Also, Why Libertarians ARE the Culture WarThis week we take a look at the culture war, since Max Stirner begins his critique of the Ancients in the second chapter of The Ego and His Own by firing a shot at the past. The Culture War is something that is almost universally misunderstood; for "Culture" is itself a concept that people misuse all of the time as if it meant something like "what I like" or "what I do not like"--where "culture" thus appears as a social-construction. But today we take a deeper look at the psychological origins of culture and its roots in anthropology, ethnography, and philology. We shall draw upon some insights of James G. Frazer in his seminal book, The Golden Bough, and analyze the cult of Diana of the Wood to provide us with some key archetypes. The book contains a detailed explanation and analysis of the 5th-century BC Chinese military, from weapons, environmental conditions, and strategy to rank and discipline. Sun also stressed the importance of intelligence operatives and espionage to the war effort. Considered one of history's finest military tacticians and analysts, his teachings and strategies formed the basis of advanced military training for millennia to come. The book was translated into French and published in 1772 (re-published in 1782) by the French Jesuit Jean Joseph Marie Amiot. A partial translation into English was attempted by British officer Everard Ferguson Calthrop in 1905 under the title The Book of War. The first annotated English translation was completed and published by Lionel Giles in 1910. Military officers must be skilled in strategy and the operational art of campaigning. To acquire these skills, part of their learning must include study of the warfighting experiences of others as well as understanding the concepts of the classic military theorists. Young officers probably don't read enough of yet that is where the conceptual ability to strategize is gained. In this study, a comparison is made of the two greatest classic military strategists, Clausewitz and Sun Tzu. Using the WW I battle of Verdun and the 1950's battle of Dienbienphu as a framework, this study uses tangible historical examples to highlight and compare their teachings on war and strategy in such a way that the young military officer can gain a basic understanding of these concepts.

The story of Wellington's ultimate success against Napoleon's Marshals was selected as a case study as it seemed rich in the application of mental agility to achieve an asymmetrical military advantage in a theater of war. As military theory recognizes two general types of military art, classical strategy and operational art, the research question was constructed to determine if Wellington practiced pure classic strategy, or an early/transitional form of operational art. In order to provide a basis of analysis, the essential elements of both classic strategy and operational art are next defined. The history of classic strategy is outlined, then the theory of Clausewitz and Jomini used to define its four basic elements. The practice of operational art is then traced, from its inception by U.S. Grant during the American Civil War, to Soviet operational theory developed in the 1920's. The theory of Dr. James Schneider, a primary interpreter of both Grant and the Soviets, provides the eight essential elements of operational art. To round out the section on military art, U.S. operational doctrine is outlined and discussed. Like most military officers, Wellington was a creature of his own experience, therefore a chapter is dedicated to the lessons he learned as a young officer in India. The following chapter is dedicated to a study of the Peninsular War. As the research question deals with both the operational and strategic levels of war, Wellington's tactics are neglected in favor of his campaign concepts and execution. Analysis determines that in, three out of five campaigns, Wellington practiced a pure form of classic strategy. Unfortunately, these campaigns all ended in failure.

What about in your long term plans? Challenge: Write down three big things you're scared of, and three little, and then three super little. Pick one and do it. \"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.\" (Frank Herbert) Self-sabotage: Odysseus opening bag at the end--similar experience? Sabotage by others--How do you negotiate toxic relationships? Have you ever sabotaged someone else? Why do you think you did that? Challenge: Think of one toxic friend who tried to sabotage you. Why do you think they did that? How has it impacted you? Process if you can that sense of betrayal creatively. Resistance symptoms: Procrastination Self-indulgence Getting into trouble Creating drama Over-medicating Challenge: Fast three days from something you use to procrastinate or numb yourself e.g. alcohol, instagram, etc Pick a song you like. Primitive prehistoric humans left carvings and drawings that reflected not only visual primitive art but also a way of perceiving and understanding nature and themselves.  These artistic artifacts reflect their activities and practice in gaining ever greater understanding of nature and their own possibilities. We can safely say that art and culture accompany all human activities and social existence in their struggle to understand themselves, nature and its laws.   With civilization classes and class struggles arose. In these class struggles, each class used art and culture to arouse, organize and mobilize its constituency to try to whelm  the other class.  And so is this reflected in the anticolonial, antifeudal and anti-imperialist struggles of the Filipino people and in the long history of the people’s war, which is the subject assigned to me.
