted in a local museum whose collection consists mostly of sculptures and paintings from the Nineteenth and the Twenty centuries, especially Catalan Art from this period. A blog called "A small exhibition of Deu Museum", tablets and QR codes were used for the development of the fieldwork. However, according to the conceptual framework of the research, the most important thing is the content that is behind the QR codes. Also the preliminary results are exposed in this paper. [This article is part of the lines of research R & D project edu2011-28684 entitled: Educational Musealization of Heritage Spaces Based on Reactive Applications and Multiplatform Contents: Mobile Phones and Touchscreens.] [For the complete proceedings, see ED557171.]
