1Dave Lowe: Pandemonium 1 Of 2 1992.08.26
By Dave Lowe
[About the Disk] This disk is labeled "Pandemonium 1 of 2" and is a standard 3.5" floppy disk that was among hundreds obtained in a collection of game developer Dave Lowe's old development materials following his retirement and the closure of his studio space at the end of 2022. This Internet Archive page is the result of efforts that were made to recover and preserve the contents of this disk so that the public can gain a better understanding of the works that Dave Lowe created and contributed to. Unfortunately, the disk itself came unglued from the hub at some point, which has rendered the disk unreadable without considerable effort. [File Summary] 1) Lowe_Pandemonium1of2_1992.08.26.jpg A photograph of the original disk media. 2) Lowe_Pandemonium1of2_1992.08.26.scp A Super Card Pro magnetic flux disk image, created using Greaseweazle v4. Openable in software such as HxC Floppy Emulator and FluxEngine. Due to the disk being not glued down to the disk hub, this scp file is incomplete, and I was unable to recover any data. [About Dave Lowe] Dave Lowe, a prolific British video game composer and programmer, worked on dozens of game scores throughout the 1980s and 1990s--often operating under the name of his company, "Uncle Art". In addition to his original compositions for games such as Starglider, Frontier: Elite II, Beneath a Steel Sky, and others, much of Dave's work involved converting a game's audio to work for its port to another platform, most often for the Commodore Amiga, Commodore 64, and Atari ST. Due to each platform of that era having dramatically different technical specifications and requirements, porting the audio was a complex task that frequently required Dave to tailor the music and sound effects to the target platform (sometimes without even access to the original game's source material). Additionally, he'd have to write his own audio drivers by hand using hundreds of lines of assembly code. Dave's use of real voice and instrument samples are hallmarks of his work.
