By

The modern theory of superconductivity, based upon the BCS to Bose-Einstein transition is applied to the periodic table of the elements, in order to isolate the essential features of of high temperature superconductivity and to predict its occurrence with the periodic table. It is predicted that Sodium-Ammonia, Sodium Zinc Phosphide and Bismuth (I) Iodide are promising materials for experimental explorations of high temperature superconductivity.

6ERIC ED541635: A Course On Applied Superconductivity Shared By Four Departments

By

In this paper, a course on applied superconductivity is described. The course structure is outlined and the learning objectives and the learning activities are described. The teaching was multidisciplinary given by four departments each contributing with their expertise. Being applied superconductivity, the focus was on an application, which could benefit from using superconductors. The application used in this course was superconducting generators for direct drive wind turbines. As part of the course, the students built a small-scale superconducting machine and set up FE (finite element) models of that machine as well as large-scale wind turbine generators with superconductors and PM (permanent magnet) generators, too. The course was assessed by a conference contribution and reports from the students. The quality of the course was evaluated by interviewing the students after the course had finished. The students were very pleased with the course and gave suggestions of how the course could be improved further. (Contains 1 table and 9 figures.)

8DTIC ADA392904: Superconducting Materials Applied To EP Systems: Applications Of Superconductivity To Hall Thrusters Propulsion

By

This report results from a contract tasking University of Rome as follows: The contractor will investigate the use of superconducting materials for use in high power hall effect type electric propulsion motors. The focus of this work will be to derive scaling laws for coils using high temperature superconducting materials in a Hall SPT up to 50 kW electric power. The contractor will compare the results of this system to more traditional thrusters and discuss the performance gains/limitations. He will collect all data and findings and write a final report.

9Reentrant Superconductivity In A Strong Applied Field Within The Tight-binding Model

By

It was suggested by Rasolt and Te\v{s}anovi\'c that the Landau level quantization in isotropic superconductors could enhance superconductivity in a very strong magnetic field, above the upper critical field ($H_{c2}$). We derive a generalized Harper equation for superconducting systems, and show that a similar reentrant behavior appears in a lattice model, even though the Landau--level--structure is destroyed by the periodic potential in that case. Both the orbital and the Zeeman field--induced effects are taken into account.

11Applied Superconductivity 1993

Applied Superconductivity was a peer-reviewed scientific journal published monthly by Pergamon Press. Launched in 1993, it published the latest research on large and small scale applications of superconductivity, before ceasing publication in 2000. Each issue featured original articles and review papers on the applications of superconductivity and other relevant technology, including descriptions of actual systems and processes implementing superconductors. Occasional special-focus issues were dedicated to a particular topic of interest or contained proceedings of relevant conferences and symposia.  The Internet Archive Collection contains microfilm published between 1993.  Applied Superconductivity can be found online at: https://www.sciencedirect.com/journal/applied-superconductivity The ISSN is 0964-1807

12Renormalization Group Technique Applied To The Pairing Interaction Of The Quasi-One-Dimensional Superconductivity

By

A mechanism of the quasi-one-dimensional (q1d) superconductivity is investigated by applying the renormalization group techniques to the pairing interaction. With the obtained renormalized pairing interaction, the transition temperature Tc and corresponding gap function are calculated by solving the linearized gap equation. For reasonable sets of parameters, Tc of p-wave triplet pairing is higher than that of d-wave singlet pairing due to the one-dimensionality of interaction. These results can qualitatively explain the superconducting properties of q1d organic conductor (TMTSF)2PF6 and the ladder compound Sr2Ca12Cu24O41.
