Kishk is a fermented cereal product made traditionally from bourghul (cracked wheat) and yogurt. Being a fermented product, which gets stored and used over a period of a year, moisture and acidity are two critical components of the preparation method and storage/spoilage. We investigated the effect of a pure Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) starter culture (Streptococcus thermophilus and Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. Bulgaricus) on the acidity and consumer acceptability of Lebanese Kishk. Traditional Lebanese Kishk was prepared and used as a control in this study. Three additional test samples were prepared by adding the following to bourghul; fresh cow milk “Milk”, milk and LAB “Milk+LAB”, and yogurt prepared by inoculating fresh cow milk with LAB. Samples containing yogurt exhibited higher acidity and lower moisture content during the preparation and fermentation phase, both of which are required parameters for safety. Even though the final product of all samples were comparable to the control in terms of moisture, the “Milk+LAB” sample was more acidic than the control. None of the tested samples had a significant impact on consumer overall acceptability of the final product; however, the “Yogurt+LAB” sample was significantly preferred over the control for its odor.

Using a connection D on the bundle V and a morphism \alpha : V \rightarrow TM, we construct an almost Frobenius structure (\circ,e_{V},g) on the manifold V and we study when it is Frobenius. We describe all (real) positive-definite Frobenius structures on V, obtained in this way, when M is a semisimple Frobenius manifold with non-vanishing rotation coefficients. In the holomorphic setting we add a real structure k_{M} on M and a real structure k_{V} on the fibers of \pi and we study when an induced real structure on the manifold V, together with the almost Frobenius structure (\circ, e_{V}, g), satisfy the tt*-equations. Along the way, we prove various properties of adding variables to a Frobenius manifold, in connection with Legendre transformations and tt*-geometry.

Abstract Background: No extensive studies were done that included the use of pentoxifylline or verify its effect on the outcome of ICSI in cases of mild and moderate asthenozoospermia.Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of pentoxifylline used in preparation of semen samples which doesn't need motility enhancement prior to ICSI.Materials and Methods: The study was carried on 30 infertile patients where pentoxifylline was used for semen processing (group I), another 30 patients without pentoxifylline (group II) in addition to 60 infertile patients where crossing over of the semen sample was done further subdividing it into 2 subgroups in which the first half of the semen sample was incubated with pentoxifylline (group IIIA) and the second half of the sample without pentoxifylline (group IIIB).Results: The numbers of oocytes injected, numbers of oocytes fertilized, fertilization rate, the total numbers of embryos, numbers of good embryos and the numbers of embryos transferred of group IIIA were found significantly higher than that of Group IIIB (p=0.00). The overall 6 month pregnancy rate of group I was significantly higher than that of group II (73.3% vs. 60% respectively, p=0.04). The abortion rate of (Group I) and that of (Group II) was found non – significantly different (20% vs. 27.8% respectively, p=0.53).Conclusion: Pentoxifylline can be used as a useful compound for improving ICSI outcome in semen samples preparation prior to oocytes injection regardless of the state of sperm motility or the degree of asthenozoospermia.Registration ID in Clinical Trials.gov: NCT01793272

As data are increasingly modeled as graphs for expressing complex relationships, the tree pattern query on graph-structured data becomes an important type of queries in real-world applications. Most practical query languages, such as XQuery and SPARQL, support logical expressions using logical-AND/OR/NOT operators to define structural constraints of tree patterns. In this paper, (1) we propose generalized tree pattern queries (GTPQs) over graph-structured data, which fully support propositional logic of structural constraints. (2) We make a thorough study of fundamental problems including satisfiability, containment and minimization, and analyze the computational complexity and the decision procedures of these problems. (3) We propose a compact graph representation of intermediate results and a pruning approach to reduce the size of intermediate results and the number of join operations -- two factors that often impair the efficiency of traditional algorithms for evaluating tree pattern queries. (4) We present an efficient algorithm for evaluating GTPQs using 3-hop as the underlying reachability index. (5) Experiments on both real-life and synthetic data sets demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of our algorithm, from several times to orders of magnitude faster than state-of-the-art algorithms in terms of evaluation time, even for traditional tree pattern queries with only conjunctive operations.

Introduction [1] :   The Ferula badrakema from the Apiaceae family is a resinous plant with a strong smell that is native to Iran (Rechinger et al., 1994). The anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties of Ferula badrakema are believed to be due to its high content of alpha-pinene and beta-pinene. Similar to other Ferula species, this plant is a rich source of sesquiterpene coumarins (Bukreeva and Pimenov, 1991). To the best of our knowledge, no study has been done on the volatile compounds of this species. However, studies on other species of this plant that grow in other parts of the world have been reported (Başer et al., 2000; Takeoka, 2001, Iranshahi et al., 2006). Saccharin is a sulfonamide produced from compounds found in coal tar (Abdelaziz et al., 2011). Its taste is 300 to 500 times sweeter than sucrose. Due to its high sweetness, it is widely used to improve feed palatability and can increase feed intake (Feighner et al., 1987). Studies by Han et al. (2019) have shown that Japanese quails prefer sucrose solution instead of ordinary water due to its palatability. However, few studies have been conducted on the physiological relationship between sweeteners and the gastrointestinal tract of broilers (Kimmich et al., 1989). Considering that most medicinal plants have a bitter taste and reduce the feed consumption and growth of chickens, this experiment aimed to investigate the effects of adding sweeteners and preventing the activation of bitter taste receptors of the Ferula plant on the growth performance, immune system and blood metabolites of chickens. Materials and Methods: This experiment was conducted using 468 one-day-old commercial broilers from the Ross 308 strain with 6 treatments, 6 replicates and 13 birds each in a completely randomized design as a 3×2 factorial arrangement (3 levels of Ferula badrakema root powder at the levels of 0, 0.75 and 1.5% and two levels of 0 and 0.15% sodium saccharin in diet). Standard diets during the periods of starter (1-10 d), grower (11-24 d) and finisher (25-42 d) were used. The diets were formulated using the UFFDA software to provide all the requirements of the broilers based on the recommendations of the Ross 308 strain (2019). Throughout the experiment, the birds had ad libitum access to water and feed and an hour darkness and 23 hours of light was provided. The initial temperature of the room was 32°C, which was reduced by 0.5°C per day according to the Ross company guidelines, until it reached 21°C at the age of 21 days and remained constant after that. Average feed intake, weight gain and feed conversion ratio for each group were measured at the end of each period. To measure blood parameters, one male bird at the end of the experiment (42 d), was selected from each replicate and blood samples were taken from the wing vein in syringes without anticoagulant, and after centrifugation, the sera were collected in 0.5 ml microtubes and kept at -20°C until the further analysis. To evaluate the humoral immune response, 0.1 ml sheep red blood cells (SRBC) suspension was injected to breast muscle of one bird from each replicate on 28 and 35 d and total antibody, IgG and IgM were measured. Results and Discussion:   Adding saccharin to the diet caused a significant increase in feed intake during the periods of 1-10 and 1-42 days (P < 0.05). The interaction effect of saccharin and Ferula on feed intake was significant (P < 0.05) during the periods of 25-42 and 1-42 days; so the addition of Ferula to diets containing saccharin increased feed intake while in diets without saccharin, it reduced feed intake. The body weight gain of chicks at the age of 1-10, 42-25 and 1-42 days in the treatment with 0.15% saccharin was significantly (P < 0.05) higher than the treatment without saccharin; but adding Ferula had no significant effect on the weight gain. Addition of Ferula and saccharin to the diet and their interaction had no significant effect on the carcass traits of broilers. Adding saccharin to the diet caused a significant increase (P < 0.05) in blood uric acid, but it did not have a significant effect on the concentration of other blood metabolites. An independent comparison of Ferula supplemented diets with treatment without it, showed that Ferula caused a significant (P < 0.05) increase in blood uric acid, albumin and phosphorus and a significant decrease in blood cholesterol and triglyceride. The titer of total antibody and IgG at the age of 35 days, as well as IgG and IgM at the age of 42 days, increased compared to its 0 level under the influence of Ferula consumption. Conclusion: In general, the results showed that the use of sodium saccharin in the diet prevents the reduction of feed intake caused by the bitter taste of Ferula, and the consumption of Ferula improves the immune system and reduces the concentration of cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood broiler chicks.

Patient recruitment to a research trial has a huge influence on the successful conduct of trials. Effective, yet inexpensive ways of increasing consent rates are required. Quick response (QR) codes are becoming commonplace, and people are increasingly familiar with them, particularly due to recent requirement to use QR codes to check-in during the COVID-19 pandemic. QR codes have been used extensively to recruit, but a search of the literature failed to reveal any RCT investigating the effect on response rate of adding a QR code. As such, the aim of this trial is to determine whether the addition of a QR code to a patient consent form for a research trial increases the consent rates. The study will will be nested in a qualitative study involving colorectal cancer patients. All patients will be randomised to receive either standard patient information pack, or a patient information pack with QR codes. The between-group recruitment rates will be compared.

To determine the effects of load carriage and walking speed on stride parameters and the coordination of trunk movements, twelve subjects walked on a level treadmill at a range of walking speeds (0.6 m/s - 1.6 m/s) with and without a backpack containing 40% of their body mass. It was hypothesized that compared to unloaded walking load carriage decreases transverse pelvic and thoracic rotation, the mean relative phase between pelvic and thoracic rotations, and increases hip excursion. In addition, it was hypothesized that these changes would coincide with a decreased stride length and increase stride frequency. The findings supported the hypotheses. It was additionally hypothesized that the increased MOI of the upper body caused by the added mass of the backpack would result in an increase in upper body torque, an increase in lower body torque, and an increase in net body torque. Higher levels of upper body torque were observed in the backpack condition compared to the no backpack condition. However, the increase in upper body torque was 225%, while upper body MOI increased by 400%. In contrast to our hypothesis, decreased lower body torque was also observed in the backpack condition compared to the no backpack condition Dimensionless analyses indicated that there was a significantly larger contribution of hip excursion and smaller contribution on transverse plane pelvic rotation to increases in stride length during load carriage. In addition, there was a significant effect of load carriage on the amplitudes of transverse pelvic and thoracic rotation and the relative phase of pelvic and thoracic rotation. It was concluded that the shorter stride length and higher stride frequency observed when carrying a backpack is the result of decreased pelvic rotation. The shorter stride length and higher stride frequency observed during load carriage are associated with changes in transverse plane kinematics.

Following review of comments from a public forum held in September to consider the new service, Ride On will be offering a new Route 94 "Meet the MARC" bus service during rush hours between Clarksburg and the Germantown MARC Train Station beginning January 13. In 2023 and 2024, the American Mathematics Educator Study (AMES) surveyed teachers and principals nationwide to learn more about how students access and experience algebra in 8th and 9th grade. A key finding from the surveys: schools serving mostly low-income students are far less likely to offer algebra in 8th grade compared to those serving more affluent students. The surveys also identified other issues that can hinder equitable access to algebra and math education, including: (1) uneven access to qualified math teachers; (2) math instruction that disproportionately focuses on remedial content in disadvantaged communities; (3) limited access to advanced math courses beyond algebra in high-poverty schools; and (4) different approaches to algebra eligibility and achievement grouping (e.g., tracking) that may perpetuate inequity. These systemic inequities--in both opportunities and experiences--suggest that making algebra more available is a necessary but insufficient step towards closing gaps in access to advanced math education. The brief is based on a working paper which examines how America's students access and experience algebra in 8th and 9th grade.

Abstract — This experiment was carried out to determine the effect of addition of different levels of phytase containing low phosphorus diets on performance, eggshell quality and bone characteristics in laying Japanese quail (Coturnix japonica). In the experiment, a total of 162 7-week-oldlaying Japanese quail were fed two different diets containing 0.33 % available phosphorus (AP, control) and 0.15 % AP supplemented with phytase 0, 500, 1000, 1500, 2000 phytase unites /g feed. Each diet was feed to groups having three replicates, each cages nine quail, in completely randomized design. Feed and water supplied for ad-libitum. Light was provided 17 hours daily. Egg production, egg mass, average daily feed consumption, viability, fat-free dried tibia weight were improved, as phytase level increased in the diet . However, final live weight, carcass weight, body weight gain, feed efficiency, tibia ash (%) and deformed egg ratio (%), some eggshell quality parameters measured in eggs collected at the end of the first period, were not affected by treatments. With regard to measured parameters, the responses of laying quail, to the increasing phytase levels, were not linear. The performance and bone parameters of the group fed with 1500 units were very close to that of the control group , even higher than the control group in some traits. Decreasing in shell weight of eggs collected at last three days of the experiment were not prevented any of the phytase levels . At the same period, shell thickness and breaking strength of the eggs of groups fed with 1500 and 2000 units phytase, were significantly lower than that of the control group . Manure ash percentage of phytase added groups were significantly lower than the control group .
