Sein Fokus liegt auf der Geschichte des Strohmanns, genannt Mais, sonst als dumm verkannt. Als Hörer kann man seiner Entwicklung von der "Geburt" zum allseits klugen Berater bis hin zum Herrscher und treuen Freund folgen. Ebenso der der Freundschaft der ungleichen Gefährten, verbunden durch die gemeinsame Suche nach sich selbst. Die Geschichte enthält traditionelle Märchenelemente, kombiniert mit unvergesslichen Charakteren: Es gibt gute wie böse Hexen, geflügelte Affen, betörende Blumen und gefährliche Ungeheuer. Vieles wird im Verlauf der Handlung - anders als im Roman - durch die Protagonisten erzählt, so deren Vorgeschichten. Das alles ist eine wundervolle Grundlage für eine Lesung, die hier mit Felix von Manteuffel durch den Erzählfluss, seine Figurenzeichnung und sein Erzähltempo grossartig gelang, ergänzt durch impressive Klavierstücke von R. Bielfeldt. Das Hörbuch, mit bezaubernden Bildern von B. Lacombe in einem informativen Booklet, ist preiswürdig und ein Muss für jeden Bestand! Ab 8 J
