We investigate and report an experimental confirmation of zero-lag synchronization (ZLS) in a system of three coupled time-delayed piecewise linear electronic circuits via dynamical relaying with different coupling configurations, namely mutual and subsystem coupling configurations. We have observed that when there is a feedback between the central unit (relay unit) and at least one of the outer units, ZLS occurs in the two outer units whereas the central and outer units exhibit inverse phase synchronization (IPS). We find that in the case of mutual coupling configuration ZLS occurs both in periodic and hyperchaotic regimes, while in the subsystem coupling configuration it occurs only in the hyperchaotic regime. Snapshots of the time evolution of outer circuits as observed from the oscilloscope confirm the occurrence of ZLS experimentally. The quality of ZLS is numerically verified by correlation coefficient and similarity function measures. Further, the transition to ZLS is verified from the changes in the largest Lyapunov exponents and the correlation coefficient as a function of the coupling strength. IPS is experimentally confirmed using time series plots and also can be visualized using the concept of localized sets which are also corroborated by numerical simulations. In addition, we have calculated the correlation of probability of recurrence to quantify the phase coherence. We have also analytically derived a sufficient condition for the stability of ZLS using the Krasovskii-Lyapunov theory.

We design a circuit structure with linear depth to implement an $n$-qubit Toffoli gate. The proposed construction uses a quadratic-size circuit consists of elementary 2-qubit controlled-rotation gates around the x axis and uses no ancilla qubit. Circuit depth remains linear in quantum technologies with finite-distance interactions between qubits. The suggested construction is related to the long-standing construction by Barenco et al. (Phys. Rev. A, 52: 3457-3467, 1995, arXiv:quant-ph/9503016), which uses a quadratic-size, quadratic-depth quantum circuit for an $n$-qubit Toffoli gate.

This final report describes the results obtained on a study of the reliability of linear integrated circuits. The objective of the contract was to investigate and determine the basic failure mechanisms associated with linear microcircuits fabricated in ceramic and plastic packages. The type of test vehicle chosen for this program was the 741 operational amplifier. Two of the five vehicles chosen for the program were manufactured by one supplier with half of the devices encapsulated in ceramic packages and the other half encapsulated in silicone plastic. The devices fabricated by the other supplier included three packaging variations: the first was a ceramic package with conventional metallization and wire bonding, the second was a plastic encapsulated package with conventional metallization and wire bonding, and the third was a plastic encapsulated package utilizing a gang bonding technique. In addition, Test Element Groups (TEGs) were fabricated using the last three packaging techniques. The test plan for these devices was designed to include both step-stress and long-term stress-in-time tests. The stresses were chosen to identify any failure mechanisms that could be activated by high temperature, temperature cycling, salt atmosphere, steam pressure and high humidity environments.

The work presented in this report deals with the development of a fast and fairly accurate Computer-Aided Design software for simulating very-large-scale-integrated (VLSI) circuits. The methods rely on piecewise linearized nonlinear elements in the circuits. The piecewise linear approaches explored in this work are: (1) a fast piecewise linear Gauss-Seidel waveform relaxation method; (2) a slower but more accurate piecewise linear method based on simplices; and (3) a Gauss-Seidel piecewise linear method with dynamic partitioning. Also described is a mixed method which combines the fast piecewise linear method and the dynamic partitioning method. The circuit to be analyzed is partitioned into dc-connected subcircuits and then sequenced for analysis. Small subcircuits are solved using the fast piecewise linear method while large subcircuits, including the strongly connected components in the circuit, are solved using the dynamic partitioning method. A parallel implementation of the Gauss-Seidel piecewise linear method with dynamic partitioning on a uniprocessor computer is studied. Algorithms for the parallel implementation of the dynamic partitioning approach on a multiprocessor with shared memory (Alliant FX/8) are also explained in detail. The piecewise linear methods presented in this work have been implemented in a set of programs called PLATINUM. The waveforms generated by PLATINUM are fairly accurate as compared to those for SPICE2, and the speedup for a uniprocessor machine is over two orders of magnitude, while the parallel implementation gives an additional 4 to 6 times speed improvements.

Using a technique, analogous to coherent population trapping in an atomic system, we propose schemes to create transverse light propagation violating left-right symmetry in a photonic circuit consisting of three coupled waveguides. The frequency windows for the symmetry breaking of the left-right energy flow span over 200 \nano \meter. Our proposed system only uses linear passive optical materials and is easy to integrate on a chip.

In this paper, we investigate how quantum architectures affect the efficiency of the execution of the quantum Fourier transform (QFT) and linear transformations, which are essential parts of the stabilizer/Clifford group circuits. In particular, we show that in most common and realistic physical architectures including the linear nearest neighbor, two-dimensional lattice, and bounded degree graph (containing a chain of length n), n-qubit QFT and n-qubit stabilizer circuits can be parallelized to linear depth using no auxiliary qubits. We construct lower bounds that show the efficiency of our approach.

Linear Nearest Neighbor (LNN) synthesis in reversible circuits has emerged as an important issue in terms of technological implementation for quantum computation. The objective is to obtain a LNN architecture with minimum gate cost. As achieving optimal synthesis is a hard problem, heuristic methods have been proposed in recent literature. In this work we present a graph partitioning based approach for LNN synthesis with reduction in circuit cost. In particular, the number of SWAP gates required to convert a given gate-level quantum circuit to its equivalent LNN configuration is minimized. Our algorithm determines the reordering of indices of the qubit line(s) for both single control and multiple controlled gates. Experimental results for placing the target qubits of Multiple Controlled Toffoli (MCT) library of benchmark circuits show a significant reduction in gate count and quantum gate cost compared to those of related research works.

The general purpose Finite Element Program COSMIC NASTRAN currently has the ability to model magnetic circuits with constant permeablilities. An approach was developed which, through small modifications to the program, allows modelling of non-linear magnetic devices including soft magnetic materials, permanent magnets and coils. Use of the NASTRAN code resulted in output which can be used for subsequent mechanical analysis using a variation of the same computer model. Test problems were found to produce theoretically verifiable results.

Katzenelson's algorithm and its variants are powerful tools for solving nonlilnear networks which are modeled by piecewise-linear characteristics. But, when nonlinear network sizes become very large such as in VLSI chip cases, excessive cpu time and storage are required during the solution process using Katzenelson's algorithms. Decomposition techniques are necessary in the analysis of VLSI circuits. Nonlinear Gauss-Seidel iterative methods are often adopted in solving large decomposed system of equations. However, Nonlinear Gauss-Seidel iterative process will converge under certain conditions. The combination of Katzenelson and Gauss-Seidel methods proposed here takes advantages of both Katzenelson and the Gauss-Seidel methods. It decomposes the whole network into small subcircuits by Gauss-Seidel method and solves these small subcircuits by Katzenelson's algorithm separately (or even these subcircuits can be solved by Katzenelson's at same time with parallel processors, if Jacobi Method is used as decompositions technique). Bruce returns over sea from the Island of Rachrin: but is forced to land close to hostile forces at Artonish Castle on the seacoast of Argylshire. Dame Elspeth is kept in a tower after the death of her husband. The widow of the Baron of Avenel and her daughter seek safety with Elspeth in her tower. Hearing the baroness's deathbed confession, Father Philip notices her Bible. As he carries it to the Lord Abbot, it is taken from him by a White Lady. A sub-prior investigates this story and finds that the Bible is now back in the owner's hands. Later, Elspeth's son sees the White Lady when he snatches the Bible from a flaming altar. Intrigue follows intrigue. Halbert and Sir Piercie Shafton fight, and Halbert flees, leaving Sir Piercie mortally wounded. Shafton, however, recovers only to be accused of murdering Edward's missing brother. Mysie helps Shafton escape from jail. Edward has vowed to become a monk at the urging of the White Lady. After a battle between English and Scottish soldiers against Sir John's troops, Mysie is declared a suitable wife for Sir Piercie. The monks are allowed to keep their monastery. In the poem, Lady Margaret Scott of Buccleuch, the "Flower of Teviot" is beloved by Baron Henry of Cranstown an ally of the Ker Clan, but a deadly feud exists between the two border clans of Scott and Carr/Ker, which has resulted in the recent murder of Lady Margaret's father, Sir Walter Scott of Buccleuch by the Kers on the High Street in Edinburgh. 22Black Dwarf

The Black Dwarf is the first of the “Tales of My Landlord” series, which also includes The Bride of Lammermoor and The Heart of Midlothian. The third preliminary chapter depicts two horsemen arriving at the Wallace Inn in Gandercleugh, where one of the horsemen relates the tale. The story proper is set on the Scottish borders during the reign of Queen Anne. The Jacobite movement is in its infancy, but the inhabitants of this part of the country have enough to quarrel about without politics inciting them to it. Several families of high and low birth bear no good intentions to each other, and a weird, brooding dwarf, who wishes ill on all of humanity, seems to direct and perpetuate the mayhem from his lonely cottage on Mucklestane Moor.
