Poster for my talk, "Computer Arts and Media",   January 1973, at U. Illinois Chicago Circle Campus.   Unnfortunately there is no recording. ➜ NOTE: January 29, 2023, was the FIFTIETH   ANNIVERSARY OF THIS TALK. (I believe I had just thought of the title "Computer Lib"   for the book I was starting to put together, but that's another story.) The talk was intended for the minds of (hypothesized)   future-yearning eccentrics,   some of whom may have been present.   Note the two-handed operation-- one holds a haptic joystick,   (not a mouse) while the other arm reaches in (haptically)   to interact with the different objects.  They run the gamut   from buildings (later CAD) to cartoon characters   (later Pixar) to dinosaurs (as in "Jurassic Park"),   foreseeing a range of enactments, subjects and interactions   that would come to pass. Note that "MOVIE SYNTHESIZERS" are now called CGI,   in universal use, and "CRYSTAL BALLS" means the viewers   we now have. Note that "RESPONDING ENVIRONMENTS" are now called   Personal Computers, Operating Systems, Applications,   Web pages, Websites, Computer Games, Forums, "The Net,"   Airplane Flight Decks (no longer called "cockpits"),   Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, and High-End Sex Toys,   to name a few.   Oh yeah, and the phone in your pocket. Note that "multi-media" would have meant something to   audiences at that time (slide shows with sound). Whereas the words left out ("hypertext" and "hypermedia")   were as yet generally unheard of, though already published,   and so "multidimensional writings of the future" was the best   available thought for that audience. In 1973 these matters ideas were embryonic at best   (clickable links, which I first created in 1969,   were in various closed-garden hypertexts),   but there was no overall hypertext environment. Copies of this poster, as posted on walls,   had their rainbows colored in by hand   with day-glow highlighter pens.
