1Modeling And Simulation Of 3D Laser Range Scanner With Generic Interface For Robotics Applications

The aim of this work is to describe the physics-based simulation model of a custom 3D range laser scanner together with generic interface which offers the possibility for client applications to seamlessly interact with instances of the physical and virtual 3D range scanner. The physics-based virtual model of the 3D range scanner is realized in rigid body dynamics environment provided by Open Dynamics Engine (ODE) library. In order to simulate the stepper motor used in the real scanner, the joints are virtually constrained and motorized with the parameters obtained from real device. For rays modeling the ray-cast method is used. The incidence angle and the surface properties of the object hit by the rays are also taken into the consideration. The sensor noise that represents the uncertainty of the measure is also taken into account. We have also tried to mimic the internal sensor control logic. In order to verify the developed model and the interface architecture, a simple client application for 3D data acquisition is developed and connected through the same interface to both “physical” and “virtual” device. The results of the evaluation are also reported and discussed.

4DTIC AD1011293: 2D And 3D Multiscale/Multicomponent Modeling Of Impact Response Of Heterogeneous Energetic Composites

The objective of this project as modified and approved by DTRA is to develop a new scientific framework and technical capability for the computational analyses and design of the thermal mechanical behavior of energetic composite materials under dynamic impact loading. The model material system polymer bonded explosives (PBX). The capability to be developed goes beyond what is available at the present. Due to the reduced level of funding available relative to the level in the original proposal, we have made certain changes in the scope of the work. The characteristics of the framework and capability include (1) focus on our state-of-the-art2D CFEM computational framework, (2) account of fully dynamic finite deformation kinetics and kinematics, (3) tracking of microstructural level fracture, failure, shear banding, contact and frictional heating, (4) account for the coupling between mechanical deformation and thermal generation and conduction, (5) account for the initiation of energetic reactions in dynamically deforming heterogeneous materials, (6) characterization of the stochastic variations in ignition behavior, and (7) three-dimensional (3D) modeling will primarily focus on the effect of anisotropic crystalline plastic response (slip) on the dissipation mechanisms in HMX granule aggregates.

5DTIC AD1027885: Fast, Automated, Photo Realistic, 3D Modeling Of Building Interiors

GPS-denied indoor mobile mapping has been an active area of research for many years. With applications such as historical preservation, entertainment, and augmented reality, the demand for both fast and accurate scanning technologies has dramatically increased. In this project, we developed two algorithmic pipelines for GPS-denied indoor mobile 3D mapping using an ambulatory backpack system. By mounting scanning equipment on a backpack system, a human operator can traverse the interior of a building to produce a high-quality 3Dreconstruction. In each of our presented algorithmic pipelines, data from a number of 2D laser scanners, a camera, and an IMU is fused together to track the 3D position of the system as the operator traverses an unknown environment. This project presents a number of novel contributions f or indoor GPS-denied 2.5 and 3D mobile mapping using a number of 2D laser scanners, a camera, and an IMU. First, for 3Dmapping we develop a tightly coupled EKF estimator for fusing data from all sensors into a single optimized 3D trajectory. By formulating each sensor's contributions independently, we demonstrate a modular algorithm that easily scales to an arbitrary number of 2D laser scanners. In contrast to existing work that either assumes a known fixed map or limits the environment to a set of axis aligned planes, we demonstrate the ability to map environments containing horizontal and vertical planes of arbitrary orientation with no a priori information. Additionally, through timing and complexity analysis, we demonstrate that the runtime of the proposed EKF estimator is only linear in the acquisition time. Secondly, by including in our EKF estimator the laser scanner's spatial and temporal calibration parameters, we present a novel laser calibration methodology. Through simulated and real-world data, we validate that the proposed algorithms are capable of calibrating both the extrinsic and temporal misalignments present in our system's laser data.

6DTIC AD1025714: 2D And 3D Modeling Efforts In Fuel Film Cooling Of Liquid Rocket Engines (Conference Paper With Briefing Charts)

Two- and three-dimensional simulations of slot injection of fuel film cooling have been carried out using an unsteady detached eddy simulation (DES) turbulence model at operating conditions relevant to liquid rocket engine (LRE) thrust chambers. The aim of this study is to determine what parameters drive unsteadiness in fuel films, and how these parameters affect wall temperature profiles. Parametric studies performed in 2D suggest that a Helmholtz resonator exists for simple slot geometries. Frequencies in 3D were observed to be of a lower frequency, with a rich mix of modes driving unsteadiness. Changing the shape of the inlet had a strong impact on both unsteadiness and wall temperature profile. These simulations do not capture trends seen in experimental results, but do provide insight into the complex nature of fuel film cooling.

7DTIC ADA568810: Advanced Multivariate Inversion Techniques For High Resolution 3D Geophysical Modeling

To meet the United States Government nuclear explosion monitoring requirements with high confidence, the Air Force Technical Applications Center needs new and improved capabilities for analyzing regional seismic teleseismic, and infrasound event data. Recently, the National Nuclear Security Administration has decided to move toward 3D modeling to improve knowledge of the compressional and shear velocity structure and enable us to reduce uncertainty and more accurately detect, locate, and identify small (body wave magnitude mb4) seismic events. For seismically active areas, inaccurate models can be corrected using the kriging methodology and therefore, it is possible to detect, locate, and identify large events even with limited resolution models. This is not necessarily the case for smaller events, however, and it is even more of a challenge for aseismic regions. Furthermore, interest on near-regional to local monitoring demands that we address the Earth's heterogeneities and 3D complexities. Motivated by the shortcomings of existing single-parameter inversion methods in accurate prediction of other geophysical parameters, this research was mainly focused on the development and refinement of advanced multivariate inversion techniques to generate a realistic, comprehensive, and high-resolution 3D model of the seismic structure of the crust and upper mantle that satisfies multiple independent geophysical datasets. We present 3D seismic velocity models of the crust and upper mantle beneath three different regions (northwest China; the East Africa Rift System; and Utah) resulting from the simultaneous and joint use of seismic body wave arrival times surface wave dispersion measurements, and gravity data.

8DTIC ADA424450: Sensor Modeling And 3D Visualization

Two related, but independent investigations were carried out under this project. The first related to sensor (camera) modeling as needed for the photogrammetric exploitation of imagery for mapping and geopositioning purposes. This task was further subdivided into two subtasks. The first of these involved performing a geometric camera calibration for a set of 4 co-boresighted video cameras (called CAMIS) used by TEC (Topographic Engineering Center) for remote sensing and mapping purposes. This involved setting up a laboratory calibration facility, collecting system imagery in that facility, developing software and algorithms to align the fixtures in the facility, and developing software and algorithms to perform the camera calibration. The second subtask was to investigate the detection of errors in aerial triangulation, motivated by recurrent problems using the SOCET SET triangulation module for large blocks of images The approach here was to implement and test two algorithms for such error detection in a prototype MATLAB GUI (graphical user interface) Testing showed that both algorithms had merit for the error blunder detection problem. The second task in the project was the further development of Vesper for the Battlespace (VFB) product. The goals here were to develop and demonstrate advanced sensor data fusion, 2D and 3D visualization capabilities, combine the visualization environment with precise geo-registration, creating a single, end-to-end data visualization system. This system enhances time critical operations such as intelligence gathering, mission planning and rehearsal, and operational command and control. Specific modules within VFB include auto geo-registration of EO,SAR,IR,HSI, and SIG data, sensor model update, sensor projectors, object models (DTED, etc.), and interactive 2D/3D visualization.

The application of a shell/3D modeling technique for the simulation of skin/stringer debond in a specimen subjected to three-point bending is demonstrated. The global structure was modeled with shell elements. A local three-dimensional model, extending to about three specimen thicknesses on either side of the delamination front was used to capture the details of the damaged section. Computed total strain energy release rates and mixed-mode ratios obtained from shell/13D simulations were in good agreement with results obtained from full solid models. The good correlations of the results demonstrated the effectiveness of the shell/3D modeling technique for the investigation of skin/stiffener separation due to delamination in the adherents.

My goal within the EuroSTRATAFORM program is to understand the creation of the preserved stratigraphic record on continental shelves and slopes as the product of physical processes acting with spatial and temporal heterogeneities. I have been using numerical models to provide insight into the formation and preservation of stratigraphic sequences at margins. My goal has been to obtain a quantitative understanding of the interactions of environmental parameters and their influence on stratal architecture and facies distribution. I wish to be able decipher the stratigraphy on margins to read the geologic record of the past and predict future stratigraphy.

The DPP-4 and DPP-8 inhibitory activity of triazolopiperazines have been quantitatively  analyzed in terms of 3D-Dragon descriptors. The derived QSAR models have shown that atomic  properties played pivotal role in terms of weighted radial distribution functions, 3D-MoRSE  signals, component symmetry directional WHIM index and moment expansions. The CP-MLR  indentified RDF, 3D-MoRSE, WHIM and GETAWAY descriptors, unweighted or weighted  with atomic properties endow relevant molecular 3D informations about molecular size, shape,  symmetry, atom distribution, effective position of substituents and fragments in the molecular  space, hold promise for rationalizing the DPP-4 and DPP-8 inhibitory actions of  triazolopiperazines. The values of statistical parameters, Q2LOO and r2Test ensure that the models  have validated internally and externally, both and the predictions are reliable and acceptable.  PLS analysis has further confirmed the dominance of the CP‐MLR identified descriptors.  Applicability domain analysis revealed that the suggested models have acceptable predictability.  All the compounds are within the applicability domain of the proposed models and were  evaluated correctly.

The DPP-4 and DPP-8 inhibitory activity of triazolopiperazines have been quantitatively  analyzed in terms of 3D-Dragon descriptors. The derived QSAR models have shown that atomic  properties played pivotal role in terms of weighted radial distribution functions, 3D-MoRSE  signals, component symmetry directional WHIM index and moment expansions. The CP-MLR  indentified RDF, 3D-MoRSE, WHIM and GETAWAY descriptors, unweighted or weighted  with atomic properties endow relevant molecular 3D informations about molecular size, shape,  symmetry, atom distribution, effective position of substituents and fragments in the molecular  space, hold promise for rationalizing the DPP-4 and DPP-8 inhibitory actions of  triazolopiperazines. The values of statistical parameters, Q2LOO and r2Test ensure that the models  have validated internally and externally, both and the predictions are reliable and acceptable.  PLS analysis has further confirmed the dominance of the CP‐MLR identified descriptors.  Applicability domain analysis revealed that the suggested models have acceptable predictability.  All the compounds are within the applicability domain of the proposed models and were  evaluated correctly.

The physical and biological characteristics of the areas inhabited by deep diving odontocetes are poorly understood. Our long term goals are: i) to measure and characterize the biomass in areas and at depths inhabited by beaked and sperm whales; ii) to measure and characterize the physics of these environments; iii) to assemble the characteristics measured (i) and (ii) into a depth integrated, 3- dimensional habitat model; the model will include other dependent and independent data, e.g., chlorophyll and depth, respectively. Our final long term goal is to then apply the habitat model produced to other geographic areas to assess their likelihood as beaked and sperm whale habitat. The past year has been spent in three primary tasks: i) ongoing analyses of data collected and preparation of publications from the these data, which are primarily from two sources cruises in 2008 in the Bahamas and several cruises off Cape Hatteras concurrent with tagging of short-fin pilot whales (Globicephala macrorhynchus) near the Cape Hatteras shelf break. The technical objectives were: i) to develop statistical models for echoes generated by mutli-frequency scientific echosounders; ii) to compare beaked whale echolocation activity during periods when our echosounders were off vs on; and iii) collect data on prey fields and physical oceanography concurrent with multi-sensor tagging of short finned pilot whales near the Cape Hatteras shelf break; and iv) to develop Bayesian state-space animal movement models that can be used in the overall habitat models.

This article is from International Journal of Molecular Sciences , volume 15 . Abstract The cell wall invertases play a crucial role on the sucrose metabolism in plant source and sink organs. In this research, six cell wall invertase genes (MeCWINV1-6) were cloned from cassava. All the MeCWINVs contain a putative signal peptide with a predicted extracellular location. The overall predicted structures of the MeCWINV1-6 are similar to AtcwINV1. Their N-terminus domain forms a β-propeller module and three conserved sequence domains (NDPNG, RDP and WECP(V)D), in which the catalytic residues are situated in these domains; while the C-terminus domain consists of a β-sandwich module. The predicted structure of Pro residue from the WECPD (MeCWINV1, 2, 5, and 6), and Val residue from the WECVD (MeCWINV3 and 4) are different. The activity of MeCWINV1 and 3 were higher than other MeCWINVs in leaves and tubers, which suggested that sucrose was mainly catalyzed by the MeCWINV1 and 3 in the apoplastic space of cassava source and sink organs. The transcriptional levels of all the MeCWINVs and their enzymatic activity were lower in tubers than in leaves at all the stages during the cassava tuber development. It suggested that the major role of the MeCWINVs was on the regulation of carbon exportation from source leaves, and the ratio of sucrose to hexose in the apoplasts; the role of these enzymes on the sucrose unloading to tuber was weaker.

28Existence Of 3D Strong Solutions For A System Modeling A Deformable Solid In A Viscous Incompressible Fluid

In this paper we study a coupled system modeling the movement of a deformable solid immersed in a fluid. For the solid we consider a given deformation that has to obey several physical constraints. The motion of the fluid is modeled by the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in a time-dependent bounded domain of $\R^3$, and the solid satisfies the Newton's laws. Our contribution consists in adapting and completing some results of ARMA 2008 in dimension 3, in a framework where the regularity of the deformation of the solid is limited. We rewrite the main system in domains which do not depend on time, by using a new means of defining a change of variables, and a suitable change of unknowns. We study the corresponding linearized system before setting a local-in-time existence result. Global existence is obtained for small data, and in particular for deformations of the solid which are arbitrarily close to the identity.

293D Radio And X-Ray Modeling And Data Analysis Software: Revealing Flare Complexity

We have undertaken a major enhancement of our IDL-based simulation tools developed earlier for modeling microwave and X-ray emission. The object-based architecture provides an interactive graphical user interface that allows the user to import photospheric magnetic field maps and perform magnetic field extrapolations to almost instantly generate 3D magnetic field models, to investigate the magnetic topology of these models by interactively creating magnetic field lines and associated magnetic flux tubes, to populate the flux tubes with user-defined nonuniform thermal plasma and anisotropic, nonuniform, nonthermal electron distributions; to investigate the spatial and spectral properties of radio and X-ray emission calculated from the model, and to compare the model-derived images and spectra with observational data. The application integrates shared-object libraries containing fast gyrosynchrotron emission codes developed in FORTRAN and C++, soft and hard X-ray codes developed in IDL, a FORTRAN-based potential-field extrapolation routine and an IDL-based linear force free field extrapolation routine. The interactive interface allows users to add any user-defined radiation code that adheres to our interface standards, as well as user-defined magnetic field extrapolation routines. Here we use this tool to analyze a simple single-loop flare and use the model to constrain the 3D structure of the magnetic flaring loop and 3D spatial distribution of the fast electrons inside this loop. We iteratively compute multi-frequency microwave and multi-energy X-ray images from realistic magnetic fluxtubes obtained from an extrapolation of a magnetogram taken prior to the flare, and compare them with imaging data obtained by SDO, NoRH, and RHESSI instruments. We use this event to illustrate use of the tool for general interpretation of solar flares to address disparate problems in solar physics.

Because most of the files on the CD-ROM are stored in zip files, you'll need WinZip installed on your machine in order to uncompress everything. In addition, you'll need DirectX installed to run most of the 3D programs and games. Finally, install Adobe Acrobat so you can read the many pertinent program documentations and tutorials that are in Adobe's native PDF format. Textures This section alone should make you tattoo my name on your arm! I spent many hours collecting textures for your personal, license-free use, including pictures of rock, brick, and hundreds of other unique textures. Tutorials This section contains two tutorials that cover the basic operations (and then some) of trueSpace 4 and Photoshop 6. Use these to prime yourself for the rest of the tutorials in this book if you don't have much experience with them.

If you want to install an SSD(Solid State Drive) in Ninja-V, you need a dedicated SSD or a custom caddy. In Ninja-V purchase package, only one caddy is bundled, so if you want to use multiple SSDs, you will need to purchase additional caddys. And the bundled caddy blocks the vents for heat dissipation with the plastic material and is completely in close contact with the main body, so I think that is one of the factors that make Ninja V hotter because it generates a lot of heat during recording operation. In the modeling process, I wanted to make a simple SSD fixing adapter, and I made a type with a gap between the SSD and the body so that it could be a structure that helps heat dissipation. Problems of interest in hydrogeology and hydrocarbon resources involve complex heterogeneous geological formations. Such domains are most accurately represented in reservoir simulations by unstructured computational grids. Finite element methods accurately describe flow on unstructured meshes with complex geometries, and their flexible formulation allows implementation on different grid types. In this work, we consider for the first time the challenging problem of fully compositional three-phase flow in 3D unstructured grids, discretized by any combination of tetrahedra, prisms, and hexahedra. We employ a mass conserving mixed hybrid finite element (MHFE) method to solve for the pressure and flux fields. The transport equations are approximated with a higher-order vertex-based discontinuous Galerkin (DG) discretization. We show that this approach outperforms a face-based implementation of the same polynomial order. These methods are well suited for heterogeneous and fractured reservoirs, because they provide globally continuous pressure and flux fields, while allowing for sharp discontinuities in compositions and saturations. The higher-order accuracy improves the modeling of strongly non-linear flow, such as gravitational and viscous fingering. We review the literature on unstructured reservoir simulation models, and present many examples that consider gravity depletion, water flooding, and gas injection in oil saturated reservoirs. We study convergence rates, mesh sensitivity, and demonstrate the wide applicability of our chosen finite element methods for challenging multiphase flow problems in geometrically complex subsurface media.

This article is from mAbs , volume 6 . Abstract The humanized monoclonal antibody H27K15 specifically targets human CD115, a type III tyrosine kinase receptor involved in multiple cancers and inflammatory diseases. Binding of H27K15 to hCD115 expressing cells inhibits the functional effect of colony-stimulating factor-1 (CSF-1), in a non-competitive manner. Both homology modeling and docking programs were used here to model the human CD115 extracellular domains, the H27K15 variable region and their interaction. The resulting predicted H27K15 epitope includes mainly the D1 domain in the N-terminal extracellular region of CD115 and some residues of the D2 domain. Sequence alignment with the non-binding murine CD115, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and affinity measurements by quartz crystal microbalance revealed critical residues of this epitope that are essential for H27K15 binding. A combination of computational simulations and biochemical experiments led to the design of a chimeric CD115 carrying the human epitope of H27K15 in a murine CD115 backbone that is able to bind both H27K15 as well as the murine ligands CSF-1 and IL-34. These results provide new possibilities to minutely study the functional effects of H27K15 in a transgenic mouse that would express this chimeric molecule.

Pore-scale modeling and simulation of reactive flow in porous media has a range of diverse applications, and poses a number of research challenges. It is known that the morphology of a porous medium has significant influence on the local flow rate, which can have a substantial impact on the rate of chemical reactions. While there are a large number of papers and software tools dedicated to simulating either fluid flow in 3D computerized tomography (CT) images or reactive flow using pore-network models, little attention to date has been focused on the pore-scale simulation of sorptive transport in 3D CT images, which is the specific focus of this paper. Here we first present an algorithm for the simulation of such reactive flows directly on images, which is implemented in a sophisticated software package. We then use this software to present numerical results in two resolved geometries, illustrating the importance of pore-scale simulation and the flexibility of our software package.
