\"Be the person you needed when you were younger.\"-Chris MosierWith elections looming, the scope of human rights is being hotly debated - and soon to be cast across ballots.In the crosshairs is gender politics - specifically transgender rights - a vital subject of contention I admit to understanding less than I should.So let's talk about it.To anchor this exploration I reached out to Chris Mosier - arguably the most prominent and accomplished transgender athlete working to progress cultural perceptions and activate legislative change.You may recognize Chris from the viral Nike commercial that aired during the 2016 Rio Olympics. In addition to being the first transgender athlete to be sponsored by Nike, Chris holds the distinction of being the first trans athlete ever to be featured in the ESPN Body Issue.Among his many accomplishments, Chris is a hall of fame triathlete, All-American duathlete, 2-time National Champion, and a 6-time member of Team USA. In 2015 he became the first known transgender man to represent the United States in international competition.More recently, he picked up the sport of race walking and rapidly distinguished himself, becoming the first openly transgender athlete to compete in an Olympic Trials in a category different than their sex assigned at birth.As an activist, Chris has spent years at the forefront of the LGBTQ+ rights movement, paving a more inclusive path for future trans athletes. In 2015, he was the catalyst for changing the International Olympic Committee's policy on transgender athletes to provide such individuals with the right to represent their country at the Olympic Games. And in 2016, Chris drove further policy change within the IOC, expanding the rights of transgender athletes to take part in the Olympic Games without the previously required necessity of gender reassignment surgery.Profiled everywhere from Rolling Stone to the New York Times, Chris is also the founder of Transathlete.com, a resource for students, athletes, coaches, and administrators to find information about trans inclusion in athletics at various levels of play. He has mentored transgender athletes around the globe, from high school and recreational to the professional levels, and helped teams, leagues, and professional sports leagues create gender-inclusive policies.Aside from his physical prowess, what impresses me most about Chris is his courage. He had the option to stay silent - to make the most of his passing privilege without enduring the scrutiny that accompanies a public coming out. But he did so to set precedent. To change public perception. And stand as a beacon of hope and possibility for those who will come after him.This is a conversation about Chris's unique life. His transition. His trials. The text is massive and interesting, and there are several important maps of America: America, West Indies, Mexico, Louisiana, Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania et al, and Newfoundland et al. Bétonsalon - Centre d'art et de recherche  welcomes artists Jasmina Metwaly and Philip Rizk, as well as editor and filmmaker Louly Seif, for a conversation around their film “Out on the Street”, screened in the exhibition “Co-Workers” till January 30. The film, which features nine non-professional actors from a working class neighborhood in Cairo, performs the events around the privatization of a public factory. “Out on the Street” interlaces footage from an acting workshop carried out with the workers, with scenes the same workers performed - both experienced confrontations at work, with the police, or imagined scenarios of what might have happened.  The conversation between the two directors and editor will examine into depth how the process based approach developed during the filming continued into the period of montage. While dealing with the real flesh of life stories, the making of “Out on the Street” engages the realm of make-belief, and questions how to fictionally re-constitute the past. The filmmakers will discuss the relationship between film-making and history-making, in this case elaborated through a dialogue with three voices in the editing suite.

"Making History is a 15 minutes of fame, fortune, and fax machines." Opened February at 5:45 pm, it is a fax performance organized by the Research Center for Validity Testing. It is created as a parody of the history making process in design. 1500 designers were contacted through an enormous email, fax and regular mail solicitation to participate in the demonstration. Designers were asked to fax their interpretation of their design practice as recorded 15 min prior to the exhibition's opening. Following the 15 minutes interval the gallery received over 200 responses from 6 machines, instantly documenting 15 min of design history.

Dissent is a critical part of the democratic process in America. To establish and protect democracy, dissenting viewpoints must be integrated into a coherent national strategy. Leading strategic teams to make effective decisions requires the leader to develop a group culture that not only tolerates but elicits dissent and molds strategic coherence out of differing opinions and priorities. Strategic leaders must proactively elicit dissent as part of their team process or the decision-making process will break down and groupthink will ensue. Dissent occurs in two types, internal to the decision-making team, and external to it. Both are important, but effectively integrated internal dissent both improves the decision-making process and can pre-empt the need for external dissent. The main outcome of failed strategic decision-making is groupthink. History is full of examples of leaders who dissented on vital strategic decisions but were overruled by groupthink, resulting in disaster on a national scale. This paper will investigate historical decision-making examples to illuminate the democratic underpinnings of dissent, and the breakdown in decision-making process that results in groupthink and disaster.

This is essential for proper object locality with NUMA and also important to ensure that the kernel can defragment memory properly so that data can be place closely together and to enable to use of huge or giant pages. Over time most Linux systems today require a reboot because performance will suffer as memory becomes more and more fragmented. Servers and devices need to be periodically rebooted. The more complex our kernels become the more different sizes of objects are needed. Growth of complexity results in more opportunities for fragmentation and thus more issues with slowdowns and sluggish behavior. The first implementation on this level was page migration in 2004 which made pages mapped into a user process movable. Then later CMA added the ability to move larger sets of kernel pages that are not on the LRU used for user space pages. This approach may be extended and the hooks used for also making slab objects movable using some callbacks. This could enable much better defragmentation and avoid the need to have to debug Linux systems regularly.
