Santa Monica Police Department (SMPD) Homeless Liaison (HLP) Officers took action on Monday, July 10, 2023, as they dismantled a tent at Santa Monica Beach. During their operation, the officers discovered personal property within the unoccupied tent. In response, the police issued a red notice tag, signaling the need to remove the tent. If the tent remains in place, the officers will return at a later time to ensure its removal. The Santa Monica Police Department recognizes the unique challenges faced by individuals experiencing homelessness and the necessity of providing them with special protection and services. With this in mind, SMPD is dedicated to addressing homelessness by implementing a nationally recognized homeless engagement model. The Homeless Liaison Program (HLP) incorporates various key components such as Relationship Building, Networking, Outreach, Education, and Enforcement. HLP comprises one sergeant and six officers who collaborate closely with several entities including The Santa Monica City Attorney's Office, the Santa Monica Fire Department, the city's Human Services Division (HSD), and the Los Angeles Department of Mental Health (DMH). This collaborative effort aims to identify individuals who are eligible for social services provided by the city or county. By working together in the field, court, or care facilities, these departments strive to explore alternatives to incarceration when appropriate. Among their core responsibilities, HLP officers maintain and make available a comprehensive list of assistance programs and resources accessible to individuals experiencing homelessness. They actively engage in meetings with social service providers and representatives from other organizations committed to supporting those in need. Additionally, the officers ensure they stay up-to-date with the laws pertaining to the removal or destruction of personal property in such cases. They are also present during clean-up operations conducted by the department to safeguard the rights of the homeless population. To further equip officers with a comprehensive understanding of current legal and social issues relating to homelessness, HLP develops training programs. These initiatives help law enforcement personnel stay informed and better equipped to address the complexities associated with assisting individuals experiencing homelessness. Active shooter attacks occur quickly. Schools have to take immediate action to protect students and staff. Public address systems do not adequately warn everyone at the first sign of danger. This thesis asks to what extent the school fire alarm system can be a model for a lockdown notification system for emergencies involving violence. The research reviews the history, mechanics, and regulations of fire alarm systems, and uses that information to design a conceptual lockdown notification system. A tool to evaluate school warning system technologies was also developed. Six case studies reviewed schools or districts that use a lockdown warning system modeled after the fire alarm system. The thesis concluded the school evaluation tool is useful for identifying strengths and weaknesses of school warning systems. The tool showed that reliability is a strength of the conceptual lockdown notification system because it is aligned with National Fire Protection Association codes. The lockdown notification system has the potential to solve the problem of early warning. The research recommends school decision-makers use this new tool to evaluate and select communication and warning system technologies. It recommends a pilot project to test the implementation of the conceptual lockdown notification system in schools.

The nurse in question went out to France at the beginning of the war and remained there until May 1915 after the second battle of Ypres when she went back to a Base Hospital and the diary ceases. Although written in diary form, it is clearly taken from letters home and gives a vivid if sometimes distressing picture of the state of the casualties suffered during that period. After a time at the General Hospital in Le Havre she became one of the three or four sisters working on the ambulance trains which fetched the wounded from the Clearing Hospitals close to the front line and took them back to the General Hospitals in Boulogne and Le Havre. This is a collection of stories collected over thousands of years by various authors, translators and scholars. The are an amalgam of mythology and folk tales from the Indian sub-continent, Persia, and Arabia. No original manuscript has ever been found for the collection, but several versions date the collection's genesis to somewhere between AD 800-900. The stories are wound together under the device of a long series of cliff-hangers told by Shahrazad to her husband Shahryar, to prevent him from executing her. Many tales that have become independently famous come from the Book, among them Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, and the voyages of Sinbad the Sailor.
