The Open Library
The Open Library is a rich source of open data, it is an initiative of the Internet Archive, and it aims to build an online digital reference for all books.
To make all the published works of humankind available to everyone in the world.
One web page for every book ever published. It's a lofty but achievable goal.
To date, we have gathered over 20 million records from a variety of large catalogs as well as single contributions, with more on the way. Open Library is an open project: the software is open, the data are open, the documentation is open, and we welcome your contribution.
Developers can access the Open Library data through its various web APIs. For Whefi Books The Open library represents a primary source of data, it provides reliable and detailed information about millions of titles, and it offers free and unlimited usage of its open data for software projects. Some of the information whefi.com gets from the Open Library are:
- - Details and metadata about books.
- - Cover images.
- - Book identifiers such as ISBN, OCLC, etc.
- - Related pages in the Open Library.
- - Related links on other platforms.
Moreover, Some books are available for online borrowing at The Open Library, When a book is found on the Open Library, whefi.com provides a note whether a book is available for borrowing at the Open Library or not. For books that are available for borrowing a link will be provided and the user can follow the link to register an account in The Open library and follow the process of borrowing books at the Open Library.
Something to be taken into consideration regarding online borrowing is that some literature works could have several editions and publications, some of these could be available for borrowing while others are not.
Google Books
Google Books offers developers another rich source of data that is used in whefi.com. Google Books API Family provides information, metadata, and cover thumbnails for books. It also provides book preview capabilities for some books; these previews may be Limited or Full.
