The effects of a nuclear attack on a country's society and economy have been the subject of numerous studies based on data from the nuclear bombs used against Hiroshima and Nagasaki, from nuclear tests, and from conventional-bomb damage data (1). From this fact comes the conclusion that the only actual use for nuclear explosives is to maintain deterrence, that is, to insure that a nuclear opponent does not use his nuclear arsenal against you. Most of these studies have had one of two purposes: either to snow that a nuclear war is unwinnable; or to guide military planners in determining the size of their country's nuclear arsenal. Even though many studies indicated that deterrence could be supported by a relatively small nuclear arsenal, the total number of nuclear weapons deployed by the U.S. and the Soviet Union now approaches 50,000. Dissatisfaction with this development has prompted two reactions in this country. (Pier 32 Marina) CITY: National City DETAILS: The National City Fire Department along with The San Diego Harbor Police responded to a report of a Jet Ski crash. When First Responders arrived, they learned that a female rider was seriously injured in a crash while she was out riding with a group of friends. The friends managed to help the woman back to the boat docks to an awaiting medical personnel. The woman was transported to UCSD hospital in critical condition. The San Diego Harbor Police is investigating the incident to determine the cause of the crash. No other injuries were reported. Using the tools developed for statistical physics, we simultaneously analyze statistical properties of the Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange indices. In spite of the small number of data used in the analysis, the result shows the universal behavior of complex systems previously found in the leading stock indices. We also analyze their features before and after the financial crisis. We found that after the crisis both stocks do not show a same statistical behavior. The impact of currency controls is observed in the distribution of index returns.

Arriving units found a black SUV on its roof with the driver trapped inside. The SUV had collided with a temporary construction sign, crash attenuators, and a  K-rail before it rolled over in the construction area. The driver was extricated after approximately 15 minutes. The patient was transported to a local hospital in unknown condition. It’s unknown if intoxication, speed and or weather played a part in the incident, but the CHP is investigating. The number 2,3, and 4 lanes will be closed for an extended period of time for the investigation and to push the K-rail out of lanes.
