3Examination Of Some Foremost Security Concerns Of Contemporary Cloud Computing Environments

By

Cloud computing diminishes cost and complexity of service providers by means of assets and operational costs. It allows users to access applications tenuously. On behalf of user, this construct directs cloud service provider to feel software updates and cost of servers etc. For cloud providers and consumers; availability, integrity, authenticity, confidentiality, and privacy are important concern. Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) serves as base layer for many other release models and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) clouds. In this paper we are going to some major security issues of current cloud computing environments. Security of PaaS clouds is considered from multiple perspective including access control, service continuity and privacy while protecting together the service provider and the user. Security problems of PaaS clouds are explored and classified.

10Performance Improvement Of Cloud Computing Data Centers Using Energy Efficient Task Scheduling Algorithms

Cloud computing is a technology that provides a platform for the sharing of resources such as software, infrastructure, application and other information. It brings a revolution in Information Technology industry by offering on-demand of resources. Clouds are basically virtualized datacenters and applications offered as services. Data center hosts hundreds or thousands of servers which comprised of software and hardware to respond the client request. A large amount of energy requires to perform the operation.. Cloud Computing is facing lot of challenges like Security of Data, Consumption of energy, Server Consolidation, etc. The research work focuses on the study of task scheduling management in a cloud environment. The main goal is to improve the performance (resource utilization and redeem the consumption of energy) in data centers. Energy-efficient scheduling of workloads helps to redeem the consumption of energy in data centers, thus helps in better usage of resource. This is further reducing operational costs and provides benefits to the clients and also to cloud service provider. In this abstract of paper, the task scheduling in data centers have been compared. Cloudsim a toolkit for modeling and simulation of cloud computing environment has been used to implement and demonstrate the experimental results. The results aimed at analyzing the energy consumed in data centers and shows that by having reduce the consumption of energy the cloud productivity can be improved.

Salesforce Cloud computing is quickly replacing the traditional model of having software applications installed on on premise hardware, from desktop computers to rooms full of servers, depending on the size of the business. With cloud computing, businesses access applications via the internet. It's called Software as A Service or SaaS . Salesforce is the leader in cloud computing, offering applications for all aspects of your business, including CRM, sales, ERP, customer service, marketing automation, business analytics, mobile application building, and much more. And it all works on the same, connected platform, drawing from the same customer data. The outpatient of most clinics in developing countries are faced with plethora of issues. These include overtime for doctors and nurses during clinic sessions, long waiting time for patients, and peak workloads for counter personnel. The quality of health care delivery has been threatening by overtime and peak work load. This paper focuses on developing a system to improve upon the efficiency and quality of delivering a web based appointment system to reduce waiting time. In this project, a patient appointment and scheduling system is designed using Salesforce Lightning for the frontend, Apex is used to get values from frontend and store in back end cloud storage. 14ERIC EJ1053854: Utilization Of Cloud Computing In Education And Research To The Attainment Of Millennium Development Goals And Vision 2030 In Kenya

By

Kenya Educational and Research fraternity has highly qualified human resource capacity with globally gained experiences. However each research entity works in disparity due to the absence of a common digital platform while educational units don't even have the basic infrastructure. For sustainability of Education and research progression, collaboration amongst students, Teachers, Lecturers and International researchers on a common central repository of digital content is a requirement. The absence of a centralized digital content repository containing e-learning resources, research applications and tools with a collaborative on-line modern digital library accessible with a controlled right based accessibility has denied students in remote areas access to education, researchers from collaborating with their peers and industry from innovation benefits. This study proposes a framework of cloud computing (CC) owned and maintained by the government. The developed repository may need to be accessed by any terminal that can be easily solar powered and may use basic modems. Cloud provider preference guided by digital content development capacity is discussed. Students will benefit immensely on the e-learning component which will address the dwindling instructors-Student ratios while universities and research institutes through collaborative ventures will participate alongside their international colleagues with immediate innovation benefiting our local industries. Contribution to Kenya's vision 2030 by Millennium development goals (MDGs) attainment like universal primary education, environmental sustainability and combating diseases through research is discussed. Challenges of instructor shortage, classroom space and geographical disparity are addressed.

15SECURITY IN BANKING SECTOR USING CLOUD COMPUTING WITH TPA

By

Cloud is a growing trend now a days. It is used in almost all growing sectors. It also finds its application in banking sector. Clouds In banking sector is used to store the account information of the bank customers. Using clouds puts the security of the data in a fix. Data integrity is not guaranteed. Online transactions are not yet safe to be done. We propose a system that contains Clouds and public auditing scheme which provides data integrity check by a Third Party auditor (TPA). The TPA is enabled to perform audits for multiple user simultaneously. Along with the alpha numeric passwords we enable the user to set an image password which uses visual cryptography as its underlying mechanism. K-N sharing algorithm is use in this. This effectively increases the security by reducing the risk password hacking. Our system also provides an additional feature of de-duplication in order to avoid duplications of files stored at the main server. This saves the memory usage as well as the bandwidth. Thus our system includes the features of cloud computing with public auditing using TPA, Visual Cryptography, and de-duplication.

16A Non-Cooperative Game Model For Reliability-Based Task Scheduling In Cloud Computing

By

Cloud computing is a newly emerging distributed system which is evolved from Grid computing. Task scheduling is the core research of cloud computing which studies how to allocate the tasks among the physical nodes, so that the tasks can get a balanced allocation or each task's execution cost decreases to the minimum, or the overall system performance is optimal. Unlike task scheduling based on time or cost before, aiming at the special reliability requirements in cloud computing, we propose a non-cooperative game model for reliability-based task scheduling approach. This model takes the steady-state availability that computing nodes provide as the target, takes the task slicing strategy of the schedulers as the game strategy, then finds the Nash equilibrium solution. And also, we design a task scheduling algorithm based on this model. The experiments can be seen that our task scheduling algorithm is better than the so-called balanced scheduling algorithm.

17DTIC ADA573935: An Investigation Into Specifying Service Level Agreements For Provisioning Cloud Computing Services

By

Within the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), service-level agreements are a widely used tool for acquiring enterprise-level information technology (IT) resources. In order to contain, if not reduce, the total cost of ownership of IT resources to the enterprise, the DoD has undertaken outsourcing its IT needs to Cloud service providers. In this thesis, we explore how service-level agreements are specified for non-Cloud-based services (client-server systems), followed by determining how to tailor those practices to fit service-level agreements for Cloud-based service provision, with a focus on end-to-end management of the service-provisioning.

19Inter-Layer Per-Mobile Optimization Of Cloud Mobile Computing: A Message-Passing Approach

By

Cloud mobile computing enables the offloading of computation-intensive applications from a mobile device to a cloud processor via a wireless interface. In light of the strong interplay between offloading decisions at the application layer and physical-layer parameters, which determine the energy and latency associated with the mobile-cloud communication, this paper investigates the inter-layer optimization of fine-grained task offloading across both layers. In prior art, this problem was formulated, under a serial implementation of processing and communication, as a mixed integer program, entailing a complexity that is exponential in the number of tasks. In this work, instead, algorithmic solutions are proposed that leverage the structure of the call graphs of typical applications by means of message passing on the call graph, under both serial and parallel implementations of processing and communication. For call trees, the proposed solutions have a linear complexity in the number of tasks, and efficient extensions are presented for more general call graphs that include "map" and "reduce"-type tasks. Moreover, the proposed schemes are optimal for the serial implementation, and provide principled heuristics for the parallel implementation. Extensive numerical results yield insights into the impact of inter-layer optimization and on the comparison of the two implementations.

20Combining Peer-to-Peer And Cloud Computing For Large Scale On-line Games

By

This thesis investigates the combination of Peer-to-Peer (P2P) and Cloud Computing to support Massively Multiplayer On- line Games (MMOGs). MMOGs are large-scale distributed applications where a large number of users concurrently share a real-time virtual environment. Commercial MMOG infrastructures are sized to support peak loads, incurring in high economical cost. Cloud Computing represents an attractive solution, as it lifts MMOG operators from the burden of buying and maintaining hardware, while offering the illusion of infinite machines. However, it requires balancing the tradeoff between resource provisioning and operational costs. P2P- based solutions present several advantages, including the inherent scalability, self-repairing, and natural load distribution capabilities. They require additional mechanisms to suit the requirements of a MMOG, such as backup solutions to cope with peer unreliability and heterogeneity. We propose mechanisms that integrate P2P and Cloud Computing combining their advantages. Our techniques allow operators to select the ideal tradeoff between performance and economical costs. Using realistic workloads, we show that hybrid infrastructures can reduce the economical effort of the operator, while offering a level of service comparable with centralized architectures.

21A Practical, Secure, And Verifiable Cloud Computing For Mobile Systems

By

Cloud computing systems, in which clients rent and share computing resources of third party platforms, have gained widespread use in recent years. Furthermore, cloud computing for mobile systems (i.e., systems in which the clients are mobile devices) have too been receiving considerable attention in technical literature. We propose a new method of delegating computations of resource-constrained mobile clients, in which multiple servers interact to construct an encrypted program known as garbled circuit. Next, using garbled inputs from a mobile client, another server executes this garbled circuit and returns the resulting garbled outputs. Our system assures privacy of the mobile client's data, even if the executing server chooses to collude with all but one of the other servers. We adapt the garbled circuit design of Beaver et al. and the secure multiparty computation protocol of Goldreich et al. for the purpose of building a secure cloud computing for mobile systems. Our method incorporates the novel use of the cryptographically secure pseudo random number generator of Blum et al. that enables the mobile client to efficiently retrieve the result of the computation, as well as to verify that the evaluator actually performed the computation. We analyze the server-side and client-side complexity of our system. Using real-world data, we evaluate our system for a privacy preserving search application that locates the nearest bank/ATM from the mobile client. We also measure the time taken to construct and evaluate the garbled circuit for varying number of servers, demonstrating the feasibility of our secure and verifiable cloud computing for mobile systems.

22DTIC ADA589450: Future Of Department Of Defense Cloud Computing Amid Cultural Confusion

By

The Department of Defense (DoD) is executing plans for a Joint Information Environment (JIE), and all Services have embraced this concept. Data center consolidation and information sharing are goals of the JIE. In 2012, the National Defense Authorization Act directed DoD to provide a single enterprise cloud-computing environment and transition to a public cloud service provider. Services have started the development of individual cloud-computing environments but a single cloud for all of DoD may not be the optimal solution. This research paper informs strategic leaders as the wisdom of endorsing cloud computing. It addresses related issues in matters of service culture changes and how strategic leaders will dictate the future of cloud computing. Also, in areas of data integrity, cost savings, security, and stability. It challenges the merits of the Secretary of Defense s guidance of immediately adopting a single commercial cloud technology. Furthermore, the author presents two recommendations to meet the goal of lower IT budgets through data center consolidation and individual Service provided cloud computing.

23DTIC ADA601196: Cloud Computing In The Marine Corps: Needed Innovation

By

Cloud computing is revolutionizing the ability for organizations and people to access information not seen at any point in our past. The linear model of passing information from one user to another is quickly being replaced by placing data, applications, and software in a centralized location or cloud in order to users to access at anytime or anywhere. This creates significant cost savings to organizations and establishes an efficient model to pass and share information quickly. Money can be saved through reduced operating and capital costs to an organization's Information Technology structure. The Federal Government is taking notice and has established policy for all agencies to adopt cloud computing, where appropriate, within their organizations. The Marine Corps has moved towards cloud computing, but needs to fully implement the cloud in order to maximize the benefits of cost savings and reduced manpower within the Marine Corps.

24DTIC ADA545050: Private Virtual Infrastructure: A Model For Trustworthy Utility Cloud Computing

By

Private Virtual Infrastructure is a security architecture for cloud computing which uses a new trust model to share the responsibility of security in cloud computing between the service provider and client, decreasing the risk exposure to both. Private Virtual Infrastructure is under control of the information owner while the cloud fabric is under control of the service provider. The Private Virtual Infrastructure architecture comprises a cluster of trusted computing fabric platforms that host virtual servers running an application server with a Locator Bot security service. The cloud Locator Bot pre-measures the cloud platform for security properties to determine the trustworthiness of the platform. The Locator Bot uses Trusted Execution Technology and virtual Trusted Platform Modules to pre-measure the target environment and securely provision the Private Virtual Infrastructure in the cloud thus protecting information by preventing data from being placed in malicious or untrusted environments. Private Virtual Infrastructure-- including Locator Bot--provides organizations tools to maintain control of their information in the cloud and realize benefits of cloud computing, with assurance that their information is protected. This paper presents a cloud trust model, Private Virtual Infrastructure architecture, and a Locator Bot protocol in enough detail to support further analysis or implementation.

27ERIC EJ1124903: The Potentials Of Using Cloud Computing In Schools: A Systematic Literature Review

By

Cloud Computing (CC) refers to the physical structure of a communications network, where data is stored in large data centers and can be accessed anywhere, at any time, and from different devices. This systematic literature review identifies and categorizes the potential and barriers of cloud-based teaching in schools from an international perspective. This study applied the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) methodology for determining the articles and reporting analysis. A total of 510 articles were identified from ERIC, IEEE Xplore, Science Direct, and Primo. After screening and eligibility checking, 13 articles focusing on "cloud computing and school" were included for qualitative and meta-analysis. The papers are coded, devising 31 themes grouped into five categories. The adoption of CC in schools is associated with five factors: 1) globalization (easier access to education, data access everywhere/accessibility/infrastructure, 21st Century Skills); 2) educational benefits (motivation, teacher-parent communication, collaboration, flexibility, productivity, creativity, self-organized learning, communication, sharing of knowledge, problem-solving, responsible students/peer review/no bad excuses); 3) administrative benefits (economy--operations, computer lifetime, licenses, timesaving, BYOD, software diversity); 4) barriers (technical barriers, cultural barriers, security, privacy, laws and regulations for schools, age restrictions/parent acceptance, and opacity); and 5) implementation (management support, paradigm shift in education, incongruence between implementation strategies).

29DTIC ADA556175: Mitigating Cloud Computing Security Risks Using A Self-Monitoring Defensive Scheme

By

Cloud Computing (CC) promises to offer seamless provisioning of on-demand services and data through the network. These services are made discoverable to the user in the form of simple abstractions via virtualized resources. These services offer unprecedented dynamic, primarily hardware dependent, scalability. Although CC promises to make life much easier for the user, it comes with significant security issues. Because on-demand service provisioning for applications and data will be used by hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of users simultaneously, a successful intrusion would not only expose sensitive data, but it could also completely cut users off from both applications and/or data. This paper examines the underlying security risks inherent to the CC paradigm, compares approaches to mitigate known security risks, and offers a solution that leverages intelligent multi-agent systems and network data ontologies to provide automated defense for both known and unknown malware security risks. We describe a mechanism whereby a dynamic ontology can be self-enriched over time to provide for some protection against unknown security risks.

31DTIC ADA560481: Utilizing Android And The Cloud Computing Environment To Increase Situational Awareness For A Mobile Distributed Response

By

Maintaining an accurate Common Operational Picture (COP) is a strategic requirement for efficient and successful missions in both disaster response and battlefield scenarios. Past practices include utilizing cellular, radio, and computer-based communication methods and updating individual maps accordingly. A drawback of these practices has been the interoperability of these devices as well as accurate reporting and documentation among different entities of the effort. Recent advances in technology have led to the utilization of collaborative maps for maintaining a COP amongst command centers. Despite the advantages this technique offers, it does not address the difficulties surrounding receiving reports from field entities as well as ensuring that these entities also have good situational awareness. In this thesis, we will develop and demonstrate the feasibility of a cloud-based system, known herein as the Smartphone Assisted Readiness, Command, and Control System (SPARCCS), to advance the situational awareness capability of rapid response personnel. This system will allow for Android smartphones and a central web-based cloud application to communicate. We will use our web-based cloud application as the command center to effectively display information and communicate with Android smartphones to create a common operating picture, thereby improving situational awareness. The goal of this research is to explore smartphone capabilities in conjunction with cloud computing to determine how they can extend the benefits of collaborative maps to mobile users while simultaneously ensuring that command centers are receiving accurate, up-to-date reports from the field.

32ERIC ED562471: Cloud Computing And Validated Learning For Accelerating Innovation In IoT

By

Innovation in Internet of Things (IoT) requires more than just creation of technology and use of cloud computing or big data platforms. It requires accelerated commercialization or aptly called go-to-market processes. To successfully accelerate, companies need a new type of product development, the so-called validated learning process. Furthermore, the development of the IoT paradigm has advanced the research on Machine to Machine (M2M) communications and has enabled novel acceleration platforms. However, there is a need for converging currently decentralized cloud systems, general software for processing big data and IoT systems. The paper describes a cloud platform that will bring together several services and instruments that the companies usually rely on in their go-to-market process. The main contribution of this paper consists in the integration of several services in the platform. The proposed platform will allow companies to bring their products to market faster and in a more successful manner, will be accessed via the Internet and will host the tools and virtual environments needed for the go-to-market accelerated process. Finally, is presented the acceleration results of a Cloud IoT architecture for processing big data from M2M telemetry. [For the complete proceedings, see ED562095.]

33Factors Influencing Cloud Computing Adoption In Higher Education Institution

By

There are few studies on factors influencing cloud computing adoption in higher education institutions. However, there are lacks of understanding of the cloud computing adoption issues in the university. The main objective of this study is to investigate factors influencing cloud computing adoption in a higher education institution. The research method involved using qualitative interviewing with relevant stakeholders and case study at one public university in Malaysia. The analysis was done by using Atlat.ti. There are eighteen factors that have been coded into three main categories of Technological, Organizational and Environmental. These are among factors to influence the decision of cloud computing adoption for a public university. The first category (Technological) consists of nine factors; (i) relative advantage, (ii) cost reduction, (iii) ease of use, (iv) compatibility, (v) operational requirement, (vi) security, (vii) sustainability, (viii) trialability and (ix) complexity, The second category (organizational) consists of four factors; (i) infrastructure readiness, (ii) top management, (iii) knowledge and IT skillset and (iv) financial. The third category (environmental) consists of five factors; (i) Cloud Service Provider, (ii) Geographical, (iii) Data Privacy, (iv) Guideline and Policy, (v) Service Level Agreement (SLA). The result may provide a reference for the adoption of cloud computing in the area of mobile learning or mobile computing. Future work involves conducting similar studies at other case studies including public and private universities in Malaysia.

34NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS) 20130000560: An Application-Based Performance Evaluation Of NASAs Nebula Cloud Computing Platform

By

The high performance computing (HPC) community has shown tremendous interest in exploring cloud computing as it promises high potential. In this paper, we examine the feasibility, performance, and scalability of production quality scientific and engineering applications of interest to NASA on NASA's cloud computing platform, called Nebula, hosted at Ames Research Center. This work represents the comprehensive evaluation of Nebula using NUTTCP, HPCC, NPB, I/O, and MPI function benchmarks as well as four applications representative of the NASA HPC workload. Specifically, we compare Nebula performance on some of these benchmarks and applications to that of NASA s Pleiades supercomputer, a traditional HPC system. We also investigate the impact of virtIO and jumbo frames on interconnect performance. Overall results indicate that on Nebula (i) virtIO and jumbo frames improve network bandwidth by a factor of 5x, (ii) there is a significant virtualization layer overhead of about 10% to 25%, (iii) write performance is lower by a factor of 25x, (iv) latency for short MPI messages is very high, and (v) overall performance is 15% to 48% lower than that on Pleiades for NASA HPC applications. We also comment on the usability of the cloud platform.

36A Complete Guide To Cloud Computing

37DTIC ADA589813: Cloud Computing Solutions For The Marine Corps: An Architecture To Support Expeditionary Logistics

By

The Department of Defense (DoD) is planning an aggressive move toward cloud computing technologies. This concept has been floating around the private information technology sector for a number of years and has benefited organizations with cost savings, increased efficiencies, and flexibility by sharing computer resources through networked connections. The push for cloud computing has been driven by the 25 Point Implementation Plan to Reform Federal Information Technology Management that highlighted the shift to a cloud first policy. The cloud first policy has driven the DoD, specifically the Marine Corps, toward cloud computing technologies making this relatively new paradigm inevitable. The Marine Corps has provided its cloud computing guidance through its Private Cloud Computing Environment Strategy. However, the urgency for the Marine Corps to implement a cloud computing architecture that will support enhanced logistical systems in an expeditionary environment needs to be tempered by a comprehensive evaluation of current cloud computing technologies, virtualization technologies, and local versus remote logistical data types and sub-sets. This thesis seeks as its goal to explore and analyze current cloud computing architectures and virtualization technologies to determine and develop a cloud computing architecture that best supports expeditionary logistics for the Marine Corps.

39Ultra-Reliable Cloud Mobile Computing With Service Composition And Superposition Coding

By

An emerging requirement for 5G systems is the ability to provide wireless ultra-reliable communication (URC) services with close-to-full availability for cloud-based applications. Among such applications, a prominent role is expected to be played by mobile cloud computing (MCC), that is, by the offloading of computationally intensive tasks from mobile devices to the cloud. MCC allows battery-limited devices to run sophisticated applications, such as for gaming or for the "tactile" internet. This paper proposes to apply the framework of reliable service composition to the problem of optimal task offloading in MCC over fading channels, with the aim of providing layered, or composable, services at differentiated reliability levels. Inter-layer optimization problems, encompassing offloading decisions and communication resources, are formulated and addressed by means of successive convex approximation methods. The numerical results demonstrate the energy savings that can be obtained by a joint allocation of computing and communication resources, as well as the advantages of layered coding at the physical layer and the impact of channel conditions on the offloading decisions.

40Overview Of Cloud Computing

By

Certainly! Cloud computing is the on-demand availability of computing resources, such as storage and infrastructure, delivered as services over the internet. Here are the key points: Service Models : Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) : Offers compute and storage services. Platform as a Service (PaaS) : Provides a develop-and-deploy environment for building cloud applications. Software as a Service (SaaS) : Delivers applications as services. How It Works : Users access a virtual pool of shared resources (compute, storage, networking) located on remote servers managed by service providers. Organizations pay only for what they use, avoiding the need to buy and maintain physical data centers and servers. Deployment Models : Public Cloud : Resources are available to the general public via the internet. Private Cloud : Resources are dedicated to a single organization. Hybrid Cloud : Combines public and private cloud elements. In summary, cloud computing enables scalability, cost-effectiveness, and flexibility for businesses and individuals alike 1 . If you have any more questions, feel free to ask! 😊
